Allen, 44, of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2004, at Alpena General Hospital in Alpena following injuries she sustained in an auto accident. She was born March 25, 1959 in Canton to Harvey and Bernice (Rinehart) Geiger of Minerva, Ohio. She was united in marriage to Charles Allen, Jr. on August 2, 1993. She was a real estate agent and appraiser for Statewide Real Estate, formerly Exit Realtor, in Alpena. She was formerly a member of the Minerva First Presbyterian Church. In 1977 she graduated from Minerva High School. She also enjoyed working with the MRDD and making crafts. She is survived by her parents; her husband, Charles Allen, Jr.; two step- daughters, Dawn Allen, of Clare, Danielle Bowman and her husband, Todd, of Dewitt; three sisters: Kathie Halter and her husband, Ralph, of Minerva, Cindy Phillips and her husband, Lenny, of Minerva, and Lisa Pence and her husband, Eric, of East Palestine; a brother, Ron Geiger and his wife, Bonnie, of Navarre; 21 nieces and nephews; 11 great- nieces and nephews; three step-grandchildren; her mother and father-in-law, Charles and Bobbie Allen of Bad Axe. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home at 206 E. Lincolnway in Minerva, Ohio, with the Rev. John Lane officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the hospice of the donor's choice. Nellie Mae Anthes Nellie Mae Anthes, 87, of Cass City, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Caro Community Hospital. She was born June 10, 1916 in Elmwood Township to Fred and Christie (Hutchinson) Seeley. She married Edward Anthes on December 18, 1934 in Caro. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1981. Nellie retired from General Cable after more than 20 years. She was a member of Novesta Church of Christ. She loved sewing, quilting and her cat, Crackers. Nellie is survived by her children, Tim Anthes, of Caseville, Mary Ann Lowe and her husband, Keith, of Cass City; grandchildren: Jay Anthes and his wife, Kathi, of Sterling Heights, Sarah Honsinger and her husband, Mike, of Saginaw, Rich Lowe and his wife, Daria, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mike Lowe and his wife, Diane, of Cass City, Diane Spooner and her husband, Rick, of Mason; 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Aileen Price; a brother-in-law, John Anderson; sisters-in-law, Donna Seeley, Isabelle Seeley, Clara Seeley; many nieces and nephews. Deline, 56, of Colfax Township, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. Darlene was born May 15, 1947 in Cass City to the late William and Arlene (Sternberg) Jackson. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and visiting with family and friends. She is survived by her companion Curly Ferguson of Colfax Township; two daughters, Michelle Deline, of Hale and Patricia Deline, of Mayville; one son, Marshall Deline, of Adrian; six sisters, Carol Fibranz and her husband, Clarence, of Bad Axe, Barbara Armstead and her husband, Dave, of Port Hope, Gertrude "Faith" Barnett and her husband, Terry, of Mazon, Illinois, Janet Jackson, of Joliet, Illinois, Mary Lewis, of Bad Axe, Elizabeth Jackson, of Bad Axe; four brothers, Michael Jackson and his wife, Mary Lou, of Bad Axe, Richard Jackson and his wife, Rita, of Bad Axe, Ronald Jackson and his wife, Karen, of Sebeka, Minnesota, Duane Jackson, of Gladwin; 14 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. "Rick" Hoeh Eric C. "Rick" Hoeh, 27, of Sebewaing, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2004, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Saginaw following a brief illness. He was born July 8, 1976 in Bay City, son of Bernard C. and Leilani K. (Boettcher) Hoeh. Rick was a 1995 graduate of Unionville-Sebewaing Area High School and had been employed at Sebewaing Tool & Engineering Co. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing. Rick completed courses in mechanical engineering technology and drafting through International Correspondence School. He had many talents and interests, along with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He was a highly moral young man with a deep sense of fairness and tolerance combined with a keen wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed college football, basketball and hockey along with attending many University of Michigan games. He was a creative musician and played piano, saxophone and guitar. Rick loved cultural history and archeology, especially enjoying trips to the Mayan ruins in Mexico, where he climbed the pyramid at Chichen-Itza. He also loved to snorkel in the nearby Caribbean Sea. He was a connoisseur of classical movies and a member of the Michigan Cinephile Society. He was an avid student of Egyptology and enjoyed many visits to the major museums throughout the country. Surviving are his parents; a beloved