Boyle Helen Boyle, 89, of Port Austin, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born August 5, 1916 in Yale, daughter of the late John and Frances (Alpin) McAllen. She married William J. Boyle in 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1972. Helen is survived by seven children, William (Elizabeth) Boyle, of Port Austin, John (Irene) Boyle, of Redford, Michael (Connie) Boyle, of Florence, South Carolina, Terrence (Lori) Boyle, of Troy, Patricia (Thomas) Wendt, of Okemos, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Mullen, of West Bloomfield, and Brian (Roberta) Boyle, of West Bloomfield; 32 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph; two brothers, Thomas and James McAllen; and one sister, Patricia Lyons McSweeny. Helen moved to Port Austin after her husband's death in 1972. She was an Irish Catholic Democrat and devout mother. She worked as a secretary at the University of Detroit High School and at the University of Detroit. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin and of the Caseville Retirement Club. The family would like to thank the staff at the Huron County Medical Care Facility for their kindness and the excellent care they provided. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Pare, pastor. Burial will follow Thursday at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Mary Ann Micek Mary Ann Micek, 99, lifelong resident of Lincoln Township, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Courtney Manor Nursing Home. She was born October 29, 1906 to the late Paul and Frances (Balcer) Duda. She was united in marriage to Joseph Micek on September 16, 1929 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Parisville. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1963. Mary Ann was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rapson. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, cooking, baking and tending to her vegetable garden. Mary Ann is survived by a daughter, Genevieve B. Riley, of Novi; one son, John P. Micek, of Warner Robins, Georgia; four grandchildren, Paul, Sharon, Gerald and Susan; one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; and one sister, Gertrude Duda, of St. Clair Shores. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Rita Micek; one sister, Julia McIntyre; and two brothers, George and Daniel Duda. Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2006, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rapson, with Fr. James Carlson officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to Courtney Manor Nursing Home or Heartland Hospice. Marilyn L. Paul Marilyn L. Paul, 74, of Cottonwood, Arizona and formerly of Pigeon, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006, at the North Mountain Medical and Rehab Center in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born December 17, 1931 in Bad Axe, daughter of the late Floyd and Edith (Doyle) Jurgess. She graduated from Bad Axe High School. She was united in marriage to Jack H. Paul Sr. on March 18, 1950 in Angola, Indiana. He survives her. After moving to Arizona, Mrs. Paul worked in grocery stores at the Grand Canyon and Cottonwood, Arizona. She was a consummate homemaker, providing for her family by gardening as well as canning fruits and vegetables. She adored flowers, especially violets. She was a true "people person." She enjoyed talking with people and made friends easily, and was well liked by those with whom she worked. Marilyn was a lover of animals, almost always having one or more cats or dogs, or even a horse at home. The outdoors held a special attraction for her; she loved being in nature, whether it was for hunting, fishing, canoeing, ice skating, sitting in the sun or just being outside. She also had a wonderful sense of humor. She was willing to laugh at even the dumbest jokes or antics of her children. Chocolate was her passion, but her children were what she loved the most in life. In addition to her husband, Jack, to whom she had been married for more than 56 years, she is survived by five children, Diana Paul, of Cottonwood, Arizona, Jack (Wendy) Paul, of Lake Orion, Pattie (Jim) Hammett, of John Day, Oregon, Mary (Rick) Hinson, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Clare (Amy) Paul, of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren, Amanda, Natalie, and Evan Paul, and Hayley and Ashley Hinson; four sisters, Arleene Martin, Edith "Sally" (Dwight) Smith, June (Willie) Neiman, and Marion Holz; two brothers, Patrick (Margaret) Jurgess and Wilson (Patricia) Toner; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Jurgess and James Shanahan. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2006, at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon, with Rev. Raymond Orth officiating. Burial will be in Caseville Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, as well as at 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials for Mrs. Paul may be directed to the American Heart Association. Delores E. Smith Delores E. Smith, 69, of Sebewaing, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Vada Villa in Unionville with her family at her side under hospice care. Born January 29, 1937 in Sebewaing, she was the daughter of the late Rudolf and Ella (Albrecht) Ziel. On August 20, 1960, Delores and James Smith were united in marriage in St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2003. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Delores loved her family and friends and dearly loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and her flower garden. Delores is survived by her children: Diane Spencer and her husband, Larry, of Fairgrove, Scott Smith and his wife, Rose, of Sebewaing, Timothy Smith and his wife, Cindy, of Sebewaing, Cindy Sella and her husband, Rick, of Essexville, and Julie Louis and her husband, Tim, of Unionville. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Sarah, Katie and Emily Spencer, Jillian and Sean Smith, Jason and Jodi Smith, Lucas, Logan and Landon Sella, Olivia and Blair Louis; a brother, Robert (Lucille) Ziel, of Sebewaing; and sisters, Shirley (Harold) Deering, of Pigeon, Ellen (John) Tolloff, of Reese, Janet Deering, of Bay Port, and Ruth (Doug) Brenner, of Sebewaing. Viola Mary St. Charles Viola Mary St. Charles, 88, of Sebewaing and formerly of Sand Point and Detroit, died early Sunday morning, June 25, 2006, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe following a two-year illness. She was born March 4, 1918 in Osseneke, daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Kollien) Brilinski. She was married to Patrick C. St. Charles on May 3, 1941 at St. Anne's Rectory in Alpena. He preceded her in death on August 4, 1972. She moved to Detroit shortly after they were married and had been employed for more than 20 years at General Motors before retiring in 1971. She then moved to Sand Point and later to Sebewaing. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Surviving are a daughter, Samone St. Charles, of Mt. Clemens; two grandsons, Brian Foley, of Pontiac, and Shawn Foley, of Redford; three sisters, Florence Stilson, of Pigeon, Marian Sauve, of Imlay City, and Ruth (William) Dodge, of Sebewaing; and a brother, Roy Brilinski, of Florida. She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Edyvean; and a brother, Neal Brilinski. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2006, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. John Rakowski John Rakowski, 93, of Port Austin, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2006. A Memorial Mass will be conducted in honor of John Rakowski at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2006, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Friends are welcome to share with his family in celebration of his spirit. Joseph Raymond Tomlin Ray Tomlin, 79, of Deford, died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center Cooper Campus in Saginaw. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2006, at St. Pancratius Catholic Church of Cass City with the Rev. Steve Fillion officiating. Interment will take place in Novesta Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the church. Lena Eliza Tuckey Lena E. Tuckey, 79, of Cass City, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Tendercare Nursing Facility in Cass City. She was born May 1, 1927 in Gagetown to Wallace and Eliza (Evans) Morse. She married Dean J. Tuckey on March 2, 1945 in Cass City. He died July 4, 2001. Lena worked at Sommers Bakery for many years. She attended Sutton Sunshine United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and gardening. Lena loved spending time with her grandchildren. Lena is survived by her daughters, Susan M. Lynn, of Sainte Genevieve, Missouri, Carole (Harmon) Dillard, of Easley, South Carolina; grandchildren, Laura, Luke (Christina), Kana, BrieAnn, Zachary, and Alexander; great grandchildren, Romelo and Markus; sisters, Margaret Lounsbury, of Cass City, Ida May Wiles, of Cass City, and Ruth Cutler, of Saginaw; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2006, in Cass City Missionary Church, with Pastor Robert Sweeney and James Halsey officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery in Cass City. Monday, July 03, 2006 Betty Jane Thomas Betty Jane (Fowler) Thomas, 74, of Flint, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Betty was born February 28, 1932 in Flushing and was the daughter of Robert and Ruth Griffith. She married Robert Fowler in 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1988. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Betty worked as a MLPN for more than 20 years. Surviving are three children, Nancy Ingman, of Flint, James Fowler, of Clio, Lorraine Keller and her husband, David, of Bad Axe; six grandchildren, Denise Thompson and her husband, David, Stephen Ingman Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, James, Amy and Brian Fowler and Kimmy Keller; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Cato and husband, John; brother, James Griffith; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Jack Fowler, and her best friend, Delores Carpenter. Gibbard Sr. Carl A. Gibbard Sr., 67, of Bad Axe, passed away Monday, July 3, 2006, at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born December 16, 1938 in Tyre, son of the late Thomas and Nina (Gruber) Gibbard. He married Helen Jean Talaski on January 31, 1959 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Jean Gibbard, of Bad Axe; two sons, Carl G. (Nancy) Gibbard, of Bad Axe, Gerald T. (Diane) Gibbard, of Bad Axe; two daughters, Kathy (Robert) Leslie, of Decker, Karen (Tim) Donovan, of Columbia, Tennessee; one brother, Evans (Lillian) Gibbard, of Ubly; two sisters, Mildred Wilson, of Cass City, Ruth Ann Regal, of Plymouth; 12 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren; and his dog and best friend, Bud, of Bad Axe. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Gibbard; and one sister, Donna Barber. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2006, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Thursday, July 6, 2006 – No obituaries reported Friday, July 7, 2006 Dorothy M. Herman Dorothy M. Herman, 91, of Sebewaing, passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 5, 2006. Born on September 23, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ida (Lafave) Stamnitz. She was united in marriage to Edgar Herman for 25 years and he preceded her in death on May 26, 1983. Dorothy was a retired employee of Sebewaing Industries after working there for 30 years. She is survived by her step-children, Marie Kindler, of Sebewaing, Ronald Herman and his wife, Catherine, of Bay City, and Michael Herman and his wife, Deborah, of Sebewaing; and many nieces, nephews, step- grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Charles, in 1971; and two sisters, Elsie Zindler and Beatrice Stamnitz; and two brothers, Herman and Norman Stamnitz. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory, Bay City. A memorial service will take place in August. Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 1
