Dove, 93, of St. Clair Shores and formerly of Caseville, died Thursday afternoon, April 21, 2005, at Blueridge Care Home in Jackson. She was born February 5, 1912 in Simsbury, Connecticut, and moved to Caseville with her parents, the late John and Antonette (Salmonvich) Scepanski in 1919. She had been employed at the Heasty Hotel in Pigeon for a time before moving to the Detroit area. There she met Vince Montreuil. They were married on June 20, 1931 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. They continued to live in the Detroit area, where she operated Mae's Beauty Shop until 1964, when they returned to Caseville. She opened a shop there for a time before retiring. Vince died on July 29, 1970. On December 4, 1971, she was united in marriage to Frank Dove at St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville and moved to St. Clair Shores. She was a past member of St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. She is survived by two brothers, Tony and Frank Scepanski, of Caseville; a sister, Julie Wyman, of Florida; two step-daughters, Lois Matheson, of Iowa, and Vivian Apmadoc, of Arizona; adopted daughter, Margaret Hall; her brother-in-law, Lloyd Montreuil; two special nieces, Nancy Willenberg, and JoAnn Embury; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were two sisters, Anne Mary Kincel (her twin) and Phyllis Cormendy. There will be a funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville with the Rev. Kenneth Yaroch, pastor, presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville, with a rosary prayer at 7 p.m. There also will be visitation from 10 a.m. until the start of the Mass on Wednesday at the church. Leona McGeachy Leona McGeachy, 84, of Port Austin, passed away Friday, April 22, 2005, at Courtney Manor Nursing Center in Bad Axe. Leona was born August 17, 1920 in Port Hope to the late Fred and Agnes (Lawitzke) Finkel. She was united in marriage to Gordon McGeachy on May 10, 1941 in Port Austin. Leona was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope and was very active in the women's groups. Leona is survived by her husband, Gordon, of Port Hope; a daughter, Judy Christakis and her husband, Sam, of Waterford; a son, Lyle McGeachy and his wife, Mary, of Romeo; a daughter, Jacquelyn McGeachy, of Edmonds, Washington; and a daughter, Marge Dargo and her husband, David, of Belleville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Agnes Tice, of Filion. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Athena Christakis. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2005, at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope with the Rev. Greg Eilers officiating. Burial will follow in the New River Cemetery. A scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Elizabeth Lou Stros Betty Stros, 62, of Port Hope, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at her home. She was born January 30, 1943 in St. Clair Shores, daughter of the late Walter and Elsie (Dickman) Osborne. Betty married Richard Stros on November 7, 1998 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Betty and Richard moved from Roseville to Port Hope after his retirement in 2001. Betty was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin and of the U&I Club in Port Austin. She loved playing bingo, traveling, and watching wildlife. She also enjoyed going shopping and to the movies with the girls. Betty is survived by her husband, Richard, of Port Hope; two children, Carmen Costales, of Macomb Township, and Chris Costales and his wife, Jessica, of Warren; five stepchildren, Larry Stros and his wife, Marcia, of New Baltimore, Marcie Obrinski, of Macomb Township, Gary Stros and his wife, Rita, of Emmett, Bill Stros and his wife, Cherri, of Casco Township, and Ricky Stros, of Port Hope; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Donna Barber and her husband, Jim, of Roseville, Carolyn Chopp and her husband, Ed, of Florida, and Sharon Cowart and her husband, Dewey, of Florida; two brothers, Fred Osborne and his wife, Diane, of Texas, and Rick Osborne, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Rice, 82, a lifelong resident of Dwight Township, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2005, at her home under hospice care and surrounded by her family. She was born April 2, 1923 in Grindstone City, daughter of the late Stanley and Pauline (Kula) Strozeski. Mary Strozeski and Edward Rice were united in marriage on January 19, 1946 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin in a ceremony presided over by Fr. Henry Podsiad. Edward preceded her in death August 1, 1992. Mrs. Rice was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and past president of St. Mary's Holy Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and visiting with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She is survived by four sons, Michael and Leonard Rice, of