Brashaw Dorothy Margaret Brashaw, 75, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2006, in Winter Park, Florida, while visiting her sister, and after a courageous and lengthy illness. She was born May 17, 1931 in Flint to Frederick and Frieda Knerr. Dorothy (Knerr) Kearns and John V. Brashaw were married November 27, 1965 in Flushing. He preceded her in death February 15, 1990. She is survived by three daughters, Dianne (Ron) Maschke, Sandra (Mike) Sensenig, of Port Austin, and Carrie Kearns, of Saginaw; four sons, John G. (Mary) Brashaw, of Nebraska, Donald (Joetta) Brashaw, of Virginia, Dale Brashaw, of Bad Axe, and David Richner; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elsie Louise Toble, of Winter Springs, Florida; and many, many friends and relatives. Dorothy will be remembered for her active membership of the American Legion Auxiliary in Port Austin, holding several offices including past president. She also drove a school bus for several years, and her talent of cake decorating will be fondly remembered. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2006, at the Port Austin United Protestant Church. Cremation already has taken place. Memorials can be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. Mae C. Grifka Miss Mae C. Grifka, 43, of Snover, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2006, unexpectedly at Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City. She was born November 14, 1962 in Cass City to Olive (Stepka) Grifka and the late Alex Grifka. Mae graduated from Ubly High School in 1980. She was a lifelong parishioner at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg where she served on the parish council, was a CCD instructor and Eucharistic minister to the sick. She worked at Regency Plastics for several years and at the Sandusky Wal-Mart for more than a year. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting, board games, pinochle and other card games. Mae is survived by her mother, Olive Grifka, of Snover; six brothers, Tony (Jean), of Ubly, Bill (Mary), of Chelsea, Ron (Audrey), of Snover, Jim (Elaine), of Caro, Lee (Sandy), of Deckerville, and Tom Grifka, of Sandusky; two sisters, Kay Muma and Ann (Walter) Shatto, both of Snover; foster siblings, Carl Peters, Mike Lautner and Leona Kanaby; several nieces, nephews and godchildren; and lifelong friend, Mary Walsh Sache. She was preceded in death by her father, Alex Grifka; two brothers, Richard and Alan Grifka; sister-in-law, Joan Grifka; brother-in-law, Ray Muma; and niece, Anna Muma-Doyle. A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2006, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 9 p.m. today at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the church only. There will be a parish vigil service at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Joseph Maust Sr. Joseph "Joe" Maust Sr., 98, of Pigeon, passed away Friday, June 16, 2006, at his home. He was born September 21, 1907 in Bay Port. He married Emma L. Fisher of Kalona, Iowa on April 12, 1936. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They farmed in the Bay Port area from 1929-1939, then moved to Pigeon where they opened a frozen food locker plant, the first of its kind in Michigan. In 1946, it was expanded to the Maust Super Market with a self-serve meat department. In 1951, Joe developed the first bulk propane gas business in the Gagetown area, which became Huron Gas Company and was moved to Bad Axe. The grocery store was sold in 1959 and the gas business also was sold. Active Feed Company, on the west end of Pigeon, started operation in 1960, purchasing corn and manufacturing animal feeds. Egg production and processing also became a part of the business. In 1990, they re-entered the propane gas business. The Mausts bought majority interest in Akron State Bank in 1979, and a new building was built in Caro in 1991 after the business had grown considerably. The name was changed to Community Bank and the Pigeon branch was added in 1995. Valley Financial Corporation was founded in 1993 and includes Valley Financial Services, Inc., Valley Title Company, and Valley Insurance Agency, as well as Community Bank. Joe and Emma enjoyed traveling throughout the world. He was an active golfer and a member of Scenic Golf & Country Club, Pigeon. He also enjoyed hunting, bowling and downhill skiing. Joe was among the group which helped establish the Pigeon Little League program. He was an avid Tiger baseball fan since attending his first game in May of 1927. He was a member of the Pigeon Rotary Club since 1961 where he had more than 30 years perfect attendance, and he was a Paul Harris recipient. He was an active member of the Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church in Pigeon. In addition to his wife, Emma, Joe is survived by a daughter, Myra Gerstenschlager, of Saginaw; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph J. and Diane Maust and Doug and Marilyn Maust, all of Pigeon; seven grandchildren: Jody (Gerstenschlager) Miller and her husband, Burne, Dana Gerstenschlager, Wendy (Gerstenschlager) Eurich and her husband, Joel, J. Scott Maust, Renee Maust Read and her husband, John, Tiffany Maust, and Deborah Arnoldy; four