Sunday, July 9, 2006 Glenn Darr Glenn Ernest Darr, 93, of Cass City, died Friday, July 7, 2006, at home with his family at his side. He was born June 11, 1913 at home in Argyle Township to Henry and Emma Darr. He married Mildred Arlene Morrish on December 13, 1936 in Cass City. She died September 14, 1981. He later married Roberta June Czarnecki Morrish on June 16, 1983. Glenn worked for Ford Motor Company in the Transmission Division in Livonia until his retirement. He was a member of Local #182. Glenn loved farming, including plowing, harvesting, raising feeder cattle, working in the fields, baling hay. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and watching the hummingbirds. Glenn is survived by his wife, Roberta; children, Charles H. Darr, of Saginaw; Deanna J. (Lee) Miller, of Caseville; 9 grandchildren, including Greg (Emily) Darr, of Cass City; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; step-children, Wanda (Carl) Reddick, Ruth (Paul) Riccardi, Bonnie (Dennis) Rolston, Joy-Ann (Ronald) Horning, Floyd H. (Ethel) Morrish, Gloria (Tom) Stilson, Max Morrish, Janet (Charles) Williams; several step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sons, William Darr, Jack Darr; daughter, Joyce Darr. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 10, 2006, in Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with Karen Bouverette, Heartland Hospice chaplain, officiating. Interment will take place in Elkland Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice. Dubs William J. Dubs, 77, of Lewisville, died of a heart attack on Sunday, July 9, 2006, surrounded by his family. William was a long-time resident of Port Hope and a lifetime resident of Huron County. He lived for his family and friends. He was a man with many hobbies ranging from spending time outdoors to strapping on the dancing shoes. Gary Ross Gary Ross, 57, of Frankfort, died at home on Saturday, July 8, 2006, surrounded by his immediate family. The son of Frank Ross and Jeanette and James Hewitt, he was born November 20, 1948 in Bad Axe. He attended school in Ubly, excelling in high school basketball and football, and served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1968 until 1970, when he was honorably discharged. Gary earned a bachelor of science degree in education and social work from Central Michigan University and went on to complete a master's degree in social work from the University of Michigan. Committed to social services and education, Gary worked for Community Mental Health as Program Director for Developmental Disability Services and later for the Wexford-Missaukee Intermediate School District. During his nearly 20 years with the school district, Gary worked with children and families as a school social worker and later as the director of technology, integrating technological innovations into educational settings. In these positions, he earned multiple awards for his service and leadership. As a hobby and business, Gary and a friend owned and operated Harrietta Wood Products for almost 10 years, a saw mill that produced log home kits and cedar products. In 1991, after building their new log home, Gary and his family moved from the Cadillac area to Frankfort, where they've lived since. He loved spending time outdoors, discussing politics, sharing funny stories and spending time with family and friends. Gary is survived by Donna, his wife of 35 years; daughter, Leslie (Alex) Sarapu, of Washington, D.C.; son, James Ross, of Frankfort; parents, Jeanette and James Hewitt; step-mother, Agnes Ross; eight beloved brothers and sisters; brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many other loving family and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Frank Ross. Family and friends will celebrate Gary's life during a service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2006, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 955 James Street, in Frankfort. Cook Miss Beatrice E. Cook, 89, of Indianapolis and formerly of Minden City, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at the Community Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born December 26, 1916 in Paris Township to the late Jacob and Victoria (Briolat) Cook. She never married. She graduated from a country school and high school. She worked with her family on the farm and was a hair dresser for many years. She moved to Indianapolis in 2001. Beatrice is survived by three nephews, Vincent Kucharczyk and his wife, Suzanne, of Fishers, Indiana, Paul and James Kucharczyk, both of Virginia; one great- nephew, Christopher Kucharczyk; and one great-niece, Katie Kucharczyk, both of Fishers, Indiana. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Kucharczyk and Clarence Cook; one sister-in-law, Rita Kucharczyk. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. The Rev. Andrzej Boroch, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Holz, 67, of Bay City and formerly of Bad Axe, died Friday, July 7, 2006, at Brian's House. Marion was born in Bad Axe on January 21, 1939 to the late Spencer and Edith (Doyle) Toner. She married Matthew Holz on September 8, 1962 in Bad Axe. She resided most of her life in Bad Axe and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. She owned and operated Marion's Beauty Shop in Filion retiring in 1968. Mrs. Holz is survived by two daughters and a son, Christy Eicher, of Elkton, Judi Zima, of Bay City, and Bill (Tammie) Holz, of Bad Axe; two grandchildren, Keaton Holz and Ashley Burdetsky; three sisters and two brothers. She was preceded in death by husbands, Gary L. Eicher and Matthew Holz; son, Eric Holz; one sister; and two brothers. A committal service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Colfax Cemetery, Bad Axe. Irene Odgers Wiley Rutledge Irene Odgers Wiley Rutledge, 82, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at her home in Sparks, Maryland, of heart failure after a lengthy illness. Born November 16, 1923 in Avoca, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late William and Helen Odgers. She was the wife of the late Dr. Dale Andrew Wiley who died in 1960 and the late Dr. James Bevard Rutledge Jr. who died in 2001. Following her graduation from West Piston High School near her home in Avoca, Pennsylvania, she worked as a secretary for the FBI in Philadelphia where she volunteered in the USO during World War II. Both of her husbands were veterinarians in Jarrettsville and she worked tirelessly in support of their practices at the Jarrettsville Veterinary Hospital. As a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, she was a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir and leader of the children's choir. She enjoyed serving as a Cub Scout den mother. She strongly supported education, was an active PTA member and officer at all of the schools attended by her eight children including North Harford Middle School and North Harford High School. She also served as a substitute teacher. In the opening years of North Harford Middle School, she wrote and produced "The Show," a sell-out musical comedy that raised funds for the school. Irene loved the beach and spent many summers and much of her final years in Ocean City, Maryland. She also lived for a time in Florida. Irene enjoyed traveling to visit her children and their families in other states. But most of all, Irene was a great mother to her eight children and nine grandchildren, passing on to them her passion for faith, education, music, antiques, arts, community and family. She is survived by eight children, Dale A. Wiley II, of Baltimore, Maryland, Linda L. Wiley, of Graysonville, Maryland, Helena I. Edie, of Jupiter, Florida, William R. Wiley, of Abingdon, Maryland, Abbie S. Yant, of San Francisco, California, Joseph N. Wiley, of Bad Axe, James B. Rutledge III, of White Hall, Maryland, and Michael J. Rutledge, of Ocean City, Maryland; nine grandchildren, Casey Wiley, of Jupiter, Florida, Sarah Wiley, of Jupiter, Florida, Ruben Dobbs, of Annapolis, Maryland, Robert Yant, of San Francisco, California, Jackson Yant, of San Francisco, California, Katherine Wiley, of Bad Axe, Jessica Wiley, of Bad Axe, Ashley Rutledge, of White Hall, Maryland, and Forrest Rutledge, of White Hall, Maryland. Swartzendruber Jewel M. Swartzendruber, 79, of Pigeon, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care in Pigeon. She was born in Sebewaing on August 7, 1926, the daughter of the late Perry and Elizabeth (Avery) Dutcher. She graduated from Bay Port High School. On November 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Paul George Swartzendruber at the Pigeon River Mennonite Church. He survives her. Mrs. Swartzendruber enjoyed needlework and problem solving, especially crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed reading and gardening, particularly flower gardening. Her family and grandchildren, however, were her favorite pastime. She was a faithful member of Pigeon River Mennonite Church. In addition to her husband, George, to whom she had been married for more than 59 years, she is survived by four children, Judy (Larry) Stutzman, of Flushing, Ralph (Debra) Swartzendruber, of Bay Port, Paul (Lori) Swartzendruber, of Pigeon, and Anita Gehringer, of Flushing; eight grandchildren, Amy, Jason (Megan), Kelly, Linsey, Jessica, Angela, Jill, and Kyle; a sister, Zola (Arthur) Roeber, of Pigeon; two brothers, Frank (Gertrude) Dutcher, of Hartville, Ohio, and Ronald (Rhea) Dutcher, of Bay Port; many nieces and nephews; and in-laws, Ray (Goldie) Swartzendruber, of Pigeon, and Helen Swartzendruber, of Fairview. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lawanda Gnagey. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2006, at the Pigeon River Mennonite Church, with the Rev.
