Currie, 86, of Bad Axe and formerly of Harbor Beach, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2005, at the Edgewood Assisted Living Center in Saginaw. Born on July 25, 1918 in Harbor Beach, he was the son of the late Alec and Marguerite (Hunter) Currie. On May 11, 1946, Jack was united in marriage to Margaret Miller in Harbor Beach. She preceded him in death on November 21, 1982. Jack was united in marriage to Beada (Scherer) Gadde on June 9, 1984 in Harbor Beach. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in France and Germany. Jack was retired from Hercules, Incorporated in 1980, after working there 46 years. Jack was a member of the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach and a former Harbor Beach Lions Club member. He was an avid golfer, who at the age of 81, scored his first hole-in-one. Jack was a member and past club champion of Verona Hills Country Club. He marshaled many events at the club in his later years and maintained contact with many friends, including his Thursday poker buddies. During his last months, Jack was cared for by his friends from Heartland Hospice: Monique, Deb, Don, Shia, and special care-giver, Renee. Jack is survived by his wife, Beada Currie, of Bad Axe, and his children, John Currie and his wife, Mary Jo, of Saginaw, Mary Ann Bucholtz and her husband, Jerry, of Port Hope, Karen Kohlruss and her husband, Chuck, of Holland, Janet Currie, of Bay City, Donald Currie and his wife, Cindy, of Gahanna, Ohio, Greta Yeskey and her husband, David, of Troy, and Richard Currie and his wife, Jill, of Metamora. He also is survived by a step-son, William Gadde, of Troy; two sisters: Dorothy Cregeur and her husband, Harold, and Phyllis Engle and her husband, Carlton, of Caro; and by a brother, Douglas Currie and his wife, Eleanor, of Harbor Beach; 17 grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2005, at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. The Rev. Paula Timm, of Harbor Beach United Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Our Lady of Lake Huron Cemetery in Harbor Beach. Military graveside services will be provided by the American Legion Post 197. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, and from noon until the time of the funeral on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Heartland Hospice. Beatrice W. Havrilla Beatrice W. Havrilla, 79, of Caseville and formerly of East Detroit, died Friday, February 25, 2005, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon of pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis. She was born August 20, 1925 in Detroit to the late Edward and Olga Schultz. Beatrice grew up in Detroit and graduated from East Detroit High School in 1943 as the salutatorian. She married Dale E. Havrilla on July 21, 1946 in Detroit. She was employed by Schemm Insurance and Moldenhauer Insurance, both of East Detroit. In 1982, she moved to Caseville and worked at Kauffold Insurance, only retiring in January of this year. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Caseville and a former member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in East Detroit. She always had a positive attitude and found the silver lining in the clouds. Beatrice is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dale; children, David, of Okemos, James and his wife, Carol, of Eastpointe, Nancy Hellowell and her husband, Ray, of Cadillac, Tom "Tommie" of Slidell, Louisiana, and Gary, of Laurel, Maryland; grandchildren, David, Christie, Robert, Todd, Brandon, Megan, Angie, Shane, Bo, Rachel, and Chad Havrilla and Brad, Lori and Lindsay Hellowell; great- grandchildren Paetyn, Cole, Tate and Reid. Eileen R. Patterson Eileen R. Patterson, 92, of Bad Axe, died Friday morning, February 25, 2005 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe following a long illness. Mrs. Patterson was born January 3, 1913 in Liverpool, England. She was the daughter of Rudolph and Nellie Szewc. Miss Eileen R. Szewc and John K. Patterson were married September 1, 1945 in Manila, Philippines, while they both served in the U.S. military. Mr. Patterson preceded his wife in death on April 10, 1994. Soon after her discharge from the U.S. Army, she and her husband owned and operated Patterson Dry Cleaners in Bad Axe. The couple was very active in the community with regard to arts and crafts. Eileen taught ceramics, oil and watercolor painting, and decoupage. Mrs. Patterson was a member of the Bad Axe Historical Society, Huron Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served on the Bad Axe Public Library Board. Surviving are one son, Patrick C. Patterson, of Caseville, and one very special sister-in-law, Kathryn Artner, of Roseville. She was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Snyder, and two brothers, Harry and Reggie Szewc. Thoms George W. Thoms, 80, of Port Hope, passed away Friday, February 25, 2005, in the long- term care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Port Hope on February 10, 1925, he was the son of the late Leo and Clara (Bock) Thoms. On February 28, 1953, George and Betty Wohlford were united in marriage in Angola, Indiana. Betty preceded him in death on February 13, 1998. George was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope and was a supporter of the Lutheran Child and Family Services. George and Betty parented approximately 30 foster children through the state Department of Social Services. Surviving are his three children, Steve Thoms and his wife, Marguerite, of Harbor Beach, Linda Tageson and her husband, Steve, of Port Hope, and Susan Thoms, of Pigeon; four grandchildren; and two brothers: Herbert Thoms, of Port Hope, and Albert Thoms and his wife, Dorothy, of Port Hope. George was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Thoms, and a sister, Laura Weese. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope with the Rev. Gregory Eilers officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Bay Cemetery in Harbor Beach. Wright, 58, of Decker, died Thursday, February 24, 2005, at Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City after a long illness. She was born Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1946 in Lexington, Tennessee to Troy Lee and Ida Estell (Murren) Autry. She married Otis H. Wright on August 29, 1964 at the East Side Central Church of Christ in Detroit. Carol started her college education in 1987 when she was 41 years old. She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1991 and a master's degree in early childhood education in 1999 from Saginaw Valley State University. Carol worked for Detroit Public Schools, General Motors, Tuscola Intermediate School District, and Kingston Community Schools. She enjoyed cooking, reading, needlework, gardening, and her grandchildren. Carol is survived by her husband, Otis; two sons, Robert Steven Wright, of Kingston, Scott Allen and his wife, Candy, of Caro; daughter-in-law, Kathy Wright, of Caro; five grandchildren, Hannah, Jacob, Bram, Casey, and Evan Wright; brother, Charles William Autry and his wife, Mary Lou, of Parsons, Tennessee; mother, Ida Estell Autry, of Parsons, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Gladys Autry, of Chula Vista, California; several nieces, nephews, and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Troy Autry; and three brothers, Roy Autry, Bobby Autry, and Max Autry. Fankhauser, 85, of Lewiston, former Huron County resident, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2005, at the West Branch Regional Center following a long illness. Tuesday, March 1, 2005 Henry Felix Kurkowski Henry "Hank" Felix Kurkowski, a long time visitor to the county and Port Hope summer resident, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2005, after a long illness. He was born in Detroit in 1920 and was 84 years old. For the past 50 plus years, he resided in Royal Oak. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada "Trudy". Hank's surviving children are Paul Kurkowski and his wife, Carolyn, Danial Kurkowski and his wife, Judy, and Pamela Colombo and her husband, Joseph. As a young man, Hank's first trip to the Thumb was to Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse where he continued to spend many weekends with Ernie fishing and tending to lighthouse chores. Hank and Trudy honeymooned in Port Hope in 1940 and continued spending weekends camping at the park until purchasing property on Pochert Road in the sixties. Hank was employed by Anderson Crane, Homelite, and retired from Ellis and Ford. During his employment, Hank serviced many of the businesses and communities throughout the Thumb region. Funeral arrangements are at Sawyer Fuller Funeral Home in Berkley with burial scheduled for Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in Troy. Don H. Morrison Don H. Morrison, 68, of Pigeon and formerly of Rochester, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2005, at Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City. Born in Detroit to Hugh and Inez (Anderson) Morrison, he grew up in Caro where his father was a rural mail carrier. He graduated from Spring Arbor High School and was a 1961 graduate of the University of Michigan. On July 6, 1963, he was united in marriage to Carolyn K. Tribby at St. Marks Methodist Church in Detroit. Don worked as a systems analyst at General Motors and Electronic Data Systems retiring seven years ago. He built one of the first personal binary switch computers. His personal joy was to help and teach people about computers, establishing the Rochester O.P.C. Computer Club, as well as working with the Pigeon District Library Computer Club. He also loved model trains and built many layouts over the years. He also enjoyed photography. Don was an avid University of Michigan football fan, holding season tickets for over 40 years. He coached hockey and basketball, and enjoyed going to the Scottish Highland Games. He loved and was supportive of his children and grandchildren. Don was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon. In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by four children, Scott Morrison and his wife, Christine, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Lynn Lonsway, of Troy, Kathy Baars and her husband, Troy, of Ann Arbor, and Elizabeth Morrison and her fiance, James Shirey, of Atlanta, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Stephen, Claire, and Danny Morrison, Justin and Ryan Lonsway, and Joshua and Megan Baars; and two brothers, David Morrison and Robert (Sue) Morrison. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon with the Rev. Michael T. John was born in Detroit on December 17, 1944. He graduated from Laker High School in 1963, then served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. John owned the Caseville Fruit Market for many years, and more recently worked in security at Pioneer Sugar in Sebewaing. He was a member of the Pigeon VFW Post #2236. John is survived by his children, Jennifer Hakes and her husband, Kevin, of Delaware, Janice Sparkes and her husband, Tim, of Sebewaing, and John J., of Sebewaing; and grandchildren, Frankie and Kayla Wedding, Corey, Kanyak, Christopher and Jordan Peyerk, and Trey Sparkes. Wichert Lena L. Wichert, 98, of Pigeon, passed away early Monday, February 28, 2005, at the Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care in Pigeon. She was born in Sioux City, Iowa on April 11, 1906 to Godfred and Anna (Obenderfer) Kleinfelder. On June 2, 1928, she was united in marriage to Walter F. Wichert in Standish. He preceded her in death on August 8, 1983. Mrs. Wichert was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pigeon. She was a homemaker throughout her lifetime, and enjoyed gardening and embroidery, but especially loved her grandchildren and their families. Her survivors include three sons, Edwin Wichert and his wife, Mary Lou, of Frankfort, Donald A. Wichert and his wife, Dulcia, of Pigeon, and Robert Wichert, of Pigeon; two daughters, Nancy Kain and her husband, Jed, of Richmond, and Arlene Stevens and her husband, Sherman, of Bay Port; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Catheryn Engleman and Marie Richley; a brother, Henry Kleinfelder, and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Wichert. Jane Murray Wickey Jane Murray Wickey, 79, born and raised in Bad Axe, passed away in the company of her children in Satellite Beach, Florida on Thursday, February 24, 2005. Jane was the daughter of the late Gertrude and Lee Murray. She was the wife of Edward V. Wickey. He preceded her in death on February 18, 2004. Jane excelled in many different areas. She graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1943, from Michigan State University with a bachelor of science in social work in 1947, and from Catholic University Washington, D.C. with a masters in social work in 1951. She attained an advanced degree in psychotherapy from Washington School of Psychiatry, Washington, D.C., from 1952 to 1954. She was a chief psychiatric social worker at D.C. General Hospital in Washington, D.C. from 1956 to 1958. From 1958 to 1960, she was an associate professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical School in Washington D.C. She was chief psychiatric social worker at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1960 to 1962. She was associate professor of sociology at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. from 1962 to 1964. From 1965 to 1972, she was department chief of Youth Counseling and Family Service Division, Federal Government - Grade 14 and from 1973 until 1994 she was program director at Good Shepard Center in Baltimore, Maryland. She is survived by her brother, Samuel Murray and his wife, Shirley; son, Edward Wickey and his wife, Maria; granddaughter, Kristina Sanders; grandson, Samuel Wickey; great-grandsons, Alexander and Demetrius Sanders; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Wickey. Her body will be interred along with her husband at the Florida National Cemetery. Wednesday, March 2, 2005 David J. Reagan David J. Reagan, 64, of Waterford, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2005. Mr. Reagan was retired from the Avondale School District. He was the beloved father of Michael Reagan and his wife, Sherry, of Ferndale, Dwayne Daniel Reagan and his wife, Tracie, of Bad Axe, Mary Jo Caswell and her husband, Ken, of Waterford, Jason Nellist and his wife, Michelle, of Waterford; dear brother of Dan Reagan and his wife, Iris, the late Joanne Bergquist, Dale and Bill Reagan; grandfather of Sean, Lauren, Kaylee, and T.J. Ibbitson, 95, of Saginaw and formerly of Sebewaing, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Saginaw Pines Nursing Center in Saginaw following a brief illness. She was born August 25, 1909 in Bach, daughter of the late Nickolaus and Eva (Loucks) Lambert. She was united in marriage to William John Ibbitson on December 13, 1941 in Bach. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1981. Anna had operated an upholstery shop in Sebewaing for many years. She then moved to Madison Heights, Florida, and finally to Saginaw. She was a member of New Salem Lutheran Church in Sebewaing and the Sebewaing American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Andrew, George, and John Lambert; and one sister, Mary Hoch. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2005, at New Salem Lutheran Church. The Rev. William Mayhew will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to New Salem Lutheran Church. Margaret M. Rowland Margaret M. Rowland, 90, died on Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at the Huron County Care Facility. She was born May 25, 1914 to John A. and Mabel (Smith) Mitchell in Silverwood. She married Leslie D. "Pete" Rowland at the Methodist church in Bad Axe on July 11, 1934. Margaret was a 1932 graduate of Bad Axe High School, a graduate of Huron County Normal School in 1933, and later received her bachelor of arts degree from Adrian College. She was an elementary school teacher. She taught in Huron County rural schools, Port Austin and North Huron Public Schools, Palmyra School in Lenawee County, Blissfield Public Schools in Blissfield, and Hemmeter and Arrowood School in Saginaw Township. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and of the Retired School Personnel of Huron County. She also was a member and past president of Huron Medical Care Auxiliary. She is survived by one son, John M. Rowland and his wife, Linda, of Bad Axe; one daughter, Dr. Anne R. LeSher, of Middletown, Delaware; three grandchildren, John H. Rowland and his wife, Lina, of Nashville, Tennessee, David Rowland and his wife, Jill, of Bad Axe, and Sara Rowland of Evanston, Illinois; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Hayden Rowland and Mitchell David Rowland. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews in Wisconsin and Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, in 1993; one son-in-law, Dr. Dean A. LeSher in 1993; one brother, Jack Mitchell, in 1938; and one sister, Jean Seavitte, of Wautoma, Wisconsin in 2004. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Burial will be in Colfax Cemetery. Mark, Cady and Laney Schave Mark Tyler Schave, Cady Lee Schave and Laney Kathlyn Schave, infant triplets of Mark and Tracy Schave, went to the open arms of Jesus shortly following their births. Mark Tyler Schave was born on January 6, 2005, in Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw. Cady Lee Schave was born on February 18, 2005 in Bad Axe and passed away at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. Laney Kathlyn Schave was born on February 18, 2005 in Bad Axe and passed away at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw later that day. The children are survived by their parents, Mark and Tracy (Roberts) Schave, of Harbor Beach, and their grandparents, Richard and Diane Roberts, of Harbor Beach, and Alfred and Betty Schave, of Port Hope. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach with Fr. T.J. Stokan, 88, of Port Huron, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born on April 26, 1916 in Bad Axe, son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Molesworth) Stokan. He married Leora Randall on October 2, 1938 in Bad Axe. She preceded him in death on February 1, 1995. Mr. Stokan served as a firefighter in the Port Huron Fire Department for 38 years where he had been a captain and an assistant chief. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Port Huron, the Masonic Lodge #374 Fort Gratiot, the Mystic Chapter #58 Order of Eastern Star, and was a past president of the Michigan Fireman's Association. He is survived by two sons, Richard Stokan and his wife, Judy, of Bad Axe, and David Stokan and his wife, Linda, of Fort Gratiot; one son-in-law, Richard Krohn and his wife, Nancy, of Elkton; 11 grandchildren, Sally Jo Ryckman and her husband, Larry, of Mt. Pleasant, David Stokan and his wife, Pat, of Bad Axe, Daniel Stokan, of Port Huron, Susan Carol Morell, of Bad Axe, Diana Litten and her husband, Mike, of Brownstown, Richard Krohn and his wife, Kim, of Elkton, Ryan Krohn and his wife, Sherry, of Ubly, Richard Stokan and his wife, Wendy, of Rochester Hills, Darci Schomburg and her husband, Joseph, of Port Huron, Rachael Matson and her husband, Pete, of Bad Axe, and Rusty Krohn, of Elkton; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Elizabeth Krohn; one brother, Durell Stokan; and one great- grandson, Jimmy Morell. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2005, at the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Friday, March 4, 2005 Edward J. Teper Edward J. Teper, 81, of Warren, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at St. John's Oakland Hospital, Madison Heights. He was born on April 7, 1923 in Detroit. He retired from General Motors. Edward enjoyed woodworking, and loved to feed the birds. Edward and Florence were married for 55 years. They were married at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. She preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Kenneth and his wife, Margo, Karen Guitar and her husband, Allen, Jane Plumer and her husband, Roger, Edward J., Jr. and his wife, Cathy, and Ronald and his wife, Tina; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at St. Cletus Catholic Church in Warren. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Port Austin.
