Sunday, October 30, 2005 Dr. Thelma June MacRae Dr. Thelma June MacRae, D.O., 86, of Gagetown, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2005, after an extended illness. She was born June 1, 1919 in New Greenleaf, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Sarah (McLellan) MacRae. Dr. June was one of the original female osteopathic physicians to practice in the Thumb area. She graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1941 and was a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Eastern Michigan Osteopathic Association, and the Academy of Osteopathy. She opened her practice in Gagetown in 1942 and continued practicing for more than 50 years, and still practiced Osteopathic Manipulation until recently. Dr. June is survived by brothers, Calvin William (the late VernaMae) MacRae, of Cass City, Farquhar Bruce (Lois) MacRae, of Fowlerville; a sister, Margaret Elizabeth (Eaton) Kelly, of Detroit; a sister-in-law, Evelyn MacRae, of Marshall; and many loving nieces and nephews. Dr. June was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Leonard Douglas MacRae, M.D., Anna Marjorie MacRae, Dorcas Evangeline MacRae, Christina Alexander MacRae, Kenneth Ivan MacRae, M.D., Lorna Belle MacRae, Archibald Raymond MacRae, and Lela Irene Hall. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today, October 30, 2005, at the Thabet Funeral Home, 6255 Main Street, Cass City, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at Fraser Presbyterian Church, 3006 Huron Line Road, Cass City, on Monday, October 31, 2005, with the Rev. Turner, 76, of Cass City, died Friday, October 28, 2005, in her home with her family by her side. She was born March 2, 1929 at home in Caseville to Lois and Mary (Nagy) Kelterborn. She married Jim Turner on April 29, 1978 in Adrian. Alice was best known for her love of farming. She worked for General Cable for a short time. She loved to bowl. She played pool, golfed, and played euchre. Alice loved the outdoors, especially working in her flower gardens. She enjoyed painting the wooden craft items Jim made in his shop. Wills Aleta (Lete) Wills, 87, of Bad Axe, passed away Thursday evening, October 27, 2005, at Courtney Manor after a long illness. She was born June 13, 1918 in Lincoln Township, daughter of the late Fred and Effie (Woods) Gilbert. Lete and Elgin Wills were married January 9, 1937 in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1981. The couple farmed in Sheridan Township for many years before moving to Bad Axe and Mrs. Wills was very proud of the fact that she lived her entire life in Huron County, with the exception of a couple of winters spent in Port Richey, Florida. She was a 1935 graduate of Bad Axe High School and was employed for many years as a bookkeeper and cashier for A&P, after which she worked at the Reimann-Snyder Furniture Store, retiring in 1980. Aleta was a member of the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church and a 68-year life member and past matron of the Ubly Miriam Chapter 214 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are two daughters, Helen Waggoner and her husband, Ray, of Vassar, and JoAnn Lipan and her husband, Tom, of Sand Point; three grandsons, Randy Hartwick and his wife, Kelly, Richard Hartwick and his wife, Donna, and Scott McDonald and his wife, Becky; three granddaughters, Robin Geesey and her husband, Gregg, Amy Osentoski and her husband, Marvin, and Julie Helewski and her husband, Richard; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Ryan Hartwick; one son-in-law, Don McDonald; three sisters, Eldora Gowen, Jackie Wooley, and Eva Reimann; and one brother, Kenneth Gilbert. Kleinfeld, 47, of Bay Port, died Saturday evening, October 29, 2005, from injuries received in an automobile-truck accident near Sebewaing. She was born September 11, 1958 in Bad Axe, daughter of Albert R. and Irene A. (Royalty) Volz. She was a 1976 graduate of Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port High School. She was united in marriage to Conrad J. Kleinfeld on July 12, 1975 at Hayes United Methodist Church. Sharlene attended St. Clair College in Bad Axe and received her licensed practical nurse's degree. She then had been employed at Caro Regional Center in Caro and then Sunny Acres Convalescent Home near Bad Axe and later at the Scenic Home in Pigeon. For the past 15 years she had been a secretary for Vollmer Plumbing and Heating in Bay Port. She was a member of the Fairhaven Township Women's Auxiliary. She loved to do crafts. Surviving are her husband, Conrad, of Bay Port; two sons, Christopher and his wife, Molly, of Olivet, Nicholas Kleinfeld and his fianceé, Gina Lee Hurren, of Bay Port; two grandchildren, Colton and Hannah; her parents, Albert Volz, of Pigeon, and Irene Volz, of Owendale; sister, Sherry Miller and her husband, James, of Pigeon; two brothers, Ronald Volz and his wife, Ann, of Kinde, and Brian Volz, of Owendale; one special aunt, Shirley and Fred Engbloom, of Grand Blanc; several nieces and nephews; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Alice Kleinfeld, of Pigeon. Burkhard Harold C. Burkhard, 81, of Harbor Beach, went to be with his Lord on Monday, October 31, 2005, in the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Harbor Beach on May 27, 1924, he was the son of the late Alex and Edith (Gerstenschleger) Burkhard. Harold and Dorothy Perlick were united in marriage on July 5, 1947 in Harbor Beach. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. Harold was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach and a charter member of the VFW Post of Harbor Beach and the American Legion of Harbor Beach. Harold enjoyed hunting and fishing and visiting with his grandchildren, great- grandchildren and friends. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Burkhard, of Harbor Beach; children, Jean Huntoon and her husband, Fred, of Wheeler, Rick Burkhard and his wife, Sharon, of Wheeler, and Dennis Burkhard and his wife, Gail, of Harbor Beach; eight grandchildren, Jason Huntoon, Tysha Huntoon, and Jeremy (Erin) Huntoon, Joshua and his wife, Michelle, Aaron Burkhard, Melissa Burkhard, Christina Burkhard, and Amanda (Chad) Bucholtz; and two great-grandchildren, Tayler Huntoon and Josiah Burkhard; and a step-great-grandson, Jared Huntoon. A military service will be conducted at the cemetery, performed by the VFW Post of Harbor Beach and the American Legion of Harbor Beach. Peter J. Leiterman Peter J. Leiterman, 82, of Unionville, died Sunday, October 30, 2005, at Bay Shores Nursing Center in Bay City following a lengthy illness. He was born February 25, 1923 in Bach, son of the late Peter and Anna (Keller) Leiterman. He was united in marriage to Julia June Retzler on May 10, 1947 in Sebewaing. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2005. Pete had been employed at Active Industries in Elkton for 30 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Sebewaing and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 8582. He was an avid golfer and loved to bowl. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Peter M. (Marilyn) Leiterman, of Gloucester, Virginia, Donald (Laura) Leiterman, of Vassar, and Cheryl Heinitz and her fiance, Joseph Halasz, of Sebewaing; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Rose Kunst, of Detroit, Margaret (Everett) Finkbeiner, of Redford Township, Emma Mitts, and Marion Hamlin, of Bay City, Anna (Donald) Kothe, and Lillian (Donald) Retzler, all of Sebewaing, and Katherine Avery, of Reese; and one brother, John Leiterman, of Oscoda. He was preceded in death by three sisters, infants, Frances and Esther Leiterman, and Elizabeth Leiterman; and great-granddaughter, Emma Rockwell. Shaw, 80, of Elkton, died Monday morning, October 31, 2005, at Covenant Cooper, Saginaw. She was born February 23, 1925 in Bad Axe to the late Russell and Margaret (Durr) Richards. Dora grew up in the Bad Axe area. She had been employed at Hammel Manufacturing in Bad Axe for more than 15 years before moving to the Lansing area. She lived there several years and then lived in Honor, Michigan near her son, Bruce, for seven years and returned to Elkton last year. She was a past member of the Chandler Presbyterian Church and enjoyed cooking, garage sale bargain hunting, and gardening. Surviving are four sons, Bruce (Donna) Shaw, of Honor, Glenn (Cindy) Shaw, David (Linda) Shaw, and Paul Shaw, all of Elkton; 11 grandchildren, Laura, Julie, Michael, Brian, Kami, Ryan, Jeff, Jason, Brad, Christina, and Kimberly; three great-grandchildren, Noah, Aidan, and Mason; and her dog, Max. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Don and Carl Richards; and four sisters, Blanche Brausseur, Irene Niehaus, Marge Payne, and her twin, Doris Marshall. Rayl, 77, of Phoenix, Arizona and formerly of Gagetown, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 27, 2005, in her home. She was born October 17, 1928 in Cass City to Douglas J. and Verneta Mabel (Wright) Stilson. She married Earl Rayl, Jr. on June 4, 1945. Verneta graduated from Cass City High School. She retired from General Cable after many years. Verneta was always most content when helping others. Volunteering where needed, she tutored elementary school children, supported a local convalescent home and was devoted to all aspects of her church, including being a member of the choir and selecting the music. She enjoyed golfing, knitting and baking and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Verneta is survived by her husband of 57 years, Earl; children, Randy Rayl and Jim (Vicki) Rayl; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters, Laura (Ken) McRae, and Ruth (Keith) Buehrly; brothers, Oliver (June) Stilson, and Carl (Arlene) Stilson; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Gerald (Betty) Stilson, and Donald (Evelyn) Stilson. Wednesday, November 2, 2005 Laverne J. Bukoski Laverne J. Bukoski, 61, of Millington, died Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at home with his family. Laverne was born July 18, 1944 to John and Bertha (Kociba) Bukoski in Bad Axe and married Kay Glaza on March 2, 1965 in Ubly. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was employed by Black and White Asphalt Company in Burton. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed hunting, tractor pulling, and polka music. Laverne is survived by his wife, Kay; four children, Jeffery (Tamara) Bukoski, of Millington, Colleen Bukoski, of Lake City, Scott (Nancy) Bukoski, of Mayville, Greg (Tonya) Bukoski, of Millington; one sister, Doreen (Peter) Dickinson, of Ubly; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Barbara Bukoski. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mayville with Fr. Busch, 44, of Portage, passed away unexpectedly at his home near Kalamazoo as a result of a cancer illness on Wednesday, October 26, 2005. Greg was born in Harbor Beach on January 1, 1961, the son of Fred and Gloria (Essenmacher) Busch. He graduated from Bay City Western High School in 1979. He then graduated from Western Michigan University in 1983, receiving his bachelor's degree for business administration and majoring in accounting. He worked for Lockwood Income Tax Center, where he became a partner in the firm. He was also owner of Profit Control Accounting. Greg was of the Catholic faith. He was an avid Lions fan and enjoyed boating. Surviving are his parents, Fred and Gloria Busch, of Sand Point; his sister, Barbara Wilson, of Jackson; two nephews, Kennedy and Daniel Wilson, both of Jackson; his grandmother, Olive Busch, of Harbor Beach; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He also will be sadly missed by numerous friends and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Roman Busch, and his grandparents, Harold and Anna Essenmacher. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2005, at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach with Fr. T.J. Fleming presiding. Kessel, 18, of Port Hope, passed away Monday, October 31, 2005, near Port Hope from injuries he received in an auto accident. Born in Bad Axe on July 28, 1987, he was the son of Arnold and Marie (Gusa) Kessel. Derek was a senior at North Huron High School in Kinde and a student at the Huron Area Tech Center. He was looking forward to playing basketball this winter as well as going snowmobiling up north. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and other outdoor recreational activities. Derek was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope, the Port Hope Grindstone Sportsman Club and was in the Trap Shooting League. Surviving are his parents, Arnold and Marie Kessel, of Port Hope; two brothers, Albert and Arnold Kessel, Jr.; and two sisters, Rachel and Tammy Kessel, all of Port Hope; his grandmothers, Florence Gusa and Leona Kessel both of Port Hope; his godparents, Mary Schumacher and Dean Kessel; and special friends, Joshua Babiscewski, Melissa Richmond, and Shawn Baldwin. Robertson Lutisha E. Robertson, 92, of Harbor Beach, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, in Courtney Manor Nursing Center of Bad Axe. Born in Ellington on July 2, 1913, she was the daughter of the late George and Lois (Parker) Morley. Lutisha was united in marriage to Robert Robertson on September 16, 1932. Robert preceded her in death on December 16, 1976. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Harbor Beach. Surviving are her children, June Hazel, of Harbor Beach, Jack Robertson and his wife, Rita, of Texas, Charles Robertson and his wife, Gin, of Garden City; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lyle Morley, of Harbor Beach; and a sister, Ruby Roggenbuck, of Harbor Beach. She was preceded in death by a sister, Twilla Kolomak; and four brothers, Lee, Joe, Clair, and Guy Morley. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2005, in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, with the Rev. Theresa Cutler officiating. Marriann Sopczynski Ann Sopczynski, 62, of Harbor Beach, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2005, at St. Mary`s Medical Center, Saginaw. Born in Port Huron on March 21, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Orville and Glendora (Peak) Canham. On November 17, 1962, Ann was united in marriage to Robert Sopczynski in Port Huron. Ann was a member of the Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach, the American Legion Auxiliary of Harbor Beach and the Red Hat Society of Harbor Beach. Surviving are her husband, Robert Sopczynski, of Harbor Beach; two daughters, Theresa Overcast and her husband, Ronald, of Centerline, and Lorriann Moore and her husband, Wayne, of New Baltimore; nine grandchildren; sister, Lillis Marie Lee and her husband, Bill, of Port Huron. Dale Wertz, of Bay Port, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 3, 2005. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2005.
