Sunday, October 3, 2004 – No obituaries reported Monday, October 4, 2004 – No obituaries reported Tuesday, October 5, 2004 Leo Czewski Mr. Leo Czewski, 96, of Ubly, passed away Sunday night, October 3, 2004, at his son's home under hospice care after a short illness. Leo was born May 25, 1908 on the family farm in Ubly to the late Frank and Julia (Suida) Czewski. He married Agnes Heleski on November 17, 1928 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. She preceded him in death on June 8, 1980. He married Marjorie Schell on May 22, 1976. She preceded him in death on November 2, 1999. Leo farmed for many years. He owned and operated his own scrap metal yard in Ubly from the mid 1940s to the present. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sandusky and was a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. He was a former Ubly Fox Hunter's member. Leo loved and enjoyed music, dancing, euchre, hunting, and gardening. Leo is survived by two daughters, Rita Miller, of Clearwater, Florida, and Judith Bakos and her husband, David, of West Bloomfield; six sons, Raymond Czewski and his wife, Jean, of Ubly, Edward Czewski and his wife, Donna, of Bad Axe, Robert Czewski and his wife, Diane, of Milton, West Virginia, James Czewski and his wife, Delphine, of Ubly, Leonard Czewski and his wife, Susan, of Ubly, Eugene Czewski, of Troy; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Czewski, of Ferndale; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and step- grandchildren. Leo was preceded in death by his daughter, Marie; two sons, Thomas and Jerome Czewski; three sisters, Rose Osantowski, Frances Rivard, and Gertrude Abbey; three brothers, Joseph, David, and Thomas Czewski; son-in-law, John Miller; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. The Rev. Steve Gavit, pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Ruth, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly. There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. today and a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Both services will be at the funeral home. Leo Joseph Pincosky Leo Joseph Pincosky, 86, of Port Austin, died Monday, October 4, 2004, at Covenant HealthCare Hospital in Saginaw. He was born on February 11, 1918 in Dwight Township, the son of the late Herman and Susan (Moots) Pincosky. He and Dorothy Jaworski were married on January 22, 1941 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Port Austin. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin and farmed in Dwight Township. Leo loved to visit and was also a big fan of polka music. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, John, and Sylvester; and three sisters, Mary Horetski, Alice Goretski, and Regina Ahearn. Funeral services for Leo Pincosky will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Fr. Robert Pare, pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home. Russell W. Greenwood Russell W. Greenwood, 89, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, died Monday, September 27, 2004. The funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m. today at Port St. Lucie Chapel of the Yates Funeral Home, 1101 South U.S. 1, P.O. Box 777, Fort Pierce, Florida 34954. Wednesday, October 6, 2004 Dorothy A. Schimmelpfenig Dorothy Ann Schimmelpfenig, 77, of Caseville, passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 4, 2004, at Genesys Medical Center in Flint. She was born in Applegate on November 23, 1926, daughter of the late William and Lavina (Johnston) Roskey. She was a graduate of Michigan State Normal College, Ypsilanti, where she earned her teaching certificate, and taught school in Capac as well as Kodiak, Alaska. On July 8, 1950, she was united in marriage to Frederick "Fritz" Schimmelpfenig in Capac. He survives her. Mrs. Schimmelpfenig enjoyed reading and especially spending time with her granddaughter. She was an active member with the Davison and Caseville United Methodist Churches. In addition to her husband, Fritz, she is survived by a daughter, Julie Edgar and her husband, Dr. William; and beloved granddaughter, Elizabeth Edgar, of Fenton; four sisters, Iva Berry and her husband, Vaughn, of Ann Arbor, Evelyn Cramer and her husband, Duane, of Sandusky, Norma Nichol and her husband, Harlan, of Deckerville, and Marie Sleda and her husband, Robert, of Applegate; brother, Robert Roskey and his wife, Donna; brother-in-law, Ronald Penpraze, of Oscoda; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Edgar, on Monday, October 4, 1993; two sisters, Helen Williamson and Gladys Penpraze; two brothers, Melvin Roskey and Stanley Roskey. A memorial service will be conducted at noon on Friday, October 8, 2004, at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon, with the Rev. Margaret Passenger officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon on Friday at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home. Mae C. Wrubel Mae C. Wrubel, 81, of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2004, in the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Harbor Beach on February 17, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John and Martha (Kucharczyk) Hoin. On October 3, 1942, Mae and Domazy Wrubel were united in marriage in Parisville. Domazy preceded her in death on October 6, 1988. Mae was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach and a former member of the Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella. She is survived by her children, Yvonne Essenmacher and her husband, Gerald, of Washington Township, Carol Essenmacher and her husband, Paul, of Harbor