Sunday, June 6, 2004 Giuseppe "Joe" Cucchiara Joe Cucchiara, 65, of Sand Point, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born September 1, 1938 in Montelepre, Sicily, Italy, son of the late Giuseppe and Concetta Cucchiara. Joe married Monica Yaroch in 1981 in Detroit. Joe is survived by his wife, Monica, of Sand Point; four children, Maria Cucchiara and Vincenzo Cucchiara, both of Sand Point, and Giuseppe Cucchiara and Pietro Cucchiara, both of New Port Richey, Florida; two grandchildren; two brothers, Salvatore Cucchiara and his wife, Maria, of Port Austin, and Giacchino Cucchiara, of Montelepre, Sicily, Italy; two sisters, Rosa Cucchiara and Maria Cucchiara, both of Montelepre, Sicily, Italy; and six nieces and nephews, Joseph, Filippo, Salvatore, Jr., and Francesca Cucchiara, and Katia and Salvatore Ferrigno. He was preceded in death by his brother, Vincenzo Cucchiara. Joe moved to Port Austin from Detroit in 1976 and started Joe's Pizzeria in Port Austin. In 1980, he opened Giuseppe's Pizzeria in Caseville. He enjoyed spending his time with his family. He had a passion for cooking that kept him busy in his restaurant. Joe also enjoyed gardening, watching sports and CNN, and was proud to have recently become a United States citizen. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert Pare, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Roch's Cemetery in Caseville. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. There will be a vigil service, led by Sister Margaret Ann Roggenbuck at 7 p.m. on Monday followed by a rosary at the funeral home. Alice Stec Mrs. Alice Anna Stec, 72, of Caro, passed away Thursday evening, June 3, 2004. She was born in Kinde on November 30, 1931 to Paul and Elizabeth (Andrewski) Prill. On May 20, 1950, she married Peter Stec in Bad Axe. She is survived by her husband, Peter; sons, Ernest Stec and his wife, Robin, and Randy Stec and his wife, Rebecca, both of Caro; grandchildren, Deron Stec and his wife, Andrea, and Shaun Stec; a great-grandson, Brendon Stec; brothers, Thomas Prill and his wife, Flora, of Bad Axe, Martin Prill and his wife, Theresa, of Port Austin, and Peter Prill and his wife, Marie, of Mio; sisters, Pauline Godzinski and her husband, Virgil, of Caro, and Kathleen Silva, of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. Elandt, 23, of Port Hope, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2004, in Iraq. He was born on November 13, 1980 in Bad Axe, son of Paul and Linda (Hazzard) Elandt. He was a member of the Harbor Beach High School Class of 1999 and the Port Hope AmVets Post No. 115. He served in the U.S. Army since April of 2000, arriving in Iraq in April of 2003. He is survived by his parents, Paul and Linda Elandt, of Port Hope; two brothers, Stephen Elandt, of Ann Arbor, Matthew Elandt and his wife, Dawn, of Chelsea; one sister, Paula Blanchard and her husband, Brad, of Bad Axe; paternal grandparents, Henry and Dorothy Elandt, of Bad Axe; four nieces, Lauren Hild, Stephanie Blanchard, Ashley Blanchard, and Moira Blanchard; one nephew, John Hild; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Leslie and Fern Hazzard. Tuesday, June 8, 2004 Genevieve M. de Beaubien Genevieve M. de Beaubien, M.D., F.A.C.E.P., 39, passed away unexpectedly at her home on June 6, 2004. She was born in Redford on February 9, 1965 to Albert and Andree (Tiglio) Schornberg. She was a graduate of Wayne State University and while there, she spent a year abroad studying at The Ecole in Lyon, France on a chemistry scholarship. She went on to graduate from Michigan State University, School of Human Medicine. She served her residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital and was Board Certified in Emergency Medicine. She was a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. de Beaubien was a senior partner with Timberline Emergency Physicians and worked in the emergency department of St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Gen had a kind and generous spirit and truly loved animals. On July 4, 1997, she married Brian C. de Beaubien M.D. in Port Austin and he survives her. Other survivors include her mother, Andree Schornberg, of Lexington; brothers and sisters, Al Schornberg and his wife, Cindy, of Charlottesville, Virginia, MaryAnn Clemente and her husband, Drenon, of Canton Township, Maureen Regner and her husband, Erich, of Dearborn Heights, and Jean Pierre Schornberg, of Lexington, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Schornberg, a World War II veteran who had received the Purple Heart. She was born on March 27, 1915 to John and Tillie (Kemp) Martini at 644 E. Main Street, Sebewaing. She graduated valedictorian from Sebewaing High School in 1932. She received a bachelor of arts degree and a life certificate from Michigan State Normal College (later Eastern Michigan University) in 1936. She was a member of Pi Delta Theta sorority and the Honor Kappa Delta Pi. She taught English at Carleton High School in Carleton for two years, one year at Pattengill Junior High School in Lansing and taught high school English for 20 years at Sebewaing High School and USA. She was senior advisor with Mr. Gardener and later Mr. Dunkel for many classes. She married Christian John Bolger in 1939, who predeceased her in 1988. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Gerald, in 1979, a sister-in-law Latholah, in 1997, and a son-in-law, Howard Staisil, in 1996. She is survived by her children, Marel Staisil, of Flint, Donald Bolger, of Durand, Barry Bolger and his wife, Katherine Jahr, of Pembroke Pines, Florida; grandchildren, Michael Staisil and his wife, Susie, Michele DeTombeur and her husband, Christian, Benjamin Bolger, Marci Augenstein and her husband, Jeremy, and Jason Bolger; great- grandchildren, Cole Staisil and Mitchell Augenstein. She was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aid for many years. Jack Davis Jr. Jack Davis, Jr., 71, of Caseville, died Wednesday afternoon, June 2, 2004, from a ruptured brain aneurysm, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. He was born February 25, 1933 in Royal Oak Township to the late Curtis and Nellie (Cunningham) Davis. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Jack drove a truck for Allegany-Ludlum before coming to Caseville. He and his life partner, Ann Tosch, owned and operated the Sandcrest Market near Sleeper State Park for 14 years, selling and retiring in 1999. For the past 13 years, he managed the refuse transfer station near Caseville. Jack was an active member of the Caseville Eagles club and enjoyed tinkering on large and small projects. He was a loving caring man and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Juanita Lewis and her companion, Duane Deorn, of Detroit; grandson, Jack; longtime companion, B. Ann Tosch, of Caseville; her children, Darrel Dossin and his wife, Dinah, of Armada, David Dossin and his wife, Gidget, of Otter Lake, and Dena Withey and her husband, Pat, of Caseville; their children, Paige, Samantha, Darrel II, and Derek; a sister; and three brothers. Jarvis, 61, of Pigeon, died Wednesday afternoon, June 9, 2004, at Bay Medical Center from complications of renal failure. She was born June 7, 1943 at the home of her parents, the late Rudolf and Arleta (Roth) Forster in Elkton. Judy was a 1961 EPBP Laker High School graduate. She raised her family in the Elkton area and has lived in the area all her life. She was the co-owner of JuDen's in Pigeon for several years in the early and mid-90s. Most recently she was a health care aide at Home Sweet Home Retirement Manor in Pigeon but was forced to retire in 2001 because of her failing health. Her free time was filled with reading, knitting, sewing, and playing golf. She also spent much time loving and taking care of her family. Surviving are two sons, Darcy McCarty and his wife, Melissa, of Caseville, and Jeff McCarty and his wife, Christy, of Anchorage, Alaska; two grandchildren, Ashlee and Justin; three sisters, Betsy Farver and her husband, Bruce, and MaryJo Kosinski and her husband, Ed, both of Elkton, and Rhonda Matelski and her husband, Greg, of Bad Axe; and her brother, Kevin Forster and his wife, Peggy, of Caseville. Kanyak, 45, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, a loving husband, son, brother and uncle, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 7, 2004. He was born September 30, 1958 at Scheurer Hospital, Pigeon, to Donald and Sylvia (Cilc) Kanyak. Shortly after high school, he started Kanyak Paint and Body in Caseville and operated it 23 years until moving to Tennessee in 2000. On February 8, 2001, he was united in marriage to Jo Varga in Tennessee. Ken loved to fish and search, find and collect Indian arrowheads. Matt was an employee of Hunter's Bar in Harbor Beach and enjoyed being in the Pool Leagues and being with friends. Shirley Reige Shirley H. Reige, 74, of Sebewaing, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Covenant HealthCare Cooper in Saginaw following a brief illness. She was born December 4, 1929 in Saginaw, daughter of the late Omar and Esther (Gerth) Pobanz. She was a 1947 graduate of Unionville High School and was united in marriage to William Reige on December 4, 1948 in Unionville. Shirley had been a cook at Immanuel Lutheran School in Sebewaing for 25 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing and the Sebewaing American Legion Auxiliary, Post No. 293. She enjoyed cooking. Surviving are her husband, William; two sons, Michael Reige, Randall Reige and his wife, Rhonda, all of Sebewaing; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Reige, of Sebewaing, Carolyn Hoppe and her husband, Ralph, of Mt. Steve Seneski Mr. Steve Seneski, 91, of Palms, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at his residence. He was born February 22, 1913 in Cheboygan. He married Agnes Scott on Drummond Island. She preceded him in death on October 5, 1993. Mr. Seneski attended Country School in the Cheboygan area. He was an iron worker and blacksmith, worked on the Mackinaw Bridge and was a welder on Drummond Island for 30 years. Steve did various welding jobs including personal work for Mr. Tom Monaghan. He is survived by one niece, Mary Ellen and her husband, Bill; one nephew; special in-laws, Anthony "Whitey" and Doris Zdrojewski, of Palms, Gordon and Betty Scott, of Sandusky, Mary Scott, of Lexington and Betsy Scott, of Port Huron. He was currently working for Utica Enterprises as a design engineer. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing, especially with his family and friends. Lewis, Sr., 80, lifelong resident of Bad Axe, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. He was born November 11, 1923 in Ubly, son of the late George and Alta (Jackson) Lewis. Mr. Lewis owned and operated Stan's Garage in Bad Axe for more than 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, gardening, and playing cards. Richard Warchuck Sr. Mr. Richard Charles Warchuck, Sr., 69, of Ruth and Hale, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born October 6, 1934 in Detroit, son of the late Joseph Paul and Mamie Magdalene (Deachin) Warchuck. He married Rita Mabel Holdwick on November 29, 1952 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Mr. Warchuck attended Minden City School. He was a former Sherman Township treasurer, supervisor and assessor. He was a long-time farmer and was employed by the Upjohn Corporation in the Economical Division. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Warchuck was a parishioner of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Ruth and a current parishioner of St. Pius Catholic Church of Hale. He was a member of the Eagles Club in Hale. Schuman, 90, of Caseville Township and Lake Worth, Florida, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw.
