Bond, 89, of Cass City, died Friday, August 18, 2006, in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro. She was born April 3, 1917 at home in Greenleaf Township to Stephen A. and Lillian (Vogel) Decker. She married Charles E. Bond on April 10, 1937 in Cass City. He died November 6, 1969. Clara farmed with her husband and over the years, she worked for Lapeer Regional Center, Eichers and Kings Dry Cleaners, Caro Regional Center, Stockyard Restaurant and Gambles. She was a member of Cass City First Presbyterian Church. Clara loved cooking, baking and gardening. She also painted china and quilted with Elmwood Quilting Circle. Clara is survived by her children, Bette Lou (Lynn) Hurford, of Cass City, Karen (Robert) Damm, of Pigeon, Susan (Chuck) Rubey, of Cass City; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; eight great great grandchildren and two stepgreat grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Jackson, of Ubly; sister-in-law, Helen Decker; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Emma Decker; a brother, Jerry Decker; and stepbrothers, Walter Nadiger and Harold Nadiger; and great granddaughter, Cayla Hurford. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2006, in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, with Rev. David Blackburn, of Cass City First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Pallbearers for Mrs. Bond are Scott Hurford, Paul Rubey, Mark Henry II, Keith Kohtz, David Siebel and Grant Hurford. Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. Harold L. Cubitt Harold Leslie Cubitt, 95, of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, August 18, 2006, at his home. He was born August 8, 1911 in Moore Township to the late Leslie and Emma (Vanderveer) Cubitt. He was united in marriage to Vera Kenny on June 3, 1933. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2005 after 71 years of marriage. Harold graduated from Sandusky High School in 1929. He attended Central Michigan University through completion of his teaching certification. While there, he played violin in the orchestra and participated in several Cherry Blossom Festivals put on by the university throughout the state. He taught K-8th grade at the Minard School his first year of teaching and then spent nine years teaching K-8 at the Elmer school on M-19 in Elmer Township, Sanilac County. During this time, he was a violinist and member of the Snover Orchestra. Harold spent 30 years as a postal clerk and Civil Service examiner in Sandusky. Harold was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe. He was a longtime member of the Sandusky Lions Club and was a life member of the Masonic Lodge in Sandusky. He was a 4-H leader for 37 years. After retirement, he and his wife, Vera, enjoyed their winter home in Englewood, Florida for more than 30 years. Harold enjoyed hunting and gardening his entire life and shot his last buck at age 90. He is survived by three daughters, Shirley Garrity, of Bath, Sharon Heck, of Whittier, California, and Janie (David) Ridner, of Bad Axe; three sons, H. Dale (Marilynn) Cubitt, of Bad Axe, E. Duane (Doralyn) Cubitt, of Bad Axe, and L. Elwin (Joan) Cubitt, of Bad Axe; daughter- in-law, Jane Cubitt, of Marysville; 37 grandchildren; 68 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Dora (Paul) Hart, of Kentucky, and Helen VanCamp, of Jeddo. He was preceded in death by one son, Eugene F. Cubitt; a son-in-law, Keith Garrity; sister, Lucille Eddy and her husband, James; and three brothers-in-law, Elwin Kenny, E. Carlyle Kenny, and Fred VanCamp. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe. Officiating will be Rev. Greg Rowe, pastor. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sandusky. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe, and at 10 a.m. on Monday at the church until the time of the service. Deer Amy Ann Deer, 30, of Port Hope, passed away Friday, August 18, 2006, from injuries she received in an auto accident near Port Hope. Born October 21, 1975 in Harbor Beach, she was the daughter of Harlen and Ann (Frey) Reinke. On August 16, 1997, Amy and Daniel Deer were united in marriage in St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Amy was an employee of Dr. James Hirn, DDS, in Harbor Beach, and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Amy enjoyed and was very interested in scrapbooking. She also loved her family very much and enjoyed camping and the family campfires. Surviving are her husband, Dan, of Port Hope; her children, Skyler, Riley, and Baylee Deer, all at home; parents, Harlen and Ann Reinke, of Port Hope; two sisters, Heather Kowalski, and her husband Ted, of Harbor Beach, and Kimberly Clink, and her husband, Michael, of Forestville; a brother, Kurtiss Reinke, of Jacksonville, Florida; maternal grandmother, Geraldine Rismiller and her husband, Robert, of Forestville; godparents, David and Ann Reinke, of Mt. Morris; father and mother-in-law, Earl and Jane Deer, of Harbor Beach; brothers-in-law, Glen and Courtney Deer, of Harbor Beach, Randy and Ann Deer, of Harbor Beach, and Kevin and Kathy Deer, of Harbor Beach; grandmother-in-laws, Evelyn Deer, of Harbor Beach, and Mary Wolschlager, of Ruth. Bezemek, 91, resident of Bad Axe, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at the Courtney Manor Nursing Home in Bad Axe. She was born July 30, 1915 to the late Lyle and Mildred (Knirs) Spencer. Rosalind was married to John "Jack" Bezemek who preceded her in death in 1953. She retired after 20 years of employment at the Huron County Medical Care Facility as a nurse's aid. Rosalind enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and playing dominos. She is survived by two sons, Michael (Linda) Bezemek, of Caseville, and William (Mary), of California; a sister, Dorothy (Arthur) Koss, of Harbor Beach; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. According to her wishes, there will be no services or visitation. Arrangements are being handled by the MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe. Joseph Wayne Champagne Joseph Wayne Champagne, 54, of Texarkana, Texas, passed away suddenly from heart problems on Friday, August 18, 2006, at a hospital in Texarkana. He was born January 13, 1952 in Bad Axe to Virginia (Redmond) Champagne