Beadle, 86, of Caseville, died Friday evening, August 20, 2004, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. He was born September 21, 1917 at the home of his parents, the late Darling and Frances (Nicklas) Beadle in Caseville. On November 22, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mildred Stoddard at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Detroit. She preceded him in death July 7, 1998. Tom served in the U.S. Army during World War II. When he returned home, he organized the Pvt. James D. Donovan VFW Post #7910 in Dearborn Heights and held the first meeting in his basement. He had been employed at Detroit Engineering for more than 20 years, retiring in 1971 for health reasons and returned to Caseville that same year. Tom was a very active member of St. Roch Catholic Church, past commander and life member of the Pvt. James D Donovan VFW and the Caseville American Legion and was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Caseville-Pigeon. He was the loving father of three children, Millie (Ron) Tyszkiewicz, of Garden City, Patricia (Larry) Kopczyk, of Howell and Charles (Ruth) Beadle, of Howell; dear grandfather of 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Kimberly (Steve), Kenneth (Sheri), Kurt (Kim), Kristin (Shawn), Keith, Janice (Rodney), Scott, Tracey, Thomas (Cheri), Teresa (David), Kenneth (Cyndy) and Christopher (Heather); and great grandfather to Emily, Taylor, Bradley, Natalie, Brooke, Joshua, Heather, Tyler, Jewel, Chase, Paige, Kyle, Alexa, Raegan, Casey, Korena and Hudson. He also leaves four brothers, Burt (Lorraine) Beadle and Francis (Thelma) Beadle, both of Caseville, Herb (Jean) Beadle, of Westland, and Harold (Betty) Beadle, of Hiawassee, Georgia; and four sisters, Marion Parent, Jo Anderson and Leona (Fred) Langley, all of Caseville, and Jessie (Don) Otto, of Pigeon. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Bill and George Beadle and a sister, Geraldine Parent. A funeral mass will be conducted 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville. Rev. Fr. Kenneth Yaroch, pastor, will officiate with military honors and burial in the church cemetery. A Knights of Columbus rosary service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville, where friends may call from 2-9 p.m. on Monday and at the church after 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Words of condolence may be left at www.CFCcaseville.com Estelle Bottke Estelle Bottke, 88, of Sebewaing, died Friday morning, August 20, 2004, at TenderCare of Cass City following a lengthy illness. She was born April 25, 1916 in Detroit, daughter of the late Albert and Agnes (Nizio) Lelonek. She was united in marriage to Ernest A. Bottke, Jr. on July 30, 1955 in Pinckney. She had been employed at the Sunshine Bakery in Detroit for 17 years, and later owned and operated a restaurant in Pinckney for two years. They moved to Sebewaing in 1980. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed square dancing, sewing, knitting, needlepoint, baking and music. Surviving are her husband, Ernest A. Bottke, Jr., of Sebewaing; one step-son, Harry J. Buccilli, of Anchorage, Alaska; two sons, Ernest A. Bottke, III, of Sebewaing, and Kurtis B. Bottke, of Pinnebog; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Davis, of Temecula, California; one brother, Albert Lelonek and his wife, Denise, of Clawson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Edward and John Lelonek; one sister, Delores Bradley. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Arthur Stone will officiate with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Monday, August 23, 2004 Franklin Flannery Franklin L. Flannery, 68, of Bad Axe, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2004, at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, Illinois. He was the son of the late Patrick and Helen (Donner) Flannery. Frank was born June 20, 1936 in Bad Axe. Mr. Flannery graduated from Elkton High School, Class of 1954, and participated in football and track and was elected class president during his junior year. He was selected first team halfback on the all-area Class C honor team by the Saginaw News in 1952. He also received the Northern Thumb "C" Conference first team All-Conference Award that same year. