Crawford Virginia A. Crawford, 86, of Cass City, died Saturday, September 30, 2006, in Northwood Meadows Medical Care Unit, Cass City, after a long illness. She was born August 16, 1920 in Detroit to Emile and Pearl (Bovee) Bluhm. She married Norman Robert Crawford on July 10, 1943 in Dearborn. He died January 20, 1991. Virginia was a school teacher, teaching second grade for Cass City and Deford schools. She was a member of Cass City First Presbyterian Church where she served as a liturgist, deacon and elder with the church session. She was a very active member and former officer of the First Presbyterian Woman's Association for many years. Virginia also was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the MEA. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Anita Crawford, of Phoenix, Arizona, Sharon (Alan) Maurer, of Bad Axe, Sharla Crow, of Sikeston, Missouri., Lora (Richard) Kulinski, of Deford, Manette Crawford, of Lincoln Park; 14 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Doris) Bluhm, of Belleville; a sister, Deloris Doria, of Plymouth; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, David Crawford; a granddaughter; and her brother, George Bluhm. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, in Cass City First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Blackburn officiating. Memorials may be made to Cass City First Presbyterian Church or American Cancer Society. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Crawford will be Alan Maurer, Chad Maurer, Keith Maurer, Rick Kulinski, Cory Kulinski and Kevin Kulinski. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the church. Carol O'Neil Carol O'Neil, 72, of Port Hope, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2006, at Port Huron Hospital. Born April 28, 1934 in Detroit, she was the daughter of the late William and Pansy (Bridge) Nelson. On April 17, 1952, Carol and Terrence O'Neil were united in marriage in East Detroit. Terrence preceded her in death on April 4, 1993. Carol loved living on the lake near Port Hope and enjoyed her flowers. Surviving is her son, Michael O'Neil and his wife, Tina, of Port Hope; two grandsons, Michael W. O'Neil and his wife, Chrissy, of Ubly, and Shawn O'Neil and his friend, Jessica, of Lansing; a sister, Patti Raica and her husband, Kevin, of Marine City. A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2006, in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, with the Fr. T.J. Fleming officiating. Burial will be in the New River Cemetery, Huron City. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Tuesday, October 3, 2006 Donald Kanaski Donald Kanaski, 69, of Kinde, passed away at his home. He was born January 17, 1937 to the late Louis and Gertrude (Baranski) Kanaski. He was a graduate of North Huron High School and a lifelong resident and farmer of Dwight Township. He is survived by two nephews, David (Iva) Pickerell, of Sharpsburg, Georgia, and Michael Pickerell, of Willis; and several cousins. A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. There will be a gathering at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday. Cremation burial to follow. Stephenson, 83, of Bad Axe, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was born December 29, 1922 in Harbor Beach to the late Ray and Myrtle Edna (Cummings) Williams. She married Robert Stephenson on May 19, 1943 in Kinde. He preceded her in death in 1996. Marie was a lifelong resident of Huron County and a member at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. She retired in 1982 after working many years at the Kritzmans Store in Bad Axe. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing, china painting, cards and her grandchildren. She is survived by one son, John G. (Karen) Stephenson, of York, Pennsylvania; three daughters, Edna Brahmer, of Westland, Sharon Hansen, of Bad Axe, and Rose Stephenson of Bad Axe; four brothers, John (Norma) Williams, of Columbiaville, Fred (Betty) Williams, of Garden City, Francis (Betty) Williams of Brooksville, Fla., Dale (Noreen) Williams, of Inkster; one sister, Maxine (Ray) Fischer, of Pinnebog; one sister- in-law, Loretta Williams, of St. Clair Shores; seven grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Catherine Williams; son-in-law, Ronald Brahmer; brothers, Earl and Clarence Williams; two sisters, June McNeil, and Jeraldine Williams; and one brother-in- law, Walter McNeil. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2006, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe with the Rev. Kenneth Lueke officiating. Memorials may be offered to the church building fund, Huron County Medical Care Facility, and Heartland Hospice. Ronald J. Swartz Mr. Ronald J. Swartz, 73, of Hazel Park, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2006, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Ronald was born October 4, 1932 in Bad Axe to the late Marshall and Bertha (Trepkowski) Swartz. He was a graduate of Minden City High School and of the Bay City Business College. He was a parishioner at St. Rita Catholic Church in Detroit where he was very involved in a variety of parish- related activities. Ronald is survived by two brothers, James M. Swartz and his wife, Patricia, of Taylor, John J. Swartz and his wife, Joyce, of Saginaw; and eight nieces and nephews. The funeral memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. The Rev. Jerzy Dobosz, pastor, will officiate. McColl, 99, of Cass City, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006, in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City, after a long illness. She was born July 9, 1907 at home in Greenleaf Township to Edward and Susan (Ballagh) Wright. She married Charles Cutler in 1929. Myrtle later married Hugh McColl on March 3, 1951 at home in Cass City. He died September 19, 1957. Myrtle was a member of Cass City First Baptist Church where, at one time, she taught Sunday school. She loved to cook and bake. Myrtle enjoyed sewing, gardening and canning. Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Frent, of Akron; grandchildren, Sherry (Gary) Wardynski, Mary Cutler, Melissa (Stan) Phillips, Edward Cutler, John Cutler, James Cutler; great grandchildren, Kevin Wardynski, Daven (Jennifer) Wardynski, Jason Wardynski, Marty (Colleen) Frent, Jeff (Tracy) Frent, Roberta (Bill) Pappenhagen, Daniel Odle, James Odle, Lori Beth Odle, Bradley Cutler, Christina Phillips, and Jason Phillips; 10 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Reithel, 95, of Sebewaing, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at Vadavilla Adult Foster Care Home near Unionville following a brief illness. She was born May 21, 1911 in Sebewaing, daughter of the late Ferdinand and Ida (Pobanz) Gremel. She was united in marriage to Nelson Reithel on September 26, 1942 in Sebewaing. He preceded her in death on October 21, 1983. Ruth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville and the ladies aid. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, gardening and especially enjoyed the Detroit Tigers. Surviving are two sons, Robert (Janet) Reithel, of Lapeer, and Dr. Curtis (Barbara) Reithel, Holmen, Wisconsin; children, Laura (Robert) Adkins, of Hazel Park, Ted Reithel, of Warren, Amy Reithel, of St. Louis, Missouri, Susan Reithel, of Onalaska, Wisconsin; three great grandchildren, Andrew, Rebecca and Sarah; three stepgrandchildren, Lisa, Lori and Tim; and four stepgreat grandchildren, Sawyer, Taylor, MacKenzie and Carter; and many nieces and nephews. Joseph Van Erp Mr. Joseph Van Erp, 70, of Bad Axe, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at Spectrum Health Blodgett of Grand Rapids. Joseph was born March 19, 1936 in Perham, Minnesota to the late Frederick "Fritz" and Helen (Boogaard) Van Erp. He married Carol Ann O'Neil on November 30, 1957 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. Joe was a graduate of Ubly High School. He was a lifelong farmer. He formerly was a parishioner at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. Joe currently was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe and had been for about 40 years. Joseph is survived by his wife, Carol Ann, of Bad Axe; one daughter, Denise Drake and her husband, Paul, of Dewitt; five sons, Daniel Van Erp and his wife, Kay, of Ubly, Michael Van Erp and his wife, Kim, of Williamston, Dr. Jeffery Van Erp M.D. and his wife, Gigi, of Grand Rapids, Rodney Van Erp and his wife, Michelle, of Ubly, David Van Erp and his wife, Beth, of Bad Axe; 18 grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Van Erp and his wife, Susan, of Bad Axe, William Van Erp and his wife, Kathleen, of Canton; six sisters, Marcella Campbell, of Bad Axe, Mary Kubacki, of Ubly, Dorothy Schmidt and her husband, Robert, of Cass City, Agnes Zawilinski and her husband, Walter, of Cass City, Florence Briolat and her husband, Norman, of Romeoville, Illinois, Evelyn Schadd and her husband, Earl, of Filion. Davis Lonnie H. Davis, 80, of Sanford, passed away Wednesday evening, October 4, 2006, at his residence. He was born April 22, 1926 in Matchwood where he was raised and educated. He was the son of the late Harry and Gertrude (Varcoe) Davis. Lonnie served in the U.S. Navy on LST 1076 during World War II. On July 13, 1946, Lonnie married the former Eleanor Marks in Bad Axe. He was a contractor in the Bad Axe area for many years and then he and his wife managed an apartment complex in the Flint area. Lonnie enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Eleanor; son, Jeffrey (Janice) Davis, of Ohio; daughters, Barbara (Paul) McGowan, of Waterford, Connie (Gale) Pretzer, of Hemlock, Judy (Steve) Earls, of Coleman; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ted) Wickman, Kimberly (Jim) Hernandez, Mark (Bree) Witczak, Jonathan Davis and his special friend, Gretchen, and her daughter, Zoe Spec.
