Sunday, July 10, 2005 Bruno Arsenault Bruno Arsenault, 86, of Bay Port, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2005, at his home while under hospice care. Bruno was born October 7, 1918 in Montreal, Quebec to the late J. Louis and Oriana (Magnan) Arsenault. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Germany and he also served 5 years in the Canadian Army. Upon his discharge from the service, he attended LaVal University in Quebec City. He married Marguerite Cochrane on December 21, 1945 at St. Patrick's Church in Sherbrooke, Quebec and the next year they moved to Detroit. He retired from Ford in 1980 and moved to Bay Port, having many years of tranquility and happiness here. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 8042 and St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. Bruno is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marguerite; children, Suzanne and her husband, Ronald Novack, of Novi, Marc and his wife, Li-Chu, of Livonia, Denise and her husband, Thomas Lisowski, of Harrison Township, Roger and his wife, Chris, of North Carolina, Maurice Richard "Rocky" and his wife, Gerrie, of Monroe, Thomas and his wife, Dina, of Dearborn, and David, of Bay Port; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul, of Livonia; and a sister, Margo Stricker, of Novi. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Ann. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. Burial will be at St. Francis Borgia Cemetery. Brother Knights will serve as pall-bearers. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville, as well as from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass on Tuesday at the church. Condolences may be shared online at www.cfcCaseville.com Tanner "Red" Cox Tanner "Red" Cox, 96, of Harper Woods, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2005, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. Red was born August 2, 1908 in Calhoun, Georgia, son of the late Fred and Pauline (Gray) Cox. In 1934, Red married Mabel Weber, of Huron County. Having many of the same interests, they spent many happy years together until her death in 1996. Red was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, contributing often to the group. At the age of 16, he came to Michigan and worked for the Chrysler Corporation for a short time and then started working for the Detroit Edison Company. He was employed as a department head in the maintenance department for most of his working career. Red had a curiosity for "how does this work?" And "how can I make this work again?" This led him into gaining five different licenses, electrician, boilermaker, heating and cooling, pipe fitting and in refrigeration, making him greatly appreciated by friends and family. He enjoyed showing and breeding prize hunting dogs. Mabel and Red spent time together in their cabin up north, hunting wild game, such as partridge, squirrel, fox, pheasant and deer. His family and friends were very important to this couple, spending time together and laughing, even the great and great- great nieces and nephews have happy memories to keep this couple alive. He is survived by two nephews, Ron Weber and his wife, Shirley, of Snover, and Gary Weber and his wife, Dori, of Port Austin; several great- and great-great nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law living in Georgia. Red was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2005, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home-Gage Chapel, Kinde. Officiating will be Douglas Bassett, Chaplin. Burial will be in the New River Cemetery, Port Austin. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Ruth Bouck McComb Ruth Katherine Bouck McComb, 84, of Caseville, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 8, 2005, at Courtney Manor Nursing Home in Bad Axe. Ruth was born May 20, 1921 in Detroit to the late Clyde and Clara McDougal. She married Orville Bouck in 1946. Together they lived in Detroit until moving to Caseville in 1975. Orville died in 1984. She later married Manly McComb of Caro on May 21, 1988 at the Caseville United Methodist Church. Ruth was a homemaker who loved to sew, crochet and read. She was a member of the Caseville Retirement Club, Pinnebog United Methodist Church and the Caseville Library Club. Ruth is survived by her husband, Manly; son, Thomas Bouck and his wife, Christine, of Southfield; and daughter, Bonnie Snyder, of Illinois; step-son Paul McComb of Arizona; grandchildren, Edward Bouck, of Arizona, and Joni and her husband, Fergel Amayo, of Georgia; step-granddaughters, Melissa and her husband, Eddie Matos, of Arizona, and April and her husband, Dan Dixon, of California; one step- great-grandson, Ian; and sisters-in-law, Shirley McComb and Harriet Collins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Bouck; and her brother, Capt. Herbert McDougal. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2005, at the Pinnebog United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Freeland officiating. Tanton, 89, of Minden City, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2005, in the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Detroit on March 30, 1916, she was the daughter of the late John and Veronica (Bozak) Matek. On October 17, 1936, Helen was united in marriage to Edwin Kirsch in Detroit. Edwin preceded her in death on January 21, 1962. On April 23, 1965, Helen married Howard Tanton in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1979. Helen was a member of the former United Church of Christ in Forestville. Surviving are her children, Dale Kirsch and his wife, Kathleen, of Minden City, James Kirsch and his wife, Judy, of Harrison Township, and Dianne Ritter and her husband, Gary, of Casco; nine grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; a sister, Donna Mancevich, of Gladwin. Helen was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Albright; and by four brothers, Victor, James, Bruno and Stanley. A private family visitation and service took place on Saturday, July 9, 2005, at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. Charles "Chuck" Russell Western Mr. Charles "Chuck" Russell Western, 75, of Ubly, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Chuck was born on May 15, 1930 in Bad Axe to the late William R. and Grace (Broomfield) Western. He married Gloria D. Koglin on December 10, 1955 at the Ubly Presbyterian Church. He was a 1949 graduate of Ubly High School. He served in the U.S. Army for two years in Germany. He worked as a chief custodian and bus driver at Ubly Community Schools for 35 years, retiring on January 1, 1993. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 317 and F & AM of Cass City. He loved woodworking, hunting and fishing. Chuck, loving husband, father and grandfather is survived by his wife, Gloria D. Western, of Ubly; two sons, Larry R. Western, of Sandusky, Kenneth C. Western and his wife, Julie, of Croswell; his grandchildren, Tiffini L. Western and Nicholas R. Western, both of East Pointe, Brendan M. Western, Marin M. Western and Quinlan S. Western, all of Croswell; one brother, Kenneth L. Western, of Ubly; one sister, Beatrice Soberay and her husband, Fred, of Bad Axe; one uncle, Clarence Broomfield and his wife, Vera, of Bad Axe; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Neveda Allen and her husband, Cecil, Florence Schrader and her husband, Vern, and June Western; one sister-in-law, Lola Western. Memorials maybe made to the Ubly First Presbyterian Church or to the Sleeper Public Library. Monday, July 11, 2005 Mildred L. Currence Mildred L. Currence, 80, of Port Hope, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2005, at the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Monterville, West Virginia on October 18, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lettie (Heavener) Height. On June 16, 1940, Mildred and Guy Currence were united in marriage in Monterey, Virginia. Mildred was a K-Mart employee retiring in 1987 after working for over 20 years. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed working with her flowers and she was an active member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Harbor Beach. Surviving are her husband of over 65 years, Guy Currence, of Port Hope; and her children, Steve Currence and his wife, Barbara, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Jerry Currence and his wife, Patricia, of Deckerville, Ronald Currence and his wife, Diane, of New Baltimore, Keith Currence and his wife, Eava, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Crystall Susan and her husband, Richard, of Royal Oak, and Daniel Currence, of Thailand; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Benjamin Height and his wife, Tayna, of Oakland, Maryland, and Denver Height and his wife, Emma, of Mt. Storm, West Virginia; and sister, Edna Mull and her husband, Clyde, of Lexington, Virginia. Memorials may be given to the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church Building Fund. Wilmer J. Wolschlager Wilmer J. Wolschlager, 86, a life-long Sheridan Township farmer, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 9, 2005, following a short illness. He was born November 25, 1918 in Sheridan Township, son of the late Frank and Agnes (Depcinski) Wolschlager. Mr. Wolschlager and Miss Marian Keyes were united in marriage on July 22, 1961 in Alpena. Mrs. Wolschlager preceded her husband in death on March 22, 2004. Wilmer was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe where he served as an usher. He attended Becking Rural Country School and was a member of the Bishop Babcock General Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 