Baslock, 75, of Bad Axe, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2005, at his home following an extended illness. He was born on June 28, 1929 in Bad Axe, son of the late Fred and Nettie (Cox) Baslock. He married Rose Marie Mandich on December 5, 1959 in Caseville. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2236 in Pigeon. He worked for 23 years at Michigan Lumber in Elkton before he owned and operated the former Baslock Sunoco service station in Bad Axe. He enjoyed sharpening various tools and equipment, gardening, and especially being with his granddaughter and family. He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Baslock, of Bad Axe; two sons, Kenneth J. Baslock and his wife, Karrie, of Bad Axe, and David Baslock, of Bad Axe; and one granddaughter, Laura Baslock, of Bad Axe. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Burial will be in the Colfax Township Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Pigeon VFW. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. on Monday or 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be offered to the Pigeon VFW. Irene Mae Steinman Irene Mae Steinman, 79, of Port Austin, died on Thursday, June 16, 2005. Irene was born on November 28, 1925 in Port Austin, the daughter of Charles and Sarah Swackhamer. Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her marriage to Robert Donald Steinman was blessed by Fr. Rabideau. Irene enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren, and working crossword puzzles. She was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert; her children, Robert Steinman and his wife, Diana, of East Lansing, Janis Horetski and her husband, Daniel, of Tucson, Arizona, William Steinman and his wife, Linda, of Haslett, David Steinman and his wife, Lisa, of Ferndale, Brian Steinman, of Howell, and Brenda Jimpkoski and her husband, Dale, of Port Austin; grandchildren, Leigh Ryan and her husband, Garrett, Angela Valenzuela and her husband, Jeff, Dan Horetski, Matthew Horetski, Jason Horetski, Michael Horetski, Jeffrey Steinman and his wife, Katie, Ryan Steinman, Stacy Steinman, Kelly Steinman, Katie Jimpkoski, Kyle Jimpkoski, and David Jimpkoski; great-grandchildren, Tori Valenzuela, Tyler Valenzuela, and Hunter Horetski; sister, Leone Parniske, of Port Huron; and special friends, Josephine Goretski, Lorraine Rice, and Eleanor Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Hildegarde and Janice; and brothers, Adam, Raymond, Charles, and Earl. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin with interment following immediately in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 9 p.m. on Monday at Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde and from 10 a.m. until Mass begins on Tuesday at the church. Monday, June 20, 2005 – No obituaries reported Tuesday, June 21, 2005 Vera Atkinson Vera Atkinson, 79, of Dwight Township, died Sunday, June 19, 2005, at her home. She was born on February 1, 1926 in Flint, daughter of the late Bert and Grace (White) Goodrich. She and Robert Atkinson were married on August 25, 1945. He preceded her in death on June 7, 1971. Vera retired from the United States Tank Automotive Command in Warren after 32 years of work and moved from Warren to the Thumb area in 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Leanna Atkinson, of Kinde; nine grandchildren, David Atkinson, Danielle Duffano, Robert Kerby, Tamara Bondy, James Bondy, Kelly Bondy, Michael Kerby, Shannon Downey, and Shaun Downey; and 15 great-grandchildren. Vera was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara Downey and Terry Atkinson. Cremation will take place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. A memorial service will take place at a later date with burial in Oak View Cemetery in Royal Oak. Arrangements are being handled by the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Leon D. Beardslee Leon D. Beardslee, 92, of Caseville and formerly of Waterford, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2005. Leon was an avid sportsman and enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing. He was the husband of Amelia and father of Pamela Roth and her husband, Dick, of Caseville and the late Lee and his wife, Linda, of Clarkston; step-father of John Cuttle and his wife, Michele, of Troy and Timothy Cuttle and his wife, Doreen, of Washington Township; grandpa of Penny Sawyer and her husband, Steve, Sheri Schulte and her husband, Ken, Mary Graf and her husband, Bryon, Kristen Zagorski and her husband, Levi, Stacey, Kimberly, Shannon, and Kelly Cuttle; great-grandpa of Thomas, Amanda, Lindsay, Shelby and Tanner. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marguerite. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at Lewis E. Wint and Son Trust, 100 Funeral Home, Clarkston. Wednesday, June 22, 2005 Gloria S. Hartwick Gloria S. Hartwick, 80, of Cass City, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005, in Harbor Beach Community Hospital Long Term Care Unit. She was born October 11, 1924 at home in Grant Township to Frederick and Leila (Gimmill) Milligan. She married Laurence E. Hartwick on July 27, 1945 in Elkton. He died August 8, 1987. Gloria retired from Harris Hampshire Insurance Agency after many years. She also had worked at Anrod Screen and with her husband on the farm. Gloria was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cass City and a former member of the Cass City BPW. She was an avid reader, loved gardening and following the Tigers. Gloria is survived by her sons, Richard and his fiancee, Laurie Roggenbuck, of Harbor Beach, and Larry Hartwick and his wife, Jeanne, of Kinde; grandchildren, Edward Hartwick, of Okemos, Andrew and his wife, Emily, of Mt. Pleasant, Elizabeth Hartwick, of Rochester Hills, Benjamin Hartwick, of Rochester Hills, and Michael Hartwick, of Rochester Hills; sisters, Mary Doerr, of Minnesota, and Harriett Hartwick and her husband, Harry, of Deford; and many nieces and nephews. Hollister, 53, of Hume Township, passed away Monday, June 20, 2005, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born September 10, 1951 in Bad Axe to Dorothy (Roberts) and the late Walter Duggan. Diana Duggan and John Hollister were united in marriage on December 9, 1978. After graduation from Bad Axe High School in 1969, Diana attended cosmetology school in Bay City. For the past 20 years she has helped manage Duggan's Campground and Tip of the Thumb Canoe Rental in Port Austin. She enjoyed shopping, poodles, and life in general. Diana is survived by her husband of 27 years, John Hollister, of Hume Township; mother, Dorothy Duggan, of Hume Township; four brothers, Dennis Duggan and his wife, Maureen, William "Snapper" Duggan and his wife, Joann, and Fred Duggan, all of Hume Township, and Thomas Duggan and his wife, Ellen, of New Baltimore; and 11 nieces and nephews. Thursday, June 23, 2005 Oliver Eugene Goetze Oliver Eugene Goetze, 88, of Minden City died Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at Covenant Harrison Hospital in Saginaw. He was born on January 26, 1917 in Minden City, son of the late Arthur Robert and Bertha M. (Graichen) Goetze. He married Mary Coaster on November 23, 1946 at St. John's rectory in Ubly. She preceded him in death on June 25, 1996. He was a life-long farmer and carpenter. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Forestville. He helped build the Trinity Lutheran Church in 1964. He was an assistant Delaware Township treasurer for 31 years. He enjoyed bowling and traveling all over Michigan to play softball. He enjoyed the great outdoors with hunting and fishing. He is survived by three sons, Eugene Goetze and his wife, Caroline, of Minden City, Donald Goetze, of Port Hope, and Ronald Goetze and his wife, Kristin, of White Lake; two daughters, Karen Goetze and her partner, Tina Hendricks, of Taylor, Marie Quinn and her husband, James, of Aztec, New Mexico; 13 grandchildren; 5 great- grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Laura Badger, of Harbor Beach; step-brother, Wallace Steele, of Sterling Heights; and two sisters-in-law, Rita Coaster, of Reed City, and Evelyn Coaster, of Ubly. Mr. Goetze was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Arnold Goetze; and a sister, Margaret Osborne.