brother, Brian Hoeh; grandparents, James and Kazuko Hoeh; aunts Julie Massie, Diane Warnert and her husband, Cliff, Michelle Wuolle and her husband, Dennis; uncles, Robert Boettcher and his wife, Shelley, Roger Boettcher and his wife, Marian; cousins, Ryan and Angela Hoeh, David and Courtney Warnert, Matt and Kelly Boettcher and Travis May. Mary Czerny Mary Czerny, 95, of Cass City, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2004, at Covenant Health Care-Harrison, Saginaw. Cremation will take place with interment in Elkland Township Cemetery. Eugene Grifka Mr. Eugene "Gene" Grifka, 70, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and formerly of Paris Township, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2004, at his home under hospice care. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2004, at the Raben Horst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Burial will be in Port Herdson Cemetery with military honors. Information provided by the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly. Edwin Klemp Edwin Klemp, 77, of Lapeer, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Lapeer Medical Care Facility. Edwin was born August 10, 1929 to Minnie (Jahn) and William Klemp in Port Hope. He married Frances Anna Zuhlke on June 1, 1963 in Lapeer. Edwin worked for the Meyer Co., tree trimming for Detroit Edison for 20 years, then the Grand Trunk Western Railroad as a trackman for 20 years from which he retired. He had lived in the community for most of his life and was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Edwin is survived by his wife, Frances Klemp, of Lapeer; two daughters, Lori Krampien and her husband, Jerry, of Imlay City, Amy Clemens and her husband, Richard, of Lapeer; one granddaughter, Megan Clemens. He was preceded in death by brothers, Alfred, Harold, Arthur, Walter, and Herbert; sisters, Elsie Dake and Bernetta Plieness; and two infant siblings. Born in Harbor Beach on December 23, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Genevieve (Siemen) Winkel. On November 4, 1962, Ilene and Robert Parish were united in marriage in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena. Ilene was an employee of Deckerville Die Form Co. in Deckerville for the past 32 years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, country music and playing cards. Ilene was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. Surviving are her husband of 31 years, Robert Parish, of Harbor Beach; her daughters: Darlene Kucharczyk and her husband, James, of Harbor Beach, Terry Lynn Sengstock, of Port Huron; four grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Braun and her husband, Earl, of Harbor Beach; three brothers, Melvin Winkel and his wife, Joyce, of Perris, California, Robert Winkel and his wife, Jean, of Harbor Beach, and Jerry Winkel and his wife, Evelyn, of Bad Axe. Schave, 88, of Port Hope, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe following an extended illness. Born in Port Hope on July 29, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Martha (Hoffman) Schubring. Frieda and Floyd Schave were united in marriage on March 25, 1932. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1992. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope and belonged to the Ladies Aid, Sewing Circle, Lutheran Women's League, and was a cook for the St. John Lutheran School. Frieda enjoyed playing cards, quilting, feeding and watching birds. She is survived by her sons: Kenneth Schave and his wife, Janet, of Port Hope, Gary Schave and his wife, Joyce, of Port Hope, Robert Schave and his wife, Linda, of Port Hope; seven grandchildren, and 11 great- grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Schave, of Brewerton, New York. Frieda was preceded in death by a son, Donald Schave; a grandson, Scott Kenneth Schave; two brothers: Howard and Harold Schubring; five sisters: Frances Brown, Florence Priemer, Fern Schneider, Mabel Michalchek, Mildred Jankowski. Schave, 80, of Port Hope, passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 31, 2003. Born in Port Hope on December 4, 1923, he was the son of the late John and Alice (Paschke) Schave. Victor was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope and was a retired Bloomfield Township farmer and a member of the Port Hope- Grindstone Sportsman Club. Victor was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed coaching softball and playing in the Old Timers tournaments, and he was a fan of the Red Wings as well as other pro sports. He is survived by two sisters: Bernetta MacFarlane, of Redford and Laverna Fantore, of Warren; also by two brothers: Wallace Schave and his wife, Virginia, of Westland and John Schave, of Port Hope; and many nieces and nephews. Victor was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Schave. Funeral