Beach, and Steven Wrubel, of Warren; 11 grandchildren, Christopher Essenmacher and his wife, Pamela, Constance Bommarito and her husband, Michael, Victoria Essenmacher and her friend, Steven Straub, Angela Essenmacher, Heather Collis and her husband, Charles, RaeAme Kapler and her husband, Michael, Aaron Essenmacher, Keri Stacer and her husband, Paul, Dean Essenmacher and his wife, Vicki, Dana Faust and her husband, David, Kimberly McCarthy and her husband, Patrick; 15 great-grandchildren, Madison, Nathan, Lydia Essenmacher, Taylor, Morgan, Sidney Bommarito, Drayton, Emma, Celia Collis, Sophie, Olivia Kapler, Braxton, Brayden Faust and Tyler and Mitchell Essenmacher; sister, Margaret Bukoski, of Harbor Beach. Fleming, 79, resident of Hume Township near Port Austin, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at St. John's Hospital, Detroit. Mrs. Fleming was born July 3, 1925 in Meade Township of Huron County. She was the daughter of the late Wallace and Josephine (Schmitt) Elliott. Miss Mary I. Elliott and Raymond C. Fleming were united in marriage on December 28, 1946 at the Kinde First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Fleming preceded his wife in death on September 13, 1978. Mary graduated from a rural county school near Argyle. She was a member of the Kinde Presbyterian Church. She was employed at the Port Austin Level Company and Montgomery Ward. She retired before moving to Hume Township. Mrs. Fleming, was a loving grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary loved to dance, play cards and travel. Surviving are two daughters, Donna Fleming, of Cass City, Charlotte Benke and her husband, Nicholas, of Detroit; three grandchildren, Nicholas Benke and his wife, Sheri, Brenda Bartos and her husband, Jeffrey, and Renee Benke; seven great- grandchildren, Amber Bartos, Hailie Weaver, Brianna Marcelli, Jenna Bartos, Elizuh Weaver, Ashley Benke and Zachary Benke; three sisters, Hazel Ligrow and her husband, Fred, of Bay City, Ann Cregeur and her husband, Willard, of Kinde, and Bernice Spindler and her husband, Ronald, of Beaverton; two brothers, Albert Elliott and his wife, Erma, of Flint, and James Elliot and his wife, Ardith, of Clio; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Leonard Kalka, of Kinde. Mrs. Fleming was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Running; and four brothers, William Elliott, Henry Elliott, Wallace Elliott, and infant Duard Elliott. Memorials may be offered to the Family Discretionary Fund. Bernice G. Smith Bernice G. (Banker) Smith, 78, of Port Hope, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at her home with hospice care. Born in Port Hope on August 19, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Beatrice (Hunter) Schave. On July 6, 1946, Bernice and Frederick Banker were united in marriage in Detroit. Fred preceded her in death on December 14, 1988. Bernice and Jack Smith were united in marriage on May 18, 1996 in Port Hope. Jack passed away on November 6, 1999. Bernice was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope and the AmVets Auxiliary of Port Hope. She is survived by her children, Tony Banker and his wife, Crystal, of Port Hope, Larry Banker and his wife, Robin, of Warren, Randy Banker, of Waterford, and Pam Banker, of Caseville; two sisters, Doris Kaufman and her husband, Nathan, of Port Hope, and Phyllis Will and her husband, Al; and three brothers, Ken Schave and his wife, Bernadine, of Florida, Leroy Schave and his wife, Alice, of Port Hope, Don Schave and his wife, Deanna, of Lennon; two step-sons, Kenneth Smith, of Imlay City, and Robert Smith, of Warren; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by a son, Fred Banker; two brothers, Lee Schave and Paul Schave; a sister, Beatrice Harwood. Burial will be in the Marquardt Cemetery, Port Hope. An AmVets White Clover Ceremony will be at 5 p.m. on Friday and a scripture service at 7:30 p.m., both in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. Visitation from 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the church. Bryce Emerson Stambaugh Bryce Emerson Stambaugh, 69, of Bad Axe, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile-train accident on Wadsworth Road. He was born January 6, 1935 to the late Adelbert and Murneta (Cranston) Stambaugh. He was united in marriage to Joyce Glaza on January 24, 1986. Bryce was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Bad Axe. He graduated from the Ubly High School. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in France. Bryce was a chief engineer for the Interlake Steamship Company for 42½ years. He started his shipping career in 1956 and retired in 2000 while in charge of the S.S. Charles Beeghly. He was inducted as a member into the Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum. Bryce was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman, and all around outdoorsman. Bryce is survived by his wife, Joyce; one daughter, Tammy Emus and her husband, Ronald, of Ashtabula, Ohio; one son, Bryan Stambaugh and his wife, Kristen, of Hudsonville; one step-son, Michael Glaza and his wife, Leslie, of Grand Rapids; three brothers, Donald Stambaugh and his wife, Deana, of Bellaire, Gary Stambaugh, of Bad Axe, Gene Stambaugh and his wife, Judy, of Ubly; one sister, Grace Morgan and her husband, Lowell, of Ubly; two grandchildren, Hunter Emus, of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Helene Glaza, of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Nancy Stambaugh. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2004, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bad Axe.
