"Marge" Breakie, 87, a longtime resident of Jeddo, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2004, at the Mercy Hospital in Port Huron. She was born on November 5, 1916 in Bingham Township in Huron County, the daughter of the late Fred and Ethel (Dobson) LePla. Marge married John E. "Jack" Breakie on December 12, 1936 in Ubly. He preceded her in death on September 15, 1991. Marge was a member of the Jeddo United Methodist Church and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lexington Chapter #137. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Vincent and her husband, Gerald, of Bad Axe; a son, Gary Breakie and his wife, Judy, of Jeddo; many grandchildren; numerous great- grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Ilene Breakie, of Dover, Delaware; one sister, Florence Apley, of Bad Axe; and two sisters-in-law, Leda LePla and Gladys LePla. Marge was preceded in death by two sons, Frederick and John Breakie. A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2004, at the Jeddo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Catherine Hiner will officiate. There will be a luncheon at the church in honor of Marge immediately following the service. Interment services have been conducted next to her husband in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fort Gratiot. Arrangements were by the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Croswell. Memorials in memory of Marge may be made to the church. Gladys I. Dawkins Gladys I. Dawkins, 88, of Sand Point, died Saturday morning, July 24, 2004, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe. She was born August 22, 1915 in Sherbrooke, British Columbia, Canada to the late E. Stanley and Lillian (Nunn) Warrington. On November 10, 1937, she was united in marriage to Ferdinand Pringnitz in Royal Oak. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1964. To this union, a son was born, Glenn Pringnitz, who passed away in May 23, 1982. Gladys married Howard Dawkins on February 5, 1972 in Royal Oak. She was a homemaker most of her life and started coming to Sand Point's south shore in the mid 1950s. They moved to their cottage permanently in 1972, spending their winters in Bradenton, Florida. Howard preceded her in death on June 28, 2000. For the past year Gladys made her home at Country Gardens in Pigeon and had been at the Medical Care Facility only a few days. She enjoyed walking the shoreline, fishing and playing cards with friends. Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Cathy (Pringnitz) Wright and her husband, Donald, of Sand Point. A memorial service will be conducted at noon on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the William Sullivan & Son Funeral Home on 11 Mile in Royal Oak where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday. Day Eva M. Day, 94, of Pigeon and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2004, at her residence in Pigeon. She was born on February 18, 1910 in Huron City, daughter of the late George and Nellie (Wressell) Foster. She married Sherman E. Day on April 20, 1935 in Huron City. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1993. Mrs. Day and her husband farmed in Colfax Township for several years. She worked many years as a nurse's aid at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was a member of the Bad Axe First United Methodist Church, the Colfax Grange Hall, and the Elkton Senior Citizens. She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Carpenter and her husband, Larry, of Ubly; one son, Clayton Day and his wife, Nancy, of Bad Axe; two sisters, Ethel Shubel, of Port Austin and Gernith Mossner, of St. Clair Shores; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Beverly Shaina; two brothers, Russell Foster and John Foster; two sisters, Annie McDonald and Ellen McDonald; and one grandson. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 2004, at the Bad Axe First United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. William Wright, pastor. Monday, July 26, 2004 Leonard S. Kawecki Leonard S. Kawecki, 72, of Ubly, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City. He was born on March 11, 1932 in Detroit to the late Stanley and Mary Kawecki. On May 3, 1958, he married Arlene Gostiaux. She preceded him in death on August 19, 2002. They resided in Detroit until moving to a farm in Ubly in 1969. Leonard worked for many years at Chrysler Corporation and several years as a mechanic. Since retiring, he enjoyed playing the accordion and helping maintain his sons' semi trucks. He loved fixing things for people. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey and his wife, Brenda, of Ubly, and Mark and his wife, Maureen, of Cass City; five grandchildren, LeAnn, Jessica, Allie, Kristen and Shannon. He was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Kawecki. Cremation will take place by the Cremation Society of Michigan. A memorial dinner for Leonard will be decided at a later date. George M. Harder George "Panther" M. Harder, 72, of Bay Port, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, in Saginaw. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. Burial will be in New Bay Port Cemetery. Tuesday, July 27, 2004 – No obituaries reported Wednesday, July 28, 2004 John Hawk John Hawk, 73, of Sandusky, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Saint Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. He was born on March 28, 1931 in Swoyerville, Pennsylvania to the late John and Josephine (Rapachinski) Hawk. John married Catherine "Kitty" Lavin on April 6, 1953 in Swoyerville, Pennsylvania. She passed away on December 22, 1997. Mr. Hawk was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Port Sanilac, and was also an active member in the church choir. He worked for Express Freight Lines in Detroit as a truck driver and also was an area farmer. He is survived by four children, John Hawk and his wife, Maria, of Allegan, Katie Loss and her husband, Skip, of Ruth, Hilda Stefan and her husband, Mark, of Ubly, and Bernie Hawk, of Sandusky; 12 grandchildren; one great- grandson; two brothers, Dan Hawk and his wife, Doris, of North Branch, Joe Hawk and his wife, Gina, of Pennsylvania; four sisters, Maria Soifer, of New Jersey, Margaret Hawk, of Pennsylvania, Patsy Kilduff, of Florida, Barbara Hall and her husband, Bill, of Minnesota; a dear friend, Louise Krease, of Port Sanilac; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Hawk; and one sister, Josephine Ostrosky. Pearl Marie Gibson Pearl Marie Gibson, 80, of Port Austin, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at St. Joseph Mercy in Pontiac. She was born on April 6, 1924 in Windsor, Ontario, daughter of the late Edward and Emily (Ferrand) Lesperance. She married George Gibson on April 27, 1946 in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pontiac. Pearl moved from Pontiac to Port Austin in 1975. She worked at the Bad Axe Wal-Mart in the fabric department for eight years. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin and the U & I club in Port Austin. Pearl enjoyed spending time watching and listening to her beloved Detroit Tigers. Pearl is survived by her husband, George, of Port Austin; five children, Bruce Gibson and his wife, Sue, of Phoenix, Arizona, David Gibson and his wife, Patty, of Waterford, Beverly Wilfong and her husband, James, of Oxford, Rose Jarois and her husband, David, of Howell, and Barbara Wright and her husband, Steve, of McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey; nine grandchildren, Scott Gibson and his wife, Catherine, David Gibson and his wife, Sheila, Robert Gibson and his wife, April, Anthony Wilfong and his wife, Julie, Allen Wilfong, Jaki and Katie Jarois, and Matthew and Stacey Miracle; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley and Holden Gibson, Tessa Gibson, Shane Gibson, and Tyler Wilfong; brother, Marcel Lesperance and his wife, Helen; and sister, Marilyn Csizmadia and her husband, Joe. There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Edwin W. Thompson Edwin W. Thompson, 92, of Deckerville, went to his eternal reward on July 26, 2004. He was born February 25, 1912 in Delaware Township, the son of the late Floyd and Mary (Mahon) Thompson. He married Viola Kursinsky on August 14, 1943. She preceded him in death on November 24, 2003. Together they raised ten children who all survive them. Edwin spent most of his life as a dairy and crop farmer in Delaware Township. He also worked as a carpenter, and some will remember him from Nichol Lumber in Deckerville. In his semi-retirement years, he enjoyed working with his old sawmill. He is survived by seven sons, Michael, Daniel and his wife, Margaret, Steve and his wife, Sharon, Ed and his wife, Kim, all of Deckerville, Tim and his wife, Roseline, of Clarkston, Brian and his wife, Sharlene, of Cass City, and Ben (Michelle Hile), of Snover; three daughters, Mary Kathleen Haight and her husband, Gary, of Tucson, Arizona, Becky Stauffer and her husband, Gary, of Saline, and Anne Kinney and her husband, Tom, of Littleton, Colorado; 31 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Isabel Kursinsky, of Sandusky, and Mrs. Marjorie Maurer, of Ruth; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, George Thompson, in 1999; and one great-grandson, Kevin Patrick McKinney in 1991. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Edwin will be on Saturday, July 31, 2004, in the Deckerville Bible Church. Pastor Bill Willis will officiate. Smith, 90, of Minden City, passed away Tuesday morning, July 27, 2004, at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. Eleanor was born May 10, 1914 in Tyre to the late Albert and Anna (Pelot) Janowiak. She married Roman A. Smith on November 27, 1933 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1990. Eleanor attended the White Country Elementary School at the Hogs Back. She was employed at Clement Manufacturing in Minden City for 15 years. She farmed with her husband for 33 years. She was a parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville since 1934 and was a member of the Rosary Sodality. She loved to read and dance, and she enjoyed her flowers. Eleanor is survived by two daughters, Janice Blackwell and her husband, Gary, of Minden City, Elaine Holt and her husband, Robert, of Livonia; one son, Ronald Smith and his wife, Ruth, of Victoria, Texas; three grandchildren, Denise Boyce and her husband, Robert, of Richmond, Virginia, Douglas Blackwell and his wife, Kathy, of Clare, Paul Smith, of Victoria, Texas; seven great- grandchildren, Stephen, Stephanie, and Spencer Boyce, Kati, Stacy, Jonathon, and Jamie Blackwell; two sisters, Irene Kowalski, of Warren, Marie Oleksiak, of Ann Arbor; one brother, Herbert Janowiak and his wife, Bernadine, of Ubly; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Janowiak, of Ubly, Madeline Janowiak, of Plymouth. Eleanor was preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur "Red", Clements "Popeye", Eugene and Irvin "Al" Janowiak. Jaskowski, 84, of Ubly, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Tendercare in Cass City. She was born on June 6, 1920 in Parisville, daughter of the late Peter and Rosie (Czewski) Osantowski. She married Arthur Jaskowski on September 2, 1939 in St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1993. She was a member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly where she had worked for several years. She was a member of St. John's Christian Mothers Circle One. She enjoyed embroidery and cooking for family and friends. She is survived by one son, Theodore Jaskowski and his wife, Norma, of Ossineke; three brothers, Martin Osantoski, of Bad Axe, Archie Osantoski and his wife, Marie, of Bad Axe, Peter Osantoski and his wife, Ella Mae, of Warren; four sisters, Susie Kociba, of Bad Axe, Virginia Partaka, of Harbor Beach, Martha Staniski, of Redford, Rose Schumacher, of Flint; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Roman, Theodore, Robert, Fabian, Adam, and James Osantoski; one sister, Minnie Nowiski; and one granddaughter. Kuhl, 73, of Sebewaing, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, July 29, 2004, at his home. He was born January 27, 1931 in Fairhaven Township., son of the late Edward and Leah (Braun) Kuhl. He was united in marriage to Lorrine C. Nitz on July 30, 1955 in Sebewaing. Willard had been a farmer in the Sebewaing area for many years before retiring January 1, 1993. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Lorrine; one son, Dale Kuhl and his wife, Lorraine, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two daughters, Denise Dillon and her husband, Keith, of Montague, Deann Crawford and her husband, John, of Hanover; daughter-in-law, Vicki Kuhl, of Concord; son-in-law, Bill Thomas, of Unionville; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Alberta Cagle, of Taylor, Doris Quick, of Bay Port, Sylvia Wheeling and her husband, Douglas, of Auburn Hills; one brother, Lloyd Kuhl and his wife, Belva, of Sebewaing; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mallory Richard D. Mallory, 68, of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2004, at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. He was born on May 16, 1936 in Cass City, son of the late James and Eva Mallory. He was a carpenter in the Cass City area for many years. He served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed watching football as well as various other sports. Richard is survived by his longtime companion, Gail Hutchinson, of Bad Axe; one son, Randy Mallory, of Caro; one daughter, Tammy Formaz and her husband, Robert, of Caro; two step-sons, Steven Bouverette and his wife, Karen, of Elkton, David Hutchinson and his wife, Stephanie, of Cass City; three step-daughters, Lori Kerkau and her husband, John, of Bay City, Chris Hutchinson, of Bad Axe, Sandi Wright and her husband, Steven, of Cass City; two brothers, James Mallory and his wife, Beverly, of Kingston, Orville Mallory and his wife, Joanne, of Gagetown; one sister, Wilma McClellan, of Caro; several grandchildren; one great- grandchild; a dear friend who was like a mother to him, Anna Richardson, of Bad Axe. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Mallory and Dorothy McClellan. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2004, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe.
