Brown, 58, of Port Hope, passed away on Thursday evening, September 8, 2005, in the long-term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Harbor Beach on March 18, 1947, he was the son of Arlene (Weiss) Brown and the late Lee Brown. On October 15, 1966, Oren and Maureen Guitar were united in marriage. Oren was an employee of Dow AgroSciences in Harbor Beach, a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope, and, being an avid golfer, a member of the Verona Hills Golf Club. Oren also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Maureen Brown, of Port Hope; his mother, Arlene Brown, of Port Hope; and his children, Karen Murphy and her husband, Joe, of Kingston, and Matt Brown and his wife, Holly, of Traverse City. He also is survived by four brothers, Ed Brown, of Port Hope, Everett Brown and his wife, Ann, of Harbor Beach, Keith Brown and his wife, Janet, of Harbor Beach, and Greg Brown and his wife, Suzie, of Auburn; four sisters, Marilyn Labor and her husband, Robert, of Bad Axe, Audrey Zinger and her husband, Frank, of Port Hope, Ardith Blacker and her husband, Dan, of Port Hope, and Bev Brown, of Port Hope; and several nieces and nephews. Oren was preceded in death by his sister, Karen. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2005, at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach and from noon until the time of the services on Monday at the church. A scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, Port Hope Athletics Association, or the Harbor Beach Community Hospital's long-term care unit. Naida Carolyn Doerr Naida Carolyn Doerr, 76, of Caseville and formerly of Cass City, passed away September 3, 2005, after an extended illness. She will be missed by many family and friends. A native Michigander, she was born on March 14, 1929 in Traverse City, the daughter of Frank and Mildred (Boone) Spoor. Naida graduated from Traverse City High School. On February 17, 1947, she married her beloved husband, Edward H. Doerr. She worked for Bell Telephone, Walbro, and raised four children. Naida was a talented artist and her work will continue to be enjoyed all over Michigan and the United States. In 1974, her works traveled the state as part of the Michigan Arts Council's Art Train, which showcased Michigan artists at stops around the state. Her showings included the Saginaw Museum of Art, local art shows, and she illustrated "The Birds of Florida's Big Bend," published by the Florida Department of Education. She was a member of the VFW, Eagles, and a former member of the Fist Presbyterian Church in Cass City. Naida was a loving wife, a dedicated mother, a special grandma, a fun sister and aunt, and a good friend to many — she will be missed by all. Naida is survived by her husband, Edward; her children, Randy Scott (Sheila), Deborah Jean (Cas) Pasieczny, Patricia Michelle (William) Coleman, and Edward James; her grandchildren, Cas Pasieczny, Marni (Janathan Carnahan) Doerr, Derek Doerr, and Nikky (Bo) Manausa; her sisters, Winona (Al) Farrington, Kay (Glen) Cohoon, and Sharon (Jim) Frantz; step-sister, Judy (Jim) Pryor; sister-in-law, Sylvia Spoor; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her step-father, Bruce Thompson; step-brother, Greg Thompson; and a brother, Duane Spoor. A memorial luncheon will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2005, at the Eagles, 7071 E. Park, in Caseville. Memorials are requested to Heartland Hospice of the Eagles. Thompson, 23, of Harbor Beach, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2005, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Born in Pontiac on April 14, 1982, she was the daughter of Lynn and Carol (Humbert) Thompson. Cara was a student at the Huron Learning Center in Bad Axe and the Transition House. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach. She is survived by her parents, Lynn and Carol Thompson, of Harbor Beach; a brother, Nicolas Thompson, of South Lyon; and a sister, Lana Thompson and her fiance, Curt Messing, of Mt. Pleasant. She also is survived by her grandparents, Keith and Inez Humbert, of Gladwin, and Ray and Corinne Thompson of Lakeland, Florida; and by aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach with the Rev. Mark Girardin, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in the Immanuel Cemetery in Tawas City. John Gyomory John Gyomory, 50, of Lapeer and formerly of Kingston, died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 8, 2005, in Kingston Township. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2005, at the Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston, with Pastor Ken Sandefur, of Kingston Wesleyan Church, officiating. Monday, September 12, 2005 Wanda Lee (Pell) Brade Our Lord and Savior called the soul of Wanda Lee (Pell) Brade, 74, home to himself on Saturday, September 10, 2005, after a long battle with cancer. She was born January 23, 1931 to the late George and Catherine (Gray) Pell. Wanda married Harold Brade on February 18, 1950. Harold preceded his wife in death on January 29, 2000. She is survived by two sons, Jerald Brade and his wife, Betty, of Bad Axe, Gene Brade and his wife, Jenny, of Bad Axe; eight grandchildren, Christy Means and her husband, Jason, of Sterling Heights, Loretta Brade, of Sterling Heights, Tim Brade and his special friend, Jessica Prill, of Bad Axe, Cathy Blackstock and her husband, Dale, of Bad Axe, Scott Brade and his wife, Shannon, of Indiana, Kimberely Brade, of Texas, Andrea Cleland and her husband, Paul, of Harbor Beach, and Sheri Horton and her fiancee, Kurt Sabin, of Davidson; five great-grandchildren