Kinde, David Rice and his wife, Cheryl, of Bad Axe, and Timothy Rice and his wife, Cathy, of Kinde; three daughters, Joann Quinn, of Kinde, Suzanne Ruth, of Kinde, and Marcia Smith and her husband, Geri, of Bad Axe; two sisters, Virginia Koroleski, of Bad Axe, and Eleanor Miller, of Port Austin; sister-in-law, Loretta Strozeski; brother-in-law, Roman Stockoski; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. McNaughton, 77, of Cass City, died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro after a long illness. Cleland Gordon A. Cleland, 88, of Minden City, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2005, at the Oakwood Annapolis Hospital in Wayne. He was born on June 4, 1916 in Detroit to the late Roy and Alta (Marriott) Cleland. He married Lillian Schock on January 7, 1939 at St. Gregory's in Grosse Pointe. Gordon was a resident of Minden City for 54 years. He was a parishioner at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in Forestville. He was a volunteer firefighter for Delaware Township. He liked to winter in Melbourne Beach, Florida, walk on the beach and watch the dolphins. He loved to go boating and fishing with his wife, Lillian, on Lake Huron. He enjoyed playing euchre, gardening, tinkering in the garage, and relaxing under his maple tree. Gordon is survived by his wife, Lillian, of Minden City; five children, Carol Marie Rogers and her husband, Curt, of Melbourne Beach, Florida, Robert J. Cleland and his wife, Karen, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Larry J. Cleland and his wife, Marilyn, of Pinckney, Pamela Pence and her husband, Kevin, of Romulus, and Ronald R. Hellman, 80, of Caseville, died of heart failure Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Leonard was born November 4, 1924 in Bessemer to the late Victor and Mae (Holappa) Hellman. He attended Bessemer Schools until moving to Detroit and working at Vickers. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and spent eight months as a prisoner of war being held by the Germans. He was awarded a Silver Star for his time in the service. After the war, Leonard returned home and married Shirley A. Liljegren on June 22, 1946 in Detroit. They moved to Royal Oak and raised a family there while Leonard worked for Michigan Bell, eventually retiring in 1982. Upon retirement, Leonard moved permanently to Caseville. He was a past president of the Caseville Eagles, a life member of the Sebewaing VFW and the Royal Oak Elks, and a member of the Port Austin American Legion and Caro Moose Lodge. Leonard is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Randall and his wife, Beverly, of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Ruthann McGill, of Caseville; and grandsons, Mark Hellman, of Denver, Scott McGill, of Oxford, and Matthew McGill and his friend, Janine, of Grand Blanc. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margorie; and step-sisters, Faith and Joy. A memorial service will take place at noon on Thursday, April 28, 2005, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville, followed by military honors provided by the Sebewaing VFW. Wednesday, April 27, 2005 Dean Charles Sander Dean Charles Sander, 42, of Austin, Texas, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2005. Mr. Sander is survived by his mother, Joan New Sander, of Bangs, Texas; son, Addison; stepdaughter, Melanie; brother, Brad Sander and his wife, Debbie, of Yorba Linda, California; goddaughter, Jennifer Sander; nieces, Jessica and Jourden Sander; stepmother, Kathy Sander; godparents, David Sander, of Garden City, and Karen Iseler, of Kinde. Willard Morris Warschefsky Willard "Bill" Morris Warschefsky, 85, of Bad Axe and formerly of Palms, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2005, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Bill was born December 31, 1919 in Palms to the late Albert J. and Amelia Barbara (Kaufman) Warschefsky. He never married. Bill served in the Army Air Corp in World War II, where he also served in the European theater. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Palms. He enjoyed playing euchre, hunting, and fishing. Bill is survived by one brother, Leland Warschefsky and his wife, Joyce, of Bad Axe; one sister, Marion Nelson, of Port Huron; two step-sisters, Martha Deike, of Deckerville, and Dorothy Schultz and her husband, Stanley, of Port Huron; step-sister-in-law, Jane Warczinsky, of Palms; and several nieces and nephews. Haire, 41, of Tawas and formerly of Bad Axe and Caseville, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. She was born on May 21, 1963 in Cass City, daughter of Larry and Norma (Mattice) Timm. She is survived by her husband, Walter Haire, of Tawas; five sons, Dale Briesmiester, Jr., of Caseville, Chad Briesmiester, of Bad Axe, Cory Briesmiester, of Port Huron, Anthony Bowers, of Pigeon, and TJ Bowers, of Pigeon; two granddaughters, Dezera and