Collick, 66, of Delaware Township near Forestville, passed away Friday, June 2, 2006, in Port Huron Hospital. Born in Ferndale on August 10, 1939, she was the daughter of Evelyn (Greenlee) Pellow and the late Archie Lidbom. On October 25, 1958, Judy and Garfield Collick were united in marriage in Clawson. Judy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church near Forestville and was a retired volunteer of the Delaware Township Fire Department in Charleston, being one of the first female firefighters in the Thumb area. She also was a former employee of the Volz IGA in Minden City and was a former member of the Minden City Bowling League. Judy and Gar enjoyed traveling around the country in their motor home. She is survived by her husband, Gar Collick, of Delaware Township; a daughter, Kathy Ambler and her husband, Richard, of Bremerton, Washington; a son, Bruce Collick and his wife, Mary, of Avoca; her mother, Evelyn Pellow, of Harbor Beach; five grandchildren, William, Timothy, Christopher, Kristy and Rebecca; sister, Mary Jo Arnold and her husband, Stanley, of Westland. Funeral services for Judith Collick will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Forestville, with the Rev. Richard Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A firemen's memorial service will be at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Ramsey Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. Leo Zinger Mr. Leo Guy Zinger, 86, Chairman of the Ruth State Bank, passed away Friday morning, June 2, 2006, at the United Hospice Residence of Marlette with his wife and family at his side. He was born October 24, 1919 in Ruth to the late Joseph W. and M. Adele (Tschirhart) Zinger. He married Geraldine Suida on November 25, 1944 at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. Leo attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School through the eighth grade. He graduated in 1937 from St. Jerome High School in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. He also attended the University of Detroit where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, Business Administration Fraternity. He served as a military intelligence officer in World War II in the Air Corps of the U.S. Army in the Aleutian Campaign. In 1946, he joined the Citizens Bank of Seaman & Wahla & Company of Ruth where his father was vice president and cashier. Leo became president of the bank in 1953 when the name changed to Ruth State Bank. He was a member of the Michigan Bankers Association. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. He also was a former Independent Insurance Agent. Leo was a lifelong parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth where he served on the cemetery board and was a past president and member of the school board. He was a member of the Huron County Planning Authority. He was a charter member of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council No. 3823, the Parisville V.F.W. Post No. 5740 and the Burhans Hagedon American Legion Post No. 197 of Harbor Beach. Leo had been a member of the Verona Hills Country Club for 48 years. He was a toastmaster for many area functions. Leo and his wife, Geraldine, wintered in Florida for 25 years at the Six Lakes Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and playing cards. Leo is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geraldine "Gerry," of Ruth; his children, Douglas Zinger, of Naperville, Illinois, David Zinger, of Denver, Colorado, Paul Zinger, of Grand Blanc, Judy Zinger-Weiss and her husband, Marvin Weiss, of San Diego, Califfornia, and Joseph Zinger and his wife, Vicky, of Ruth; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Zinger and her husband, Chris Stockner, Heather and Laura Zinger, Emily and Max Weiss, Megan, Kristin and John Zinger; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor, Margaret and Mary Zinger. Leo was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, George, Joseph and John Zinger. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2006, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. The Rev. Thomas McNamara, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the church. There was a Knights of Columbus rosary on Saturday, and a parish vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Monday, June 5, 2006 Donald K. Harris Donald K. Harris, 68, of Verona, died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw. Mr. Harris was born June 24, 1937, son of the late Fred and Edythe (Mattice) Harris. Donald was united in marriage to Ingrid Vauck on January 28, 1959 in Berlin, Germany. He entered the U.S. Army in 1956 and served in Alaska, Germany, and Vietnam (twice) earning several awards before retiring in 1978. He was a self-employed painter for many years and at one time worked as a cook at Ubly Heights Country Club. Donald enjoyed yard work, cooking and watching all sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and just spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Ingrid; three sons, Tim Harris and his wife, Petra Maria, of Bad Axe, Michael Harris and his special friend, Tina, of Cass City, Robert Harris, of Bad Axe; one daughter, Marissa Harris, of Bad Axe; and ten grandchildren; six