Alexander Marie Ann Alexander, 78, of Bay Port, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2006, at Home Sweet Home Retirement Manor in Pigeon. She was born in Bay Port on November 18, 1927, daughter of the late Bertrand and Alberta Baur. She graduated valedictorian of the Bay Port High School class of 1945. On February 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to William M. Alexander at the Bay Port Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1987 after 41 years of marriage. Mrs. Alexander was an active member of the Civil Air Patrol during her earlier years. She participated with the Port Austin Players and sang for many years with the Sweet Adelines. For 24 years, she was a teacher's aid at the Bay Port School and was known as the go-to woman whenever someone wanted a job done. She was an avid Laker athletics sports fan and booster. She loved gardening, knitting, and baking, and especially enjoyed being with her family. She was an active and faithful member of the Bay Port United Methodist Church. She is survived by three sons, Greg Alexander and his wife, Charlene, of Bay Port, Brian Alexander and his wife, B.J., of Aleknagik, Alaska, and Pete Alexander and his wife, Becky, of Midland; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Connie Lundgren, and Pauline and her husband, Frank Kelly, both of Bay Port; four brothers, Roger Baur and his wife, Sheila, of San Antonio, Texas, David Baur and his wife, Bernice, of Lansing, Joe Baur and his wife, Charlene, of Bay Port, and James Baur, of Bay Port; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Billy, and a daughter, Jill. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2006, at the Bay Port United Methodist Church with the Rev. Krall, 80, of Toledo, died Friday, February 17, 2006, after a brief illness at Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit. She was born March 15, 1925 in Port Austin to Louis and Martha (Ignash) Yaroch. She married Frank Krall on February 10, 1945 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church in Detroit. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1991 after 46 years of marriage. She was a 1970 graduate of Mary Manse College in Toledo with a bachelor of science degree and a 1975 graduate of University of Toledo with a master of education degree. She was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She had been a school teacher for St. Vincent's DePaul in Toledo, St. Joseph School in Erie, and 20 years with Washington Local School District in Toledo, retiring in 1989. After retirement, she had been employed by Meijer, Inc. in Toledo as a salesclerk and then for The Anderson's in the produce department for five years. She is survived by a son, Franklin L. (Ellen) Krall, of Temperance; daughter, Marian L. (Robert) McMullen, of Monroe; five grandchildren, Justin (Shelley) Krall, Jessica Krall, Jonathan Krall, Shannon (Chad) MacDonald, and Robert McMullen, Jr.; brother, Clarence (Gloria) Yaroch; and sisters, Gertrude Jaworski, and Josephine Schramski, all of Port Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Louis, Thomas, Edwin, and Raymond Yaroch. Anna Marie Miller Anna Marie Miller, 84, of Port Austin and a former resident of Bad Axe, died February 19, 2006 in Port Austin. She was born January 2, 1922 in Parisville to the late John and Jane (Lockwood) Kladzyk. She was united in marriage to Irven Paul Miller on December 31, 1941 in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2000 after 59 years of marriage. Anna graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1940. She lived in Bad Axe and worked as a nursing assistant and purchasing agent until her retirement in 1971. After retirement, Anna moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe and enjoyed baking and raising her children. She is survived by one son, Irven Paul Miller, Jr., of Cape Coral, Florida; four daughters, Marcella Jane Scott, and Mary Carol Miller, both of Port Austin, Ethel Marie Miller and Patricia Ann Miller, both of Ann Arbor; one sister, Ethel Jean, of Palm Beach, Florida; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Michelle Ann Miller; one son, Robert John Miller; and three brothers, Frank, Zeke, and John Kladzyk. A scripture service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Monday. Donald L. Otto Donald Loren Otto, 78, of Pigeon, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2006, at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. He was born in Pigeon on March 10, 1927, son of the late John and Lora (Gremel) Otto. He served with the U. S. Army in Germany during World War II. On June 12, 1948, he was united in marriage to Jessie Elizabeth Beadle at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. She survives him. Don was employed by the Village of Pigeon from 1950 to1987. In 1970, he became Superintendent of Public Works, where he served until his retirement. He took part in the development and beautification of Pigeon and was honored as the 1997 Grand Marshall of the Farmers Festival parade. On July 25, 2003, during the Pigeon Centennial, he won the "Best Beard" contest. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Berne. In addition to his wife, Jessie, to whom he had been married for more than 57 years, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gahl and David Mitin, of Bay City, and Beth and Paul Schnitker, of Sebewaing; three grandchildren, Michael Mitin, Tamara & Michael Hartman, and Christina Schnitker; two brothers, Clarence (Florence) Otto, of Pigeon, and Dale (Rita) Otto, of Bad Axe; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Merle; and a sister, Arlene Mohr. Jessy Lowell Kornelson Jessy L. Kornelson, 27, of Deford, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 17, 2006, at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born February 27, 1978 in Wyandotte, Michigan to Leonard and Deborah (Lizotte) Kornelson. Jessy graduated from Cass City High School. He loved sports of all kinds and had a great memory when it came to sports. In high school, Jessy played soccer and baseball. He enjoyed everything from horseshoes to badminton to ping pong and was a golf addict. Jessy also enjoyed fishing. Jessy is survived by his mother, Deborah (Benny) Rhyndress, of Deford; father, Leonard Kornelson, of Arizona; brothers, Ryan (Kelly) Kornelson, of Roseville, Benjamin Rhyndress, of Deford; nephew, Brandon; nieces, Amanda and Kayla; grandparents, Louise Lizotte, of St. Clair Shores, Carol Rhyndress, of St. Helen, Leon Rhyndress, of Prescott; great grandma, Nellie Kornelson, of New Boston; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Mayes Edwin H. Mayes, 74, of Port Austin, died peacefully at Sparrow Hospice of Mid- Michigan in Lansing on Sunday, February 19, 2006. He was born in Port Austin to Edwin E. and Lucy (Goretski) Mayes. He married Jane M. Engemann on October 12, 1957 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Belding. They have three children, Dr. Carrie A. Mayes, of Traverse City, Jill M. Mayes (Paul M. Grippo) of Bedford, New Hampshire, and Jon E. Mayes (Teresa M. Donahue) of Okemos. Their grandchildren are Lucy M. Grippo, Edwin J. Mayes, Maxine M. Grippo, Haley M. Mayes, Henry M.Grippo and Ellen J. Mayes. Ed graduated from Port Austin High School and attended Eastern Michigan University before serving in the U.S. Air Force in England. He and his brother, Raymond J. Mayes, owned and operated Winders Products Company, where they manufactured spirit level vials. Ed was a caring husband, father and grandfather. His daughter-in-law and son-in-law were like his own, and his friendships were long- standing. Over the years, he raised various hunting dogs and since 1975, he raised Standardbred horses, which were trained and driven by his nephew, Jim Mayes' stable at Leslie. His small farm produced a world champion trotter and a multiple futurity-winning pacer. A lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, he had served on the parish council. Ed also served his community as Port Austin Township treasurer and as a Port Austin village council member. He was a long-standing member of the Port Austin Lions Club. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jane; his children and grandchildren; his sister, Venice (Philip) Finan; his brother, Raymond, and his wife, Lynne (Schumacher); brother-in-law, Marcus Flannery, of Bad Axe; and sister-in-law, Sally Mayes, of Mount Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold, and his wife, Betty (McCrea); a sister, Theresa (Marcus) Flannery; brother-in-law, Philip Finan; and daughter, Mary Ann; and brother, Carl, and his son, David. Thursday, February 23, 2006 Mark S. Bencheck Mr. Mark S. Bencheck, 46, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2006. He was born in Cass City on September 2, 1959, son of the late Steve, Jr. and Delores (Rockefeller) Bencheck. On August 27, 1988, he married Kelly Jo Thede. Mark was a member of Gagetown United Methodist Church and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening, and had been employed with Vita Plus as a truck driver for 16 years. His truck driving experience totaled more than 25 years. Mark deeply loved his family, and cherished his daughter, Sidney. Surviving along with Kelly Jo, his wife of 17 years, are daughter, Sidney; a brother, Douglas Bencheck, of Gagetown; sister, Cynthia (Thomas) Mellendorf; nieces and nephews, Chad (Melissa) Mellendorf, Shane Mellendorf, Tyler and Brandy Yanke, and