Bukoski, 80, of Ubly, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005, at the Marlette Community Hospital under hospice care. She was born on September 23, 1924 in Parisville to the late Edward and Anna (Kolar) Gliniecki. She married Melvin A. Bukoski on November 6, 1948 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on February 16, 1997. Mildred attended St. Mary Catholic School in Parisville and was a graduate of Ubly High School. She also attended the Cleary Business School for one year. She worked for a railroad in Detroit and for Dibble Department Store for 35 years as a bookkeeper. She was a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. She was past president of St. John Christian Mothers as well as a member of Circle No. 2, St. Monica for many years. She loved to travel with Parrott Tours and Horizon Travel Club. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, quilting, and making baked goods such as cookies, pies, and cakes. Mildred is survived by one daughter, Ann Ypma and her husband, Richard, of Ubly; three grandchildren, Brian Ypma and his wife, Jennifer, of Capac, Lori Gayeski and her husband, Larry, of Warren, and Bradley Ypma, of Grand Rapids; one great-granddaughter, Hope Gayeski; one sister, Adeline Jezewski, of Memphis; six sisters-in-law, Margaret Bukoski, of Harbor Beach, Jocva Bukoski, of Ubly, Eleanore Paszkowski, of Warren, Marie Wasierski, of Ubly, Lillian Wojtas, of Warren, Betty Ward and her husband, George, of Millington; two brothers-in-law, Sylvester Bukoski, and Larry Bukoski and his wife, Marlene, both of Ubly. She was preceded in death by one infant son, Vincent; two brothers, Chester Gliniecki and his wife, Helen, August Gliniecki and his wife, Lillian; seven brothers-in-law, Edward Jezewski, Chester Paszkowski, Sylvester Wasierski, Robert Wojtas, John T. Bukoski and his wife, Bertha, Raymond Bukoski and his wife Beatrice, Harry Bukoski; one sister-in-law, Bernice Bukoski. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2005, at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. There will be a Christian Mothers Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Donald Reackhof Donald H. Reackhof, 81, of Port Austin and Richmond, passed away Friday, July 15, 2005, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. He was born in Richmond on August 15, 1923 to the late Edward F. and Elizabeth (Engel) Reackhof. Don Reackhof and Jean Swartz were united in marriage on June 7, 1946 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was raised in Richmond and attended Richmond Public Schools. Don was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Port Austin. He was an active member of the Richmond Community School Board for many years. He also worked as manager for the A & P and Kroger grocery stores. He was a salesman for Ely and Walker and a manufacturer representative. Don is survived by his mother-in-law, Stella Swartz; one son, Randy Reackhof and his wife, Suzzana, of Ann Arbor; one daughter, Sharon Reackhof, of Sausalito, California; and two grandchildren, Victoria and Remington Reackhof. Cremation has already taken place. There will not be a memorial service as requested by Mr. Reackhof. Arrangements were handled by the MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe. Memorials may be offered to the Port Austin Fireworks Display Fund. Margaret Schenk Margaret Schenk, 85, of Bad Axe, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at Courtney Manor Nursing Home in Bad Axe. She was born December 22, 1919 to the late Charles and Mame (Oldenburg) Britt. Margaret Britt and Earl Schenk were united in marriage in 1946. Earl preceded her in death in 1985. She enjoyed the game of baseball and liked playing cards and dominoes. Margaret is survived by one daughter, Janet Hacker and her husband, David A., of Elkton; three sons, Robert Andersen, of Livonia, Michael Schenk and his wife, Sarah, of Tucson, Arizona, and Randell Schenk, of Ubly; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by one son, Gary Andersen. A private funeral service will be conducted at Grant Township Cemetery with the Rev. Monday, July 18, 2005 Arthur Jay Des Jardins Arthur Jay Des Jardins, 79, of Caseville, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw of cancer. Art was born April 18, 1926 in Filion to the late Samuel and Ruth (Horton) Des Jardins. He grew up in Filion and graduated from Kinde High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Navy during World War II, and stayed in the Navy for 20 years, serving for many years at Grosse Ile. He was discharged as a Chief Petty Officer. Art married Alma Storebeck of Kinde on December 11, 1948 in Tom's River, New Jersey. After retiring from the Navy, he moved to the Flint/Fenton area and worked there for 20 years as a State Farm Insurance agent, retiring in 1985. His wife, Alma, died on October 30, 1984 and he then married Patricia Neu on December 14, 1985 at St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville. Together they retired to Caseville that same year. Art was a lifetime member of the VFW #4289 in Winter Haven, Florida, where he helped convert the current hall from an old airplane