Hebert, 92, of Port Austin, died Friday, November 5, 2004, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born October 30, 1912 in Hume Township, daughter of the late August and Nellie (Culhane) Gottschalk. Christine married Lawrence Hebert in November of 1940 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. He preceded her in death in April of 1979. Christine was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. She was a bookkeeper for Port Austin Township for many years. Christine loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, and playing cards. Christine is survived by her children: Sharon Nixon and her husband, Dick, of Rochester Hills, Karoleen Schafer, of Annapolis, Maryland, and Lawrence Hebert and his wife, Penny, of Clinton Township; seven grandchildren, Kelly, Nancy, Mark, Tom, Kirsten, Jacob and Matthew; seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Mallory, Avery, Geneva, Ryan, Sean, and Nicole. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Don, John and Sam Gottschalk; and one sister, Frances Souva. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 8 2004, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. The Rev. Robert Pare, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde and at 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the church. There will be a rosary service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Therese Rose Osentoski Therese R. Osentoski, 76, of Ubly, died Thursday, November 4, 2004, in her home with her family by her side. She was born March 24, 1928 in Argyle to George and Valerie (Cregeur) Langenburg. She married Marshall Osentoski on September 13, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle. Therese was an avid gardener, seamstress, candle maker, and baker. She was a great cook. There was nothing she couldn't do. She is a former President of Christian Mothers. Therese was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly, a former Daughter of Isabella, and taught catechism for years. She worked in the greenhouse/florist business. She lived in Farmington Hills for 35 years. Therese is survived by her husband, Marshall; children, Paul Osentoski and his wife, Marianne, of Hillsdale, Pete Osentoski and his wife, Sheryl, of Murray, Nebraska, John Osentoski and his wife, Lorrie, of Livonia, George Osentoski and his wife, Carol, of Tucker, Georgia, and Ann Conley and her husband, Tom, of Deford; grandchildren, Sarah, Joseph, Emma, Marshall, Toni Osentoski, Lisa Nielson and her husband, John, Kelli, Kyle, Olivia, Sally, Anthony Osentoski, Marshall Conley, Grace Conley, Sharon Polman, Terri Pippin, and Gary Pippin; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Heather, Jessica, and Travis; brothers, William Langenburg and Leigh Langenburg; sisters-in-law, Rita Langenburg, Doreena Langenburg, and Jeanette Langenburg; nieces Therese was raised with, Beatrice Flannery, and Pauline Polega; and many nieces and nephews. Krystal Dawn Weinert Krystal Dawn Weinert, 17, of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2004. She was born on August 18, 1987 in Murray, Kentucky, daughter of Julie Wilson and James H. Weinert, Sr. Krystal was a senior at Bad Axe High School. She enjoyed crafts, listening to music, visiting and laughing with friends, horses, NASCAR, and was a Michigan football fan. She is survived by her mother, Julie Wilson, of Bad Axe; her father, James H. Weinert, Sr., of Cadillac; five sisters, Michelle Barnett, Diane Hart, Melanie Sheltrown, Kaysee and Rena Weinert; six brothers, Jimmy, Jerry, Kenny, Jeromey and Justin Weinert and Kris Twining; one step-brother, Shane Krug; and special friends, Michael Nelson and Kelsey Crawford. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 8, 2004, at Evangelife Assembly of God Church in Bad Axe. The Rev. Robert Smith, pastor, will officiate. Gosselin, 61, of Roseville, died Saturday, November 6, 2004, in Oak Beach. He was born on August 29, 1943 in Detroit, son of the late David and Marion (Clos) Gosselin. David married Nancy Wilson on April 24, 1964 at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in Detroit. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Roseville; five children, David Gosselin and his wife, Barbara, of Eastpointe, Cindy Cruce and her husband, Darrin, of Roseville, John Gosselin and his wife, Nancy, of Auburn, Mark Gosselin and his wife, Lisa, of Eaton Rapids, and Daniel Gosselin, of Roseville; 17 grandchildren, Ashlyn and Jesse, Jacob, Brittany, and Kylie, Devin, Patrick, Mickey, Shane, Jared, Ian, Brendan, Caleb, and Matthew, and Mark, Megan, and Hannah; and one expected grandchild; four sisters, Louise McIlhargie and her husband, Richard, Vernetta King and her husband, Dale, Marion Yax and her husband, Gerald, and Rita Tibbits and her husband, Sam, and his brother, Joseph Gosselin and his wife, Sandra. David was a United States Army Veteran of five years and served in Vietnam. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseville. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Ellen Catherine Hazard Ellen Catherine Hazard, 89, of Colfax Township, died Saturday morning, November 6, 2004, at Tender Care in Cass City. She was born October 27, 1915 in New Lothrup at the home of her parents, the late Robert and Ethel (Smith) Devroye. She moved to Huron County with her parents and siblings in 1921, settling in Caseville. On September 20, 1934, she was united in marriage to William H. Hazard at the Caseville Methodist Parsonage. Bill preceded her in death July 19, 1997. Catherine attended the Elkton Missionary Church, past chairman of the Huron County Extension Clubs and the Huron County Farm Bureau. Surviving are three sons, Don Hazard and his wife, Beverly, Russ Hazard and his wife, Erma, and Kinsey Hazard and his wife, Phyllis, all of Bad Axe; her daughter-in-law, Judy Hazard and her friend, Dean Alliton, of Highland; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Devroye and his wife, Beverly, of Caseville; her sister, Bertha Cilc, of Caseville. Jakubowski Helen F. Jakubowski, 84, of Port Austin, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2004, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born on April 1, 1920 in Detroit, daughter of the late Michael and Regina (Wolna) Kotrys. Helen married Leo J. Jakubowski on June 17, 1940. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1989. Helen and her husband moved from Shelby to Port Austin in 1971. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. She enjoyed ceramics, playing board games and playing cards. Helen is survived by her two sons, Robert Jakubowski and his wife, Nadine, and Leon Jakubowski and his wife, Debbie, all of Port Austin; grandchildren, Michelle, Christopher, and Cassandra Deel and her husband, Martin, and Guy Johnston and his wife, Annette; great-grandchildren, Courtney Deel and Haylee and Devin Johnston; and sister-in-law, Vicki. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Joseph, Gregory, Lawrence, Rudolph, Edward, and Louie. "Bill" Prill, 53, of Elkton, passed away on Sunday evening, November 7, 2004, at Hills and Dales Hospital in Cass City of complications following a heart attack two months ago. He was born January 7, 1951 in Bad Axe to Thomas and Flora (Hubbard) Prill and moved to Elkton in his teens. On September 16, 1972, he was united in marriage to Laura L. Wiederhold at Faith Gospel, Bad Axe. Bill worked at Wiederhold Repair for several years and at Boom Construction before starting his own business, Bill's Home Improvements, in 1989. He was a member of the Community Wesleyan Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an excellent father, giving all for his family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Laura; four children, Thomas Prill and his friend, Maria Martinez, Melissa, Matt and Tarah Prill, all of Elkton; two grandsons, Travis and Mason; his parents, Thomas and Flora Prill, of Ubly; four brothers, Paul Prill and his wife, Gail, of Mayville, Raymond Prill, of New York, Alex Prill and his wife, Theresa, and Ed Prill and his wife, Cheryl, both of Bad Axe; and two sisters, Mary Prill, of Deckerville and Betty Younglove and her husband, Bill, of Cass City. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2004, at the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. The Rev. Wednesday, November 10, 2004 Irene Britt Irene Britt, 81, resident of Bad Axe and former resident of Cass City, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2004, at Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was born December 20, 1922 in Detroit, daughter of the late Walter and Cecila (Derlicki) Bukoski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eli Martin. She then married Howard Britt who also preceded her in death. Ms. Britt was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church of Sheridan Corners. She is survived by Michael Jackson and his wife, Mary Lou, of Bad Axe. A Mass of Christian burial took place at 11 a.m. today, November 10, 2004, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church of Sheridan Corners. Fr. Steve Fillion officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be offered to the donor's choice. Gary E. May Gary E. May, 58, of Russell, Kentucky, passed away on Monday November 8, 2004, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. He was born April 20, 1946 in Bay City to the late George Edward May, Jr. and Patricia Cleo May. Gary was a general manager with Hertz Rent A Car. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran. He was also a member of Poage Masonic Lodge No. 325, Ashland Commandry No. 28, Everett Council No. 65, Apperson Chapter No. 81, El Hasa Shrine, and a Knight Mason. He is survived by his wife, Leeann Horst Stirrett May, of Russell, Kentucky; a son, Travis James May, of Tampa, Florida; and step-sons, Chad Stirrett and his wife, Renee, of Ortonville, Stu Stirrett and his wife, Laura, of Westland; a sister, Kathleen Nagy, of Edgewood, Kentucky; one nephew, Steve Nagy, of Edgewood, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Azia, Isiah, Zoe, Grace, Gunnar, and Braden. Thursday, November 11, 2004 Isis Storm Briggs Isis Storm Briggs, 23 days, of Cass City, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 9, 2004. Friday, November 12, 2004 Casimer "Cass" Schefka Mr. Casimer "Cass" Schefka, 86, of Ubly, passed away Thursday morning, November 11, 2004, at his residence after a short illness. Cass was born March 4, 1918 in Parisville to the late Francis "Frank" and Rose (Pyrek) Schefka. He married Frances Pfaff on September 14, 1940 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. She preceded him in death on June 1, 1997. Cass was a graduate of the Sigel Country School #2. He farmed from 1932 to 1955. He worked for Zinger Funeral Home in Ubly for 26 years from 1955 to 1981 when it became Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home. He worked at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home for 20 years from 1981 to 2001. He moved to Ubly in 1963. He was a lifelong parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where he was a member of the Men's Club and the Cemetery Committee. He was a member of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council #3823. He was the Grand Marshall for the 2004 Ubly Homecoming Parade. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Cass is survived by one son, Bernard Schefka and his wife, Kay, of Utica; four daughters, Mary Anna Longuski and her husband, Marv, of Peck, Delphine Czewski and her husband, Jim, of Ubly, Jean Grifka and her husband, Tony, of Ubly, Elaine Briolat and her husband, Virg, of Ubly; 10 grandchildren, Michael Schefka and his wife, Shelly, of Shelby Township, Stephen Schefka, of Lansing, John Schefka and his wife, Joann, of Sterling Heights, Andrew Longuski and his wife, Kelly, of Midland, Eric Longuski and his wife, Tammy, of China Township, Vicki Lynn VanConant and her husband, Jason, of Rosebush, Kristen Czewski, of Sterling Heights, Scott Czewski and his wife, Tammy, of Lansing, James Czewski, of Troy, Rachel Czewski, of Anaheim, California; four step-grandchildren, Brenda Wilfong and her husband, Rick, of Snover, Nancy Doerr and her husband, Dale, of Snover, Jodi Davis and her husband, Chris, of Ubly, Daryl Grifka of Guin, Alabama; 11 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Earl Pfaff and his wife, Doris, of Ruth. Cass was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Oberski and her husband, Roman. A Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2004, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. The Rev. Andrzej Boroch, pastor, and the Rev. Stanley Surman, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. There will be a parish vigil service at 3 p.m. on Sunday. There also will be a joint rosary at 7 p.m. on Sunday by the Ruth Knights of Columbus and the St. Mary Men's Club. Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund. 1