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he attended Central Michigan University. He is survived by two sisters, Patricia M. Flannery Pratt and her husband, Dewey, of Vero Beach, Florida, and Marilyn A. Flannery Roelofs and her husband, Richard, of Saco, Maine; several nieces and nephews, Maurice J. Flannery, II, Kittie Flannery Graf, Elizabeth A. Flannery Dunn, Michelle R. Roelofs Leaperance, and Mary M. Griggs; numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Maurice J. Flannery and Delphus J. Flannery; one sister, Corrine M. Flannery Griggs; one nephew, Thomas W. Flannery. Mass of Resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe with Fr. James Carlson, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21. Stanislawa "Stella" Szegidewicz Stanislawa "Stella" Szegidewicz, 89, of Sand Point, died Sunday morning, August 22, 2004, at her home after suffering an apparent heart attack. Koglin, 77, resident of Bloomfield Township near Port Hope, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at Huron Medical Center, Bad Axe. Mr. Koglin was born November 28, 1926 at Harbor Beach. He was the son of the late William Koglin and Anna (Schmidt) Koglin. Gerald was united in marriage to Miss Regina Heilig on September 9, 1961 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Port Hope. He was an active member and usher for many years. He attended Jerhico Rural Country School and was a graduate of Bad Axe High School Class of 1944. He was a well-known Bloomfield Township farmer and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Bad Axe. Gerald and his wife were members of the Tip of the Thumb Square Dance Club. Gerald enjoyed working outdoors with his farm animals, hunting with his beagle dogs, Squirt and Rex, fishing, ice fishing, playing cards, and visiting with his family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Regina; one son, Rod Koglin and his wife, Debra, of Rapson; two daughters, Margaret McAleer and her husband, Mark, of Bad Axe, and Shirley Miller and her husband, Lee, Sr., of Bad Axe; eight grandchildren, Erica Koglin, Kimberly Koglin, Justin Koglin, Cameron Koglin, Sean McAleer, Andrew McAleer, Lee Miller, Jr., and Katherine Miller; one brother, William Koglin and his wife, Florence, of Holt; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial offerings may be offered to the Family Discretionary Fund. Howard James Whitaker Howard James "Jim" Whitaker, 84, of Port Austin Township, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at his home. Jim was born on October 24, 1920 in Ecorse, son of the late Otto and Amanda (Reynolds) Whitaker. He and Elaine Plichta were married on January 16, 1942 at St. Paul the Apostle Lutheran Church in Detroit. Jim was a resident of the Port Austin area for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and teasing friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; three children, Barbara Burke and her husband, Earl, of Harbor Beach, Howard Whitaker and his wife, Ryna, of Redford, and Bruce Whitaker and his wife, Denise, of Livonia; nine grandchildren, Ronald, Elaine, Amanda, Patricia, Carrie, Howard, Sarah, Jessica, and Daniel; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Smith, of Wayne; two nieces, Sharon Duka and her husband, Nick, and Marjorie Mears; a nephew, Ronald Whitaker and his wife, Joan; dear friends, Gernith Janos, of Port Austin and Sarah Raupp, of Taylor. Thursday, August 26, 2004 – No obituaries reported Friday, August 27, 2004 David S. "Sal" Pitcher David S. "Sal" Pitcher, 86, resident of Filion, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2004, at his home. Mr. Pitcher was born January 6, 1918 at Bad Axe. He was the son of the late David Pitcher and Eva (Shelton) Pitcher. David was united in marriage to Miss Ruth Mary Eddy on August 23, 1941. She preceded him in death on January 31, 1993. Mr. Pitcher attended Bad Axe Free Methodist Church. He attended the church Rural Country School and was a graduate of Kinde High School, class of 1937. He was an advertising salesman for the Huron Daily Tribune for 10 years and retired in 1979. David enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards, and euchre, meeting new people, and spending time with his family. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Smith and her husband, Gregg, of Filion; three grandchildren, David P. Pitcher, of Caseville, Justin London and his wife, Lori, of Bad Axe, Kayla Kowalewicz and her husband, Frank, of Clawson; three great- grandchildren, Mackenzie Kowalewicz, Katerina Kowalewicz and Jack London; three step-great-grandchildren, Ashley Ziel, Andrew Ziel, Amber Ziel; several nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Eldora Harrison; and a special friend, Durell Gilbert. Mr. Pitcher was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife; two sons, Allen and William; a brother, Charles; and one granddaughter, Sandra M. Pitcher. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 30, 2004, at Cass City Missionary Church, 4449 Koepfgen Road, Cass City. Arrangements are being handled by Thabet Funeral Home, Cass City. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the church. Memorials can be made to the Cass City Missionary Church. 1
