Sunday, October 24, 2004 Hannah Bouvrette Hannah Viola Bouvrette, 80, of Filion, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2004, at Huron Medical Center. She was born September 1, 1924, in Grant Township to the late Walter and Ida (Menzel) Lutat. Hannah was united in marriage to Virgil Bouvrette on June 2, 1956 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Kinde. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2000. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also made church banners for St. Peter's. Hannah worked at Jackson's Grocery Store in Bad Axe, Hubbard Hospital in Bad Axe, and the Auto Light Plant in Bay City. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, arts and crafts and home decorating. She is survived by one son, David Bouvrette, of Filion; one daughter, Sandra Kipp and her husband, Larry, of Novi; one brother, Arnold Lutat, of Bad Axe; two sisters, Florence Iddings, of Filion, and Edna Schulz, of Pigeon; three grandchildren, Tara, Ashley and Chelsea; several nieces and nephews; three sisters-in- law, Martha Lutat, of Deckerville, Margaret Bouvrette, of Bad Axe, and Lena Baumert, of California. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Otto Lutat. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde. Officiating will be the Rev. David L. Putz. Burial will be in the Colfax Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the MacAlpine Funeral Home-Gage Chapel and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be offered to the St. Peter's Building Fund, Family Discretionary Fund, or to the donor's choice. Irene Ginther Irene M. Ginther, 86, of Harbor Beach, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2004, in the Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe. Born in Detroit on December 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Bradley and Ida (Emerick) Pelton. Irene was united in marriage to Lawrence Elliott on June 19, 1935. Lawrence preceded her in death on February 25, 1944. On June 2, 1945, Irene was united in marriage to Jacob Ginther in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1979. Irene enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, and knitting and was a caregiver for many older folks in the area. She is survived by her children, Margaret Apley, of Bad Axe, Arlene Kanaski and her husband, John, of Bad Axe, Donna Poppeck, of Filion, Madelyn Stacer and her husband, Dennis, of Harbor Beach, Leroy Elliott and his wife, Pat, of Bad Axe, Russell Ginther, of Bad Axe, Bruce Ginther, of Port Hope, and Connie Ginther, of Ubly; 27 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Jones, of Harbor Beach; sisters-in-law, Irma Pelton, of Farmington Hills, Eleanor Iseler, of Bad Axe, Dorothy Elliott, of Harbor Beach, and Bernice Crineic, of Taylor. Irene was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Elliott; sons-in-law, Dennis Poppeck and Allen Apley; sister, Mildred Steinhorst; and brothers, Ray Pelton and Wayne Pelton. Burial was in the Rock Falls Cemetery. Robert Jarvis Robert Harold Jarvis, 79, of Elkton and formerly of Drayton Plains, died Friday, October 22, 2004, at Covenant Harrison, Saginaw. He was born October 22, 1925 in Los Angeles, California, to the late Harold and Helen (Maglocsky) Jarvis. Bob served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as an air traffic controller at Selfridge Air Force Base. When he returned home, he was united in marriage to Dolores L. Seidel on June 22, 1946 in Detroit. She preceded him in death on July 6, 1984. He was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, assistant scoutmaster, explorer advisor, senior patrol guide and life scout. He was inducted into the Midwest Water Ski Hall of Fame and was a member of the Lake Oakland Ski Demons, Michigan Water Ski Association, and Michigan Bare-Footers Association. Bob was one of only two judges from Michigan for the National Water Ski tournaments. He was also a member of the Waterford Chippers and Carvers, Waterford Senior Citizens Center, and the Sand Point Carvers. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Linkville, and an avid hunter. Bob was a senior layout draftsman at General Motors Truck and Bus and retired in 1980 after over 24 years of service. On May 18, 1985, he was united in marriage to Beatrice (Kinkle) Madsen in Waterford and moved to Elkton a short time later. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; two daughters, Diane (Mary Costello) Holcomb, of Pontiac, and Karen (Clarence) Bergeron, of Clinton Township; three grandchildren, Joann (Mark) Kenney, of Flushing, Doug Lampson, of Waterford, and Tricia (Dan) Kletke, of St. Louis; 20 great- grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; brother, Allen (Vera) Jarvis; nieces, Lynn (Vince) Anderson, of Clinton Township, and Denise (Jerry) Maison, of Warren. McIntosh, 87, of Sterling Heights, died Friday, October 22, 2004, at Medi Lodge of Sterling Heights. She was born April 20, 1917 in Sheridan Township, daughter of the late James P. and Flora (McLellan) Sweeney. She married Dougal McIntosh January 26, 1946 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1983. Anna was a 1937 graduate of Cass City High School and worked on the family farm. She was a parishioner at St. Philip Neri of Detroit for 20 years, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabella. She was a parishioner at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Harper Woods, from 1968 to 1985. She was a parishioner at St. Ephrem Catholic Church, Sterling Heights, from 1985 to the present. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking, and pinochle. She is survived by one son, James McIntosh and his wife, Peggy, of Shelby Township; one daughter, Karlene McIntosh, of Sterling Heights; two grandchildren, James and Nancy; one great-grandson, Michael McIntosh. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dougal; daughter, Flora; son, Bernard; brothers, Terrance, Angus, Martin, John, Dolan, Neil, James B., Stephen; sisters, Margaret O'Hanley and Suzanna Kolar. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Beverly Melick Beverly A. Melick, 71, of Harbor Beach, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2004, in the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Harbor Beach on January 20, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Virginia (Jebraski) True. On December 16, 1950, Beverly and Lynn (Wimp) Melick were united in marriage in Harbor Beach. Lynn preceded her in death on September 16, 2001. Beverly was an employee of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital, retiring in 1998 after working for 41 years. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff of the long term care unit for the wonderful care and treatment given to Bev during the many years as co-worker and patient. She was a member of the United Conservation Club of Michigan, Harbor Beach Chapter, and a charter member of the Eastern Huron Ambulance Service of Harbor Beach as an EMT from 1979 to 1991. Beverly is survived by her children, Julie Hernandez, of Green Acres, Florida, William Melick, of Greenbush, and Todd Melick and his wife, Kathy, of Algonac; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Melick, and a brother, Marvin True. Alger Moeller Alger "Al" Moeller, 67, of Allegan, died Saturday, October 23, 2004, at his home. Mr. Moeller was born April 13, 1937 in Bad Axe, the son of George and Celia (Ignash) Moeller. Al graduated from Kinde North Huron High School, Class of 1956. He worked for many years as a machinist for the former Active Industries in Elkton. He left there to get his teaching degree at Ferris State University where he graduated in 1974. He taught at Delton Kellogg for over 11 years in their machine shop. In 1987, Al started teaching machine tool technology at the Allegan County Intermediate School District where he retired in 1999. He was a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for over 17 years. He loved the Lord, he enjoyed hunting and most sports, he was a member of the Michigan Distance Riders Club, and spent a great deal of time with his horses. He was united in marriage to Donna (Truemner) Kilgus on August 25, 1962 in Linkville. Surviving are his wife, Donna; three children, Ray and Dott Moeller, of Parchment, Melea Hogancamp, of Fremont, and Angela and Mike DeBolt, of Saline; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Celia Moeller, of Carson City; two brothers, Leon and Audry Moeller, of Nevada, Maurice and Cathy Moeller, of Indiana; three sisters, Sonja Wojno, of St. Clair Shores, Alice and Rich Yaroch, of Port Austin, and Joan Zwolinski, of Carson City; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Shope, 88, of Sebewaing, died Friday evening, October 22, 2004, at Providence Hospital in Southfield, following a brief illness. She was born July 31, 1916 in Brookfield Township, daughter of the late Henry and Marie (Illner) Roemer. She was united in marriage to Harlan Gettel on April 6, 1946 in Kilmanagh. He preceded her in death on November 5, 1964. She then married Elmer Shope on September 12, 1969. Herta had been a surgical nurse at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit for several years and later was a clinic nurse and director of nursing at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon for 17 years before retiring in 1973. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh, member of the L.W.M.L. and had taught Sunday School for 18 years. Surviving are her husband, Elmer, of Sebewaing; two daughters, Mary Lou Temple and her husband, John, of Franklin and Carol Ann Attwood and her husband, Jim, of Scottsdale, Arizona; three step-children, Eugene Shope and his wife, Carol, of Saginaw, Ellen Kay Lindsey and her husband, Leroy, of New Jersey, and Nancy Greer and her husband, Richard, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gertrude (Wendolin) Clabuesch, of Pigeon; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Herman, Paul, Fred, Erwin, Ernest, and Henry Roemer; one sister, Emma Pake. She was born March 25, 1939 in Bloomfield Township to Ervin and Irene (Schave) Collison. Marilyn was united in marriage to Lymon Smith on August 7, 1976 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She was a graduate of the Port Hope High School. Marilyn was employed at the former Port Austin Air Force Base as a cook and also worked for the Human Development Commission on Aging. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, gaming, gardening and crafts. She is survived by her husband, Lymon Smith, of Verona Township; one son, Corey Smith and his special friend, Lisa Cregeur, of Bad Axe; one daughter, Cheryl Gray, of Papillion, Nebraska; one brother, Donald Collison and his wife, Christine, of Sanford; her twin sister, Marlene Arnott, of Bay City; two grandchildren, Maurice and Isiah Martin, of Papillion, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews; seven step-children. Ludwig, 99, of Sebewaing, died Saturday, October 23, 2004, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro following a 2-year illness. She was born June 28, 1905 in Elmwood Township, daughter of the late George and Mary (Adams) Sontag. She was united in marriage to Frank Ludwig on December 29, 1927 in Gagetown. He preceded her in death on December 17, 1979. Meta was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking and gardening and especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters and one son, Dorothy Nast, of Unionville, Ralph Ludwig and his wife, Carolyn, of Mio, Mildred Roemer, of Sebewaing; 13 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six step-great- grandchildren; one step-great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Velta Stock, of Cass City; and many nieces and nephews. Zagata, 85, of Sebewaing, died early Sunday morning, October 24, 2004, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe following a brief illness. She was born September 23, 1919 in Sebewaing, daughter of the late Wesley J. and Erma (Schwalm) Heberly. She was united in marriage to Michael A. Zagata on November 24, 1945 in Sebewaing. Eloise was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing. She enjoyed music, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, Michael; one son, Michael W. Zagata and his wife, Lorene, of Sebewaing; three grandchildren, Kristin Bonham and her husband, Vince, of O'Fallon, Missouri, Andrew Zagata and his wife, Bobbie, of Sebewaing; Sarah Zagata of Nashville, Tennessee; three great-grandchildren, Robby Steff, Maggie and Vincent Bonham; several cousins; three sisters-in-law, Maude Zagata, of Boyne City, Ann Mangiapaine, of Southgate, and Helen Grupke, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Salsbury, 94, of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2004, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility under hospice care. He was born June 11, 1910 in Marlette, son of the late Edward and Ida Mae (Tingley) Salsbury. He was united in marriage to Vernita O'Rourke on February 22, 1941 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Palms. She preceded him in death on September 7, 1992. Mr. Salsbury was a former resident of Palms and moved to Bad Axe in 1950. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing euchre. He worked at Pigeon Lumber and farmed. He is survived by a daughter, Ellen Radomski and her husband, Joseph, of Owendale; three grandchildren, Jerry Kula, of Owendale, Brian Radomski and his wife, Jetta, of Bad Axe, and Zena Radomski, of Maine; one great- grandchild, Kelsey Kula, of Owendale; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Alfred, Allen, Ralph, Roland and infant Thomas; four sisters, Lorena Garries, Mable O'Rourke, Nellie O'Rourke and infant Eda Salsbury; one niece, Ida Mae Wilfong; and one nephew, Alfred O'Rourke. Wednesday, October 27, 2004 Cassmer "Cass" J. Grifka Cassmer "Cass" J. Grifka, 87, of Ubly, passed away Sunday evening, October 24, 2004, at Select Specialty Hospital in Saginaw after a short illness. Cass was born March 4, 1917 in Tyre to the late Edward and Catherine (Pollum) Grifka. He married Margaret (Alent) Peruski on May 21, 1966 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. Cass was a farmer and carpenter all his life. He is a Veteran of Foreign Wars, serving his country for five years in World War II. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and two Bronze Battle Stars. He was parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. He was a member of the Bad Axe Knights of Columbus Council No. 1546. He loved to go to Florida and St. Helen. He enjoyed playing cards, telling stories and jokes and visiting with family and friends. Cass is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Ubly; three sons, William Peruski and his wife, Jan, of Ubly, Robert Peruski and his wife, Connie, of Ubly, Thomas Peruski and his wife, Nancy, of Ubly; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, John "Jack" Grifka, of Warren; four sisters, Martha Leppek and her husband, Chester, of Parisville, Theresa Taylor, of Ubly, Alice Horetski, of Port Austin, Agnes Taylor, of Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Magdalene Grifka and Olive Grifka; one brother-in-law, Alex Particka; and many nieces and nephews. Sophie Kirsch Sophie Kirsch, 86, of Harbor Beach, passed away Monday, October 25, 2004, in the Huron Medical Care Facility near Bad Axe. Born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on July 11, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bernice (Wysocki) Radgowski. Sophie was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marines. On February 14, 1953, she was united in marriage to Eugene Kirsch. He preceded her in death on September 15, 2003. She was a member of the Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. Sophie is survived by three daughters, Mary Callender and her husband, Rick, of Harbor Beach, Lenora Schmidt and her husband, William, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Michelle Kirsch and her friend, John McCullough, of Bad Axe; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Radgowski, of Harbor Beach. She was preceded in death by a son, John Kirsch, on March 9, 1999, and two brothers, Raymond and Chester Radgowski. Henry "Hank" Marker Henry "Hank" Marker, 86, of Sebewaing, died Tuesday morning, October 26, 2004, at Tendercare of Cass City following a brief illness. He was united in marriage to Kathleen H. Wilder on October 17, 1936 in Sebewaing. He had been employed at the Weld Rite Company in Bay City for 33 years before retiring in 1983. He then had been employed at Ted Schmidt's in Unionville for several years. Henry was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Sebewaing American Legion Post No. 293. He served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen, of Sebewaing; one daughter, Fern Cosens and her husband, Gary, of Bay City; two grandchildren, Tracey Beth and Gerald Hunter, of Jerome, and Eric and Rachel Cosens, of Spencer, Indiana; six great-grandchildren, Angelo and Anthony Danducci, of Jerome, Natalie Faith, Ariel Beth, Alyssa Belle and Liberty Grace Cosens, of Spencer, Indiana; two brothers, Leo Marker, of Akron, and Victor and Mary Ellen Marker, of Kawkawlin; and several nieces and nephews. Stiebe Bernard R. Stiebe, 86, of Hume Township, died Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at the Pigeon Scenic Adult Foster Care Home. He was born May 10, 1918 to the late Robert and Alice (Mayhew) Stiebe. Bernard Stiebe was united in marriage to Melba Riffel. She preceded him in death on September 4, 1983. Mr. Stiebe was a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Kinde. He served with the United States Army during World War II. He worked at the level factory in Port Austin and farmed. He enjoyed doing wood crafts as a hobby. Bernard is survived by three sons, Robert Wayne Stiebe and his wife, Rose, of Filion, Ronald Alan Stiebe and his wife, Marie, of L'anse, David A. Stiebe and his wife, Linda, of Rochester; four grandchildren, Brian and his wife, Stacy, and Brad and Dennis Stiebe and Amy Glass; four great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Nathan Stiebe, Michaela and Meadow Glass; three step-grandchildren, Mat, Crystal and Stacy. He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Stiebe; one brother, Arthur Stiebe; five sisters, Frieda Wortmen, Thelma Pratt, Verna Stiebe, Ardith Geeck and Eileen Goebel. Karen Louise Whaley Karen Louise Whaley, 58, of Pigeon, passed away Tuesday morning, October 26, 2004, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born in Willard, Ohio on August 9, 1946, daughter of Maxwell and Dorothy M. (Nagel) Heabler. On November 12, 1966, she was united in marriage to Frederick N. Whaley in Detroit. He survives her. For more than 23 years, Karen worked at Scheurer Hospital in the credit, collections, and billing office, where