1546 Bad Axe. As a diary and crop farmer, he was active in 4-H and worked in a saw mill; was a Detroit Tigers fan, played softball, enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and blueberry picking. He also enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. He is survived by seven sons, Wilmer Wolschlager, Jr. of Bad Axe, Kevin Wolschlager, of Bad Axe, Curtis Wolschlager and his wife, Jamie, of Elkton, Anthony Wolschlager and his wife, Tammy, of Owendale, Duane Wolschlager and his wife, Mary, of Filion, Larry Wolschlager and his wife, Martina, of Pigeon, and Terry Wolschlager, of Filion, and his fiancee, Susan Kozlowski, of Port Austin; three daughters, Katheryn Wolschlager, of Bad Axe, Angeline Lampela and her husband, Douglas, of Bad Axe, and Melissa McDonald and her husband, Paul, of Dewitt; 17 grandchildren, Nicole, Brittany, Brian, Jesse, Michael, Kayla, Andriana, Brandon, Justin, Ashley, Ryan, Kyle, Cory, Derrick, Cody, Amber, and Caiden; one great-grandson, Riley; five brothers, Raymond Wolschlager, of Bad Axe, Stanley Wolschlager and his wife, Josephine, of Bad Axe, Melvin Wolschlager and his wife, Lorraine, of Bad Axe, Kenneth Wolschlager and his wife, Audrey, of Bad Axe, and Elign Wolschlager, of Lowell; one sister, Evelyn Ochoa and her husband, Henney, of Detroit; three brothers-in-law, Ken Keyes and his wife, Linda, of Clio, Arnold Keyes and his wife, Rose, of Lansing, and Roger Keyes and his wife, Terrie, of Alpena; one sister-in- law, Shirley Goodrich and her husband, Howard, of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. Wilmer was preceded in death by two brothers, Archie and Joseph Wolschlager; one sister, Ernestia Hessling; one sister-in-law, Mary Jane Wolschlager; and one brother-in-law, Ralph Volmering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Fr. Robert Shine will preside. Cremation will follow at Sunset Valley Crematory. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Tuesday, July 12, 2005 Sr. Clara T. Puwalowski Sr. Clara T. Puwalowski, 97, beloved daughter of the Heart of Mary went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 1, 2005, at the Marian Center in Holyoke, Massachusetts. She was born in Detroit on February 8, 1908, daughter of Andrew and Mary Anne (Kuchnowski) Puwalowski. When Clara was six years old, her mother Mary Anne passed on. Clara was educated in parochial schools in Detroit and she later studied professional sewing and tailoring. Early in life, she worked on the family farm in Parisville. Later, she was employed at the Parke Davis Laboratories in Detroit. Clara joined the Daughters of the Heart of Mary in Detroit in 1946, made her First Vows in Buffalo, New York in 1949, and Perpetual Vows in New York in 1964. She served in DHM missions in Detroit, New York, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Buffalo, New York. Her final missions were served at Holyoke, Massachusetts, where she had been since 1996. Her occupations included, sacristan, food services, laundry, housekeeping, sewing, and chauffeuring. Clara was a talented seamstress specializing in drapery, altar cloths, tabernacle veils and priest's vestments. She was extremely devoted to her work and a perfectionist in whatever she did. Survivors include nieces, nephews, and the Daughters of the Heart of Mary at the Marian Center. She was preceded in death by a sister when she was a child in Detroit, Ceclia Puwalowski; and two brothers, Frank Puwalowski, of Parisville, and Theodore Puwalowski, of Port Austin. Wake services were conducted on Tuesday, July 5, 2005, for Clara T. Puwalowski at the Marian Center, 1365 Northhampton Street, Holyoke, Massachusetts. A Liturgy of Christian burial was celebrated at the Marian Center Chapel at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2005. Burial took place at St. Jerome Cemetery, Holyoke, Massachusetts, where several nieces and nephews attended the services. Wednesday, July 13, 2005 Stanley W. Zolnierczak Mr. Stanley W. Zolnierczak, 86, of Caseville, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2005, at Courtney Manor of Bad Axe. He was born on October 16, 1918 in Detroit to the late Peter and Teofila (Borawska) Zolnierczak. He never married. Stanley was a graduate of North Eastern High School in Detroit. He worked for Sawicki and Sons Advertising in Detroit for 25 years before retiring in 1986. He attended St. Stanislaus Kostka, St. Thomas, and Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic churches in the Detroit area. He enjoyed gardening, reading and playing cards. Stanley is survived by one sister, Jane "Jean" Koscielski and her husband, Eugene, of Caseville; one sister-in-law, Merle Zakrzewski, of Sterling Heights; two nieces, Barbara Zolnierczak, of Sterling Heights, Gloria Becker and her husband, Michael, of Redmond, Washington; one nephew, Eugene Church and his wife, Deborah Worden, of North Street. He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Zolnierczak. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2005, at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. The Rev. Thursday, July 14, 2005 Frederick F. Morin Frederick F. Morin, 75, of Bad Axe and formerly of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Courtney Manor, Bad Axe. He was born November 23, 1929 in Pigeon, son of the late Fred and Mabel (Brodrick) Morin. Mr. Morin and Lola Brown were united in marriage on March 22, 1949 at the Salem United Methodist Church, Pigeon. Fred and Lola enjoyed more than 56 years together. Frederick was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe. He was a milk hauler in Huron County for 45 years, retiring in January 1990 and he was a member of the Michigan Milk Producers Association. He had many hobbies including farming, bowling, snowmobiling, playing cards and belonging to the six handed club. He also enjoyed visiting with family and meeting friends for coffee at the golden arch. Surviving are his wife, Lola, of Bad Axe; two daughters, Diane McCoy and her husband, Jack, of Ortonville, Kathy Morin, of Greeley, Colorado; five grandchildren, Ryan Gerhardt, of Orlando, Florida, Alicia Morin-Heiden and her husband, Tim, of Elkton, Amanda Gerhardt-Green and her husband, Joe, of East Lansing, Darnell Morin, of Bad Axe, Kyle Gutierrez, of LaFayette, Colorado; two great-grandchildren, Alaina Heiden and Maison Green; step-grandchildren, Jane, Karl, and Sarah; two daughters-in-law, Denise Morin, of Bay City, and Sheila Morin, of Rapson; one son-in-law, Mark Gutierrez, of Colorado; two sisters, Edith Lado, of Caro, and Vicky Turner and her husband, Glen, of Pigeon; two sisters-in-law, Doris Brown and Marion Reibling and her husband, Dwight; and several nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Dennis Morin; one daughter, Valerie Gutierrez; two brothers, Jack and Stanley Morin; three sisters, Beatrice Zelinski, Mildred Christner and Betty Farver. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe. Officiating will be the Rev. William Wright, pastor. Burial will be in the Colfax Township Cemetery, Bad Axe. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the church. Memorials may be offered to the Family Discretionary Fund, American Heart Association or the First United Methodist Church. Beverly S. Priemer Beverly S. Priemer, 54, of Bad Axe, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw. She was born February 10, 1949 in Harbor Beach, daughter of the late Cornielius and Helen Terwilliger. Beverly enjoyed visiting with family and friends, bird watching and wildlife in general. She is survived by a son, Walter Priemer, of Bad Axe, and his special friend, Tracy; her fiancee, James Surmacz, of Wyandotte; grandchild, Helena Starr; and one great-grandchild, Danielle Joy. She was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Terwilliger. Cremation has taken place. There will not be any visitation or services. Arrangements are being handled by the MacAlpine Funeral Home of Bad Axe. Friday, July 15, 2005 Marvin E. Lanning Marvin E. Lanning, 73, of Pigeon, passed away Wednesday evening, July 13, 2005, at Covenant Cooper, Saginaw, following complications from a ruptured brain aneurysm he suffered one month ago. He was born April 27, 1932 in Lebanon, Oklahoma to the late Marvin and Myrtle (Armstrong) Lanning and moved to California with his parents at the age of 12. After high school, he was inducted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served in Korea. When he returned, he was stationed at the Port Austin Air Base. He met Evelyn Miller during that time and they were married October 24, 1953. They moved to California after his discharge. Marvin became an installer and repairman for AT&T for 27 years and then for Lucent Technologies for eight years, retiring in 1986. In 1988, they decided to move back to Huron County, settling in Pigeon. He was a member of Pigeon VFW Post No. 2236, Hubbard Winsor Lodge No. 420 F&AM, Scottish Rite & Consistory of Pasadena, California and the Huron Shrine Club of Bad Axe donating many hours to the Shriner's Children's Hospital. Surviving are his wife of almost 52 years, Evelyn; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Symons, of Pigeon, and Betty Lashbrook, of Sun City, Florida; two first cousins, Clinton Lanning, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Vincent Ferriols, of Seattle, Washington. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Elkton. The Rev. James Nihzer, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Sand Point, will officiate with burial in Verona Township Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be directed to Shriner's Children's Hospital.