services were on Saturday, January 3, 2004, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Hope with the Rev. Gregory Eilers officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery. Norman H. Schroeder Norman H. Schroeder, 79, of Rochester Hills and formerly of Sebewaing, passed away Friday morning, January 2, 2004 at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills following a nine-month illness. He was born October 28, 1924 in Long Prairie, Minnesota, son of the late John and Louise (Denene) Schroeder. He was united in marriage to Olive "Ollie" Jacobson on February 12, 1955 in Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on October 18, 1995. He then married Elizabeth Wood on May 10, 1997 in Frankenmuth. Norm had served as president of Farmer and Merchants State Bank in Sebewaing and later First of America Bank. He then was vice president at Signature Bank in Sebewaing before retiring in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in both Europe and Pacific Theatres. Norm was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Rochester Hills and formerly a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing, serving various church offices, and serving on the Missouri Synod Mission Board. He was a former member of the Sebewaing Chamber of Commerce, Frankenmuth Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow. He had been active in Huron County Big Brothers and Big Sisters and was one of the co-founders of the Sebewaing Sugar Festival. Surviving besides his wife, Elizabeth, are five daughters: Connie Spannagel and her husband, Ed, of Unionville, Sharon Krauss and her husband, Rolly, of Lake Odessa, Julie Schroeder, of Boston, Massachusetts, Sue Cornelius and her husband, Chris, of Long Grove, Illinois, Linda Luther, of Sebewaing; one son, Chris Schroeder and his wife, Luanne, of Mason; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Harrington, of Long Prairie, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers: John and Victor Schroeder. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2004, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing with the Rev. Monday, January 05, 2004 Anna Doyle Mrs. Anna Mae Doyle, 27, of Snover, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Hills and Dales General Hospital of Cass City. Anna was born on November 13, 1976 in Lapeer to Kay (Grifka) Muma and the late Raymond Muma. She married Christopher J. Doyle on August 28, 1999 in Ruth. Anna was a 1995 graduate of Ubly High School. She worked at Deckerville Die Form for four years, and at the Voltron Corporation in Bad Axe. She was a life long parishioner of St. Ignatius Catholic Church of Freiburg. Anna enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, working on cars, cross stitching, and she loved to wear hats. Anna is survived by her husband, Christopher, of Snover; her children, Sara Kay Muma, Joan Doyle, Sara Nicole Doyle, and Jason Doyle, all at home; her mother, Kay Muma, of Snover; her maternal grandmother, Olive Grifka, of Snover; three sisters, Angela Weeks and her husband, Jim, of Alabama, Tina Siemen and her husband, Mike, of Harbor Beach, Marlene Whittenburg and her husband, John, of Florida; one brother, Gordon Muma, and his wife, Jennifer, of Sandusky; in-laws, Robert and Marjorie Doyle of Port Sanilac; two brothers-in-law, John Doyle and his wife, Marlene, of Saginaw, Rick Doyle and his wife, Debbie, of Carsonville; four sisters-in-law, Penny Haacke and her husband, Al, of Croswell, Debra Albrecht and her husband, Joseph, of Carsonville, Brenda Bartley and her husband, David, of Applegate, Bobbie Warczinski and her husband, John, of Deckerville; several nieces and nephews. OraBelle Murdoch OraBelle Murdoch, 83, of Caseville, died Friday, January 2, 2004, at Covenant Health Care, Cooper in Saginaw. She was born September 26, 1920 in Sebewaing at the home of her parents, the late Wilbert and Martha (Eichler) Beck. OraBelle grew up and lived in western Huron County all her life. On March 1, 1941, she was united in marriage to Howard C. Murdoch at her parents' home in Sebewaing. Howard preceded her in death on March 14, 1994. She attended the Hayes United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with her friends and especially her family. Surviving are six children, Marilyn Crane and her husband, William, of Saginaw, James Murdoch and his wife, Kathy, of Caseville, Constance Abraham, of Sutton, West Virginia, Beverly Herford and her husband, Dennis, of Elkton, Barbara Weigle and her husband, Carl, of Greenbush, and Larry Murdoch and his wife, Nina, of Caseville; 18 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; sister, Vera Beach, of Pigeon. Tuesday, January 6, 2004 Eleanor Perry Eleanor (Smith) Perry, 78, of Caseville, died Monday morning, January 5, 2004, at Scheurer Hospital, Pigeon. She was born March 1, 1925 at the home of her parents, the late Albertuo and Suzie (Vahovick) Langley in Chandler Township and lived in the Caseville area most of her life. On December 21, 1942, she was united in marriage to Donald E. Smith in Pigeon. He preceded her in death on November 4, 1966. Over the years, Eleanor worked as a waitress at Dormey's Blue Water Inn, Rasique Restaurant, The Log Cabin Restaurant and Walt's, all of which were in Caseville. She had also been employed at Sebewaing Industries for several years. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church and a former member of the Caseville Eagle Auxiliary. Surviving are five children, Caroline Reyes and her husband, John, of Detroit, Hugh Smith and his wife, Janine, of Caseville, Rollie Smith, of Owendale, Toni Vollmer and her husband, Dennis, of Caseville, and Heidi Lee and her husband, Jay, of Almont; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Red Langley; and five sisters, Frances Gorski, of Caseville, Erma Steel and her husband, Chuck, of Bay Port, Helen Guster, of Caseville, Lois Dillon and her husband, Leonard, and Mary Orban and her husband, Robert, all of Unionville. Rose Forshee Rose Mae Forshee, 94, formerly of Bay Port and Bad Axe, passed away Friday, January 2, 2004, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield, North Carolina. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, Pigeon. Wednesday, January 7, 2004 Howard Schweitzer Howard Schweitzer, 82, of Caseville, died Monday evening, January 5, 2004, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. He was born February 20, 1921 in Fairhaven Township to the late Arthur and Minnie (Symon) Schweitzer. Howard served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. Shortly after his return to Bay Port, he established and opened Bay Port Scrape Yard, a business he operated for more than 20 years. During that time he became a commercial fisherman in the waters off of Bay Port. Even after retiring from the fishing industry, he continued fishing. Although his health prevented him from going on the water, he could be found parked next to mud creek tossing a line out the car window. Surviving are three sons, LeRoy and his wife, Arlene, of Sebewaing, Dennis and his wife, Sue, of Bay Port, and Jerry and his wife, Tammy, of Caseville; two daughters, Judith Gravelle and her husband, Robert, of Sterling Heights, and Kay Christner and her husband, Bob, of Imlay City; 16 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Gus Schweitzer, of Bay Port; and his sister, Isabelle Herford and her husband, Armond, of Elkton. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mike Gravelle; a brother, Richard Schweitzer; and a sister, Ruth Cox. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2004, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville. The Rev. Thursday, January 8, 2004 Guenther Kellner Guenther Kellner, 88, of Bad Axe, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2004. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Friday, January 9, 2003 Opal Hund Mrs. Opal G. Hund, 90, of Ubly, passed away Thursday morning, January 8, 2004, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe after a lengthy illness. She was born October 12, 1912 in Argyle to the late Benjamin and Ellen (Boag) Peters. Opal attended Argyle Country School and was a graduate of Ubly High School. She was united in marriage to Francis A. Hund on September 27, 1934 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle and lived most of her married life in Ubly. Opal worked for a time at the local Ubly IGA and later was employed as a teacher's aide at the Ubly Community Schools. In addition to raising seven children, she enjoyed baking, gardening, crocheting, canning, sewing and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Ubly where she served as a Eucharistic minister and as a minister of communion to the sick. Opal was also a member of the Christian mothers Circle #3. Mary Magdalene and the Daughter of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle #608 of Bad Axe. Opal is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Francis A. Hund; her children, Ferris S. Hund and his wife, Patricia, of Shelby Township, Robert F. Hund and his wife, Shirley, of Sterling Heights, Joan M. Bieniek and her husband, Ron, of Macomb Township, Janet M. Ericson and her husband, Charles, of AuGres, Mary Jane Sweeney and her husband, Kenneth, of Ubly, James A. Hund and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Hastings and daughter-in-law, Maureen Hund Scully of Sandusky in addition to 24 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Glen Peters and his wife, Lorraine, of Ubly; and one sister, Marion Boyer and her husband, Bill, of Perryville, Missouri. Opal was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Margaret Ann; her son, Mark S. Hund; two brothers, Wade and Wencil Peters; two sisters, Joy Niece and Erma Peters; one grandson, Steven Hund; one great-grandson, Francis Hund. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2004, at St. John Catholic Church of Ubly. The Rev. T.J. Fleming, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, from 1 to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday and from 8 to 9 p.m. on Monday. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday and joint rosary by the Daughters of Isabella and St. John Christian Mothers at 8:30 p.m. Both services will be at the funeral home. Erdene Kotenko Erdene Ruth Kotenko, 82, resident of Port Austin, died Thursday, January 8, 2004, at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. Mrs. Kotenko was born June 27, 1921 in Elkton to the late Harry and Estella (Pfaff) Schmidt. She was married to Michael Kotenko on December 18, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1988. Erdene was a former member of Bad Axe United Methodist Church. She grew up in Bad Axe and graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1939. She lived in Detroit for 20 years before moving to Port Austin. She wintered in Ft. Myers, Florida. She was a devoted Detroit Red Wings fan. She also enjoyed bowling, crafts, cooking, gardening and playing bingo. Mrs. Kotenko is survived by two daughters, Judith Kotenko and her friend, Anthony Chordej, of Livonia, Barbara Metz of Brighton; one brother, Pete Schmidt and his wife, Jean, of Port Austin; two grandsons, Robert Farnsworth and SPC Michael Farnsworth, of Brighton; two nephews, Tom Schmidt, of Port Austin, Steve Schmidt and his wife, Denise, of Port Austin; one niece, Belma Schmidt, of Lexington; several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her nephew, Peter Schmidt. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2004, at MacAlpine Funeral Home-Gage Chapel in Kinde. The Rev. Roy Chubb Graveside services for Roy Chubb, who passed away on December 29, 2003 in Florida, will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. at the Caseville Township Cemetery. Ronald Ross Ronald E. Ross, 75, of Caseville, died Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at Scheurer Hospital, Pigeon. He was born March 3, 1928 in Detroit to the late George R. and Marie (Gruver) Ross. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Princeton stationed at Pearl Harbor. On February 24, 1968, he was united in marriage to Joyce M. O'Dell in Gross Pointe Woods. He had been employed at the Beacon Elementary School in Harper Woods in the maintenance department for over 18 years, retiring in 1983 for health reasons. Several years later after Joyce retired, they moved to the Capac/Emmett area near Port Huron but in 1996 they traveled a little farther north and settled in Caseville. Ron was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church and the Caseville Eagles and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had a great sense of humor and loved to have fun, he enjoyed swimming, skating and snowmobiling. Surviving are his wife, Joyce; 16 nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Margie; and his twin brother, Bob. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2004, at St. Roch Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Jim Strasz, his nephew, will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Mary was born October 18, 1922 in Detroit to the late Joseph and Ross (Borycka) Gierlowski. She married Raymond N. Zurek on November 30, 1946 at St. Albertus Church in Detroit. He preceded her in death on October 22, 2003. Mary was a graduate of Northwestern High School in Detroit. She worked at Sanders Candy for eight years, and at Deckerville Die Form for 22 years. Mary and Ray moved to Ubly in 1965. She was the chaplain and a member of the VFW Auxiliary #6965, a member of the TVO Auxiliary, and the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle #608 of Bad Axe. She was a former parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville and a current member of St. Mary Rosary Sodality. She was a parishioner of St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Mary enjoyed mushroom picking, word search puzzles, cooking, shopping, traveling up to Glennie and visiting with her grandchildren. Mary is survived by one daughter, Rosemarie F. Kociba and her husband, Gerald, of Bad Axe; two daughters-in-law, Grace Zurek-Pohl and her husband, Dave, of Palms, Ilean Learman and her husband, John, of Harbor Beach; eight grandchildren, Michael G. Kociba and his wife, Helen, of Rochester, Kevin P. Kociba and his special friend, Carrie, of Bay City, Brian S. Kociba and his wife, Melodie, of Bad Axe, Jennifer R. Hagedon and her husband, Mike, of Waterford, Kimberly M.