she loved her job and she loved to work. She enjoyed crafting and garage sales, and especially spending many hours with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, decorating, old movies and "I Love Lucy." She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pigeon. In addition to her husband, Frederick N. Whaley, of Pigeon, she is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Roestel and her husband, Timothy, of Owendale; three grandchildren, Heather, Kenny, and Allison; a brother, Robert Heabler and his wife, Jane, of Romulus; a brother-in-law, Barry Fill, of Canton; her mother-in- law, Ann Whaley, of Pigeon; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Janis Fill. Goodman, 82, of Holt, was reunited with our Dad, Ed, in eternal life on Sunday, October 24, 2004. Earlier this year, she was preceded in death by Edward after 63 years of marriage. It was no coincidence that she longed to join him so soon, though we would have loved to have held on to her longer. She is survived by four loving children, Deborah Frank and her husband, Mike, of East Tawas, Diane Schmidt and her husband, Martin, of Freeland, Susan VanDeVusse and her husband, Dale, of Bad Axe, and Edward Goodman and his wife, Sara, of Mason. She was so proud of her eight grandchildren, David Schmidt, Barbara Monson and her husband, Pete, Robin Swartz and her husband, Keith, Kelli Frank, Rachel O'Mara and her husband, Tim, Allen VanDeVusse, Edward J. Goodman, and Michael Goodman; three great-grandchildren, Amanda, Caitlin, and Blake. Ruth is also survived by sisters, Twila, Laura; and a brother, Fred, all of Pennsylvania. Ruth inspired her children with her care giving and generosity often giving to others her time, talents, and love. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Grange. She was a girl scout leader and a volunteer with the hospital auxiliary at several hospitals. She enjoyed working as a sales associate for J.C. Penney in Lansing. She will be dearly missed but we celebrate her reunion with our father in God's kingdom. Bourdeau, 74, of Roseville, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at the Cape Fear Medical Center in North Carolina. Eva was born on June 12, 1930 in Tuscola County to the late Warren and Ruth Alvira (Westphall) Rumble. She married Joseph Bourdeau and he preceded her in death in September 2003. Eva was a person who enjoyed life. She was a caring person and friend to many. She would have the biggest smile when she held her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, the outdoors, collecting clowns and angels. She loved wearing jewelry and enjoyed dressing up like a clown to inspire others and have a great time. She was a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church in Roseville. She will always remain in our hearts and memories. We will miss her dearly. Gentner Mr. Joseph A. Gentner, 78, of Harbor Beach and formerly of Minden City, passed away, Thursday morning, October 28, 2004, at Courtney Manor of Bad Axe. Joe was born on September 22, 1926 in Ruth to the late August and Caroline (Hunsanger) Gentner. He married Joyce Dropiewski on June 5, 1948 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helena. Joe was a graduate of Ss. Peter and Paul Elementary School. He worked for the Ruth Farmers Elevator for a few years and Mallory Manufacturing for five years. He farmed in Minden City before retiring in 1987. He was a parishioner at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for 40 years. He was a parishioner at St. John Chrysostom in Forestville for the last 17 years. He enjoyed euchre, watching ships sail on the lake, and visiting with family and friends. Howard, 69, of Harbor Beach, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2004, at his home with hospice care and his family at his side. Born in Highland Park, on November 21, 1934, he was the son of the late Harold and Priscilla (Warner) Howard. Phillip was united in marriage to Grace Kelly on October 13, 1956 in Detroit. Phillip was a retired sales manager for an auto dealership in Livonia, retiring in 1990. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Air Force. Phillip enjoyed hunting and living on Lake Huron. Surviving are his wife, Grace, of Harbor Beach; three daughters, Patricia Marney and her husband, Dan, of Oxford, Susan Jacobelli and her husband, Ted, of Oxford, and Donna Howard, of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Timothy, Blaine, Dean, Lucas and Matthew; and two brothers, Paul and Donald. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin, and a daughter, Kathleen Howard. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 1, 2004, in the White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