Chelsey Briesmiester, of Caseville; parents, Larry and Norma Timm, of Bad Axe; maternal grandmother, Hazel Mattice, of Ubly; great-aunt, Bea Mearsheimer, of Bad Axe; aunt, Shelby (Lavern) Warchock, of Kalkaska; uncle, Albert Mattice, Jr. and special friend, Elsie, of Caro; and several cousins. Friday, April 29, 2005 Roy Clifford Hiller Roy Clifford Hiller, 76, of Waverly, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at his residence in Waverly. He was born on August 26, 1928 in Bad Axe to parents, George S. and Edith Grills Hiller. Mr. Hiller served his country in the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired from the U.S. Army. He was an employee of Ampex, where he also retired. He is survived by his wife, Nalra "Nell" Hiller, son, Steven Hiller and his wife, Glenda; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; brother, Charlie Hiller, of Troy; two sisters, Audrey Mattice and her husband, Bill, of Wisconsin, Eleanor Talaski, of Bad Axe. He was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Evonne Brown; three sisters, Genivieve Appleby, Dorothy Adams, and Charolette Sommers; and four brothers, Clayton, Orville, Darelle and Robert Hiller. Earl Kosal Earl Kosal, 51, of Brown City and formerly of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw following a year-long illness. Born in Harbor Beach on July 18, 1953, he was the son of Bertha (Maurer) Kosal and the late Irvin Kosal. Earl was an employee of Rochester Gear in Clifford. He was a former member of Our Lady of Lake Huron (OLLH) Catholic Church and graduated from OLLH Elementary School and Harbor Beach Community Schools. He enjoyed being with his family playing euchre, horseshoes and he enjoyed fishing. Surviving are his mother, Bertha Kosal, of Harbor Beach; five brothers, Gerald Kosal and his wife, Ginger, of Brown City, Edward Kosal and his wife, Cathy, of Auburn, Alabama, Daniel Kosal, of Brown City, James Kosal and his wife, Susan, of Belding, William Kosal and his wife, Kathy, of Pataskala, Ohio; four sisters, Gloria Parisi, of Beulah, Christina Smolinski, of Sterling Heights, Barbara Schubring and her husband, Jeff, of Millington, and Mary Kosal, of Farmington Hills; and several nieces and nephews. Linda Lee Martin Linda Lee (nee McDonald) Martin, 61, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2005, following a nine-year battle with cancer. Linda was born in Detroit at Mount Carmel Hospital on May 1, 1943. She is survived by her best friend and husband, Dale F. Martin; her parents, Ellen Isabell, nee Case, and Allan Duane McDonald; a brother, Ronald; a sister, Kathryn; her six children, Christopher, Scott, Jeffrey, Daniel, Bradley and Melanie; and 14 grandchildren, Jessica, Jay, Julie, Connor, Cameron, Colin, Allyson, Emmalee, Aidan, Sophie, Jenna, Joshua, Rachel and Helen. Linda's formative years were spent living on her family farm in Bad Axe. Linda attended the Little Red School House through eighth grade. After graduation, she attended Bad Axe High School and graduated with the Class of 1960. She received her bachelor of arts in secondary teaching and a master of arts in counseling from Central Michigan University. Following college, Linda worked in the Bay City schools for 28 years as a home economics teacher and counselor at McAlear-Sawden Middle School, an assistant principal at T.L. Handy High School, and a principal at Western Intermediate School. Linda left Bay City for a middle school principalship in South Lyon and then moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, and served as a counselor in the New Brunswick County schools. After her husband was named Superintendent of Schools with Downers Grove Grade School District 58 in 1998, the couple settled in Downers Grove, Illinois. A painter at heart, Linda combined her other hobbies of gardening and travel with her artistic talent. Her medium was watercolors and her favorite subject, the beauty of a flower or a peaceful landscape. She painted in "Monet's Garden," Italy, France, Mexico, and extensively in the United States. A memorial service has been planned to honor Linda's life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 4501 Main Street in Downers Grove, Illinois. A second memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on June 30, 2005 at First Presbyterian Church in Bad Axe. Helen A. Scholtz Helen A. Scholtz, 85, of Harbor Beach, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2005, in the long-term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Harbor Beach on November 21, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Matilda (Wolschleger) Booms. Helen and John Scholtz were united in marriage on June 14, 1938, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena. John preceded her in death on August 4, 1974. She was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach and enjoyed quilting and crocheting afghans for her family.
