Emerick, 93, of Port Hope, passed away Friday, December 30, 2005, at the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Port Hope on October 15, 1912, he was the son of the late George and Violet (Edwards) Emerick. On February 5, 1934, Edwin and Margaruite Maschke were united in marriage in Port Hope. She preceded him in death on October 23, 1965. On June 30, 1966, Ed and Amilea Weiss were united in marriage in Port Hope. She preceded him in death on October 1, 1989. Ed was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope and was the owner/operator of Emerick Excavating from 1945 until he retired in 1972. Surviving are his children, Oren Emerick and his friend, Meg, of St. Helen, and Terry Emerick and his wife, Peggy, of Port Hope; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Cleo Teshendorf, of Lake Orion. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Gloria Teschendorf; a grandchild, Dean Teschendorf; great-grandchild, Jodie Emerick; and 10 brothers and sisters, Leonard, Rollie, Myron, Stanley, Lester, Manley, Rose Schave, Myrtle Dietrick, Lillian Wagester, and Ida Pelton. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today, Monday, January 2, 2006, at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope with the Rev. Gregory Eilers, pastor, officiating. Marjorie "Marge" Harwood Marjorie "Marge" Harwood, 68, of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2005, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born on July 12, 1937 in Kinde, daughter of the late Valentine and Matilda (Goretski) Wisneski. She married Vern Harwood on February 28, 1956 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dwight Township. She was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church at Sheridan Corners. She is survived by her husband, Vern, of Bad Axe; two sons, Dale (Alaina) Harwood, of Marlette, and Duane Harwood, of Clifford; one daughter, Sandra Harwood, of Bad Axe; three brothers, Alger Wisneski, of Lincoln Park, Ray Wisneski, of Mt. Clemens, Everette Wisneski, of Austin, Texas; one sister, Virginia Morris, of New Boston; six grandchildren, Jim, Chad, Jeremy and his fianceé, Fanny, Jeff, Jesse, and Shawn; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Harwood; and several nieces and nephews. Angelina Martinez Angelina Martinez, 54, of Sebewaing, accidentally drowned in an automobile accident near Sebewaing on Thursday, December 29, 2005. She was born April 12, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas, daughter of the late Carlos and Rosa (Cardenas) Camacho. She was married to Alberto C. Martinez Sr. on February 8, 1969 in Caro. Angie enjoyed reading her Bible, praising and worshiping her Lord, and ministering to people. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, brothers and sisters. Surviving are her husband, Alberto, of Sebewaing; two sons and two daughters, Alberto C. Martinez Jr., of Denver, Colorado, Steven M. Martinez, of Orlando, Amy C. (Michael) VanHove, of Akron, and Glory Ann Martinez, of Chicago; two grandchildren, Ashley and Tristan VanHove; four sisters and their spouses, Gloria Galacia, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Hope (Tereso) Herrera, of Apopka, Florida, Yolanda (Ron) Masta, of Potite, Texas, Amelia (Roy) Uballe, of Blanco, Texas; five brothers and their spouses, Carlos (Eloisa) Camacho, Mike (Estella) Camacho, and Freddie (Rosario) Camacho, all of San Antonio, Texas, Jesse (Luisa) Camacho, and David (Rosa) Camacho, both of Apopka, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth Parcells Singer Elizabeth Parcells, 54, coloratura soprano, of Grosse Pointe Farms, died of cancer on Thursday, December 29, 2005, at her home one day after her 54th birthday. At age 16, she began her formal music education attending the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen. She earned a bachelor's degree (1974) and master's degree (1976) of music with honors at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where she studied voice with Mark Pearson. In 1977, she was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera Council National Final Auditions in New York City. She moved to Europe in 1979, where she sang with solo ensembles at opera houses in Frankfort, Augsburg, and Weisbaden and spent four seasons with the Basel Opera. She was also an active recitalist who performed in Boston, San Francisco, Rome and Paris. Starting in 1987, she gave recitals with guitarist, Felix Justen. In April 1996, she was invited to participate with Luciano Pavarotti and Joan Sutherland in the gala concert that opened the new Detroit Opera House. Her farewell recital was given at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York in February 2005 under Pro Musicis' sponsorship. Elizabeth performed in opera productions in Europe