Heather, Amanda and Kyle Thede. Mark's father, Steve, passed away on May 25, 1998; and his mother, Delores, passed away on May 22, 1998. Miller, 88, of Port Austin and formerly of Rapson, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at Courtney Manor of Bad Axe. Earnest was born on January 1, 1918 in Rapson to the late Leo and Frances (Talaski) Miller, above the Blacksmith Shop. He married Margaret Stewart on November 20, 1937 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Port Austin. She preceded him in death on August 6, 1978 after 40 years of marriage. Earnest attended the Rapson School through the eighth grade. He lived in Rapson all his life except he lived with his daughter in Port Austin for the last five years. He farmed in Port Austin and Rapson. He owned and operated the Hi-Speed Ice Cream Parlor in Rapson for 15 years. He was a carpenter for Clyde Tetreau. He worked for Richard Pettit Builder Construction in Port Austin before retiring in 1980. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson, where he served as an altar server and an usher. He was a charter member of the Grindstone Port Hope Sportsman Club. He enjoyed music and playing his mouth organ. He loved dancing, and trapping, hunting, playing euchre, and shuffleboard. Earnest is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Brown, of Port Austin, and her special friend, Ernest Slavick; three grandchildren, Deanna Carpenter and her husband, John, of Warren, Patricia Forth, of Warren, and Gregory Brown, of Port Austin; two great-grandchildren, Jessica Brown, of Roseville, Danielle Brown, of Port Austin; one great-great-grandson, Dylan Grace, of Roseville; sister, Leona Roberts and her husband, Vincent, of Harbor Beach; sister-in- law, Georgena Stewart, of Port Austin; and son-in-law, Donald Brown, of Florida. Pisarek, 103, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at Northwood Meadows, Cass City. He was born in Detroit on August 2, 1902, to the late Matthew and Frances (Czajkowski) Pisarek. He was united in marriage to Stella Darmofal on June 27, 1931 at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Detroit. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2000 after 69 years of marriage. They moved to the Gagetown area in 1946, purchasing the Octagon Barn property. Michael was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church, a past member of the Williamson Farm Bureau, The Gagetown Farmers Club and Owen-Gage Senior Citizens. He was a lifelong farmer and had worked at the Ford Motor Company for 17 years prior to moving to this area. In his earlier years, he enjoyed baseball, playing the piano, and visiting with his family and friends. Surviving are his three sons, Leonard, Michael Jr., (Drucilla), and Bernard, all of the Gagetown area; two grandchildren, Michelle (David) Seavey, of Portland, Mark (Dawn) Pisarek, of Gladwin; five great-grandchildren, Taryn, Ryan, Andrew, Elizabeth, and Matthew, who was born three hours before Michael died; a sister-in-law, Josephine Marsh, of Detroit; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ann; four brothers; five sisters; and several nieces and nephews. Weston Gene Russell Weston, 54, of Pigeon and formerly of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at Scheurer Hospital, Pigeon. Born in Harbor Beach on May 17, 1951, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Arntz) Weston. Gene enjoyed music and dancing and the many activities of the CCL. Surviving are his brother, Timothy Weston, of Stanfield, North Carolina; three sisters, Bonita Whyle and her husband, Joe, of N. Ridgeville, Ohio, Barb Koglin and her husband, Curtis, of Port Hope, and Carol Koglin and her husband, Doug, of Harbor Beach; many nieces and nephews; friends at the Scenic AFC Home in Pigeon; and Judy Stokan and many other caretakers of the Scenic Home. Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Weston, in 1996. Hilton Arlene Mildred Hilton, 91, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2006, with her son, Earl Walsh, and daughter-in-law, Kathy Walsh, at her side. She was born on August 3, 1914 in Pigeon to Herbert and Bertha Kreh. She had a wonderful sense of humor and her love of travel took her on trips to Alaska, New Zealand, and a solo trip to Africa. She has lived in Fort Myers for five years after moving from Crystal River, Florida. She is survived by her children, son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Kathleen Walsh, of Fort Myers, Florida; daughter, Maryann McLeod, of Pensacola, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Alice Walsh, of Pensacola, Florida; and daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dennis Boyer, of New Baltimore; 10 grandchildren, Diana Sprowl, Norman Walsh, Debra McLeod, Robert McLeod, Dale McLeod, Pamela Glazebrook, Jeffrey Walsh, Jeannie Mrak, Thomas Boyer, and Janice Bennefield; and 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alvin Kreh, of Kinde. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Hilton, who died in 1999, and her sisters, Helen Mott, and Grace Smith, and her brother, James Kreh. Memorial services will be held in Caseville in the spring on a date to be announced. Clarence J. Hyde Clarence J. Hyde, 72, of Caseville, died suddenly Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon of a heart attack. Clarence was born December 5, 1933 in Springboro, Pennsylvania, to the late Willis and Mary Ann (Randall) Hyde. After finishing school in Pennsylvania, he joined the U.S. Navy. While stationed in Chicago, he met his future wife, Virginia Mae Wilson, of Detroit. They married in Detroit on June 6, 1953. After Clarence left the service, the family settled in Madison Heights. Clarence worked for Chrysler for 39 years, retiring in 1997 from the Sterling Heights Stamping Plant. The family had been vacationing in Caseville since 1964; in 1975, they bought a place and in 1997, they moved to Caseville permanently. Clarence was a quiet man who enjoyed tinkering and fixing things, working puzzles, reading, and spending time with his family. Clarence is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia; children, Kathy (John) Giszcazak, of Willis, Terry Mazzoni, of Pennsylvania, Mark, of Hazel Park, Robert, of Caseville, Linda Wilson, of Arizona, and Richard, of Virginia; grandchildren, Marnie, Joseph, Amanda, Judy, Shane, Annie, and Christopher; great-grandchildren, Justin, Clara and June; and brothers, Donald, of Florida, and Richard Bushore, of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Lewis, Vance; and sister, Mary Jane Everly. A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, February 25, 2006, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville. Kanyak, 74, of Fenton, died Sunday, January 29, 2006, at Brian's House in Davison after a long fight with cancer and kidney failure. He was born on July 19, 1931, the son of the late Michael and Erma (Watts) Kanyak. Junior was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne, and the Korean War. He married Elna (Schuette) Richmond on April 15, 1967 and they resided in Fenton all of their married lives. He was employed by Fenton Area Public Schools as the public transportation supervisor until his retirement in 1987. He was a life member of the Fenton V.F.W. Curtis-Wolverton Post No. 3243, where he served on the honor guard for 17 years. Junior is survived by his wife of 38 years, Elna; three daughters, Deborah (Eddie) Hensley, Patricia (Dale) Rickard, both of Roanoke, Virginia, Pamela (Gerard) Pouliot, of Midland; one son, Michael (Jeanette) Kanyak, of Linden; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, Cynthia Carmer, of Davison; two step-sons, Charles (Denise) Richmond, of Fenton, Gerald (Jean) Richmond, of Swartz Creek; four step-grandchildren; four step-great- grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn (Harry) Renn, of Elkton; one brother, Donald (Sylvia) Kanyak, of Caseville; and one brother-in-law, Nick Ovcen, also of Caseville. Aurelia Milagros "Mila" (Nepomuceno) Brunner Mila Brunner, 70, of Kingston, died Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at Marlette Hospice Residence in Marlette after a long illness. She was born November 12, 1935 in Manila, Philippines to Perfecto and Dolores (Alvarez) Nepomuceno. She married Robert J. Brunner on April 23, 1962 in Southfield. Mila finished high school at age 14. She graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, at 18 (magna cum laude in Chemistry) and from the University of Detroit with masters degrees in Chemistry and Library Science. She worked as a Chemical Information Technologist for Parker Rustproof/Oxymetal in Detroit; Shell Oil, in Houston, Texas for 18 years; Argon National Laboratories in Chicago for three years; and General Motors, Warren. Recently Mila has worked in Davenport College's library system in Bad Axe, Saginaw, Caro, Midland and Bay City. She was active in parish activities as a catechist, lector, Eucharistic minister. Mila was active in Girl Scouts as a troop leader, adult trainer and while in Texas, she chaired the Galveston-Houston Diocesan Committee on Catholic Girl Scouting. Mila volunteered with the Community Development in Caro. She loved traveling and reading. Mila is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert; children, Christine (David) Agnew, of Clarkston, Robert (Trixie Enriquez) Brunner, Jr. of Santa Monica, California, Megan (Steven) Kretzing, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Scott Agnew, Jonathan Agnew, and her third grandchild, baby Kretzing, due in March; siblings, Emerita Sevilla, of California, Perfecto (Juanita) Nepomuceno, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Adrian (Teresita) Nepomuceno, of Vancouver, British Ccolumbia, Canada, Bienvenido (Milagros) Nepomuceno, of Diamond Bar, California; stepmother, Josefa Peconcillo Nepomuceno, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; many nieces, nephews and godchildren whom she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Perfecto Nepomuceno and Delores Alvarez and siblings, Eunice, Rene, and Trinidad. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2006, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Wilmot with the Rev. Reginaldo Salcedo and Sr. Ricccardina Silvestri presiding. Kramer, 98, of Harbor Beach and formerly of Ubly, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2006, at the Harbor Beach Long Term Care Facility. Helen was born on December 31, 1907 in Klacking Creek, daughter of the late Englebert and Caroline (Buhlman) Walter. She married Marcus W. Kramer on November 27, 1930 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in the West Branch area, currently known as Holy Family Church. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1992 after 61 years of marriage. Helen attended a country school in the West Branch area. She was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company and Packard Motors in Detroit. She was a parishioner at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Detroit for four years and at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helena for 40 years. She was a parishioner at St. John's Catholic Church in Ubly since 1975. Helen is survived by one son, Lloyd ,and his wife, Sharon, of Harbor Beach; 12 grandchildren, Vanessa Kramer, of Bay City, Marcus and Jonathon Kramer, both of Troy, Adam Kramer, of Harbor Beach, Sara Kramer, of Okemos, Sean Kramer, of Ft. Carson Army Base, Colorado, Brian, Gina, Alicia, Kyle, Dana, and Marla Kramer, all of Harbor Beach. She was preceded in death by seven sisters, Edwina Rau, Alma Wangler, Lucille Brindley, Rosetta Green, Loretta Walter, Dorothy Brindley, and Virginia Sapp and her husband, Charles; four brothers, William, Michael, Donald, and Russell Walter. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2006, at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. The Rev. T.J. Fleming, pastor, will preside. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Bertha M. Leese Bertha M. Leese, 87, of Port Hope, passed away Thursday morning, February 23, 2006, in the long term care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Port Hope on November 30, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Emma (Liedke) Engel. On January 22, 1938, Bertha was united in marriage to Berthold Leese in Port Hope. Berthold preceded her in death on June 3, 2001 after 63 years of marriage. Together they farmed in Rubicon Township. Bertha was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. She enjoyed making quilts for her family as well as sewing, baking, and being in her garden. Surviving are her children, Dale Leese and his wife, Linda, of Flushing, Elmer Leese and his wife, Ruth, of Port Hope, Susan Reinke and her husband, Richard, of Port Hope, and Diana Richards and her husband, Ralph, of Snover; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Esther Leese, of Port Hope. Bertha was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Leese; two brothers, Walter and Robert Engel; and five sisters, Martha Miller, Anna Gentner, Ida Schultz, Lydia Schmidt, and Eilda Steinbis. Lucy Mazure Miss Lucy Mazure, 107, of the Parisville area, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2006, at her residence after a short illness. Arrangements are being handled by the Zinger- Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly. Tony Roberts Tony Roberts, 63, of Ferndale and formerly of Bay Port, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2006. He was born on March 21, 1942. He is survived by a son, Jeffery Roberts; sisters, Mary A. Croteau, of Canton, Dorothy F. Roberts, of Ferndale; a brother, James E. Roberts, of Bay Port; and several nieces and nephews. He will be eternally missed by his loving family and the many friends he made. A memorial service to celebrate his life is planned for early spring. Robert F. Scherzer Robert F. Scherzer, 77, of Frankenmuth, died Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at Covenant Health Care-Cooper after a lengthy illness. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2006, at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Ehlert will officiate with burial in St. John's Cemetery.
