Sunday, February 5, 2006 Julia Vera Wyman Julia Vera Wyman, 92, of Caseville and formerly of Saginaw and Palmetto, Florida, died Saturday, February 4, 2006, at home under the care of Heartland Hospice. Julia was born July 9, 1913 in Simsbury, Connecticut to the late John and Antonette (Salmonvich) Scepanski. The family moved to Caseville in 1921. Later she moved to Detroit and met her husband Jack Don Wyman. They married on February 5, 1934 in Dearborn. Jack preceded her in death on May 30, 1980. In 1947, they moved to Saginaw. Julia worked at a pharmacy and then as a beautician until she retired. Upon retirement, she moved to Florida. In 1996, she returned to Caseville. Julia was a talented crafter and artist. She enjoyed basket weaving, sewing, quilting, and china and acrylic painting. She had donated many of her quilts to nursing homes. She was a member of the Pioneer Club and the Elks Club in Saginaw. She will be remembered as a loving mother, friend and neighbor. Julia is survived by her daughter, Julia Maxine Wyman, of Las Cruces, New Mexico; grandchildren, Wendy, Dean, Scott, Danielle and Jacqueline; nine great- grandchildren; and brothers, Tony and Frank Scepanski, of Caseville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, son, Don, grandson, Wesley Gushaw, and sisters, Ann Kincel, Mae Dove, and Phyllis Lillian Cormendy. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville with Chaplin Karen Bouverette, of Heartland Hospice, officiating. Darlene Erna Bruske Mrs. Darlene Erna Bruske, 74, of Caseville and formerly of Saginaw, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2006, at HealthSource, Saginaw, after a lengthy illness. Darlene Erna May Stinson was born September 24, 1931 in Saginaw. She married Richard Samuel Bruske on May 7, 1949. He survives her. She also leaves one son and three daughters, Richard Daniel Bruske, of Kawkawlin; Donna Jean Krenz, of Saginaw, Kathryn Fay Zimmerman, of Bon Aire, Georgia, Patricia Jo Bruske, of Hemlock; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Fay Ellen Nelson, of Saginaw; and several nieces and nephews. Christina Ann Eilers Christina Ann Eilers, 81, of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2006, at her home. She was born on July 24, 1924 to the late August and Mary Kubacki. She was united in marriage to the late Alvin Eilers on February 23, 1946 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Smith Corners. Christina was a resident of Bad Axe and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She worked in healthcare for many years at Sunny Acres Nursing Home, Huron Medical Center, and Tendercare Home Health. After her retirement, she loved being with and traveling to see her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed polka music, gardening, delivering Meals on Wheels, senior bus trips, bingo, and assisting the Special Olympics as a bowling partner. Chris is survived by four daughters, Barbara Eilers, of New Orleans; Mary (Robert) Corbett, of Lansing, and their children, Erin and William; Pauline (James) Myler, of Gaylord, and their children, James, Christian, Aaron, Rebekah, and Emily; and Donna Falardeau, of Waterford, and her daughter, Abigail; and seven sons, Donald (Gay) Eilers, of Port Huron, and their children, James (Deborah), Eric, and Elizabeth (Jason) Heffner; Alvin (Lynne) Eilers, of Traverse City and their daughter, Laura (Anthony) Tridico; Charles (Sue) Eilers, of Millington, and their children, Brian, Michelle, and Pam (Travis) Cooper; David (Jeanne) Eilers, and their children, Chris (Laura), Katherine, and Matthew; Michael (Dianne) Eilers, of Bad Axe, and their children, Noelle, Marcy, Ryan (Frances), Rory Eilers, and Danny Dekoske; Steven (Sheila) Eilers, of Sanger, Texas, and their children, Patrick, Stephen, Meghan, and Leif; and Harold (Angela), of Amarillo, Texas, and children, Jenny, Sam, Alex, Holly, Hannah, and Haley. Christina's grandchildren have blessed her with nine great-grandchildren, Addison and Conner Eilers; John and Anthony Tridico; Adriana, Kate, and Travis Cooper; and Freddie Santiago and Tyler