and America for 30 years. Her major roles included Donizetti's Maria Stuarda, Lucia di Lammermoor and Linda di Chamounix. She appeared regularly as Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute and as Olympia in Offenbach's Tales of Hoffman. Her concert repertoire included Bach's Cantata 51, the Brahms Requiem, and Mozart's C Minor Mass, Motet and concert arias. Jerome "Jerry" Root Jr. Jerome "Jerry" Root Jr., 82, of Cass City, died Saturday, December 31, 2005, at Northwood Meadows in Cass City. He was born May 9, 1923 in Cass City to Jerome and Margaret (Szabo) Root Sr. He married Grace Myrtle Galbraith on April 15, 1945 at her parents home in Comins. She died March 24, 1983. He then married Normaleen Jean McIntosh on August 31, 1985 at Shabbona United Methodist Church. Jerry played high school football and track. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a self-employed carpenter with Root Building for many years. Jerry also worked as a carpenter for Patell Construction, RC Hendricks and for Tom Herron. He was a former member of the Cass City Tyler Masonic Lodge No. 317 and a former member of the Cass City Chamber of Commerce. Jerry started with the Cass City Fire Department in 1958 and served until 1989. During that time, he served as chief from 1969 to 1971. In 1982, he was appointed by the township board as the first full-time paid village Fire Department Chief. Jerry was one of the original members of the Cass City Investment Club, a former member of the Cass City United Methodist Church and a member of the Shabbona United Methodist Church. White, 89, of Harbor Beach, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2005, at the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Detroit on October 12, 1916, he was the son of the late Henry and Francis Wojtalewiecz. Bill was a retired employee of Hercules, Inc., of Harbor Beach, retiring as a project engineer after 44 years. On May 6, 1939, Bill and Grace Laskey were united in marriage in Harbor Beach. He was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church and was an usher and was a former coach for various sports at OLLH School. Bill was a former Little League coach. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting and fishing and baseball. He and Grace were members of the former Square Dance Club. Bill was a long-time donor of the American Red Cross Blood Program receiving many gold pins for donating. Surviving are his wife, Grace White, of Harbor Beach, and their children, William D. White, of Harbor Beach, Jody Brett and her husband, William, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Barbara Ayotte and her husband, John, of Harbor Beach, and John White and his wife, Laurie, of Bad Axe; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Stanley White, of Dunedin, Florida. Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph White. Tuesday, January 3, 2006 – No obituaries reported Wednesday, January 4, 2006 Thomas Lee "Tom" Deming Thomas Lee "Tom" Deming, 43, of Bay Port, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2006, in Bad Axe. He was born at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon on August 6, 1962, the son of Frank H. and Wilma (Squires) Deming and graduated from the Huron Learning Center. Tom worked at Thumb Industries and was a member of the 4-H Handicraftsmen. He enjoyed feeding the birds, fishing, and going to the races. He loved his brothers and enjoyed being with them and his parents. He liked everybody and taught everyone he met to stop, slow down, and enjoy life around them. He had the gift of turning everything he touched into gold. Tom was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Bay Port. He is survived by his parents, Frank H. and Wilma Deming, of Bay Port; his brothers, Franklin Deming, Timothy Deming, Edwin Deming and his wife, Stacy, all of Bay Port, and Luke Deming and his wife, Kelly, of Bad Axe; his nieces and nephews, Travis, Christopher, Billy, Maggie, Anthony, Lily, and Chyna; his longtime caregivers and special friends, Duane and Mary Jurges and Janet Leppek; and many other friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry. Patricia Rae Jimkoski Patricia Rae Jimkoski, 67, of Port Austin, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at her home. She was born on May 20, 1938 in Harbor Beach, daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Mika) Wrubel. She married Alger Jimkoski on May 17, 1958 in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on August 14, 2000. Patricia graduated from Our Lady of Lake Huron in Harbor Beach. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin and the VFW No. 116 in Bad Axe. She was an avid participant in Relay for Life. Patricia loved baking, especially wedding cakes, gardening, and playing bingo. She also loved to spend time traveling and being with her grandchildren. Patricia is survived by six children, David (Teri) Jimkoski, of Kinde, Dale Jimkoski, of Port Austin, Charlotte (Jessie) Hall, of Greencastle, Indiana, Lawrence (Barbara) Jimkoski, of Elkton, Eva Jimkoski, of Kinde, and Martha (Matthew) Dittel, of Berkley; 14 grandchildren, Tess, Thomas, and Leaha Jimkoski, Megan, David, and Ray Hall, Sara and Tara Jimkoski, Tina and Michael McCrillis, Scott and Brian Hagan, and Jasmine and Aaron Dittel; and one great-grandchild, Nolan McCrillis. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Laura Molly Ball Laura M. Ball, 88, of Cass City, died Monday, January 2, 2006, at Hills & Dales General Hospital. She was born August 24, 1917 at home in Tuscola County to Louis and Clemtina (Merchant) Crocker. She married Grant Wesley Ball on July 15, 1938 in Cass City. He died September 18, 1976. Laura graduated from Cass City High School in 1936. Over the years, she was a caregiver to many friends and neighbors. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and then Cass City United Methodist Church totaling 72 years and was a member of the UMW. Laura was a member of Hills & Dales General Hospital Auxiliary for over 25 years. She served as a Cub Scout leader when her boys were little. Laura enjoyed working in her flowers, cooking and doing crafts. Laura is survived by her sons, Wesley (Sharon) Ball, of Reese, and Donald (Barbara) Ball, of Cass City; grandchildren, Mary Ann (David) Vanest, John (Cyndi) Ball, Grant Ball, Donald W. McFadden, 76, of Caseville, died Friday, December 9, 2005, at the Veteran's Hosptial in Saginaw. Thursday, January 5, 2006 Thomas J. Cresswell Tom Cresswell, 59, died on Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at his seasonal home in Bonita Springs, Florida. Tom was born in St. Louis on March 14, 1946 to Richard and Shirley Cresswell. He received a B.S. degree from Michigan State University in 1969, and a J.D. degree from the University of Michigan in 1972. After working with his uncle in private law practice, Tom joined the legal department of The Dow Chemical Company in Midland in 1974. He retired from Dow Chemical in 2000 and moved to his home in Charlevoix. Tom is survived by his wife, Ruth A. (Buschlen) Cresswell; his three children, Jason (Sarah) Cresswell, of Petoskey, Lyndsey (Brian) Nilles and their daughter, Lyla, of Midland, and Joshua Cresswell, of Midland; and his two step-children, Michael Rosa, and daughters, Chloe and Lanea, of Pigeon, and Marc (Adrienne) Rosa, of Farmington Hills. Tom is also survived by his mother, Shirley Cresswell, of St. Louis; and his sisters and brother, Patricia (David) Rosenberg, of Nokesville, Virginia, John B. (Laurie) Cresswell, of St. Louis, and Leann (Steve) Slosson, of Lake Orion. Tom was predeceased by his father, Richard Cresswell; and his sisters, Cara and Candace Cresswell. Tom is missed and will be remembered forever by his entire family, his close cousin, Jim (Candy) Cresswell, his many friends, colleagues and friends from his Dow career, and his golf, fishing and hunting buddies. Tom was a man of many interests and skills, one of which was being a wonderful grandfather. His granddaughters, Lyla, Chloe and Lanea, brought him his greatest joy the past few years. Gerald J. Elston Gerald J. Elston, 68, of Unionville, died Tuesday evening, January 3, 2006, at his home following a nine-month illness. He was born August 19, 1937 in Sebewaing Township, son of the late Walter and Luella (Sting) Elston. He was united in marriage to Ruth M. Baur on October 11, 1958 in New Salem Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Gerald had been employed at Defoe Shipbuilding in Bay City and later for American Brownhoist and then Tower Automotive in Sebewaing for 17 years before retiring in 2002. He also farmed in the Sebewaing-Unionville area for many years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing, had been president of A.A.L. for 25 years; a 4- H leader for 25 years, and had served on the Sebewaing Township Board of Review. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and especially enjoyed being with his family. Surviving are his wife, Ruth; one son, three daughters and their spouses, Kevin (Cindy) Elston, of Joshua, Texas, Cynthia (Dennis) Engelhard, of Unionville, Barbara (Steve) Prahl, of Greenville, Tamara (Todd) Lutz, of Owendale; 11 grandchildren, Jenny McBride, Matthew, Brandon Elston, Marissa, Nathan and Kayla Engelhard, Anna, Chelsea and Zachary Prahl, Dylan and Kendall Lutz; two step-grandchildren, Becky and Candy; also one great-granddaughter, Andrea Elston; one sister, two brothers and their spouses, Sheila (David) Fuerst, Doug (Sally) Elston, all of Sebewaing, Roger (Patricia) Elston, of Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Lutheran