Hatlas, age 93, of Grant Township, died Friday morning, March 10, 2006, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was born June 19, 1912 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Stanley and Lucy (Suchocka) Brecht. She moved to the Detroit area in her youth and graduated from Northeastern High School. She was employed at Electrolux in Detroit until she married. On June 1, 1940, she was united in marriage to Mike V. Hatlas at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon. Helen was very active in the farm and dairy operation with her husband, Mike. She loved to make quilts and was an avid bowler. She and Mike spent many winters in Zehpyrhills, Florida. Helen was a former member of the Huron County Ladies Extension Service and St. Columbkille Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. Surviving are her husband of over 65 years, Mike; children, Michael Hatlas, of Grant Township, Diana (Fred) Kausch, of Grant Township, and Marlene (William) Coleman, of Linden; daughter-in-law, Jennie; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Glann, 88, of Sebewaing, died Sunday morning, March 12, 2006, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro following a six-month illness. He was born November 22, 1917 in Flushing, son of the late Levi J. and Edith M. (Hackney) Glann. He was united in marriage to Ella L. Nutt on January 16, 1944 in Sebewaing. Don had been employed at Active Industries in Elkton for 37 years before retiring in 1984. He had also farmed in the Owendale area for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a purple heart recipient and also was involved with the Civil Conservation Corps. He was a life member of the Sebewaing V.F.W. Post No. 4115 and also the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed gardening and working in his yard and especially loved tinkering in his garage. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ella, of Sebewaing; two daughters, one son and their spouses, Janet and Richard McAlpine, of Clifford, Russell and Phyllis Glann, of Kawkawlin, Carolyn and Jerome Houthoofd, of Unionville; six grandchildren, Brian Ferns, Kyle (Gia) Glann, Kraig Houthoofd, Kelli Houthoofd, and Sarah Glann; three great-grandchildren, Morgan Glann, Tyler Deneen, and Isabelle Deneen; two step-sisters; one step-brother; numerous sisters- in-law; and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jodi Lynn Houthoofd. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. John Heim will officiate with cremation to follow at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. He will be buried in Demorest Cemetery near Akron. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Sebewaing V.F.W. Post No. 4115. Tuesday, March 14, 2006 – No obituaries reported Wednesday, March 15, 2006 Mary Jo Collier Mary Jo Collier, 57, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, in Florence, South Carolina. She was born April 26, 1948 in Bad Axe, the daughter of Edward Allen Swackhamer and the late Joanne Schmidt Swackhamer. She was an LPN nurse in OB/GYN at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Survivors include her father; two daughters, Annsley Hill and her husband, Wayne, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Ashley Collier, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Christopher and Megan Hill; and granddog, Sugar. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2006, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The family will receive friends following the service. Koscielski, 86, of Caseville, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2006, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon after a long illness. He was born on December 25, 1919 in Hamtramck to the late Stanley and Mary (Wisniewski) Koscielski. He married Jane "Jean" Zolnierczak on June 29, 1946 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Detroit. Eugene was a graduate of Hamtramck High School. He attended the Detroit Barber School and also received his real estate license. He worked in different barber shops in Detroit. He owned and operated Eugene's Barber Shop in Detroit from 1938 to 1984. He then moved to Caseville with his wife for retirement. He was a former member of the Hamtramck Knights of Columbus and the Barber's Union. He enjoyed country and western music, the Detroit Tigers, and visiting with family and friends. Eugene is survived by his wife, Jane "Jean" Koscielski, of Caseville; one son, Eugene Church and his wife, Deborah Worden, of North Street; one daughter, Gloria Becker and her husband, Michael, of Redmond, Washington; one sister, Helen Sobecki, of Warren; one sister-in-law, Merle Zakrzewski, of Sterling Heights; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Koscielski, and one sister, Stella Regulinski. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2006, at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor of St. John Catholic Church in Ubly, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. Memorials are requested to American Diabetes Association. Thursday, March 16, 2006 Lillian M. Eveleth Lillian M. Eveleth, 93, of Holland and formerly of Caseville, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Resthaven Care Center of Holland. Lillian was born September 3, 1912 in Clio, to the Rev. Franklin and Estella (Foltz) Ogle. She was a graduate of Alma College with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and French. She earned a master's degree in Latin from the University of Michigan. Lillian was married to Burr Eveleth on July 15, 1939. She was a High School teacher at Ubly High School, teaching Latin, biology and chemistry for over 30 years, retiring in 1975. Lillian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ubly, the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed quilting and traveling, but especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities. Lillian is survived by daughters, Estella (Thorn J.) Brown, of Grand Rapids, Sarah (C. Michael) Jacobson, of Haslett, Eva Eveleth Kobes, of Holland; a son, Charles F. (Judith) Eveleth, of West Bloomfield; grandchildren, Deborah Donnellon, Bridget and Kristen Brown, Charles, Jill and Timothy Eveleth, Maija Bentley, Amy and Laura Jacobson, and Ian, Evan, and Robyn Kobes; great-grandchildren, Peyton Eveleth and Sarah Bentley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Burr Eveleth, in 2002; sisters, Eloise Westbrook, in 1967, infant sister, Evelyn Ogle, in 1912; and a brother, Harlan Ogle, in 1973. Steinhardt Alice M. Steinhardt, 84, of Bad Axe, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at her home. She was born on October 9, 1921 in Meade Township, daughter of the late Roderick and Flora (McIntyre) McIntyre. She married Edward Steinhardt on October 21, 1944 in the military chapel at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. She assisted her husband, Dr. Edward E. Steinhardt, in starting and operating his medical practice in Elkton in 1947. They moved to Bad Axe in 1955. Mrs. Steinhardt worked as a Registered Nurse for Providence Hospital in Detroit, Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe, for the Elkton Schools, as well as in her husband's practice. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, member and past president of the Huron County Medical Auxiliary, and member of Verona Hills and Scenic Golf Courses. She managed the family farms in Huron County and enjoyed the animals and horseback riding. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Edward E. Steinhardt, of Bad Axe; one son, Dr. George F. (Julia) Steinhardt, of East Grand Rapids; three daughters, Irene Steinhardt, of Bad Axe, Heidi (Keith) Walker, of Filion, Norma (Dr. Jim) Bour, of Kalamazoo; one brother, Andy (Sally) McIntyre, of Hadley; three sisters, Jeanne Mundestock, of Wisconsin, Norma (Joseph) Pepper, of Dearborn, Christine (Ron) Johnson, of Palm Desert, California; nine grandchildren, Kristy (Michael) Treacy, Dave Heasly, Sarah Walker, Edward Steinhardt, George Steinhardt, Mary Alice Walker, Charles Steinhardt, Rebecca Bour, and James Bour; two great-grandchildren, Collin and Darby Treacy; one son-in-law, Jim Heasly, of Aurora, Colorado; and dear family friend and companion, Adrian Wodwaska, of Parisville. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Christine Heasly; one brother, Johnny McIntyre; and one infant sister, Gertrude McIntyre. Friday, March 17, 2006\ Hazel Atkinson Hazel Atkinson, 92, of Elkton, died Thursday morning, March 16, 2006, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center, Bad Axe. She was born April 8, 1914 in Grant Township at the home of her parents, the late Ostrum and Wealthy (Sherman) Summers. On October 23, 1935, she was united in marriage to Frank Atkinson in Caro. They farmed in Grant Township until 1962, when they moved into Elkton. Hazel was a hard working lady and enjoyed first and foremost reading her Bible, baking for her family, doing crossword puzzles, making rag rugs, and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a former member of the Gagetown Church of the Nazarene and had been attending the Community Wesleyan next door the past few years. Surviving are two sons, Dale (Cheryl) Atkinson and Jerry (Alma) Atkinson, both of Elkton; five grandchildren, Darrin (Tina), Tonya (Bill), Wendy (Shawn), Michael and Aaron; nine great-grandchildren, Angie (Bill), Ken (Regina), Beth, Geraldo, Miguel, Connor, Hunter, McKenzie and Katie; three great-great- grandchildren, Talon, Kaden, and Kaleb; a brother, Lawrence Summers, of Grant Township; and her sister, Loretta "Rita" Woolner, of Elkton. Preceding her in death were three sisters, Gretchen Severn, Riva Rasmussen, and Liza Summers; and two brothers, Clifton and Alton Summers. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton. Her nephew, the Rev. Don Summers, pastor of Lighthouse Assembly in Saginaw, will officiate with burial in Grant Township Cemetery.
