Sunday, March 7, 2004 Gerald Lee Karr Gerald Lee Karr, 78, of Harbor Beach and formerly of Waterford, died Friday, March 5, 2004. Gerald was the beloved husband of Peggy for 57 years, and the dear father of Jeff Karr and his wife, Julie, of Florida, Jerry Karr and his wife, Peggy, of Ruby, Katherine "Kit" Pataska and her husband, Richard, of Wisconsin, Tom Karr, of Pontiac, and Tim Karr and his wife, Daryl, of Metamora. He's also survived by eight grandchildren. Gerald was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Coats Funeral Home, 3141 Sashabaw Road, Waterford. Burial will follow at Ottawa Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Anna Watchowski Anna Watchowski, 97, of Dwight Township, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was born February 9, 1907 in Kinde to the late Michael and Agnes (Laseski) Wisneski. Anna married Floyd Watchowski on November 25, 1925. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1988. Anna was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kinde. She was a Holy Rosary Sadality Honorary Life Member of the Daughters of Isabella for more than 50 years. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She liked working in her vegetable and flower garden and visiting with family and friends. Anna is survived by four daughters, Edna Ventline and her husband, Harry, of Port Austin, Marie Horetski and her husband, Daniel, of Kinde, Janice Osentoski and her husband, Robert, of Troy and Rose Gorney and her husband, Arnold, of Sterling Heights; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Stella Jaworski, of Detroit; one brother, Felix Wisneski and his wife, Theresa, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Bernice Novack; and one son, Richard Watchowski. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kinde. Fr. Mieczslaw Oniskiewica will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Kinde. Robert McMullen Robert McMullen, 83, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2004, at his home in Fort Myers, Florida. He was born in Bad Axe on August 22, 1920 to Percy and Cassie (Morrison) McMullen. He served in the Navy on a patrol craft in the South Pacific from 1941-1945. He retired from the Treasury Department of the U.S. Federal Government service after 30 years. Moving from Michigan, his family became full-time residents of Lee County in Florida in 1957. He was a member of Araba Temple and a life member of Scottish Rite of Fort Myers. He was a life member of Verona-Huron Lodge 365. He is survived by his living wife of 59 years, Anna (Doty) McMullen, of Ft. Myers; his son, Dr. Robert McMullen, of New York City; grandchildren, Dawn McMullen, Diana McMullen, Deirdre McMullen, Beatrice McMullen and Robert McMullen. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald McMullen; and his brother, Captain William McMullen, U.S. Air Force. Stanley Bezemek Jr. Stanley R. Bezemek Jr., 57, of Palms, lifelong friend and employee of the Joe Van Dalen family, passed away unexpectedly Thursday night, March 4, 2004, at Deckerville Community Hospital. Monday, March 08, 2004 Beatrice Moxlow Beatrice (Betty) Moxlow, 81, of Port Sanilac, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2004, in Southfield. She was born April 8, 1922 in Minden City, daughter of the late Adolph and Mary (Stein) Schock. She married Robert John Moxlow on June 28, 1941 in Ruth. He passed away November 12, 1988. Betty attended the Lindenwood School and graduated from Bad Axe High School. She graduated from the Virginia Farrell School of Cosmetology. Betty owned and operated a beauty shop. She also taught classes at beauty colleges. Surviving her are two daughters, Marjorie Smith and her husband, Donald, of Farmington Hills and Mary Jane Jorgensen and her husband, Morten, of Wisconsin; three sons, Ronald Moxlow and John Moxlow, both of Allen Park, and Robert Moxlow and his wife, Kathleen, of Milford; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Teeple, of Minden City and Doris Schumacher and her husband, Gerald, of Romeo; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Olive McCoy, and one brother, Harold Schock. Tuesday, March 9, 2004 Ervin Moskwa Ervin S. Moskwa, 76, of Caseville, died Sunday evening, March 7, 2004, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness, Florida. He was born April 27, 1927 in Detroit to the late Thomas and Joanna (Balcerwiak) Moskwa. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany during World War II returning home in January of 1947. In 1951, he began working at Chrysler Corp., Warren Stamping, becoming a tool and die maker. On June 23, 1966, he was united in marriage to Virginia Goelet in Mount Clemens. They built a cottage in Lake Township that year and moved to it permanently in December of 1982 when Ervin retired. Virginia passed away September 4, 1984 and was buried at St. Roch Cemetery. He was a member of the St. Roch Catholic Church and the Caseville Eagles. He is survived by his brother, Norbert Moskwa, of Hernando, Florida.; and sister, Virginia Seracki, of Maple City. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2004, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville. The Rev. Fr. Andrews, 97, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2004, in Courtney Manor Nursing Center, Bad Axe. Born in Brown City on December 16, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Arthur John and Edith (Willard) Brown. On January 23, 1924, Bernice and Robert Jeffers were united in marriage in Detroit. Robert preceded her in death on October 28, 1967. On November 7, 1970, Bernice married Ervin Andrews in Harbor Beach. Ervin preceded her in death on January 11, 1993. Bernice was a member of the Community Church of Christ in Harbor Beach. She is survived by her children, Betty Guitar and her husband, Alvin, of Harbor Beach, Vonda Fyfe and her husband, Charles, of Harbor Beach, Robert Jeffers and his friend, Beulah, of Oak Park, Illinois, JoAnne Leese and her husband, Bernard, of Port Hope, and Thomas Jeffers and his wife, Arlene, of Allen Park; 16 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great- grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Brabyn, of Lexington; and a brother, Max Brown, of Sidnaw. Bernice was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Tom and J.E. Brown; and two sisters, Genevieve Brown and Beatrice Chartier. Braun, 72, of Harbor Beach, passed away Monday, March 8, 2004, in William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, following a short illness. Born on November 22, 1931 in Harbor Beach, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary (Hessling) Braun. He and Wilma Weber were united in marriage on August 9, 1958 at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. Bob was a retired Sand Beach Township farmer and an avid golfer, bowler and card player especially enjoyed euchre and bridge. He belonged to two Harbor Beach Golf Leagues, the Port Hope Retirees and the Harbor Beach Senior Citizens and their bowling leagues, the Kings and Queens Bowling League in Harbor Beach for more than 40 years, the Farm Bureau, and the Bridge Club. He was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach and the Men's Club and the Ushers Club. Bob is survived by his wife, Wilma Braun, of Harbor Beach; three daughters, Valerie Roggenbuck and her husband, Gary, of Harbor Beach, Sharon Jahn and her husband, Mark, of Jeddo, and Brenda Thompson and her husband, James, of Lake Forest, California; and one son, Dallas Braun and his wife, Amy, of Harbor Beach; six grandchildren, Kyle, Wesley, and Holly Roggenbuck, Jordan and Alexes Braun, and Alyssa Jahn; three brothers, Clarence Braun and his wife, Loraine, of Harbor Beach, Leo Braun and his wife, Virginia, of Port Hope, Earl Braun and his wife, Shirley, of Port Hope; one sister, Margaret Swenson, of Clinton Township; and many nieces and nephews. Durham, 99, of Cass City, passed away Sunday morning, March 7, 2004. He was born in Centerville, Tennessee on February 22, 1905, the son of John P. and Bessie (Taylor) Durham. Luther married the former Martha A. Tonn on October 14, 1933 in Kentucky. She preceded him in death on February 5, 1999. He retired from Uniroyal-Goodrich Corporation in Detroit in 1965 following 37 years of service. In his early years, he enjoyed working on farms and harvesting wheat in the northwest. Surviving are his sons, Edward and his wife, Edith, of Shelby Township, and Robert and his wife, Janet, of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Bruce, Linda, Laurie, Martha, Karen, Richard and Gary; and five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Jack and his wife, Nancy, Eugene and his wife, Hilda, Ada Anderson and Neola Patterson, all of Tennessee, Sammy Joe and his wife, Willene, of Sterling Heights. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Shemko, in 2003; brother, Newt; and sisters, Early May Street and Carliss Bratcher. A memorial service will take place at a later date. David Gordon David J. Gordon, 57, of Port Austin, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He was born on December 25, 1946 in Port Austin, son of the late Jack and Cecilia (Krull) Gordon. David married Kay Reimann on September 10, 1966 in Port Austin. David worked as a builder for many years with his father at Jack R. Gordon Builders. He then took over the business. He remained in the building business until 1970 when he started Thumb Well Drilling. David remained very active in the family business until his last days. He served as the village clerk in Port Austin and was a long time village council member. David served as a board member of the Port Austin Fire Department, Central Huron Ambulance, and the Port Austin Area Sewer and Water Authority. He was a past member of the Port Austin Fire Department. David enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his pets. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time at the shop. David was always happy and enjoyed helping anyone anyway he could. He is survived by his wife, Kay, of Port Austin; his sons, Todd Gordon and his fiancee, Tracy, of Port Austin, Mark Gordon and his wife, Shelli, of Port Austin, and Brad Gordon and his wife, Rose, of Jackson; three brothers, Peter Gordon and his wife, Nancy, of Tucson, Arizona, Jack Gordon II and his wife, Gloria, of Troy, and Greg Gordon and his wife, Lana, of Port Austin; four sisters, Janice Warren and her husband, Robert, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Sharon Butterworth and her husband, Tom, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, Debra Schumacher and her husband, Jim, of Port Austin, and Pamela Finan and her husband, Pat, of Vancouver, Washington; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Monte, and an infant sister, Patricia Ann. Gunden, 79, of Pigeon, passed away Tuesday morning, March 9, 2004, at her home. She was born on July 18, 1924 in Pigeon, daughter of the late David and Lydia (Shetler) Albrecht and graduated from the Weiss School. She was united in marriage to Marlin D. Gunden in April 1945 in Pigeon. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1988. Mrs. Gunden was a homemaker throughout her lifetime, and was a sales representative for Tupperware for many years. She was a member of the Pigeon River Mennonite Church and enjoyed sewing with the Pigeon River sewing circle. She is survived by five children, Richard Gunden and his wife, Nancy, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Ronald Gunden and his wife, Linda, of Chicago, Illinois, Jay Gunden and his wife, Peggy, of Farwell, Clayton Gunden and his wife, Emma, of Hesston, Kansas, Lamar Gunden and his wife, Cathy, of Clare; 11 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Gertrude Dietzel, of Florida, Vera Lyles, of California, Mildred Rheinheimer and Greta Albrecht, both of Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Leona Albrecht; and one brother, Clayton Albrecht. Richard Harnisch Mr. Richard James Harnisch, 64, of Harbor Beach and formerly of Delaware Township, passed away Sunday night, March 7, 2004, at the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Richard was born June 6, 1939 in Bad Axe to the late Frank and Minnie H. (Schaaf) Harnisch. He married Audrey Jacobs on April 16, 1971 in Forestville. Richard was a 1958 graduate of Deckerville High School. He farmed with his parents and then with his wife until 1991. He had resided in Delaware Township until 1998 when he moved to Harbor Beach. He was a member, past president, and trustee of the former Unity United Church of Christ of Forestville. He was a member of the Sanilac County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting, collecting John Deere toy tractors and implements. Richard is survived by his wife, Audrey, of Harbor Beach; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Ford; and one brother-in-law, Bill Ford. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Smigielski Funeral Home in Minden City. The Rev. Clarence W. Leona Terbrack Mrs. Leona Marie Terbrack, 89, of Ruth, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Leona was born January 19, 1915 to the late Frederick and Ida (Wolschleger) Terbrack. She married Arnold Terbrack on January 20, 1940 at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1989. Leona was a graduate of a country school. She did domestic work and cooked at SS. Peter and Paul School for 20 years. She worked at Hamil Manufacturing in Bad Axe for 10 years before she retired in 1985. She was a life long parishioner at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth and a member of SS. Peter and Paul Christian Mothers. She enjoyed gardening and has walked the Mackinaw Bridge for 20 years. Leona is survived by one daughter, Ida Mae Messing and her husband, Richard, of Ruth; two sons, Aubrey Terbrack and his wife, Donna, of Troy, Darrell Terbrack and his wife, Sandra, of Saginaw; six grandchildren, Marshall Messing, Lisa Braun and her husband, Rod, Nicole McCormick and her husband, Bryan, James Terbrack, Brett Terbrack and his wife, Tara, Lindsey Terbrack; one great-grandson, Justin McCormick; three sisters, Marie Seidl and her husband, Andrew, of Huntington Woods, Lucille Booms and her husband, LaVern, of Edenville, Elaine Bismack, of Berkley; two brothers, Nicholas Terbrack and his wife, Julia, of Royal Oak and Elmer Terbrack and his wife, Dianne, of Grand Rapids. Willenberg, 14, of Caseville, died Tuesday morning at her home after being overcome by carbon monoxide. She was born March 21, 1989 in Bad Axe to Benjamin and Dana (Deming) Willenberg. Erika was a freshman at Caseville Public School and was very involved with school activities. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the band, and very active in sports, including volleyball, basketball and softball. She loved school and reading, leaving junior high as valedictorian of her eighth grade class. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville, and attended youth group activities at the Caseville Methodist Church. Surviving are her parents, Ben and Dana Willenberg, of Caseville; two sisters, Jessica, of West Palm Beach, Florida., and Elizabeth, of Caseville; her paternal grandparents, Frank and Nancy Willenberg, of Morrilton, Arkansas; maternal grandparents, William and Virginia Deming, of Caseville; her maternal great-grandmother, Dorothy E. Friday, March 12, 2004 Kenneth Matthews Kenneth Matthews, 57, of Lakeview, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at his home with his family at his side. Kenneth was born in Ypsilanti on May 17, 1947 to Leonard C. and Betty Jane Ordway Matthews. Kenneth was raised in the Mount Pleasant area and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School Class of 1965. In May of 1966, Kenneth enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where as a motor vehicle operator, he was stationed in Vietnam for more than one year. He was employed as a crane operator and truck driver for General Motors at the metal fabrications plant in Flint for more than 31 years. On May 24, 1968, in Six Lakes, Ken married Linda Joyce Shelly, his wife of more than 18 years. Ken enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, and traveling. Kenneth and Linda made their home in Cass City for 15 years before moving to the Lakeview area in 2001. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Linda; mother, Betty, of Owosso; three sons, Kenneth William Matthews and his wife, Jennifer Rose, of Clarkston, Curtis Ray Harju, of Middleton, and Brett Allen Matthews of Owosso; two daughters, Cynthia Ann Shivley and her husband, Michael Todd, of Cass City, and Christy Sue Matthews, of Indiana; seven grandchildren, Frank Clayton Abfalter, Cody James Harju, Christopher Allen Remsing, Aaryn Tyler Matthews, Megan Nichol Matthews, Christopher Fleming, and Kylee Fleming; two sisters, Kathy Jean and her husband, Victor Turk, and Linda Lou and her husband, Ed Neff. He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Leonard Charles Matthews. Geiger, 83, of Marlette and formerly of Deford, passed away Friday morning, March 12, 2004, at the Marlette Community Hospital. A complete obituary will be in Sunday's Huron Daily Tribune.