brothers, Willet (Joyce) Harris, of Bad Axe, Leonard (Lee) Harris, of Ubly, Charles Harris, of Bad Axe, Robert (Louise) Harris, of Bad Axe, Fred (Marjorie) Harris, of Kinde, and James (Karen) Harris, of Texas; two sisters, Lucile Anderson, of AuGres, and Gloria (Gene) Cook, of Cass City; several nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Ray Szyczewski; one cousin, Eldora Richardson, of Florida. Peyerk, 44, of Elkton, died Thursday morning, June 1, 2006, at his home. He was born April 5, 1962 in Bad Axe to the late Leonard and Rosalia (Jock) Peyerk. After graduating from Laker High School, he went to college for a year. He lived in the Elkton area until 1991 when he took a position with Schwann Ice Cream transferring him to Temperance. He and his family returned to the area in 1996 and he received his residential contractors license. A short time later, he started his own company, Versatile Building, doing new construction and remodeling. During that time he also worked at Huron Casting and was a part-time installer for Direct TV. He attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Sebewaing and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 8582 Unionville-Sebewaing. Gary enjoyed woodworking and making crafts. He truly loved spending time with his family and friends, most especially his three children. Surviving are his children, Alex, Alivia, and Mason, all at home; four brothers, Dennis (Lori) Peyerk, Blaine (Leann) Peyerk, and Steve Peyerk, all of Elkton, and Mark Peyerk, of Gagetown; five sisters, Christine Peyerk, of Elkton, Barbara Peyerk, of Elmer, Tami Peyerk, of Blue Ridge, Georgia, Betty (Roy) Schave and Ellen (Randy) Graves, both of Elkton, and 15 nieces and nephews. Tuesday, June 6, 2006 Lena Baumert Lena Baumert, 97, of Los Alametos, California and formerly of Ubly, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006. She was born April 28, 1909 in Kinde to the late Archie and Elizabeth (Sharrette) Bouverette of Kinde. Lena was united in marriage with Nicholas Gorang on September 7, 1929 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Kinde. Nick died April 22, 1947 in an auto/train accident at the railroad crossing adjacent to the REA Electric Plant in Ubly. She married Anthony Baumert in June 1955 in Long Beach, California. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1992. Lena is survived by her sons, Ronald (Genevieve) Gorang, of Modesto, California, and Harold (Faith) Gorang, of Long Beach, California; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at the Colfax Cemetery. Beuncy "Ben" Fisher Ben Fisher, 81, of Meade Township, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2006, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born February 23, 1925 in Hume Township, son of the late Alex and Catherine (Miller) Fisher. Ben married Alice Witherspoon on April 7, 1951, and together they farmed and raised six children. Ben and Alice lived in the Meade Township and Pinnebog area all their married life and have spent many winters in Zephyrhills, Florida, playing golf and spending time with family members. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was active in the VFW in Kinde and the American Legion in Caseville for many years. His passion was farming and playing with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Ben is survived by his wife, Alice; six children, Arlice Lackie, of Elkton, Allen (Judy) Fisher, of Pigeon, Sherry (John) Loutzenhiser, of Croswell, Tim (Kathy) Fisher, of Filion, Dinah (Dave) Rasmussen, of Elkton, and Leroy (and fiancee Ruby) Fisher, of Clermont, Florida; seven grandchildren, John Lackie, Kristy (Tyson) Phillips, Brock Heck, Lisa Fisher, Alan Fisher, Alice Fisher and Tiffany Loutzenhiser; and four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Maddison, Colton and Reese. Ben also is survived by four brothers, Ray, Tom, Bob, and Clarence; and two sisters, Virginia and Bernice. Ben was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley, John and Alex; and four sisters, Irene, Dorothy, Delores, and infant, Rose. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2006, at St. Felix Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. There will be a vigil at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. John Rakowski John Rakowski, 93, of Port Austin, passed away peacefully in Monroe on Saturday, June 3, 2006, surrounded by his loving family. He retired as detective sergeant from the Detroit Police Department. He later was employed as security chief for Hudson's, Northland, and the German Consulate in Detroit. He and his late wife, Virginia, owned and operated the Harbor House Restaurant in Port Austin for many years. He was an avid golfer and gardener. He doted on his family and blessed us with cherished memories and lessons of life and love. He is sadly missed by daughter, Susan (Dennis); grandchildren, Jeffrey (Constance) Huff, Michael (Linda) Huff and Charlotte Huff; great- grandchildren, Ryan, Rachel and Dana Huff. He was preceded in death by Virginia, dear wife for 55 years. A private memorial service will be conducted in Port Austin at a later date. Wednesday, June 7, 2006 Lorena May Canonigo Habana Lorena May (Canonigo) Habana, 74, of Port