(Bardell) Brown, 66, of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 6, 2006, at Lourdes Hospital after an extended illness. Cremation has taken place. Mary Jane was the daughter of the late William O. Bardell and the late Lorraine (Apley) Bardell Glasgow Woolner. When she was young, Mary Jane liked to play the piano and sew. In later years, she loved to knit, crochet, cook, garden and do word puzzles. She also loved the pets she had over the years. As a girl, she attended Becking School, Bad Axe Public Schools, and Bad Axe Church of Nazarene. Mary Jane will be missed by her family and friends in Michigan and in Paducah where she lived for many years. She is survived by her children, Mary Glasgow (Paul) Burnett, Kathaleen Glasgow (Jeff) Shannon, Gene (Amber) Kovach, and Sue Ostrander (Jeff) Pawlak; 10 grandchildren, Dale, George, Heather, Mackenzie (Josh), Allyce, Daniel, Rebekah, Savannah, Leah and Jacob; two sisters, Marie (Mike) Isbister and Sarah (Walt) Wilson; one brother, Sam (Liz) Glasgow, of Bad Axe; her first husband, William (Doris) Hubbard; good friend, Edith Joiner, of Paducah, Kentucky; aunts and uncles, Bernice, Alta (Joe), Marge (Lowell), Inez (Al), Alice, Susan and Lois; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and special cousins, Judy (Elmer) Ostrander, and special aunt, Marge (the late George Kovach). Mary Jane was preceded in death by spouse, Ardell Brown; children, Tina, Jacqueline, and Owen; her parents; step-father, Thomas A. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2006, at the New River Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. William Thorn officiating. Interment will be at New River Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family or Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene. Verla Mosey Verla Mosey, 86, of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, May 19, 2006, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born June 4, 1919 in Elkton to the late Elroy and Frankie (Hutchinson) Motz. In April 1951, she was united in marriage with Franklin Mosey. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1998. Mrs. Mosey was a lifelong resident of Huron County. She is survived by one son, Stephen Mosey, of Irwin, Tennessee; and one sister, Minnie (Doug) Brackenberry, of Bad Axe. She was preceded in death by one son, David Mosey. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2006, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. The Rev. Lorraine Lackowski Mrs. Lorraine Lackowski, 75, of Bad Axe and formerly of Parisville, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2006, at her residence under hospice care. She was born on January 22, 1931 in Harbor Beach to the late Andrew and Emma (Kosal) Schulte. She married William F. Lackowski on October 7, 1950 at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1993. Lorraine attended the East Huron Rural School through third grade and went on to Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School in Harbor Beach where she graduated in 1950. She worked at several different jobs while raising her family including farming and gardening. She and her husband became owners of the Parisville Hotel for 25 years before she retired eight years ago. They sponsored softball and bowling teams and hosted card clubs and pheasant tail contests where much food and fun was had by all who passed by or stopped over. Bill and Lorraine were members of the Michigan Beverage Association. Lorraine enjoyed being a tour leader for Big Daddy Tours from 1994 to 2004. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where she also was a member of the Rosary Sodality. Lorraine is survived by two daughters, Patricia Eicher, of Frankenmuth, Betty Deachin and her husband, Carey, of Ogden, Utah; three sons, Ronald Lackowski and his wife, Doreen (Pichla), of Bad Axe, Daniel Lackowski and his wife, Karen (Bensinger), of Ubly, Robert Lackowski and his wife, Colleen (Peruski), of Vicksburg; 13 grandchildren, Chad Wilson and his wife, Jeanette (Drago), of Ft. Kathryn Mac Eachin Mrs. Kathryn "Katie" Mac Eachin, 85, of Ubly, passed away Friday, May 19, 2006, at her daughter's residence under hospice care. She was born on October 17, 1920 in Detroit to the late John and Anna (Sajetski) Guitar. She married Angus "Gus" Mac Eachin on October 14, 1942 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1988. Katie was raised in Ruth and attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School. She worked as a waitress in the Ubly coffee shop. She also worked with her husband and family at Mac Eachin Insurance Company of Ubly. She was a parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly since 1945 and was a very active member of St. John's Christian Mothers Circle No. 4, Queen of Angels. She was a member and former president of the T.V.O. No. 1 Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Wildflowers Association for World Travel and Mind Enrichment. She worked at the Ubly Homecoming and the Alabama Jubilee for many years. She enjoyed insurance conventions, playing cards, bagpipe music, entertaining, and flower gardening. She truly loved her grandchildren and enjoyed visiting her family in Florida. Katie is survived by her children, Janice McGurk and her husband, Larry, of Longwood, Florida, Joan Wilson and her husband, John, of Macomb Township, Jane Ann Mac Eachin, of East Tawas, John Mac Eachin and his wife, Barbara, of Lapeer, Douglas Mac Eachin, of Kissimmee, Florida; seven grandchildren, Kelly Baranic, Katie