Eilers. (Potts) Houlihan, 80, of Southfield and formerly of Detroit and Forestville, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2006, at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Born in Port Huron on May 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Marion B. (Haviland) Potts. Marion enjoyed traveling, organic gardening, and was a very kind and giving person. Surviving are her children, Colleen Houlihan and Dennis Houlihan; a brother, Charles Potts; a sister, Celestine "Sally" Mastracci and her husband, Hugo; and several nieces and nephews. Lavine, 89, of Ubly, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2006, at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. Cass was born on March 4, 1916 in Port Austin to the late Stanley and Margaret (Horetski) Lewandowski. He married Eleanor Wisbiski on October 21, 1944 in Detroit. She preceded him in death on March 12, 1986. He was a graduate of the Kelly Country School. He lived in Detroit for 15 years before moving back to the Ubly area in 1946. He was a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly where he served as a former usher. He enjoyed farming, hunting, gardening, watching TV, and visiting with family and friends. Cass is survived by one son, Larry Lavine and his wife, Kathryn, of Ubly; three daughters, Patricia Jakubiec and her husband, Tony, of Taylor; Shirley Galarno, of Ubly, Diane Spencer and her husband, Paul, of Millington; nine grandchildren, Tony Jakubiec Jr., Tonia and Paul Church, Chad Lavine, Krista Lavine, Dallas Galarno and his wife, Michelle, Jody Galarno and her husband, Tim, Justin Galarno; Paula Muter, Josh Muter; one great grandson, Kellan Lavine; seven sisters, Celice Meyer and her husband, Pete, of Warren, Bernice Kalkulak and her husband, Joseph, of Sterling Heights, Irene Osentoski and her husband, Norman, of Sterling Heights, Thresa Nowak, of Warren, Agnes Jimpkoski, of Port Austin, Eleanor Kalka and her husband, Simon, of Sterling Heights; two brothers, Sylvester Leavine and his wife, Josephine, of Sterling Heights, Frank Leavine, of Kinde. Bethanny Kay Mullins Our precious Bethanny Kay Mullins was called home by her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 31, 2006. Bethanny is survived by her parents, Robard and Amanda Mullins, of Ubly; her sister, Kylee, and brother, Cavalier, both of Ubly; maternal grandparents, Sherry Bensinger, of Ubly, and Russell (John) Andrews, of Barbeau; paternal grandparents, Patricia and Frank Special, of Nevada; maternal great- grandmother, Alice Andrews, of Barbeau; special aunt, Kristina Andrews and uncle, Ethan Andrews, of Ubly; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by one uncle, Corey Andrews; and great-grandparents, Bruce and Onnalee Bensinger, and Clarence (Bob) Andrews. A memorial service for Bethanny took place on Saturday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Gregory R. Packer Gregory R. Packer, 58, of Harbor Beach, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2006, at his home following a brief illness. Born in Flint on December 22, 1947, he was the son of Eleanor (Prettie) Packer and the late William Packer Jr. Greg was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving during the Vietnam War. Greg and Roberta Racknor were united in marriage on November 15, 1980 in Lapeer. He was a retired employee of General Motors, working for 17 years at Buick City in Flint. Greg also was a charter captain in Harbor Beach for more than 20 years, charting the Great Escapes Charters. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 197 of Harbor Beach, the Knights of Columbus, OLLH Council of Harbor Beach and was the former President of the Steelheaders of Huron County. Surviving are his wife, Roberta, of Harbor Beach; three sons, Gregory W. Packer and his wife, Jennifer, of Germany, William J. Packer, of Grosse Isle, Todd Packer and his wife, Jackie, of Lakeport; seven grandchildren, Justise, Mitchell, Madison, Hannah, Amber, Nadija and Nathaniel. Also surviving are his mother, Eleanor Packer, of Bradenton, Florida; and a sister-in-law, Jernice (Jack) Foe; his dog, Buck; a brother, William (Faye) Packer, of Blarsville, Georgia; and a sister, Eleanor (Dave) Harte, of Lansing. Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach is handling the arrangements. Verla E. Schmidt Verla E. Schmidt, 92, of Pigeon, passed away at the Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Born in Gagetown on May 15, 1913, she was the daughter of the late John Paul and Helen (Schutt) Wachner. Verla was united in marriage to Peter B. Schmidt on June 15, 1940 in Detroit. They retired to Caseville in 1972. Peter preceded her in death on December 21, 2005. Verla loved her husband of 65 years, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved and excelled in crocheting and knitting and created many precious keepsakes for her family. Some of her crocheted works will be on display at the Bad Axe Historical Museum and at the Octagon Barn as a testimonial to her skills. Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Kuzma and her husband, Robert, of Holly; a son, Kurt Schmidt and his wife, Karen, of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Keith Schmidt, Kristin (John) Anderson, Todd Kuzma, and Jill (Chris) Lake; great grandchildren, Isabel, Gloria and Alexandria; one sister, Lorraine Beatty, of Florida. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Wachner, and three sisters, Eileen Schmidt, Milda Clara, and Selma Purnell. Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City and burial will take place at St. Francis Cemetery, Pigeon, at a later time. Catherine Seidl Mrs. Catherine Seidl, 89, of Ruth, went home to her Lord, on Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at Hurley Medical Center in Flint due to injuries she sustained in a house fire. Catherine was born on June 5, 1916 in Winnipeg, Canada. She married Paul Seidl on June 15, 1936 at St. John Catholic Church in Detroit. He preceded her death on January 22, 1998. She was a graduate of a country school. She farmed with her husband and family. She was famous for Catherine's paczki. She was happy being a service to others. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross for many years, working at blood drives. She also volunteered at the Harbor Beach Long Term Care. She was a parishioner at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth all her life and was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Christian Mothers. She also participated in many church functions and school activities. Catherine is survived by three daughters, Audrey Messing, of Ruth, Constance "Connie" Booms and her husband, Richard, of Bad Axe, Geralyn Leatherbury and her husband, Philip, of Yorktown, Virginia; one son, Dr. David Seidl and his wife, Annie, of Hastings; 19 grandchildren, Brian Roggenbuck and his wife, Susie, Scott Roggenbuck and his wife, Cindy, Dean Roggenbuck, Renee Chumbler and her husband, David, Dr. Leon Roggenbuck and his wife, Amy, Jeffrey Messing and his wife, Tammy, Barbara Messing and her husband, Duane, Wade Messing and his wife, Mary, Rebecca Friend and her husband, Lee, Eve Messing, Ellen Messing and her fiancé, Wes Guigar, Michelle Macari and her husband, John, Darin Booms and his wife, Sharon, Rob Booms and his wife, Catie, Ryan Booms and his wife, Lori, Haley Seidl, Paula Biggs and her husband, Scott, Sean Leatherbury, and Eric Leatherbury; 32 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Adoline Briggs. Heintz, 83, of Pigeon, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon following a brief illness. She was born May 8, 1922 in Pigeon and was the daughter of the late Dan and Katherine (Zehr) Christner. Emma Christner and George Heintz were united in marriage in 1943 in Pigeon. George preceded her in death in February of 1983. She was an active member in the Evangelife Assembly of God Church in Bad Axe and was a Sunday School teacher for more than 40 years and was a member of the WBCs. Emma enjoyed visiting with her friends and family and loved to bake and help those in need. Emma is survived by her six sons, Robert Christner and his wife, Rosemary, of Brown City, George Heintz, Jr. and