Sunday, August 28, 2005 Edna Peyerk Edna Peyerk, 94, of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2005, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on August 13, 1911 in Harbor Beach, daughter of the late Alex and Anna (Grates) Talaski. She married Joseph Peyerk Sr. on August 31, 1928 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1978. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe and the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed sewing, euchre and spending time with her family. She is survived by six sons, Clarence Peyerk and his wife, Lois, of Bad Axe, Joseph Peyerk Jr. and his wife, Vivian, of Kinde, Sylvester Peyerk and his wife, Margie, of Shelby Township, James Peyerk and his wife, Janis, of Cass City, Alvin Peyerk and his wife, Nancy, of Ruth, David Peyerk, of Cass City; seven daughters, Genevieve Hupfer and her husband, Matt, of Port Austin, Donna Geiger and her husband, Robert, of Texas, Janet Danielski and her husband, Tom, of Sterling Heights, Mary Meharg and her husband, Gary, of Yale, Suzanne Stanton and her husband, Dale, of Emmett, Rita Jackson and her husband, Richard, of Bad Axe, Barb Rifenbark and her husband, Rick, of Bad Axe; three brothers, Tom Talaski and his wife, Terese, of Bad Axe, Julius Talaski and his wife, Vera, of Filion, Carl Talaski and his wife, Doris, of Milford; three sisters: Irene Gorney, of Bad Axe, Maggie Leppek, of Filion, Margie Woychowski, of Bad Axe; one brother-in-law, Irvin Polega, of Caseville; four sisters-in-law, Leona Lemanski, of Harbor Beach, Genny Peyerk, of Filion, Jean Talaski, of Bad Axe, Charlotte Kranz, of Harbor Beach; 50 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Peyerk; one daughter, Viola Polega; four brothers, Lawrence, Frank, Bernard and Robert Talaski; one sister, Mary Ann Polega; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Officiating will be Fr. James Carlson, pastor. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rapson. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Kaufman Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on Monday at the church. A parish scripture service will be at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday and a Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 8:30 p.m., both at the funeral home. James Bibik James E. Bibik, 63, of Forestville, passed away at his home on Saturday, August 27, 2005, with hospice care. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. A memorial service will take place in Clawson at a later time. Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, is handling arrangements. Monday, August 29, 2005 Clarence Broomfield Clarence "Shorty" Broomfield, 89, of Bad Axe, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2005, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born on January 20, 1916 in Huron County, son of the late Archibald and Selma Broomfield. He married Vera Stirrett on January 20, 1944. He was a member of the Masons Verona-Huron Lodge No. 365. He served as the Bad Axe City Clerk in the 1960s, was an accountant for the Bad Axe grain elevator, worked for the Detroit Free Press in distribution management, worked for the Huron Daily Tribune, and also was a custodian for Bad Axe High School. He enjoyed photography, hunting, antiques, and tinkering with fix-up projects. He is survived by his wife, Vera Broomfield, of Bad Axe; one son, David Broomfield and his wife, Diane, of Midland; two daughters, Sue Dennis-King and her husband, Jerry King, of Midland, and Lou Ann Gay and her husband, Dave, of Eureka, Montana; five grandchildren, Kelly Cook and her husband, James, of Ubly, Kerry Wright and her husband, Brian, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Andrew Broomfield, of Muskegon, Katie Peat and her husband, Matt, of Union, and Aaron Broomfield, of Michigan Center; and five great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Clifford Broomfield; and four sisters, Gracie Western, Clara Hicks, Macie Hurford, and Alice Truax. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2005, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Officiating will be the Rev. Jan Dykshoorn, pastor of Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be offered at 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be offered to the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church, Heartland Hospice, or the Alzheimer's Association. Emma Hatt Emma Hatt, 98, of Harbor Beach, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2005, at the Carven AFC Home near Harbor Beach. Born in Beauseiour, Manitoba, Canada on July 17, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Gottlieb and Paulina (Lippencauish) Brown. On November 12, 1934, Emma and Rollo Hatt were united in marriage in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Rollo preceded her in death on January 15, 1998. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Howard Drewitz; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Robert, Alex, William, and Edward Brown; and two sisters, Alice and Minnie. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at the Rock Falls Cemetery in Harbor Beach. The Rev. Dennis Cupery, pastor of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, will officiate. Arrangements are being handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. Tuesday, August 30, 2005 Kenneth W. Power Kenneth W. Power, 52, a life-long resident of Macomb County, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 28, 2005, in Shelby Township. He was a 30-year employee of Sommerset Park Apartment Complex in Troy as a supervisor. Mr. Power enjoyed golfing, fishing, and woodworking. He was the beloved father of Crystal Opatich and her husband, Brian, Nicholas Wagner and his wife, Catherine, and Richard Wagner and his wife, Kathleen; proud grandfather of Sydney, Caitlyn, Dillon, and Nicole; dear son of Mark and Mary Power; and beloved brother of Jerry Power and his wife, Pati, Richard Power and his wife, Anita, Suzanne Dervishian, Pat Monaco, and Evrene Janes and her husband, Rick. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wednesday, August 31, 2005 Lawrence A. Farley Lawrence A. Farley, 79, of Caseville and formerly of Imlay City, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2005, after a brief illness. Lawrence Allen Farley was born on July 21, 1926 in Athens, Ohio. He was a son of Peter and Hazel (Radcliffe) Farley. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was married to Helen Leone Campbell on April 19, 1947 in Waterworks Park in Detroit. She died April 26, 2004. He had been employed as a "stereotyper" over his 40-year career by the Detroit Free Press, the Detroit News, the Royal Oak Tribune, the Port Huron Times Herald, and the Lansing State Journal. He retired from the Detroit Free Press in 1990. He was a member of the American Legion in Caseville. Lawrence is survived by his sons, Michael Farley, of Caseville and Shawn Farley and his wife, Debbie, of Imlay City; his daughter, Karen Czapiewski and her husband, Larry, of Dryden; two brothers, John Joseph Farley and his wife, Marie, of Deltona, Florida, and Edward V. Farley and his wife, Mary Louise, of Sterling Heights; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Farley, of Tucson, Arizona; five grandchildren, Stacey Abromaitis and her husband, Paul, Michael Lawrence Czapiewski and his wife, Andrea, Michael J. Farley and his wife, Lisa, Patrick T. Farley and his wife, Crystal, and David Ice; five great-grandchildren, Christopher and Mia Farley, Paige, Jackson, and Lauren Abromaitis. Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, who died April 26, 2004; brothers, James Peter "Pete" Farley and Richard "Rich" Farley. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2005, at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy. Pastor Nathan Perkins, of the Lakeville Christian Community Church, will officiate. Anne Wagner Hogan Anne Wagner Hogan, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 14, 2005, after a valiant struggle with a lengthy illness. She was with her family at her residence at Heritage House in Santa Barbara, California. Born on April 6, 1915 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Oscar and Edith Wagner, she grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. Anne graduated from Hillsdale College in Michigan where she met her future husband, Maurice Todd Hogan. They were married on August 24, 1940 after he finished University of Michigan Dental School and shortly before he left for England to serve in World War II as a major in the Dental Corps. Later, they settled in Bad Axe, where they raised their three children. Anne lost her husband to cancer at age 47 in 1963, after which she pursued a teaching degree and taught elementary school in Bad Axe until 1982. Upon retirement, Anne moved to Santa Barbara, and pursued her love of golf, swimming and especially bridge, which she played at a tournament level for many years. Anne was an active alumnus with Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at the University of California-Santa Barbara campus, she volunteered at several local charitable organizations, and she supported numerous environmental issues. Traveling was a passion, and Anne saw much of the world. Her beloved pets always were a part of her life, and her last rescued cat was a great solace in her illness. Anne is survived by her three children, Kathie Snedeker, Anne Todd "Toddie" Erikson, and Bruce Hogan; her grandchildren, Chad, Emily, Anne, Avery, Mamie, Brad, Shelley and Sara; as well as eight great-grandchildren. Her courage, energy and independence will long remain an inspiration to her family and friends. Frank A. Smaglinski Mr. Frank A. Smaglinski, 79, lifelong resident of Harbor Beach, passed away Monday, August 29, 2005, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Frank was born on March 9, 1926 in Sigel Township to the late Frank and Agnes (Wrubel) Smaglinski. He married Marion Paionk on May 28, 1949 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. Frank farmed, was a mechanic, and worked in highway construction. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson as well as a member of the Holy Name Men's Society. He enjoyed fixing tractors, playing cards, and visiting with friends. He also enjoyed polka music and loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Frank is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marion, of Harbor Beach; his children, Gerald Smaglinski and his wife, Barbara, of Shelbyville, Indiana, Janet Kramer and her husband, Marvin, of Harbor Beach, Charlet Essenmacher and her husband, Thomas, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Marvin Smaglinski, of Harbor Beach, Richard Smaglinski and his wife, Suzette, of Massillon, Ohio, Susan Lange and her husband, Jeffery, of Bad Axe; 27 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve Horvet and her husband, Kenneth, of Plymouth; two sisters-in-law, Georgeana Guza and her husband, Meinard, of Bad Axe, Andrea Piotrowski, of Sterling Heights; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Beatrice Gosdzinski and her husband, Joseph; three brothers, Clarence, Eugene, and Phillip Smaglinski; one brother-in-law, James Piotrowski; his father and mother-in-law, Edward and Edna Paionk. A Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. The Rev. James Carlson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. by St. Rita's Altar Society today at the funeral home. Thursday, September 01, 2005 – No obituaries reported Friday, September 2, 2005 Robert Lee Ertman Mr. Robert Lee Ertman, 51, of Ubly, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at Tendercare of Cass City. He was born on December 3, 1953. He was the adopted son of Archie and Arinda Ertman. He was a 1979 graduate of Bad Axe High School. He worked assembling car parts at Thumb Industries. He enjoyed movies, camping, visiting with friends and neighbors and his pet kittens. Robert is survived by his sister, Lois Tezak, of Ubly; one step-brother, Steven McHugh, of Sebewaing; his special companion, Dee Koehn, of Ubly; one aunt, Janet Smoot, of Charlotte, North Carolina; his nephews, Anthony J. Tezak III and his wife, Francine, of Kapoli, Hawaii, Patrick A. Tezak and his wife, Helene, of New Baltimore, Michael Tezak and his wife, Nancy, of Sandusky, Steven Tezak, of Auburn Hills, Daniel Tezak and his wife, Rasheedah, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Christopher Tezak and his fiancee, Nikki Robinson, of Auburn Hills. A funeral service will be at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2005, at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor of St. John Catholic Church in Ubly, will officiate.