and all of her brothers and a sister in Christ from St. Peter Lutheran Church in Kinde. Neumayer Barbara G. Neumayer, 76, of Deckerville, died Saturday, September 10, 2005, at Port Huron Hospital. She was born November 8, 1928 in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of the late Bernard and Clara (Monczynski) Stack. She married Francis Neumayer on May 26, 1951 in Allenton. He preceded her in death on Janurary 25, 1985. Mrs. Neumayer enjoyed playing Euchre, Skip-Bo, and Pinochle. She was active in several churches during the years. She is survived by five sons, Mathew and Penny Neumayer, of Kinde, Francis Jr. and Mary Neumayer, of Ingadine, Terry and Susan Neumayer, of Cassopolis, Timothy, of Sandusky, and Douglas and Kimberly Neumayer, of Snover; two daughters, Ms. Sue Rosander, of Delmar, New York, and Pamela and Jay Chambers, of Gaylord; three foster children, Bobby Amiel, of Port Huron, David Cherry, and Richard and Roetta Cherry, all of East Pointe; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Daniel Stack of Allenton; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Kyle; one sister, Loretta Coenan; and one foster child, Dawn Amiel. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Barbara G. Ralph Lewis Retherford Mr. Ralph Lewis Retherford, 52, of Caro and formerly of Cass City, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 11, 2005. He was born January 3, 1953 in Cass City, the son of the late Philip and Betty (Fort) Retherford. On September 21, 1993, he married Rebecca Conat in Cass City. Ralph had owned Forts Store in Cass City, a 7-Eleven in Saginaw, was a supporter of Cass City athletics, a former member and past president of the Cass City Lions, a founder and chairperson of Ducks Unlimited in Cass City, an avid hunter and outdoorsman, and a loving husband. He is survived by his wife, Becky; brother, Edward Retherford (Barbara) of Alpena; special mom and dad, Jackie and Don Conat; sisters-in-law, Merry (Mike) Gebauer, Anna (Al) Garza, Shannon (Terry) Czekai, and Barb Muir; cousins, Curt (Ruth) Strickland and Cindy Strickland; special care givers, Adrienne, Alex, and Chelsie; and many other loving family and friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at Colwood United Brethren in Christ Church, 1840 Colwood Road, Caro, with Pastor Rocky Spears officiating. Tuesday, September 13, 2005 Wilfred Edward Maurer Wilfred Edward Maurer, 70, of Mt. Morris, died Monday, September 12, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center-Harrison in Saginaw. Wilfred was born on August 2, 1935 in Ubly, the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Minnie (Puvalowski) Maurer. After graduating from Ubly High School in 1953, he moved to the Flint area and began working for General Motors. He worked as a supervisor at Ternstedt on Coldwater Road for many years prior to his retirement in 1991. Wilfred would marry his high school sweetheart, Betty Dekoski, on June 2, 1956 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris, the Knights of Columbus, Holy Family Council No. 4285, 4th Degree member of the Leon J. Satkowiak Assembly No. 0524 and its Color Guard. A few of his life's passions included fishing, deer hunting, and he had a particular flair for dancing, especially to his favorite polka music. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Betty, of Mt. Morris; three sons, Gary Maurer, of Mt. Morris, Doug Maurer, of Mt. Wednesday, September 14, 2005 Valerie Elaine Ussery Valerie Elaine Ussery, 33, of La Porte, Indiana, and formerly of Cass City, died suddenly Monday, September 12, 2005, in La Porte, Indiana. She was born on March 9, 1972 in her grandmother's home in Cass City to Larry and Linda (Goodall) Ussery. Valerie never married. Valerie graduated from Cass City High School. She worked for Thumb Meat Market in Caro, IGA in Cass City, and later, Farmer Jacks in Bad Axe. Valerie currently worked as a supervisor for a manufacturing plant in La Porte, Indiana. She was a former member of Cass City First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed needlework, knitting, crocheting, and was an avid reader. Valerie is survived by her father, Larry D. Ussery, of Kingsford Heights, Indiana.; grandmother, Jesse Goodall, of Cass City; uncles, Gordon (Janice) Goodall, of Sanford, Grant (Renee) Goodall, of Port Huron; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda E. Goodall Ussery, who died December 6, 1997; brother, Larry David Ussery, who died February 22, 1994; and grandparents, Gordon Alfred Goodall, and Otis and Carolyn Ussery. Thursday, September 15, 2005 Evelyn Elizabeth Wrubel Mrs. Evelyn Elizabeth Wrubel, 82, of Harrison Township, passed away Tuesday morning, September 13, 2005, at Mount Clemens General Hospital. She was born June 28, 1923 in Austin Township to the late Samuel and Margaret (Doerr) Patterson. She married Stanley S. Wrubel on September 14, 1940 in Bad Axe. Evelyn is survived by her husband, Stanley Wrubel, of Harrison Township; her children, LaVerne Wrubel, of Conway, South Carolina, Carroll Rogers and her husband, Donald, of Roseville, Eric Wrubel and his wife, Lupe, of Harker Heights, Texas, Nancy Pizzuti and her husband, Vince, of Essex, Ontario, and Richard Wrubel, of Florida; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Hoagg; and three brothers, Amos, Jack and Clifford Patterson. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon on Friday, September 16, 2005, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will preside. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the Mass begins at noon on Friday at the church.