Austin, died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at her home following an extended illness. She was born December 27, 1931 in Ozamiz City, Philippines, daughter of the late Isabelo and Eusebia (Lao) Canonigo. She married Leo Degario Agabe Habana on June 1, 1961 in Manila, Philippines. Lorena was a high school math teacher in Guam and later became an assistant principal. Lorena is survived by her husband, Leo; six children, Nelson Canonigo Habana, Norman (Peace) Canonigo Habana, Neuman Canonigo Habana, Noreen (Scott Whipple) Canonigo Habana, Noelyn Canonigo Habana, and Nathan Canonigo Habana; four grandchildren, Liam, Kai, Caroline and Clarice; one brother, Isabelo Jr. Lao Canonigo; and two sisters, Nile Edang and Betty Rosal. Cremation will take place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. There will be a memorial service in the future taking place in the Philippines. Arrangements are being handled by the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. George J. Hunt George J. Hunt, 82, of Pigeon, died Tuesday morning, June 6, 2006, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born May 2, 1924 in Addison to the late George and Fannie (Wiggens) Hunt. On October 11, 1945, he was united in marriage to Irene S. Farnum in Dryden. George graduated from the General Motors Tech Center in Warren in 1957 and had been employed as a parts and service manager at the Pontiac dealer in Almont. In 1969, they moved to Huron County where he worked as a builder in the Kinde area. In 1970, he bought the Ubly Lumber Yard, operating it until 1983 when he sold it and retired. He enjoyed woodworking and making crafts, and his specialty was birdhouses of all kinds. Surviving are his wife, Irene; three children, Roger (Nancy) Hunt, of Ubly, Kathy (Leonard) Murawski, of Sterling Heights, and Sheila (Dave) McBride, of Pigeon; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Viola (Carroll) Poling and Mildred Poling, both of Florida. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Burial will be in Gilmore Cemetery in Farwell. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Wingett, 90, of Caseville, died at his home Tuesday, June 6, 2006, while under hospice care. He was born June 6, 1916 in Cherry Box, Missouri to the late John and Nellie (Cockrum) Wingett. Richard married Rose Mary Danner on August 7, 1937 in Edina, Missouri. Together they moved to Leonard in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired in 1974 from National Twist Drill in Rochester and moved to Caseville the following year. He was a member of the Caseville Eagles #3690. He enjoyed tinkering and working about his home. Richard is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rose; son, Rodney (Patricia), of Utica; and daughter, Rama (Tony) Bruce, of Caseville; grandchildren, Tony, Natalie, Rich, Nikki, Robbie, Tracie, Ryan, Rhett, and Dustin; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Leroy (Betty), of Lake Orion; and sister, Joanne, of Pontiac. He was preceded in death by his son, Roland; and brothers, James, John and Clarence. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville with the Rev. (Sosnoski) Horetski, 93, of Port Austin, passed away Monday, June 5, 2006, in Tucson, Arizona after a long illness. She was born August 7, 1912 to Frank and Anna (Cheslock) Sosnoski. She married Andrew Horetski on October 26, 1932 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dwight. Surviving are two sons, Ronald and Ruth (McCarthy) Horetski, of Sun City, California, and Daniel and Janis (Steinman) Horetski, of Tucson, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Gail, Ron, Leigh, Angela, Daniel, Matthew, Jason, and Michael; five great-grandchildren, Jim, Josh, Victoria, Tyler, and Hunter; three sisters, Rose Andreski, Josephine Andreski, Lottie Goretski; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Horetski; two sons, Robert and Andrew; one daughter, Elaine; five sisters, Sophia, Lucille, Harriet, Violet, and Vera; two brothers, Stanley and Pete. He owned McGraw Travel of Farmington Hills for 30 years and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of S.K.A.L. and the Lions Club and served as treasurer of Thumb Ambulance. He was the loving husband of Ann; devoted father of Susan Birmingham, David (Sherrill), Jim Marilyn), Steve (Bobi), and Robert Andy (Lisa); grandfather of 12; brother of S. Tenney (Nancy); and also survived by an extended family of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at A. H. Victoria Irene Marshall Victoria Irene Marshall, 60, of Caro, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at Caro Community Hospital following a long illness. She was born June 30,1945 in Detroit, Michigan to Charles and Ellen (Buchanan) Kerns. She married Theodore N. Marshall in Detroit. Victoria was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Detroit. She enjoyed several types of crafts. Victoria is survived by her husband, Theodore; children: Ed Kolc, of Livonia, Chris Kolc, of Pennsylvania, Kelly (Mike) Warner, of Bridgeport, Phil Kolc, of Flat Rock, Shannon Kolc, of Toledo, Ohio; step-son Bobby (Cheri) Marshall, of Taylor; 20 grandchildren; mother, Ellen Gale, of Canton, Ohio; sisters; Marie, Shirley, Connie, Margaret and Frances.