his wife, Pat, of Marlette, Rich Heintz and his wife, Birdie, of Pigeon, Mike Heintz and his wife, Peg, of Pigeon, Tom Heintz and his wife, Diane, of Brooksville, Florida, and Pete Heintz and his wife, Carol, of Bad Axe; 27 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Chris Heintz, in 2003, and by a sister, Viola Siemen; and four brothers, Clayton, Floyd, Orie, and Walter Christner. Bonnie Rumptz Mrs. Bonnie Mae (Franzel) Rumptz, 63, of Snover, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2006, at her residence under hospice care after a long battle with cancer. She was born August 19, 1942 in Argyle, daughter of Edward and June (Smith) Franzel. She married Wayne Rumptz on August 5, 1961 in Bad Axe. Bonnie attended the Tamerack Country School, St. John Catholic School and Deckerville High School. She worked at Dott Manufacturing of Deckerville. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle. She loved to travel, going to the casinos, especially in Las Vegas, and playing the lotto. She truly enjoyed taking care of her husband, family and friends. Bonnie is survived by her husband of 45 years, Wayne Rumptz, of Snover; two sisters, Penny Guigar and her husband, Arthur, and Barbara Guigar and her husband, Robert; one brother, John Franzel, all of Ubly; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Henry Franzel, on July 28, 1982, and June Virginia Franzel, on March 28, 2001; one nephew, Todd Guigar; two great-nephews, Corey Osentowski and Raime Osantowski. Joe Alan Williams Joe Alan Williams, 51, of Bad Axe and former resident of Flora, Illinois, died Saturday, February 5, 2006, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. He was born January 27, 1955 in Olney, Illinois to Mildred Williams and the late Haden Williams. Joe enjoyed karaoke, watching wrestling, and bowling in the Special Olympics. He is survived by his mother, Mildred Williams, of Bad Axe; four brothers, James (Alice) Williams, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Gene Williams, of San Francisco, California, Herb (Connie) Williams, of Bad Axe, Burl (Lorna) Williams, of Ozark, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Williams. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home of Bad Axe. Memorials may be made to Special Olympics. Tuesday, February 7, 2006 Jamie L. Arntz Jamie L. "Sham" Arntz, 31, of Harbor Beach, passed away at his home on Monday, February 6, 2006. Born in Harbor Beach on October 4, 1974, he was the son of Debra Arntz. Jamie was a graduate of Harbor Beach Community Schools in the class of 1993 and was an employee of Thumb Industries. He enjoyed listening to music and singing and working on the internet. He loved his family and friends and life. Jamie is now in heaven singing with the angels. He is survived by his mother, Debra L. Arntz and her fiancée, Phil Taylor, of Harbor Beach; grandmother, Patricia Arntz, of Harbor Beach; aunts and uncles, Rick and Joan Arntz, Karen and Pat White, Ken Arntz and his fiancee, Dorothy Cole, Dennis Arntz, and Chris and Laura Arntz, all of Harbor Beach; one great- aunt, Dorothy O'Rouke, of Grand Blanc; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lloyd J. Kuhl Lloyd J. Kuhl, 77, of Sebewaing, died Monday, February 6, 2006, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born January 20, 1929 in Fairhaven Township, son of the late Edward and Leah (Braun) Kuhl. He was united in marriage to Belva A. Dorland on May 8, 1953 in Cass City. Lloyd grew up on a dairy farm near Sebewaing and was later employed at Gettel John Deere in Sebewaing for 40 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of Kilmanagh United Methodist Church where he served in many offices; was a member of the Farm Bureau; was a 4-H leader; co-founded the Huron County Jr. Livestock Association, served on the Agricultural Advisory Boards of both Bay-Arenac and Tuscola Skill Centers; also the Sebewaing and U.S.A. FFA Advisory Board. He was the 1951 Golden Gloves Boxing State Champion. He enjoyed his family, hunting, playing cards, local sports and especially enjoyed lively conversation and a debate