Sunday, December 11, 2005 Mary Gougeon Mary Elizabeth Gougeon, 90, of Mount Dora, Florida, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2005. Mary was born on May 7, 1915 in Fairfield, Maine to the late Bernard J. and Annie C. (MacDonald) Cain. She married Earl A. Gougeon on September 17, 1936 in Wyanotte. Mary was a member of the Mission Band, a group that provided priests' vestments to mission priests. She also was a member of the St. Elizabeth's Alter Society, giving a life of faith and service to the Catholic Church. In 1984, they moved to Florida where she was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Mary is survived by her husband, Earl A. Gougeon, 93, of Mount Dora, Florida; two sons, Bernard A. Gougeon and his wife, Joan, of Wyandotte, and Michael E. Gougeon and his wife, Kay, of Bellingham, Washington; two daughters, Cecilia A. Swanger, of Trenton, and Virginia E. Gougeon, of Mount Dora, Florida; one sister, Sr. Bernita Cain, of St. Paul, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren, including James Gougeon and his wife, Dorine, of Harbor Beach; 12 great-grandchildren, including Steve, Carrie and Douglas Gougeon; and two great-great grandchildren, Jordan and Nicholas. A mass of resurrection will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Mount Dora, Florida at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2005. Robert Matthew Johns Robert Matthew Johns, 42, of Croswell and formerly of Port Austin, died Thursday, December 8, 2005. Robert was born March 2, 1963 in Bad Axe, the son of Shirley (Upthegrove) Krajewski and Harry Johns. He was an avid hunter and sportsman, and past member of the Port Austin Fire Department. Robert owned and operated Shorty's Dock-Side Subs in Caseville and Main Street Subs in Bad Axe. He is survived by his fiancee, Amy Castillo, of Croswell; his daughter, Jessica Johns, of Flint; his step- daughter, Angela Lackey-Jenkins, of Flint; his mother, Shirley Krajewski, of Sterling Heights; his father, Harry (Betsy) Johns, of Cold Springs, Texas; his sister, Kimberlee Johns, of Sterling Heights; three brothers, Tony Johns (Joanie Higgason), of Tucson, Arizona, Jayson (Kory) Strachan, of Park City, Utah, and Christopher (Rachel) Johns, of Cold Springs, Texas; his grandfather, Harry Johns Sr., of Cockeysville, Maryland; three nieces and nephews, Elliott Johns, Holly Higgason and Jack Strachan; three uncles, John (Sharon) Upthegrove, David (Shirley) Upthegrove and Robert (Linda) Upthegrove, all of Port Austin; one aunt, Diana Marx, of Cockeysville, Maryland; and 11 cousins. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Gilbert P. McFadden Gilbert P. McFadden "G.P. Ski", 76, of Caseville, died Friday, December 9, 2005, at the Saginaw V.A. Medical Center of cancer. Gilbert was born May 3, 1929 to the late Eugene and Anna (Stoia) McFadden in Detroit. He grew up in Madison Heights and after high school, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. He was employed by General Electric in Southgate as a switchgear specialist for 27 years, retiring in 1982. On November 12, 1981, he married Jean Duffield and together they moved to Caseville the next year, into the house he had built in the 1970s. He enjoyed off-road motorcycles, snowmobiles and fishing. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Joan Wilson, of Warren, and Michael McFadden, of Gotesville; step-children, Joseph (Karen) Duffield, of Lansing, Kenneth Duffield, of Caseville, and Beth Hacker, of Onoway; grandson, Joey Wilson; great-grandchildren, Chase and Jersey Wilson and step-grandchildren, Arlene and Kayle Duffield, and Kaiah and Alex Hacker. Stockoski, 60, of Port Austin, died Thursday, December 8, 2005, in Saginaw. He was born in Dwight Township on May 14, 1945, the son of Irvin and Dorothy (Koroleski) Stockoski. Ronald Stockoski was a graduate of Port Austin Public Schools and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Frank Horetski Post 499 of the American Legion in Port Austin. He enjoyed playing the accordion and loved music. He is survived by his daughter, June Bilof, of Clinton Township; his father, Irvin Stockoski, of Port Austin; and one grandson, Duncan. Also surviving are his aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin with Fr. Robert Pare officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be a vigil service at the funeral home on Monday at 7 p.m. Stephen Zagorski A gentle, loving man has left this life. Stephen J. Zagorski, age 53, of Sand Point, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 9, 2005, from complications following shoulder surgery. He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife of 33 years, Judy (Bouck) Zagorski. He was the proud father of Levi and his wife, Kristen, (Roth) of Carrollton, and Travis and his fiancee, Kate Lisowski, of Colorado. Steve was born January 5, 1952 in Bad Axe, the son of Gloria Frank and the late Frank Zagorski, and brother of Ned and Barb Zagorski, Rob and Bridget Frank and Rick Frank, and stepson to the late R. Roy Frank. Steve also was a son and brother to Judy's family, Virgil and Verneta Bouck, Marge Hall, Joyce Miller, Dave and Sue Bouck, and Dan and Carla Bouck. Steve was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Laker High School in 1971. Steve was a production technician for Dow AgroScience for the past four years, and he and Judy were proud managers of Beadle Bay Marina and Campground this past season. Steve loved being outdoors, feeding wildlife, yardwork, spoiling his nieces and nephews (he was "Uncle Steve" to many people), eating Verneta's pie and wearing comfy old clothes. Steve's friendly smile, generous spirit, giant bear hugs, sense of humor and caring ways will be missed by the many people who loved him. Quick, 84, of Sebewaing, died Saturday, December 10, 2005, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon following a brief illness. She was born October 26, 1921 in Kilmanagh, daughter of the late Otto and Alma (Thede) Kundinger. She was united in marriage to Glen C. Quick on November 2, 1946 in Kilmanagh. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1981. During World War II, she helped with the war effort by working as a "Rosie, the Riveter" in Detroit. Aldine was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid, and the Wednesday morning Bible class. She was an avid quilter, followed the Detroit Tigers, and loved to bake. Surviving are two daughters, one son and their spouses, Lorene (Michael) Zagata, of Sebewaing, Dianne (John) Schulz, of Unionville, and Larry (Deborah) Quick, of Gagetown; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Brian (Cristy) Schulz, Daniel (Anna) Schulz, Jeffrey (Jodi) Schulz, Brenda Schulz, Kristin (Vincent) Bonham, Andrew (Bobbie) Zagata and Sarah Zagata, Jennifer Czewski, and Kelsey Quick; eight great-grandchildren, Carissa, Zachary, Drew, Cooper, and Sophia Schulz, Maggie, Vinnie Bonham, and Robby Steff; one sister, Beatrice Elenbaum, of Unionville; two sisters-in-law, Helen Krauss, of Sebewaing, and Doris Quick, of Bay Port; several nieces and nephews. Tuesday, December 13, 2005 Lorraine Andrich Lorraine Andrich, 84, of Port Austin, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2005, at her home. She was born April 19, 1921 in Port Austin to the late Aldrich and Margaret (Parks) Molascon. On November 25, 1939, she was united in marriage to Jacob Andrich. Mrs. Andrich grew up in Ubly and graduated from Ubly High School. She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her grandkids and was an excellent seamstress. She is survived by her husband, Jacob, of 66 years; two sons, Richard Andrich and his wife, Brenda, of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Lyle Andrich, of Grandview, Texas; three daughters, Sheryl Haynes and her husband, Gene, of Satsuma, Alabama, Linda McIlveene, of Madison Heights, and Tracy Price and her husband, Michael, of Bentonville, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Karen, Chris, Shaun, Jenny, Summer, and Jamie; four great-grandchildren, Randy, Rhys, Collin, and Sarah; and several nieces and nephews. Donald James Bailey Donald James Bailey, 72, of Colfax Township, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 11, 2005. He was born May 12, 1933 in Bad Axe to the late Orville and Osie (McAlpine) Bailey. He was united in marriage on January 12, 1963 to Sharon Briesmiester. Mr. Bailey was employed as a maintenance man at Colfax Cemetery. He also worked for the B.N.G. Pickle Plant and the Ford Garage of Bad Axe. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, National Rifle Association, and former member of the Conservation Club of Port Austin. He enjoyed doing outside activities, fishing, hunting, overhauling things, spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends, and he loved to make people laugh. Thuemmel, 68, died at home on Monday, December 12, 2005, with his family at his side. He was born May 4, 1937 in Bad Axe to the late Robert and Verneta (Voelker) Thuemmel. He was united in marriage on February 10, 1962 to Martha Keillor. He was a 1955 graduate of Port Austin High School. In 1956, he then attended Michigan State University for a course on Dairy. He farmed all of his life on Thuemmel Road in Port Austin Township. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Bad Axe and of the Port Austin Lions Club. He was a board member of the Port Austin State Bank and was the Michigan Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer in 1972. He is survived by his wife, Martha, of Port Austin; three sons, Mark Thuemmel and his wife, Vicki, of Sterling Heights, Troy Thuemmel and his wife, Laurie, of Harbor Beach, Christopher Thuemmel of Nashville, Tennessee; one daughter, Valerie Thuemmel, of Port Austin; two brothers, Leonard Thuemmel and his wife, Ethel, of Romeo, Daniel Thuemmel and his wife, Vivian, of Port Austin; one sister, Nancy Schubring and her husband, Al, of Mesa, Arizona; four grandchildren, Zachary, Stephanie, Connor, and Logan; and several nieces and nephews. Wednesday, December 14, 2005 Wanda Fortushniak Wanda Fortushniak, 83, of Port Sanilac, died Monday evening, December 12, 2005, in the loving care of her family at the home of her daughter, Pam, in Bad Axe. She was born June 22, 1922 in Hamtramck, daughter of the late Anthony and Antoinnette (Pupka) Bielkie. She and Walter Fortushniak were married October 10, 1942 in Utica. He died September 4, 1992. Mrs. Fortushniak was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the church choir, and the Altar Society. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post No. 8872, Port Sanilac. Surviving are three sons, James (Leanne), of Port Huron Township, Wally (Janie), of Port Sanilac, and Daniel (Jean), of Brighton; four daughters, Patricia (Dennis) Schommer, of Port Sanilac, Charlotte (Dan) Touchette, of Belmont, Kathy (Kurt) Fauser, of Keller, Texas, and Pamely (Todd) Gingrich, of Bad Axe; two sisters, Genevieve Staskiewicz, of Sandusky, and Celia Nowak, of Grosse Point Woods; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Edward, and Zigmond Bielkie; and sister, Helen Bielkie. Gosselin, 58, of Oak Beach and New Baltimore, died Monday morning, December 12, 2005, at his home while under hospice care. He was born April 7, 1947 in Detroit to the late David and Marion (Clos) Gosselin. They had a cottage at Oak Beach where Joe spent a great deal of time while growing up. After high school, Joe hired on with Chrysler Corporation. A short time later, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam during 1967 and 1968. He returned to Chrysler and worked at several of their plants in the Detroit area and was currently at the Detroit Axle Plant in Quality Assurance. On May 22, 1971, he was united in marriage to Sandy McIlhargie at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog. They made their home near New Baltimore. They continued coming to the Oak Beach cottage with their family as often as possible. Joe was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog, St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Baltimore, member and past chief steward of Local 412. He enjoyed bowling and golf and loved to travel. Surviving are his wife, Sandy; three children, Jean Gosselin and her friend, Mark Duvall, of Algonac, Joe Gosselin and Jack Gosselin, both of Clinton Township; three grandchildren, Savannah, Marina and Dylan; four sisters, Louise (Dick) McIlhargie, of Caseville, Vernetta (Dale) King, Marion (Jerry) Yax, of Lake Township, and Rita (Sam) Tibbits, of Kinde. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association and V.F.W. Brian was an employee of the Cooperative Elevator in Ruth for the past 25 years and enjoyed playing cards and darts with his friends. Holland Yvonne J. Holland, 70, of Sebewaing, died Wednesday evening, December 14, 2005, at her home following a two-and-a-half year illness. She was born July 24, 1935 in Jamestown, New York, daughter of the late Robert and Ann (Lofgren) Rice. She graduated in 1956 as a registered nurse from the Miller Filmore Nursing School in Buffalo, New York. Yvonne moved to San Diego, California, where she met her husband, Duane A. Holland, while serving in the U.S. Navy as a registered nurse at Balboa Naval Hospital. They were united in marriage on March 12, 1960 in San Diego, California, They moved to Michigan in 1970. She had been employed at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon for over 20 years before retiring in 1993. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh, enjoyed traveling, and loved to spend time with her family and friends. Surviving are her husband, Duane; four daughters and their spouses, Ilene (Mark) Chiotti, of Bay Port, Suzanne (Dean) Jones, of Bloomington, Indiana, Diane Holland, of Barstow, California, Dawn (Brad) Pagratis, of Lansing; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Amanda, Adam, Rebecca, Timothy, Thomas, and Erika; one sister, Sandy (Rudy) Carlson, Jamestown, New York; and several nieces and nephews.