great-grandchildren, Elise, Evan, Emma and Jonah; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lloyd Gerstenschlager, and 11 brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2006, at Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church in Pigeon, with the Rev. Scot Wilson, pastor, and the Rev. Luke Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon, and at 10 a.m. on Monday at the church. Mia Rain Pasanski Mia Rain Pasanski, 2 months and three days old, her strong battle for life ended Thursday, June 15, 2006, at home in Bad Axe with her family by her side. She was born April 12, 2006 in Huron Medical Center, the daughter of Shentelle Pasanski. Mia Rain is survived by her mother, Shentelle; an aunt, Jamie Pasanski; a cousin, Christopher Bukoski; grandparents, John and Connie Rock and Steve and Dawn Pasanski. Visitation for Mia Rain is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2006, at Thabet Funeral Home, 6255 Main Street, in Cass City. Services will immediately follow at Elkland Township Cemetery with Scott Mills officiating. Mia Rain will be missed by all who met her in her short life, and will remain in their hearts and minds always. Monday, June 19, 2006 Suzanna Janssens Suzanna Janssens, 96, of Pigeon, died Sunday morning, June 18, 2006, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born June 12, 1910 in Belgium to the late Sarafien and Marie (Meessen) Baert. On April 10, 1927, she was united in marriage to Theophiel J. Janssens in Belgium. They moved to the United States in 1930 settling in Detroit for a short time. They then went to Napoleon, Ohio for ten years before returning to the Detroit area. Mr. Janssens preceded her in death on March 15, 1961. She moved to Shelby Township, living there 20 years, before coming to Pigeon in 1994 to be near her son. Surviving are her son, Walter (Fran) Janssens, of Sand Point; her daughter, Lorraine (Dwight) Kleinlein, of Washington Township; six grandchildren, Linda, Debra, Susan, Diane, Mark and Kristi; eight great-grandchildren, Stephen, Jeffrey, Erin, Kevin, Kari, Lucas, Caleb and Owen and three great-great-grandchildren, Destiny, Gabe and Cameron. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville with burial at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township. Words of condolence may be left at www.champagnefuneralchapel.com. Robert Earl Osborne Robert Earl Osborne, 85, of Midland, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, in the home of his daughter, Barbara. Mr. Osborne was born November 19, 1920 in Saginaw to Vern and Ruth (Anderson) Osborne. Upon the early death of his father, he moved with his mother and brother, Donald, to Chandler Township in Huron County. His mother married Gene Osborne, a cousin of her first husband, and Robert (Bob) became "big brother" to eight children born of this second marriage. Bob was a graduate of Elkton High School where he was a star basketball player, sang the lead role in a school opera and was president of his FFA chapter. As a 1st Lieutenant of the 11th Airborne Division, the paratrooper served as a Military Occupational Specialist and Parachute Infantry Unit Commander in the Asiatic/Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was married during these years to Lorna Hofmeister. Their first child was born in Sebewaing during Bob's journey, by ship, to Japan. Four more children were born following his military service. He lived in Midland and was employed by Dow Corning for many years. Mr. Osborne and Ellen Brooks were married in 1970. She died in 2004. His younger brothers and sisters will remember him as a loving, care-giving hero. Bob will also be remembered for his laughter, his engaging storytelling, his friendly long-lasting handshake, his creative landscaping, his great skill and innovation as a builder and his generosity in serving others. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland. Surviving are sons and daughters, Bob Jr. (Betty), of Senegal, Africa; Tom (Patricia), of Auburn; Jim (Gail), of Pinckney; Barbara (Don) Ratell, of Midland, and Joan Norris, of Midland; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; stepsons, Curt Brooks, of Midland, and Jerry Brooks, of Sterling Heights; stepdaughters, Carol Milton, of California, and Judy Harris, of Montana; sisters, Marge Conley and Lois Kienholz; and brothers, Art, Jerry and Bill. Preceding him in death were siblings, Don, Jack, Midge Fleming and June Kimmel. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland. His interment will be in Grandlawn Cemetery in Huron County. Tuesday, June 20, 2006 Rose J. Cameron Rose J. Cameron, 74, of Harbor Beach and formerly of Caro, passed away Monday, June 19, 2006, at Karen's Place in Harbor Beach with hospice care. Born in Royal Oak on November 4, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Marion (Elrich) Cameron. Rose attended the First Baptist Church in Harbor Beach. She is survived by a sister, Mildred Bragg and her husband, Elmer, of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada and by 10 nieces and several cousins. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, in the Rock Falls Cemetery, Harbor Beach. Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, is handling arrangements. Amber E. Leipprandt Amber E. Leipprandt, 95, of Pigeon, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2006, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe. She was born in Bad Axe on April 29, 1911, daughter of the late Charles and Tillie (Tetreau) Gates. Her mother died in 1918, but since the age of 11, she was raised by her step-mother, Margaret McGeachy. On December 16, 1932, she was united in marriage to Willis L. Leipprandt at Bad Axe. He preceded her in death on November 29, 1995, after almost 63 years of married life. Mrs. Leipprandt was a life member and past matron of the Elkton No. 431 Eastern Star. Joining the group in 1939, she held the Matron chair for nearly 50 years and made many friends. She was a homemaker, enjoying her family, baking, and working crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader. She attended the Pigeon First United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Church Circle. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Sue Duprey-Bruce and her husband, Clark, of Caseville; two granddaughters, Michelle Love and her husband, Chris, of Dexter, and Stephanie Galofaro and Tony Galofaro, of Manchester; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ashley, and Connor Love, of Dexter; one sister, Charlene Zessin and her husband, James, of Bay City; three sisters-in-law, Donna Gates, of Cheboygan, Bette Gates, of Davison, and Isabel Leipprandt, of Pigeon; one brother-in-law, Carl Harrison, of Fishers, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Hazel Gates, Alma Case, Grace Leigh, June Hartjoy, Margaret Harrison, and Patricia Gross; and two brothers, Russell Gates and John Gates. Ward Anna M. Ward, 78, of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2006, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw following a short illness. She was born on April 28, 1928 in Hamtramck, daughter of the late Stephen and Leona (Gasper) Gergely. She married Jack F. Ward on June 17, 1950 in St. Rita Catholic Church in Detroit. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2003. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Choir. Her beautiful singing voice was enjoyed not only by the parishioners at her church, but other churches and venues in the community. She was also a member of the Bad Axe Senior Meal Site, the U & I Club of Port Austin and the euchre club at Wilcox Park in Bad Axe. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, spending time with her friends and family, and her special gift of song. She is survived by four sons, Michael Ward, of New Haven, Bruce (Jennifer) Ward, of Waterloo, Wisconsin, Allan (Susan) Ward, of Apple Valley, California, Ken (Machelle) Ward, of Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Jan (Karl) Kraus, of Bad Axe, Patti (Roy) Deneen, of Bad Axe; one sister, Theresa Verbeke, of Eastpointe; 12 grandchildren, Carrie (Chris) Barrette, Joe Bator, Brooke Bator, Troy Deneen, Chad (Stacey) Ward, Brandon Ward, Kaleena Ward, Grace Ward, Nicholas Ward, Alexxis Ward, Matt (Lisa) Kraus, and Brian (Dana) Kraus; five great-grandchildren, Kyler Barrette, Katie, Mackenzie, Morgan, and Sara Kraus; and several nieces and nephews. (Wallace) Garety After living a life filled with God's Blessings, Janet M. (Wallace) Garety, 88, of Sand Point, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born March 3, 1918 in Saginaw to the late Bruce and Margaret (Koehler) Wallace. On July 17, 1943, she was united in marriage to Dr. Patrick J. Garety DDS. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2002 after 59 years of marriage. She was a graduate of Central Michigan University with post graduate studies at Wayne State University. While Janet spent many years as her husband's dental assistant in Caro, her first love always was teaching. She was very proud of the 15 years she taught 1st and 3rd grade at Frank E. Schall Elementary School in Caro. She also taught in Saginaw, East Detroit, and Bloomfield Hills prior to coming to Caro. She enjoyed her retirement years reading, golfing and participating in putting leagues in Florida, but her favorite pastime was sitting on her porch watching the waves on Saginaw Bay. Surviving are her children, Patrick Garety Jr., of Memphis, Tennessee, Ann (Joel) Hyde, of Rockford, Joan Garety, of Ada; grandchildren, Rachel (Todd) VanderWall, of Lakewood, Colorado, Kevin Hyde, of Chicago, Illinois, Mary Hyde, of Grand Rapids, and Caroline Hyde, of Rockford. Pratt, 82, of Filion, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Bay Medical Care Facility in Essexville. She was born September 22, 1923 in Soultown, daughter of the late John and Nora (McGee) Green. She married August A. Drogosch on November 22, 1945. He preceded her in death on October 15, 1947. She then married Roy A. Pratt on January 27, 1951. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1980. She is survived by two children, Debra (Wade) Pratt-Schaefer, of Essexville, and Daniel Pratt, of Oakland, California; six grandchildren, Paul Mousseau, Julie Rockwell, Amber Erdman, Nora Metevia, Emily Knoblock, and Michael Knoblock; five great-grandchildren, Katie, Zachary, Daniel, Margot and Nicole; and three sisters, Mary Wolfer, Ann (Wesley) Nutt, and Eileen (Donald) Wickline. Helen was preceded in death by one daughter, Suzanne Knoblock; and two brothers, Frank Green and Alfred Green. Helen was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Kinde and of the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed music, dancing and being "Absolutely Irish." Thursday, June 22, 2006 Martin James Mausolf Jr. Mr. Martin James Mausolf Jr., 54, of Bad Axe, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at his residence. Martin was born July 19, 1951 in Bad Axe, son of Martin and Doris (Schmitt) Mausolf, Sr. He graduated from Our Lady of Lake Huron High School. He worked at U.S. Manufacturing in Bad Axe for many years. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool and cards. Martin is survived by his children, Alison Schmidt and her husband, Darren, of Ubly, Eric Mausolf, of Bad Axe, Nicole London and her husband, Jeremy, of Bad Axe, Nathan Mausolf and his wife, Tami, of Birth Run; his parents, Martin and Doris Mausolf, Sr., of Ubly; his siblings, Marilyn Braun and her husband, Steve, of Port Hope, Rodney Mausolf and his wife, Yvonne, of Bad Axe, Marlene Romzek and her husband, Tim, of Ubly, Teresa Oberski and her husband, Mark, of Ruth, Pauline Howard and her husband, Dave, of Bad Axe, Lisa Hunt and her husband, Brad, of Bad Axe, Julie Dekoski and her husband, Dave, of Harbor Beach; and many nieces and nephews. Friday, June 23, 2006 George Francis Hagedon George Francis Hagedon, 83, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor, Virginia. Born March 2, 1923 in Harbor Beach, he was the son of the late Ralph O. and Eva (Hunter) Hagedon. He graduated from Harbor Beach High School in 1941 and attended Michigan Technological University. George enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942, where he served aboard the U.S.S. San Juan, an anti- aircraft cruiser in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was united in marriage to Doris M. Hanson in Bellingham, Washington in 1944 and upon his discharge from the Navy, in 1945, they moved to Harbor Beach. He was a member of Burhans Hagedon Legion Post No. 196 in Harbor Beach. George returned to his job at Huron Milling Company which was later acquired by Hercules, Inc., where he was employed as superintendent of maintenance. After 20 years, he accepted a position with Wyandotte Chemical and the family moved to Nekoosa, Wisconsin, for three years. He then moved his family to Covington, Virginia in 1969 where he returned to work for Hercules, Inc., as a supervising maintenance engineer. He was a member of Edgemont Associated Reformed Synod Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon, elder and clerk of the session. He was a 60-year member of the Verona-Huron Lodge No. 365 in Michigan and Covington Masonic Lodge 171 A.F. and A.M. George was an avid golfer and a member of Alleghany Country Club for 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Doris Hagedon; three children, Signe Millerd, of Oxford, Shawn R. (Sarah) Hagedon, of Plover, Wisconsin, and Samuel D. (Terry) Hagedon, of Harrisonburg, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Monica (Michael) Hawpetoss, Solomon Hagedon, James Hagedon, Aaron Hagedon, Sarah Rachel Hagedon, Jennifer (Ryan) Rabb, Kyle Millerd, Patrick Hagedon and Christopher Hagedon; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Albert) Grates and Susan Stanke; three brothers, Bruce (Marilyn) Hagedon, Charles (Doris) Hagedon and Larry (Brenda) Hagedon; sister-in-law, Marie Hagedon; and several nieces and nephews. David F. Lesoski David F. Lesoski, 56, of Bay Port, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Funeral arrangements are incomplete, and are being conducted by the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon. Mildred P. Pechette Mildred P. Pechette, 73, of Pinnebog, died Wednesday afternoon, June 21, 2006, at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born May 30, 1932 in Detroit to Veronica (Goryl) Dolinski and the late Walter Dolinski. After graduating from high school, she went to work for Michigan Bell in the billing department for 15 years. On December 5, 1960, she was united in marriage to John C. Pechette at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Detroit. They moved to a farm near Pinnebog the following year. Mildred raised her family and helped John on the farm. She was very active in her church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She also was the memorial donations coordinator for the American Cancer Society in the area for many years until operations were turned over to the Bay City Region. She enjoyed dancing, singing and traveling around the states. Surviving are her husband, John; four children, Susan (Mark) Cook, of Holt, Thomas (Traci) Pechette, of Kinde, Joyce Pechette, of Cardiff, California, and Jon (Denise) Pechette, of Grand Blanc; her mother, Veronica Dolinski, of Bad Axe; eight grandchildren, Paul, Samantha, Jared, Alexander, Adam, Emilie, Nicole and Andrew; her sister, Gloria (Stanley) Filar, of Washington; and a brother, William (Ruth) Dolinski, of Clinton Township. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. A parish scripture service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