School or Immanuel Lutheran Church. Ronald E. Good Ronald E. Good, 74, of Gagetown, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at the Caro Community Hospital. He was born in Brookfield Township on April 10, 1931, son of the late Edmund and Bernadine (Kretzschmer) Good and graduated from Owendale High School in 1949. On August 19, 1950, he was united in marriage to Hazel Howard at the Owendale Federated Church. She survives him. Mr. Good was a dairy and cash crop farmer his entire life. He was a public servant, serving 32 years as a member of the Owen-Gage Board of Education. He was an active member of the Owendale Lions Club as well as a faithful member of the Owendale United Methodist Church, where he served in many ways including Ad Council chairperson and Sunday School teacher. He and his wife, Hazel, enjoyed traveling. Ron loved life, had a great sense of humor and became a friend to those he met. Some of his happiest times were when he was surrounded by his family. In addition to his wife, Hazel, to whom he had been married for more than 55 years, he is survived by six children, Rhonda (Doug) Powers, of Gagetown, Elizabeth (John) Roemer, of Gagetown, David (Julie) Good, of Gagetown, Mary (Bert) Brinkman, of Cass City, Paula (Jim) Ralph, of Edwardsburg, and Ronald (Robin) Good, of Hudsonville; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois (Robert) Albrecht, of Owendale and Eleanor Truemner, of Cass City; three brothers, Edmund, Jr. (Betty) Good, of Gagetown, Lloyd Good, of Gagetown, and Robert Good, of Holly; and many nieces and nephews. Swartzendruber John Edward Swartzendruber, Sr., 85, of Pigeon, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at Country Gardens in Pigeon. He was born in Iowa on January 24, 1920, son of the late Jacob and Lydia (Gascho) Swartzendruber and graduated from Pigeon High School. On November 16, 1941, he was united in marriage to Alta G. Maust at Pigeon River Mennonite Church. The couple had been married nearly 53 years when Alta passed away on October 13, 1994. Mr. Swartzendruber sang with the Gospel Messengers Quartet for many years. He especially loved music and played many instruments, including the harmonica and several stringed instruments. He enjoyed fishing, nature, admiring the crops in the field, and was known as a problem-solving mechanic. Mr. Swartzendruber dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandson, and was looking forward to meeting his great-granddaughter. He was a faithful member of Pigeon River Mennonite Church. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne J. and Geraldine Swartzendruber, of Pigeon, John E. and Gloria Swartzendruber, of Pigeon, and Richard D. and Nancy Swartzendruber, of Bad Axe; seven grandchildren, Brian (Tracy) Swartzendruber, Dawn (Christopher) Putnam, Holly Swartzendruber (fiancé, Douglas Miller), Steven Swartzendruber, Andrew Swartzendruber, Shawn Swartzendruber, and Corbin Swartzendruber; one great-grandson, John Christopher Putnam; a sister, Freda (James) Maust, of Bay Port; a brother, James (Arlene) Swartzendruber, of Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Swartzendruber, Marie Maust and Marjorie Maust. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2006, at the Pigeon River Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Tom Beachy, pastor, and the Rev. Luke Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. All visitation will be at the church. Times are from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday and from noon until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Friday, January 6, 2006 Ida Marie Graham Ida Marie Graham, 88, of Saginaw, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at Heartland Healthcare. Ida Marie Dast was born April 28, 1917 in Bay Port, the daughter of the late Henry and Ida Louise (Daus) Dast. She married William Graham on January 1, 1943. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1985. She was employed as a dietitian at St. Francis Home for many years. Ida is survived by four sons, William H. Graham, Long Island, New York, Robert J. Graham, Thomas E. Graham and Terry M. Graham, all of Saginaw; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Kathy Dumas; a sister and a brother. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2006, at W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 409 Adams Street. The Rev. C. William Weis will officiate with burial in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. as well as on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Memorial donation may be given to the Alzheimer's Association. Clayton Badgley Clayton Badgley, 83, of Kinde, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2006, at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe.