Wing and the late Ervin Champagne. Joe married Joann Cooper on September 15, 1974 at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville. They parted in 1995. Joe lived in Huron County until 1996, when he moved to Texas. In February of 2000, he married Cathy L. Watson in Washington State. He was a 1971 Laker High School graduate. Joe was employed at Cornerstone Retirement Center as a maintenance technician in Texarkana and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Cathy; as well as his two daughters who loved him very much, Adrianna Marden and her husband, David, of Midland, Sarah Lane and her husband, John, of South Lyon; four granddaughters, Jessica, Shelby, Destiny, and Montana; his mother, Virginia Wing; six brothers and sisters, Mary (Tom) Nelson, Richard (Maggie) Champagne, Connie (Ron) Kuch, Kathy Swartzendruber, Bev (Dean) Osentoski, and Susie (Steve) Ellery. Preceding him in death were his father; and two brothers, Edward and Ervin Jr. A memorial service was conducted Monday afternoon in Texarkana at the Chapelwood Funeral Home. Local memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2006, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville. "Orv" Friedland, 45, of Port Hope, passed away Monday, August 21, 2006, at Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born September 24, 1960 in Harbor Beach, he was the son of Willet and Joyce (Green) Friedland. Orv was a self-employed carpenter and a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. He was a former member of the Port Hope Grindstone Sportsman Club and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He is survived by his parents, Joyce and Willet Friedland, of Port Hope; his step-children, Brooke Schultz, of Indian River, Nicholas Schultz, of Bad Axe, and Heather Schultz, of Pigeon; six step-grandchildren; grandmother, Gladys Green, of Bad Axe; aunts and uncles, Dorothy Woychowski, of Harbor Beach, and Maxine and William Green, of Sandusky. Orv was preceded in death by his brother, James Friedland, in 2004. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2006, in St. John Lutheran Church, Port Hope, with the Rev. Reno, 66, of Pigeon and formerly of Flint, died Monday, August 21, 2006, at home. Jerry was born in Bay City on December 30, 1939, the son of Floyd and Marie (Collicker) Reno. Jerry served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time in the Upper Penninsula at his hunting camp. Surviving are his sister, Sharon Martin, of Flushing; brother, Larry and his wife, Karen, Reno, of Scottsdale, Arizona; three nephews; two nieces; three great-nephews; one great- niece; special friends and neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Quick. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Harold Martin. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2006, at Rossell Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Klein officiating. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Baker, 68, of Paulding, Ohio, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana. She was born September 22, 1937 in Bad Axe, the daughter of Ewald E. and Vera E. (Decker) Beyer. On April 12, 1975, she married David J. Baker. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1983. She was the 1955 Valedictorian for Pigeon High School, Pigeon. She was a secretary/bookkeeper/receptionist for Cook- Troth-Burkard Law Firm, Paulding, retiring in 2002 after 25 years. She was a member and treasurer of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Paulding, where she was also a member of the Rachel Circle. She is survived by a son, James Siewert, of Pigeon; two daughters, Beth (Les) Swartzendruber, of Bay Port, and Stacie (companion Mark Harris) Siewert, of Haviland, Ohio; brother, Jerry (Linda) Beyer, of Bay Port; sister, JoAnn (Alvin) Abbott, of Pigeon; ten grandchildren, Stephanie Kretzschmer, Kellie, Michael, Jeremy, Courtney, and Cpl. Nicholas Siewert, Justin, Brandon and Janelle Swartzendruber and Aaron Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Donations may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Church or the Rachel Circle. Dorothy M. Lotter Dorothy M. Lotter, 98, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at the Northwood Meadows in Cass City. Mrs. Lotter lived in Silverwood since 1952, and was previously from the Elkton area. She was born May 13, 1908 in Pinnebog, daughter of the late George and Nellie (Peterson) Dumaw. She graduated from Pinnebog High School and attended County Normal. Dorothy received her teaching certificate from Central Michigan University. She married Clifton Lotter on August 28, 1934 in Pinnebog. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1985. She taught 28 years in area country schools until her retirement in 1973. She was a member of the Nazarene Church in Marlette and Dayton Center Church in Mayville. She is survived by three sons, Don and Rita Lotter, of Clifford, Orlin and Linda Lotter, of Silverwood, Russell and Donna Lotter, of Caro; three daughters, Sharon and Aaron Stanfield, of Waterford, Jan and Harry Steele, of Caro, Marilynn Lotter, of Silverwood; a sister, Helen Reiswig, of California; 19 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Shirley Lee Lotter; brothers, Arthur, Earl, Harold, and Burton Dumaw; sisters, Leita Purdy and Beatrice Tamblyn. Schave, 87, of Port Hope, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2006, in Courtney Manor Nursing Center, Bad Axe. Born June 9, 1919 in Rubicon Township near Harbor Beach, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Kessel) Krueger. On March 8, 1951, Hilmuth and Earl Schave were united in marriage in Port Hope. Earl preceded her in death in July 2005. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope and enjoyed playing cards and visiting with family and friends. Hilmuth is survived by her children, Joann Cove and her husband, Robert, of Bad Axe, Bryce Schave, of Port Hope, Wanda Srebinski and her husband, Ronald, of Sandusky, Lyle Schave, of Port Hope, Carol Schave and her husband, John Wicker, of Commerce Township. and Charlene Sharrard and her husband, Martin, of Port Huron; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a great- granddaughter, Jodie Marie Emerick; and a brother Elmer Krueger.
