Badgley, 83, of Kinde, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2006, at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born on May 19, 1922 in Grindstone City, son of the late Harvey and Nettie (Perdue) Badgley. He married Betty Toner on September 20, 1950 in Port Austin. He drove truck for the ST & H Oil Company for 35 years. He was a member of the Caro Old Tractor and Engine Club and the Kinde VFW. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an avid fan of antique tractors and machinery. He is survived by his wife, Betty Badgley, of Kinde; one son, Larry Badgley, of Kinde; one daughter, Sheri Lynn (Dennis) Stanton, of Kinde; one brother, Robert (Betty) Badgley, of Bad Axe; three grandsons, Kevin (Lanore) Stanton, Jason Badgley, and Charles (Danielle) Stanton; three great-grandchildren, Brett Stanton, Jacob Stanton, and Kaylynn Dumaw. He was predeceased by one sister, Betty Ignash. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2005, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Burial will be in New River Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Monday, January 09, 2006 Frieda M. Bueschlen Frieda M. Bueschlen, 101, of Frankenmuth and formerly of Sebewaing, departed to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 7, 2006, at Independence Village of Frankenmuth following a one-week illness. She was born December 20, 1904 in Boyne City, daughter of the late Rev. Charles and Reda (White) Koteskey. She was united in marriage to Melvin A. Otto on June 24, 1924. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1935. She then married Walter Bueschlen on February 14, 1959. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1975. The next 16 years, she enjoyed living in Holiday, Florida, and her later years at Independence Village in Frankenmuth, where friends and relatives kept an amicable association with her. Frieda was a very active and faithful member of Kilmanagh United Methodist Church. She most recently was a member of Frankenmuth United Methodist Church. Surviving are four sons and their spouses, Donald (Shirley) Otto, of Troy, Lester (Lorraine) Otto, of Sand Point, Joe (Marlene) Otto, and Lee (Yvonne) Otto, all of Gladwin; son-in-law, Bill Kundinger, of Bay City; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth and the Rev. Jack Seberry, of Grand Rapids, Alvera (Wayne) Holcomb, of Petoskey; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Kundinger; brothers, Clarence Koteskey and Harvey Koteskey; sisters, Cecil Ball, Lucille Zimmerman, Fern Oehrli, and Ruby Abbott. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at the Family Center at Bay Shore Camp in Sebewaing. The Rev. Memorials may be made to Bay Shore Camp. Tuesday, January 10, 2006 Scott L. Lorenz Scott L. Lorenz, 34, of Sebewaing, died Sunday evening, January 8, 2006, at his home following a five-month illness. He was born July 20, 1971 in Saginaw, son of Gerald Lorenz Jr. and Judith (Potter) Lorenz. He was united in marriage to Rena K. Packard on June 6, 1992 in Wisner. Scott had been employed at Huron Castings in Pigeon. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, remote control cars, and was a Cub Scout leader. Surviving are his wife, Rena, of Sebewaing; two sons, David and Devon Lorenz, at home; his father, Gerald Lorenz Jr., of Midland; mother, Judith Lorenz, of Saginaw; brothers, Willia Lorenz and his wife, Maryann, of Sebewaing, Robert Lorenz and James Lorenz, both of Saginaw, Victor Lorenz, of Midland; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2006, at the Dinkel- Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Jerry H. Wallace will officiate with burial in the Assembly of God Cemetery in Sebewaing. Memorials may be made to David and Devon Lorenz Education Fund. Gary M. Sobieski Gary M. Sobieski, 60, of Port Austin, died Saturday, January 7, 2006, at his home. He was born on August 2, 1945 in Hamtramck, son of Adelle (Narkiewicz) and the late William Sobieski. Gary retired to Port Austin on September 14, 2000 from San Diego, where he worked for the City of San Diego. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the American Legion Frank Horetski Post 499 in Port Austin. Gary loved fishing and classic cars. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Port Austin; two daughters, Michele Viveiros, of Port Austin, and Melinda (Frank) Rubalcaba, of California; one grandson, Cody Viveiros; mother, Adelle Sobieski, of Port Austin; three sisters, Peggy Kargol, of Harrison Township, Leona (Don) Barba, of Harrison Township, and Evelyn "Micky" (Don) Rathjen, of Imlay City. Helen Wasielewski Helen Wasielewski, 83, of Ubly, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2006, at Autumnwood of Deckerville. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at St. John's Catholic Church in Ubly. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Arrangements are being handled by the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Wednesday, January 11, 2006 Nancy E. Gremel Nancy E. Gremel, 75, of Sebewaing, passed away Monday, January 9, 2006, following a several month illness. She was born on June 13, 1930 in Caseville, daughter of the late Robert and Mabel (Davidson) Gillingham. As their daughter, she worked at the family Scenic Gift Shop in Caseville and the Gillingham Fish Company in Bay Port. She attended Boarding School at Alma College in Canada, was an accomplished artist, and attended the Ringling School of Art in Florida. She also was a successful business owner, having owned and operated the Terry Gail Shop in Sebewaing for several years. She was united in marriage to her loving husband, Victor F. Gremel, on August 26, 1949 in Sebewaing. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1994. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the choir. She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, one son and their spouses, Gail and Ted Kelly, of Sebewaing, Terrence V. Gremel, of Kennewick, Washington, Wanda and Craig McCane, of Rockford; eight grandchildren, Eric and Angela Kelly, Audrey Kelly, Marrisa Gremel, Cameron DeHaven, Simon Gremel, Meghan, Connor and Logan McCane; two great-grandchildren, Eingland and Corbin Kelly; one sister, Wanda Quinn, of Bloomfield Hills, and one brother, Robert S. and Bertha Gillingham, of Carlsbad, California; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2006, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Hahn will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice or the Humane Society. Neil A. McTaggart Neil A. McTaggart, 81, of North Miami, Florida and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2006, at Parkway Regional Medical Center in North Miami Beach, Florida following a short illness. He was born on May 11, 1924 in Sheridan Township, son of the late Donald and Luetta (Gray) McTaggart. He farmed for a number of years on the family farm. He then went on to graduate from the Reppert School of Auctioneering and Livestock Judging on August 16, 1946. In the 1950s, he worked with Happyland Shows and was well-known for his skillful motorcycle stunt riding on the "Wall of Death." In later years, he had a wood-cutting business in the Thumb and then moved to Florida, where he had resided for the past 25 years. Neil is survived by two brothers, Donald McTaggart, of North Miami Beach, Florida, and Harold (Kay) McTaggart, of Port Hope; one sister, Ellen Jean Maus, of Bay City; 10 nieces and nephews; 20 great-nieces and great-nephews; and two great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Thomas Maus; and a nephew, Michael Maus. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2006, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Burial will be in the McTaggart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Joseph N. Arquette Joseph Norman Arquette, 74, of Filion, died unexpectedly Monday, January 9, 2006, in his home. He was born December 5, 1931 in Chazy, New York to John and Hazel (Mousseau) Arquette. He married Shirley A. Schenk on December 3, 1955 in Detroit. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Okinawa and Korea. He met Shirley Ann Schenk, the sister of his friend, Paul C. Schenk. They were married and had seven children. Joseph worked at General Motors as a job setter and machine operator until 1978 when he suffered a heart attack causing his retirement. Joseph enjoyed turkey hunting, loved watching sports on television and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a big Detroit Red Wings fan. He attended Restoration Outreach Center in Caro. Joseph is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, John (Donna) Arquette, of Mayville, Charleen (Roger) Dennis, of Caro, Darlene (Andrew) Anderson, of Harrison Township, Deborah Burchett, of Warren, JoAnn (Mike) Furness, of Fort Campbell, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jessica (Bryan) Edgett, James (Kacey) Arquette, Joseph Arquette, Diane Reece, Kat Dennis, Samantha Dennis, Andrew Anderson Jr., Randi Anderson, Joseph Burchett, Connor Furness, Peyton Furness; great grandchildren, Morgan, Makayla, Joshua, Trinity; sisters, Irene (Louis) Ryback, Mary (Clifford) Hayes, and Olive Lamoy; brothers, Kermit Arquette, John Arquette; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his infant twins, James Dean and Jane Marie, in 