Sunday, August 7, 2005 Julia Gornowicz Mrs. Julia Gornowicz, 91, of Austin Township, passed away on Friday evening, August 5, 2005, at the Sanilac County Medical Care Facility in Sandusky after a long illness. She was born on January 18, 1914 in Parisville to the late Frank and Mary (Kantok) Pionk. She married Henry Gornowicz on November 6, 1937 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1986. Julia farmed with her husband, Henry, on the family farm for 49 years. She was a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly and an honorary member of the St. John Christian Mothers Circle No. 2, St. Monica. She loved to play bingo and cards, especially euchre. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Julia is survived by her children, Barbara Keller and her husband, Carl, of Snover, Harold Gornowicz and his wife, Karen, of Snover, Leo Gornowicz, of Mobile, Alabama, Judith Bonin and her husband, Kenneth, of Clinton Township, Sandra Augustyniak and her husband, George, of Pinconning; 21 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Audrey Gornowicz, of Snover; two brothers, Roman Pionk and his wife Audrey, of Parisville, Cass Pionk and his wife, Dorothy, of Apache Junction, Arizona; one sister, Eleanor Partaka, of Palms. She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Virgil Gornowicz; one grandson, Paul Keller; one daughter-in-law, Susan Gornowicz; 10 brothers and sisters. A funeral mass will be 11 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2005, at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 7 p.m. tonight followed by a parish vigil service at 7:15 p.m. at the funeral home. Clarence John Kipfer Clarence John Kipfer, 94, of Bay Port, passed away early Friday, August 5, 2005, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born in Bay Port on April 4, 1911, son of the late John and Rachel Leah (Oesch) Kipfer. On February 13, 1937, he was united in marriage to Clara V. Naffien in Linkville. She preceded him in death on August 23, 1984. Mr. Kipfer farmed throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed the out-of-doors, especially fishing and hunting, as well as growing apples. His survivors include three daughters, Shirley Blome, of Pigeon, Donna Bechler and her husband, Clare, of Pigeon, and Betty Gretch and her husband, John, of Owendale; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Iva McAlpine, of Elkton. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald; and three sisters, Laura Maust, Flossie Steckley and Katie Shetler. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home of Pigeon and from 10 a.m. until the service time on Monday at the Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon. Memorials for Clarence Kipfer may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Gideons, or the donor's choice. Monday, August 8, 2005 Grace L. Sommers Grace L. Sommers, 95, of Harbor Beach, passed away Monday, August 8, 2005, in the Long Term Care Unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born on June 21, 1910 in Bloomfield Township near Port Hope, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Anna (Hebblewaite) Pleiness. Grace and Charles Sommers were united in marriage in 1930 in Port Hope and Charles preceded her in death on February 1, 1992. She was a member of the former Reformed Church of Christ in Port Hope and enjoyed her family, especially all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grace is survived by her children, Virginia Johnston and her husband, Eugene, of St. Helen, Leona Klein, of Harbor Beach, Ira Sommers and his wife, Nancy, of Port Huron, and Charles Sommers and his wife, Pat, of Coopersville; by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; a daughter-in-law, Mable Sommers and her friend, Dan, of Marne; and sisters-in-law, Eleanor Pleiness, of Harbor Beach, and Clara Woodke, of Port Hope. She was preceded in death by three daughters, Doris Sommers, Beverly Zick, and Joyce Thoms; son, Calvin Sommers; sons-in-law, Durrell Zick, Ken Thoms, Melvin Zick, and Eddie Klein; three sisters, Elsie Schmidt, Lillian Kibby and Alvena Witherspoon; and three brothers, Elmer, Oscar, and Leo Pleiness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach with the Rev. Mark Girardin, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Marquardt Cemetery in Port Hope. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Tuesday, August 9, 2005 – No obituaries reported Wednesday, August 10, 2005 Sandra Kay Edgerly Sandra Kay Edgerly, 55, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. She was a resident of Foley, Alabama. She was born to Wayne and Dora Lutterloh on November 13, 1949 at Kelsey Memorial Hospital in Lakeview. Sandy graduated from Lakeview High School in 1967 and attended Davenport Business College in Grand Rapids. Sandy worked as a departmental secretary at Michigan State University. She retired as a rural route carrier in 2000 from the Harbor Beach Post Office. Sandy most currently worked at Magnolia Springs Hideaway Campground in Foley, Alabama. After retirement, she and her husband, Craig, traveled with their camper throughout the United States and enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Craig Edgerly, of Foley, Alabama; two daughters, Kristina Schultz and her husband, Mark, of Plantation, Florida, Jamie Smith and her husband, Ryan, of Midland; grandchildren, Olivia, Garrett, and Ruby; mother, Dora Lutterloh, of Greenville; sister, Linda Root, of Cynthiana, Kentucky; brothers, Kevin Luttherloh, of Howard City, and Rodney Lutterloh, of Trufant. She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Lutterloh and her sister, Nancy. There will be a graveside service at Langston Cemetery in Langston at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2005. Thursday, August 11, 2005 – No obituaries reported Friday, August 12, 2005 Anne Ellis Anne M. Ellis, 91, of Bad Axe, passed away at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe on Wednesday, August 10, 2005. Mrs. Ellis was born June 19, 1914 in Gilford to the late John and Anna (Jusko) Baranic. She was united in marriage to Howard "Baldy" Ellis on April 7, 1934. Howard preceded her in death on June 15, 1967. Rest in peace, Annie. After 38 years, you and Howard are together again. Howard and Anne were long-time residents of Cass City. She was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City and was active in the church's altar society for many years. Anne was a graduate of Vassar High School. She worked as a cook for Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City Public Schools, and the Tuscola County Jail. She had a passion for cooking, baking, gardening and bird watching. Mrs. Ellis is survived by three sons, John Ellis and his wife, Sally, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Jim Ellis and his wife, Sharon, of Riverview, Florida, and Tom Ellis and his wife, Alice, of East Lansing; six grandchildren, Andrew Ellis and his wife, Brenda, of Mound, Minnesota, Jami Ritter, of Bad Axe, Kelli Robinson and her husband, Wayne, of Caro, Michael Ellis, of Rapid City, South Dakota, Steven Ellis and his wife, Carmin, of Kingston, and Terri Fitzgerald and her husband, Mike, of Fort Gratiot; 12 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Caitlin, Christopher, Cole, Corey, Hunter, Jessica, John Michael, Josh, Justin, Megan, and Sharon; and several nieces and nephews. Anne was preceded in death by eight brothers, Andy, Frank, George, Joe, John, Mike, Steve, and William Baranic; two sisters, Liz Nagy and Mary Seman. Mass of Christian burial will be at noon on Monday, August 15, 2005, at St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City. Fr. Stephen J. Fillion, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at the Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Visitation will take place from 1 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon on Monday at the church. A parish wake scripture will be offered at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be offered to the Huron County Medical Care Facility. Teddy M. Liwienski Teddy M. Liwienski, 84, of Caseville, died suddenly Thursday, August 10, 2005, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Teddy was born July 26, 1921 in Detroit to the late Martin and Ursula (Misiak) Liwienski and grew up in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II in the Pacific Theater. He married Genevieve Zaleski of Detroit on April 24, 1948 at St. Florian Catholic Church in Hamtramck. Genevieve preceded him in death on August 24, 1994. Teddy retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Detroit as district procurement manager. He was a general manager, treasurer, and on the Board of Directors for the Detroit Postal Employee Credit Union. He was a life member and past post commander of the AmVets #49 in Detroit, life member of the VFW Bruce Post in St. Clair Shores, member of the Caseville Eagles #3690, and St. Roch Catholic Church. A talented builder, carpenter and all-around handyman, Teddy began building his home in Caseville in the 1960's with his brother, Cass. He permanently moved to Caseville and into that home in 1994. Teddy was known for his wit and his ability to colorfully tell a story. Teddy is survived by his children, Michael and his wife, Cindy, of Warren, Karen Hettrick and her husband, Jack, of Richmond, and Jim and his wife, Debra, of Canton; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sophia Szajna and her husband, Edmund, of Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve; sister, Wanda Leiman; and brothers, Henry and Casimir "Cass." A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2005, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville, with Fr. Ken Yaroch presiding. Burial with military honors will be in St. Roch Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville, and from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Monday at the church.