hanger. He also used his skills as a woodworker to craft flag and window cases that remain an integral part of that club's history to this day. He was a member of the Caseville Eagles #3690 and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Art is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Barbara Des Jardins (Richard Lutowski), of Texas, Paul, of Flint, Thomas (Kathy), of California, Gary (Karen), of Midland, and Kenneth, of Illinois; step children, Missie Wellman, of White Lake, and James (Bridgit) Delaney, of Grand Cayman B.W.I.; 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; sisters, Milly Cox, of Montana, and Frances Daron, of Idaho; and a brother, Ron Des Jardins, of Montana. Art was preceded in death by his wife, Alma; siblings, Robert, Kenneth, Beatrice, Eugene and Alma Gottschalk; and a granddaughter, Marcia Lutowski. A funeral scripture service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville, with the Rev. Kenneth Yaroch presiding. Tuesday, July 19, 2005 Jean Wallace Simons Jean Wallace Simons, 88, resident of Bad Axe, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005, at the Courtney Manor Nursing Home. Cremation has taken place. Wednesday, July 20, 2005 John Nugent John Warren Nugent, 80, of Weidman and formerly of Bad Axe and Ubly, passed away unexpectedly following an apparent heart attack on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mount Pleasant. He was born on March 14, 1925 in Bad Axe, son of the late Warren and Ida (Pettinger) Nugent. He attended Wadsworth Country School and graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1942. He married Dorothy Stirrett on September 2, 1944 in the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. Last September, they celebrated 60 years of marriage with their children at Lake Charlevoix. John was well known for his strong work ethic. He started hauling milk for his father at 14, eventually owning his own routes. He owned and operated Nugent Farm Sales and Service until the business was destroyed by fire in 1955. Over the years, he has worked for Nestles in Ubly, Labadie Oldsmobile in Bay City, and Auto Appraisal Service. He also owned Nugent Auto Sales and Service and continued his passion for repairing and selling cars right up until the afternoon before his death. He was a life member of the Ubly/Cass City Masonic Lodge, a former member of the Ubly Community Schools Board of Education, the Ubly Village Council, the Mount Pleasant Moose Club, the Beal City Business Association, and the Mount Pleasant First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Nugent, of Weidman; two sons, Jerry Nugent and his wife, Diane, of Davison, and Warren Nugent and his wife, Mary Jane, of Bath; one daughter, Elrae Herp and her husband, Jerry, of Bad Axe; one son-in-law, Arn Glaza, of Ubly; 12 grandchildren, Mark Nugent and his wife, Christie, Jennifer VunCannon and her husband, Steve, Melinda Whitman and her husband, Brent, Scott Glaza, Chad Glaza and his wife, Cristy, Amy Russell and her husband, David, Betsy Butzbaugh and her husband, Ben, Lori Flippin and her husband, Shannon, Rachel Herp, Jeralyn Bliss and her husband, Nick, and Kellie Nugent; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elinore Marquardt, Mary Knight, and Fay Hanselman; one brother-in-law, Ray Osminski. Burkhard Heather A. Burkhard, 45, of Bad Axe, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at her home following a short illness. She was born on May 21, 1960 in Laurium, daughter of Robert and Carole (Wolfe) Hobkirk. She married Thomas Burkhard on October 6, 1984 in the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. She was the managing director of hospital services at the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. She had formerly worked at the Huron County Health Department in Bad Axe and as clinic supervisor at Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City. Heather was a member of the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was on the Christian Education Committee, as well as playing in the Bell Choir. She was active in the Huron County Senior Fair. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Burkhard, of Bad Axe; one daughter, Lauren Burkhard, of Bad Axe; one son, Ryan Burkhard, of Bad Axe; mother, Carole Hobkirk, of Bad Axe; maternal grandmother, Annabel Zurbrick, of Pinnebog; mother-in-law, Angeline Burkhard, of Bad Axe; one brother, Robert Hobkirk and his wife, Stacie, of Bad Axe; two sisters, Leslie Rounds and her husband, Mike, of Mount Pleasant, Denise Lesnik and her husband, Jeff, of Elgin, Illinois; two nephews, Michael Rounds, of Mount Pleasant, Wil Hobkirk, of Bad Axe; two nieces, Courtney Rounds and Carly Rounds, of Mount Pleasant. Memorials may be offered to the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. Roy Czajkowski Roy Czajkowski, 66, of Caseville, died suddenly Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Roy was born April 13, 1939 in Detroit to the late John and Anna Marie (Kozlowicz) Czajkowski and grew up in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Army for six years. While stationed in Germany, he met and married Gertrud M. Jung on July 24, 1959 in Lanstuhl. They returned to the United States and lived in the Detroit area. Roy retired from Chrysler (Mound Road Engine) in 1994 after 30 years, and then moved to Caseville. Roy enjoyed driving a school bus for the past 10 years for the Elkton-Pigeon- Bay Port Lakers School District. He retired from school bus driving on July 1, 2005. He was a member of the Caseville American Legion #0543. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was referred to as "Opa" by nearly everyone. Roy is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gertrud; daughters, Mary Jane Walczak and her husband, Dale, of Lapeer, and Susanne Siver and her husband, Steve, of Elkton; and grandchildren, Justin, Matthew, Bryan, and Caitlin. Hesberger, 88, of Port Austin, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Northwood Meadows in Cass City. She was born on April 9, 1917 in Detroit, daughter of the late Herman and Adrine (Nuebaur) Zube. Leona is survived by her children, Dean Hesberger, of Port Austin, Susan Ocana and her husband, Pablo, of Las Palmas, Spain, and Traudi Kemitz and her husband, Harry, of Rochester; grandchildren, David and Carla Ocana, Christian Kemitz and his wife, Julie, and Karl Kemitz and his wife, Diane; and great-grandchildren, Catherine Kemitz, Caroline Kemitz, Nicole Kemitz, and Isabelle Kemitz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph, in 1986, and by her son, Eric. Leona and her husband were summer residents of Port Austin since 1949 and then moved to Port Austin permanently from Bloomfield in 1983. James Richard Morse James Richard Morse, 77, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005, at the TMC Hospice in Tucson, Arizona. He was born May 8, 1928, along with a twin brother, in Rahway, New Jersey to Robert E. and Wanda (Baur) Morse. Jim earned his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy at the University of Michigan in 1950 and his master of science degree in hospital pharmacy at the University of Arizona in 1975. He went on to educate several new generations of pharmacists during his 26 years of teaching at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, where he was honored as Educator of the Year in 1986. In retirement, he continued to contribute to his field producing a number of monographs on compounding while volunteering for the USP. Leaving behind many relations, friends and colleagues, he will be fondly missed by his wife of 25 years, Jocelyn; his twin, Bob and his wife, Noreen; daughter, Corinne Morse Beeman and her husband, David; sister, Eleanor Todd; long-time buddy, Frank Kelly and his wife, Pauline, of Bay Port; forever school friend, Fran Winiecke, of Kearny, Arizona. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Wanda, well-known piano and voice teacher; his sisters, Corinne Baur Morse, Joanne Gault and Phyllis Bolton. This very gifted man will long be remembered by all who knew him for his kindness, his humor and quick wit, and for his many contributions to society. Robert Quinn Robert Daniel Quinn, 79, lifelong Caseville resident, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw of injuries received in a car accident on July 11, 2005. Bob was born September 24, 1925 in Caseville to the late Daniel and Mary (Corbett) Quinn. He graduated from Pigeon High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked as a trooper for the Michigan State Police and then as a deputy for the Huron County Sheriff's Office until 1963. He married Mary Kathleen Cherry in 1954 in Carlton. In 1963, he began working as a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Caseville, retiring in 1987. Bob was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville American Legion, and the Caseville Historical Society. He was a former member of the Caseville Eagles, Caseville Optomists, Caseville Kiwanis, and the Huron County Jury Commission. He enjoyed boating and diving, participating in community and family activities, and watching local and family sports. Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary K.; sons, Daniel and his wife, Rhonda, of Caseville, Mark and his wife, Karen, of Naperville, Illinois, and Timothy, of Caseville; grandchildren, Katherine, Shawn, Kyle, Lauren, Matthew, Ryan, Kristen and Kevin; and a sister, Delores Stefan, of Las Vegas, Nevada. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Theresa "Teri"; brother, James; and sister, Doris Marshall. Volz Iva M. Volz, 83, of Sebewaing, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Northwood Meadows in Cass City following a 10-month illness. She was born November 15, 1921 in Caro, daughter of the late John and Ethel (Moore) Brock. She was united in marriage to Arthur D. Volz in June 1946 in Sebewaing. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1979. Iva had been employed at the A.S.C. office in Caro and Michigan Sugar Company in Sebewaing and later owned and operated with her husband, Volz Brick and Tile Company in Sebewaing. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing and the Owendale-Gagetown senior citizens group. She was an avid reader, loved history, needlework and painting. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Gary Volz and his wife, Bonnie, Kathy Kramer and her husband, Ronald, and Terry Volz and his wife, Cindy, all of Sebewaing; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Brock and his wife, Elsie, of Frankenmuth; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant sister; and one brother, Bernard Brock. The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2005, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Friday, July 22, 2005 Max Douglas Nicholl Max Douglas Nicholl, 83, a lifelong Caseville resident, died suddenly Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Max was born in Caseville on September 8, 1921 to the late E.K. and Myrtle E. (Parks) Nicholl. He graduated from Bay Port High School in 1939. In 1942 Max and his brother W. Robert took over their father's business, Caseville Lumber, which their father had begun in 1932. Max entered the U.S. Army Air Force in 1943 serving in World War II. In 1958 Max and his brother purchased and operated for many years the Pigeon Lumber Company. Max married Doris C. Smith of Detroit on October 28, 1972 at Our Lady of Lorretto Catholic Church in Redford. Max was a member of the Caseville Eagles #3690, Caseville American Legion Jean Post #543, Knights of Columbus #8042, and St. Roch Catholic Church where he had served as an usher. Having lived in Caseville his whole life, he was frequently consulted on matters historical for the area and had been involved with the Caseville Historical Society. He enjoyed watching baseball, and when he was younger, he had played on the Caseville Village team. In Max's death, Caseville has lost a longstanding and active pillar of the community and an important link to its past. Max is survived by his wife, Doris; son Joseph and his wife, Meg, of Caseville; grandchildren, Joseph II and Dani, of Caseville; sister, Bernadine Winkel and her husband, Ray, of Otsego; sister-in-law, Virginia Nicholl, of Caseville; and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, W. Robert Nicholl. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville, with Fr. Ken Yaroch presiding. Schave, 90, of Port Hope, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2005, in Courtney Manor Nursing Center, Bad Axe, under hospice care. Born in Port Hope on May 15, 1915, he was the son of the late Charles and Stella (Hoffman) Schave. On March 8, 1951, Earl and Hilmuth Krueger were united in marriage in Port Hope. Earl was a retired Rubicon Township farmer and was the sexton of the Lakeview and Forest Bay Cemeteries for many years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Surviving are his wife, Hilmuth Schave, of Port Hope; and his children, Joann Cove and husband, Robert, of Bad Axe, Bryce Schave, of Port Hope, Carol Schave-Wicker and her husband, John, of Commerce Township, and Charlene Sharrard and her husband, Martin, of Port Huron; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Binkle, of Port Hope, and Alma Estange, of Warren. Earl was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Jodie Marie Emerick; brother, Lawrence Schave; and three sisters, Marguerite Ender, Florence Young, and Mildred Pochert. Carl D. Richards Carl D. Richards, 65, lifelong resident of Bad Axe, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005, at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, Saginaw. He was born April 7, 1940 in Bad Axe to the late Russell and Margaret (Duerr) Richards. He was owner of Huron Collision in Bad Axe for several years. Carl also was employed as a security guard at Port Huron and Orlando, Florida hospitals. He was a member of the Bad Axe Historical Society and the Thumb Sportsman's Club of Bad Axe. He served in the United States Army, and was a member of the Army Reserve in Bad Axe. He enjoyed pheasant and deer hunting, and also visiting with his family and friends. Carl is survived by one son, Douglas Richards and his wife, Celine, of Filion; one daughter, Lesa Meyer and her husband, Mark, of Caseville; six grandchildren, Hailey and Taylor Richards, of Filion, and Christopher, Laura, Emily and Erin Engler, of Caseville; one sister, Dora Shaw, of Elkton; a special friend, Marion Holz; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Blanche Brasseur, Irene Niehaus, Doris Marshall, and Marjorie Payne; and one brother, Don Richards. Cremation has taken place. Graveside military services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2005, at Colfax Township Cemetery. The Rev. William Wright, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Bad Axe, will officiate. MacAlpine Funeral Home of Bad Axe is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Family Discretionary Fund. Cristina Louise Swartzendruber Our Little Angel was born on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, and passed away on Friday, July 8, 2005. Cristina is survived by her parents, Dave and Adriana Swartzendruber, of Woodinville, Washington; grandparents, Harold and Louise Swartzendruber, of Bay Port, and Dr. Mauricio Camacho, of Rocky River, Ohio; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Sunset Hills Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 1215 145th P1 SE, Bellevue, Washington.