196l; son-in- law, Jerry Burchett, in 1999. Mest, 78, of Deckerville, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at the Harbor Beach Long Term Care Facility. She was born on May 26, 1927 in Detroit, the daughter of the late August and Julianie (Troester) Zotz. She married John Mest on June 25, 1949 in Detroit. She was a homemaker who loved to paint, play the piano, quilt, garden and take care of her animals. She was loved and will be missed by her loving husband. She is survived by her husband, John; three daughters, Ms. Susan Peck and her fiancé, Harold Hallock, of Harbor Beach, Yvonne (Dave) Habecker, of Oregon, Ranae (Jim) Stauder, of New York; three sons, John W. Mest, of Iowa, Terry (Melody) Mest, of Roseville, and Charles (Shannon) Mest, of Davidson; and 11 grandchildren. A private viewing has taken place for the family at the Apsey Funeral Home, with cremation following. Florence Black Florence Rochefort McDowell Black, 83, a longtime Bad Axe resident, died peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2006, at the home of her son, Lee McDowell, in Surprise, Arizona, after an extended illness. She was born in Bad Axe on March 5, 1922, daughter of the late Avery and Irma (Babcock) Rochefort. She married G. Esson McDowell, her childhood sweetheart on June 21, 1941 at the Colfax United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on September 16, 1971. During the following years, she wintered with her parents in Port Charlotte, Florida, and it was there that she met and later married Donald E. Black, originally from Chicago, Illinois. He passed away on January 30, 1997. Florence was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe. She attended McDowell Country School and graduated from Bad Axe High School. In addition to farming, she was employed by the H.J. Smith Store, and for many years by Corbishley's Men's Wear. In Huron County, she as a member of The Handi Helpers, a group which supported the Huron County Retarded Children's Association. In Florida, Florence and Don were a driving force in fundraising for the V.F.W. Post No. 5690, in Port Charlotte, serving as lifetime member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Military Order of the Cooties Auxiliary Transplant No. 56. Additionally, she organized and maintained an outreach program to local Port Charlotte nursing homes and was involved in many hurricane disaster relief programs. She enjoyed cooking for fundraising events, collecting teddy bears, and being with family. She is survived by her children, Lee Esson McDowell, retired Michigan State Police Post Commander in Bad Axe, and his wife, Deborah, now residing in Surprise, Arizona, and Janis Ann McDowell, of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren, Heather McDowell McKean and Kyle Esson McDowell; and one great-grandchild, Kelsey Jo McKean, all of Surprise, Arizona; brothers, Don Rochefort, of Port Charlotte, Florida, Lyle Rochefort and his wife, Eva, Jack Rochefort and his wife, Jean, all of Bad Axe; sister, Carol (Rochefort) Klawinski and her husband, Don, of Bay City; and cousin, Jean Steinhaus, of Port Huron. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2006, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. The Rev. William Wright, pastor of First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Schubach, 95, of Elkton, died Wednesday afternoon, January 11, 2006, with family by her side. She was born September 10, 1910 in Owendale at the home of her parents, the late Harry and Selma (Buzzard) Fritz. On December 25, 1930, she was united in marriage to Stanley A. Schubach at the Bay Port Methodist parsonage. Mrs. Schubach lived and farmed in McKinley Township and Oliver Township with her husband. They retired in 1973, spending their winters near Brownsville, Texas. After Stanley passed away in 1998, she continued to go to Texas during the winter months until her health prevented it. Florence was a member of Hayes United Methodist Church and loved quilting. She was also a wonderful gardener and enjoyed camping with her family. Surviving are six children, Anna Marie Krohn, of Elkton, Eunice (Oliver) Leitch, of Elkton, Selma (Bob) Thiel, of McKinley Township, Carolyn (Dennis) Champagne, of Elkton, Ila Waller, of Mt. Clemens, and Jack Schubach, of Elkton; 23 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a grandson, Gary "Judge" Leitch; two brothers, Alvin and Wilford Fritz; and a sister, Helen Muenter. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2006, at the Hayes United Methodist Church. The Rev. Douglas Mater, pastor, and her nephew, Lewis Tibbits, will officiate with burial next to Stanley in Caseville Township Cemetery. Zdrojewski, 84, of Palms, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at Autumnwood of Deckerville. He was born July 14, 1921 in Palms to the late William and Lucy (Partaka) Zdrojewski. He married Louise Essenmacher on May 13, 1942 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Daniel was an eighth-grade graduate of a country school. He farmed for many years. He worked at Clements Manufacturing for 20 years. He worked at General Cable in Cass City, retiring on July 14, 1984, after 21 years of employment. He worked for Mullett Muck Farm for 10 years and Brian Williams Potato Farm for five years. He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palms, where he was an usher. He was the caretaker at St. Patrick Cemetery for 10 years. He was a member of the Cass City Knights of Columbus Council No. 8892. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and visiting with family and friends. Daniel is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise, of Palms; three sons, Roger Zdrojewski and his wife, Annette, of Arizona, William Zdrojewski of Coleman, and Phillip Zdrojewski and his wife, JoAnn, of Palms; daughter-in-law, Michelle Zdrojewski Leeson and her husband, Fred, of Cass City; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one step great-grandson; two brothers, Edward Zdrojewski and his wife, Bernita, of Sandusky, Anthony (Whitey) Zdrojewski and his wife, Doris, of Palms; and three sisters, Grace Graff, of Palms, Florence Hamill, of Port Sanilac, and Clara Essenmacher, of Ruth. He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth; one brother, James Zdrojewski; one sister, Lucille Tepper; and four brothers-in- law, Edward Graff, Cecil Hamill, John Essenmacher, and Albert Tepper. Friday, January 13, 2006 Rev. Lavern Nutzmann Rev. Lavern Nutzmann, 92, of Port Hope, passed away in the long-term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital on Thursday, January 12, 2006. Born in Wall Lake, Iowa on November 11, 1913, he was the son of the late Otto and Margaret (Wunschel) Nutzmann. On June 21, 1946, Lavern and Iverne Mullins were united in marriage in Springfield, Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2005. Lavern was a graduate of Concordia College in Springfield, Illinois in 1946 and began his ministry in Iowa. He was the former pastor of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Palms for 19 years and at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope for 20 years. Besides his normal duties, he was a vacancy pastor for many other Lutheran churches in the Thumb area. He is survived by his children, John Nutzmann and his wife, Joyce, of Mount Morris, Paul Nutzmann and his wife, Elaine, of Deckerville, and Judy Nutzmann, of Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elmer Nutzmann, of Long Beach, California. Lavern was preceded in death by a son, James Nutzmann; a grandson, Andrew Nutzmann; and a sister, Leona Johnson. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 15, 2006, in St. John Lutheran Church, Port Hope, with burial in the Downing Cemetery, Deckerville. A scripture service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home and from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services on Sunday at the church. Edna M. Rodenbo Edna Marguerite Rodenbo, 88, of Kingston, died Thursday, January 12, 2006, in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility after a long illness. She was born August 12, 1917 in Kingston Township to William J. and Anna M. (Harneck) McLaren. She married Russell J. Rodenbo on September 18, 1953 in Kingston. He died October 8, 1987. Edna worked for L.A. Heineman & Son General Store in Kingston as a clerk for nine years before leaving to make their home in Rochester Hills. She was a member of Kingston Wesleyan Church and their Missionary Society. She was a former member of White Creek Floral Club. Edna enjoyed sewing clothes, reading and caring for her family. Edna is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (Walter) Maule, of Canton, Georgia; grandson, David A. (Eileen) Maule, of Crystal Lake, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Tori Maule, Dylan Maule, Joseph Maule, Jamie Leigh Maule; and many nieces and nephews; special niece and nephew, Linda and Floyd McIntosh, of Cass City; in-laws, Leland Lester, of Kingston, and Archie and Jean Rodenbo, of Kingston. She was preceded in death by sisters, Leatha Thrasher and Phyllis Warner; brother, Harold McLaren. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2006, in Kingston Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Kenneth Sanderfur officiating.