Strong and her husband, Matthew, Kenzie Mannino and her husband, Rodney, Michael McGurk, Patrick McGurk and his wife, Marie, Lacy Minard and her husband, Quinn, and Kelly Watkins; four great- grandchildren, Kayla and Carson Strong and Eva and Josephine Mannino. Zimmerman, 61, of Gagetown, died Thursday, May 18, 2006, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw, following a long illness. He was born November 4, 1944 in Roseville to Nicholas and Alma (Schroeder) Zimmerman. Nicholas died shortly thereafter and Alma married Richard Mouton and the two raised Allen and his siblings. Allen married Charlotte I. Paridee on April 24, 1963 in Mt. Clemens. Allen worked for Tower Automotive in Sebewaing for 19 years, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed Bingo, Old Car shows and cruises. But, most important in Allen's life was his children and grandchildren and spending time with them. Allen is survived by his wife, Charlotte; sons, Allen N. (Connie) Zimmerman, Jr., of Muskegon, Gary D. Gabriel Esther C. Gabriel, 91, of Port Austin, died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at the Henry Ford Continuing Care Center in Roseville. She was born on April 28, 1915 in Des Moines, Iowa, daughter of the late Albin and Ida (Mattson) Dahlberg. She married Donald Gabriel on November 20, 1943 in Detroit. Donald preceded her in death on December 28, 2005. Esther was a member of the United Protestant Church in Port Austin and former member of Redemption Lutheran Church in Detroit. Esther's family would like to thank the village of Port Austin for their kindness, love and friendship during their parents' retirement. Esther is survived by one son, Charles (Susan) Gabriel, of St. Johns; one daughter, Janice (Robert) McKenzie, of St. Clair Shores; seven grandchildren, Jason (Kelia), Nicholas, Lauren, Molly, Becca, Beth and Mike; and one sister, Ruth DeBruin, of Bloomfield Hills. Tuesday, May 23, 2006 Judith Diane Brown Judith Diane Brown, 69, of Bad Axe, completed her walk through life and went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 20, 2006. She was born March 9, 1937 in Detroit, daughter of the late Russell D. and Catherine M. (Sass) Lee. She graduated in 1955 from Bad Axe High School and in 1968 from Western Michigan University with a degree in special education. Judith was united in marriage to her childhood sweetheart, William F. Brown on January 30, 1960 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bad Axe. In her early years, she worked at the former Reid's Drug Store and at Michigan Bell Telephone Company. After graduating from college, she taught for several years at Bad Axe Public Schools. She completed her working years co-managing the Brown Egg Company with her husband. She retired in 1991, to enjoy the remainder of her life as a homemaker and companion. Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, William, of Bad Axe; two brothers, Richard D. (Linda) Lee, of Flint, and Douglas J. (Patricia) Lee, of Bad Axe; two nieces and two nephews. According to her wishes, Judith's remains have been cremated at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Her ashes will be committed privately at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. McAlpine, 90, of Elkton, died Sunday evening, May 21, 2006, with her family gathered at her side at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was born October 9, 1915 in McKinley Township at the home of her parents, the late John and Rachel (Oesch) Kipfer. When she was two months old, Iva moved to Canada with her grandmother after her mother died. At age 7, she came back to Huron County and lived near Linkville. She was united in marriage to George A. McAlpine on March 6, 1937 at the Owendale Methodist Church. Iva and George raised their children and worked the family farm near Owendale. He preceded her in death in August 1950. She brought her family to Elkton later that year. Iva attended the Community Wesleyan Church in Elkton. She enjoyed gardening and canning, but mostly loved being with her family. Surviving are her children, Delmar (Marty) McAlpine, of Elkton, Charlene (Jim) Trisch, of Pickford, Georgeann (Dave) McDowell, of Elkton, Sandra (Ron) Brill, of Caro, Carol (Bill) Bodziak, of Attica, Dave (Hazel) McAlpine, of Pigeon, and Christina (Steve) Schulz, of Owendale; 28 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; a step-daughter, Barbara Kundinger, of Sebewaing; and a son-in-law, David Swiastyn, of Grant Township. Schave, 80, of Port Hope, died Monday, May 22, 2006, near Port Hope following an apparent heart attack. Born November 22, 1925 in Port Hope, he was the son of the late Adolph and Alice (Stermburg) Schave, Sr. Adolph was a life long farmer and enjoyed working with cattle and the farm. Surviving are two brothers, Erwin (Helen) Schave and Oscar (Trawadon) Schave, both of Port Hope; six sisters, Ruby Tabaczynski, of Detroit, Rosetta Perdue, of Kinde, Olga Frazer, of Clyde, Inez Johnson, of Lapeer, Louise McCauley, of Kimball, and Virginia (Bill) Irwin, of Kimball; and several nieces and nephews. Sopczynski, 83, of Harbor Beach, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at his home with hospice care. Born August 2, 1922 in Erie, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John and Annastacia (Cerwinski) Sopczynski. Stan was a veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre. Stanley and Agnes Koss were united in marriage on December 7, 1953 in Harbor Beach. He was an employee at the Harbor Beach Community Schools, retiring in 1984. He's also a former employee of the Our Lady of Lake Huron Schools and former telephone installer, retiring in 1960. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church where he served as an usher for 35 years. He's also a member of the Men's Club and the Knights of Columbus OLLH Council 11432. Stan was a life member of the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach where he served as past commander and sergeant at arms. He also was on the competitive Drill Team that competed at various levels around the state. Stan also was a life member of the VFW Post 9344 of Harbor Beach and a 50-year member of the IEW Union in Grand Rapids. Stan is survived by his wife, Agnes Sopczynski, of Harbor Beach, and his children, Robert, of Harbor Beach, Rodney (Susan), of Indianapolis, Indiana, Larry (Jan), of Bay City, Mike (Cindy), of Harbor Beach, Patrick (Sharon), of Bridgeport, James (Debbie), of Deckerville, Sandy (Dave) Saunders, of Midland, Joseph (Ann), of Harbor Beach, Stanley Jr., of Port Hope, and Linda Eggert, of Birch Run; 24 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Stan was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew; a daughter-in-law, Anne Sopczynski; and a brother, Joseph Sopczynski. Lutz, 79, of Sebewaing, died unexpectedly Monday, May 22, 2006, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born January 1, 1927 in Kilmanagh, son of the late Carl and Alma (Gettel) Lutz. He was united in marriage to Marion Bitzer on June 19, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Edgar had been a farmer in the Sebewaing area for many years. He also had been employed at the Sebewaing Cooperative Elevator and was a partner in Fournier Gas & Oil Company. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee and was on the stewardship board and finance board for many years. He was a member of the couples club and Riverside Farm Bureau. He also served a term on the Huron County Farm Bureau. He was an avid ball player in his early years for Sebewaing Motor Sales and Sebewaing Brewing Company until he was stricken with polio. He then became an umpire. He also played on the dart ball league for Immanuel. He will be dearly missed by his many feathered friends. Surviving are his wife, Marion; one son, Mark (Penny) Lutz, five daughters, Joanne Harder, Linda (Roger) Engelhardt, all of Sebewaing, Elaine (Bill) Fournier, of Kawkawlin, Shirley (Ellery) Fritz, of Pigeon, Sharon (Mark) Schember, of Elkton; 14 grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vernita Roller and Meta Reithel; one brother, Raymond Lutz; and one grandson, Steven Lutz. Hilton Arlene Mildred Hilton, 91, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2006, with her son, Earl Walsh, and daughter-in-law, Kathy Walsh, at her side. She was born August 3, 1914 in Pigeon to Herbert and Bertha Kreh. Arlene had a wonderful sense of humor and her love of travel took her on trips to Alaska, New Zealand, and a solo trip to Africa. She lived in Fort Myers for five years after moving from Crystal River, Florida. She is survived by her children, Earl (Kathleen) Walsh, of Fort Myers, Florida, Maryann McLeod, of Pensacola, Florida, Richard (Alice) Walsh, of Pensacola, Florida, Sharon (Dennis) Boyer, of New Baltimore; ten grandchildren, Diana Sprowl, Norman Walsh, Debra McLeod, Robert McLeod, Dale McLeod, Pamela Glazebrook, Jeffrey Walsh, Jeannie Mrak, Thomas Boyer, and Janice Bennefield; 13 great- grandchildren; and a brother, Alvin Kreh, of Kinde. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Hilton, who died in 1999; two sisters, Helen Mott and Grace Smith; and her brother, James Kreh. Friday, May 26, 2006 Gertrude "Trudy" Higby Gertrude "Trudy" Higby, 89, formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at her residence in Venice, Florida. LeRoy James "Jim" Swartzendruber LeRoy James "Jim" Swartzendruber, 77, of Pigeon, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center near Bad Axe. He was born July 14, 1928 in Winsor Township near Pigeon, son of the late Jacob and Lydia (Gascho) Swartzendruber. He attended Pigeon High School and graduated from Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas. Jim was united in marriage to Arlene M. Nofzinger on December 6, 1947 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She survives him. He was a Farm Bureau Insurance agent for 23 years, retiring in 1991. He also was a farmer throughout his lifetime. He was a member of The Gideons for many years, and served with Top of the Thumb Leisure Ministries since 1982. He sang with the Pigeon Men's Community Chorus and was a Paul Harris fellow through his membership with the Pigeon Rotary Club. He was an active member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon, where he had sung with the choir and served on the administrative council, both as chairman and a member. In addition to his wife, Arlene, to whom he had been married for more than 58 years, he is survived by three children, Randall James (Iva) Swartzendruber, of Pigeon, Lori Ann (Sam) Funk, of Ypsilanti, and Lisa Jan (James Hubbert) Swartzendruber, of Rochester Hills; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Freda (James) Maust, of Bay Port; a brother-in-law, Elmer Maust, of Pigeon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Swartzendruber, Marie Maust, and Marjorie Maust; and a brother, John Swartzendruber Sr. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2006, at the Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon with the Rev.