on any level. Surviving are his wife, Belva; three sons, two daughters and their spouses, Melvin (Margie) Kuhl, Philip (Beth) Kuhl, all of Sebewaing, Rodney (Kathie) Kuhl, of Chesaning, Susanne (Bob) Niedrich, of Birch Run, Sheila (Jeff) Gallow, of Morrow, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan (Heather), Joshua, Erica, Jonathan (Tara), James (Hallie), Dawn (Jason), Emily, Brad, Sarah, Laura, Leah, and Lexi; three great-grandchildren, Avery, Brooklynn and Aidan; three sisters, Alberta Cagle, of Taylor, Doris Quick, of Bay Port, Sylvia (Doug) Wheeling, of Rochester Hills; four sisters-in- law, Ileen Kuhl, of Mayville, Isabel Kuhl, of Berkley, Lorrine Kuhl, and Marian Kuhl, both of Sebewaing; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jennifer; twin infant grandsons, Aaron and Adam; five brothers, Harry, Bernhard, Roland, Willard and Bruce Kuhl; and one sister, Wilma Beyer. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2006, at the Kilmanagh United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jeffrey Maxwell will officiate with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sebewaing. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. He will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Krug, 83, affectionately called "Twiggy" by family and friends, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at the Huron Care Facility in Bad Axe following a long illness. She was born on March 30, 1922 in Sheridan Township, the daughter of the late James and Amelia (Decker) Walker. Blanche and John E. Krug were united in marriage in 1943 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Ubly. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage. She enjoyed being with her family and friends. Her interests were writing poetry, ceramics, and playing cards. Blanche "Twiggy" is survived by her husband, John E. Krug "Pappy Jack", of Bad Axe; two daughters, Carol A. (Gerald) Hart, of Bad Axe, and Estella (Connie) Tyll, of Winter Haven, Florida; four grandchildren, Jayme (Lauren) Hart, of New York, Stacy Hart, of Chicago, Mickie (Tracy) Urquhart, of Virginia, and John (Sharon) Tyll, of Colorado; four great-grandchildren, Alicia Urquhart, Alivia Urquhart, Keegan Tyll, and Lankin Tyll; three sisters, Luella Valley, Lila Maurer, and Marion (Bill) McQueen; and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Gertrude Garety, Edanna Sweeney, and Elizabeth "Betty" Sparling. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2006, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility Chapel on the first floor. Fr. TJ Fleming will preside. MacAlpine Funeral Home of Bad Axe is handling the arrangements. Visitation will be from noon to the time of the service at 1 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Friday, February 10, 2006 Anthony R. Stout Mr. Anthony "Tony" R. Stout, 43, of Madison Heights and formerly of Ubly, passed away Monday, February 6, 2006, at his residence. He was born on February 22, 1962 in Highland Park to John and Joann (Karolinski) Stout. He married Lisa Snow in 1983 in Bad Axe. Tony attended Ubly High School. He was employed at Key Welder Corporation. He worked for the Ward Brothers Corporation for 13 years. Tony is survived by one son, Anthony Stout, of Macomb; two daughters, Amber Stout, of Macomb, and Sarah Mae Stout, of Madison Heights; special friend, Shelly Wilfong; his parents, John and Joann Stout, of Ubly; his brothers and sisters, Pam Sweeney and her husband, Lynn, of Ubly, Greg Stout and his wife, Cathy, of Marlette, Monica Leitch and her special friend, Ron Field, of Pigeon, Sandy Ciolek and her husband, Kevin, of Unionville, Steve Stout and his wife, Theresa, of Carsonville, Mike Stout, of Ubly, nieces and nephews, Tracy Lipskey and her husband, Kevin, Keith Sweeney and his special friend, Crystal Gray, Gregory Stout and his wife, Yumi, Brian Stout, Elizzabeth Leitch, Jenn Osentoski and special friend, Scott Aviles, Brandon Osentoski and special friends, Amanda Carlton, Nickolas Stout; great-nieces and nephews, Olivia and Parker Lipskey, and Yudai and Kodai Stout.
