Sunday, January 22, 2006 – No obituaries reported Monday, January 23, 2006 Dorthy May Rose Hale Dorthy May Rose Hale, 81, of Caseville Township, passed away Sunday evening, January 22, 2006, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center in Colfax Township under the care of Hospice Advantage. Dorthy was born August 25, 1924 in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late John and Pearl (Parden) Smith. She lived in Kentucky prior to 2000, when she moved to Caseville to be near her sons. Dorthy will be missed by her two sons, Charles E. (Betty) Rose, of Columbia, Tennessee, and Robert J. (Jenny) Rose, of Caseville; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and all that loved her. A funeral service will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville with Pastor Steve Bouverette, of Owendale Community of Christ Church, officiating. Burial will be on Wednesday at Mt. Hope Memorial Gardens in Livonia. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Francis Fred Ray Francis, 41, of Cass City, died Sunday, January 22, 2006, at his home after a long illness. He was born July 23, 1964 in Cass City to Elmer and Janet (Wright) Francis. He married Deborah Combs on June 5, 1982 in Cass City. Fred graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice. He served in the US Air Force both on active duty in the Gulf War and in the reserves. Fred worked for the Police Department in Fort Worth, Texas, three years on patrol and eight years in special operations. After returning to Michigan, Fred worked with his Dad in construction and then worked as a security officer at various places including NASCAR races. He was a volunteer at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. He worked as a personal protection specialist for many years. Fred enjoyed fishing, martial arts (he held a black belt in Pukang Tang Su Do), spending time with his family and he was a NASCAR fan. Fred is survived by his wife, Deborah; children, Tiffany Francis, of Cass City, Chad Francis, of Cass City; parents, Elmer and Janet Francis, of Cass City; sisters, Debra (Juan) Medrano, of Live Oak, Texas; Donna (Rick) Hartwick, of Cass City; Denise (Dave) Janssen, of Cass City; brother, Bill (Linda) Francis, of Live Oak, Texas; father-in- law and mother-in-law, Bob and Jan Combs, of Muskoggee, Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews. Marian Keating, 80, of Cass City, died Sunday, January 22, 2006, at Northwood Meadows Medical Care Unit. She was born May 9, 1925 in Gaines, Michigan to Walt and Alice (Fox) Miller. She married Robert H. Keating on December 23, 1944 in Cass City. Marian worked for Bell Telephone in Ypsilanti for three years and later opened Sunny Side of the Street Yarn Shop which she ran for about ten years. She was a gifted knitter, taught knitting and loved gardening. Marian was a member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church and the now Cass City United Methodist Church and former president of WSCS through church. She was the chairman of the Building Committee of the Rawson Memorial Library and former president of the Rawson Memorial Library board. Marian was very active with Rawson Memorial Library and Cass City Historical Society. She was a former president of the Friends of the Library and was instrumental in starting the Home Tour fundraiser and was chairman of the Bridal Show fundraiser. Marian was instrumental in working with the historical society in creating the "Living Video" series of Cass City's history and in compiling and creating the 1996 Cass City History Book. Marian is survived by her husband, Robert; sons, Edward (Noreen) Keating, of Bay City, Phil (Maggie) Keating, of Big Rapids; grandchildren, Steven Keating, Ann Keating, and James Keating; sisters, Olga Schram, of White Lake, F. Jean Wilson, of Waterford; special niece, Karen Sussex, of Saline; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Keating. Tuesday, January 24, 2006 Michael Morell Michael Morell, 82, of Onaway and formerly of Ubly, passed away on January 21, 2006, at Hospice House in Cheboygan. He was born on February 6, 1923 in Sanilac County's Austin Township to Isadore and Josephine (Osentoski) Morell. Mike moved from Ubly to Onaway in 1961. Mike's hobbies included his vocation of farming and car racing. He loved to go to races at the Onaway Speedway. He also enjoyed playing the accordion. Zimmer, 73, of Caseville and formerly of St. Clair, died Sunday, January 22, 2006. Gail was born in North Dakota on December 12, 1931. She taught school in Taylor for 33 years until retiring. Gail is survived by her two sons, Brad and Curt Zimmer; her daughter, Pamela Burroughs; grandchildren, Jordan and Gage Burroughs; brothers, Gary (Anna) Engelgau and Bill Engelgau; sister, Ann (Lee) Wetzel; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chet and Minerva Engelgau. Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2006, at the L.C. Wednesday, January 25, 2006 Wesley C. "Wes" Dast Wesley C. Dast, 84, of Pigeon, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born in Bay Port on February 5, 1921, son of the late John W. and Marie T. Amanda (Heck) Dast. He attended the Quarry School. He graduated from St. John's Lutheran School and then attended Pigeon High School. He served with the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II, from 1942-1946. On June 1, 1946, he was united in marriage to Verda L. Reist at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pigeon. She survives him. Wes retired as manager after working 40 years for Kraft, Incorporated, a drainage tiling company. He served on the Winsor Township Board of Review and the Michigan Land Improvement Contractors Association. He was an active lifelong member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was baptized on March 6, 1921 and confirmed on May 27, 1934. He was a former congregation president as well as treasurer, and served on various boards. He and Verda were members of their card club for more than 50 years. In addition to Verda, his wife of almost 60 years, he is survived by two daughters, JoAnn (Roc) Cordes, of Portland, Oregon, and Jean (Dennis) Fritz, of Pigeon; five grandchildren, Seth (Milissa) Cordes, Ami (Jason) Becker, Caleb Cordes, Tera (Keith) Havard, and Joel (Janna) Fritz; two great-grandsons, Parker Havard and Wesley Fritz; a sister, Lois Dast, of Pigeon; a sister- in-law, MariAnne Dast, of Pigeon; several nieces and nephews; and card club members Ruth Hamilton, Alvin and Gladys Rathje, Arthur "Bud" Luedtke, and Richard and Marian Dast. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clare and Donald. Edwards Jr., 67, of Pigeon, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2006, at Covenant Cooper, Saginaw. Boyer, 59, of Kinde, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2006, at Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw. He was born on January 6, 1947 in Jackson, son of the late Walter Boyer and Bonnie (Adams) Pittman. He married Elaine Sommers on September 28, 1968 in Port Hope. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a carrier for the Huron Daily Tribune. Russell is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Kinde; two sons, Russell I. Boyer and his fiancée, Laura Klebba, of Bad Axe, and LeRoy Boyer, of St. Louis, Michigan; two daughters, Mary Elliott, of Bay City, and Jean Petersen, of Bad Axe; step-father, Andrew Pittman, of Bad Axe; one brother, Carl (Patricia) Boyer, of Arizona; two sisters, Donna (Ira) Pyrek, of Kinde, and Helen (Gary) Eisinger, of Port Austin; one grandson, Chad Mosey, of Bad Axe; and five granddaughters, Alisha Boyer and Tiffany Elliott, both of Bay City, Sheila Mosey, Holly Mosey, and Stacey Mosey, all of Bad Axe. Services were conducted on Saturday, January 21, 2006, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Raymond C. Roenisch Raymond C. Roenisch, 88, of Sebewaing, died Tuesday evening, January 24, 2006, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro. He was born July 19, 1917 in Sebewaing, son of the late Martin G. and Helen C. (Wagner) Roenisch. He was married to Leota MendenHall in 1946. She preceded him in death on February 26, 1965. He then married Myrtle Dean on June 27, 1966. She died in 1992. He had been employed at the Sebewaing Brewing Company, as a bottler, and later General Motors in Detroit, and then moved to Atlanta. There he was a motel owner, then he moved to Lewiston and worked at a wood pallet factory. He later was employed as a caretaker. He moved to Sebewaing in 1993. Raymond served in the U.S. Army infantry as an interpreter in Germany during World War II. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are one daughter, Carol Alexander, of Grand Rapids; three granddaughters; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Luther, of Unionville, and Dorothy Winter, of Sebewaing; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2006, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Raymond Orth will officiate with inurnment to take place at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy. Esther L. Doletzke Esther L. Doletzke, 96, of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2006, in the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Port Hope on June 16, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Anna ((Markgraf) Ruppel. On April 15, 1950, Esther and Edward Doletzke were united in marriage in Detroit. Ed preceded her in death on August 18, 1957. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Esther was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Ada Windemuth, Elizabeth Schumann, Emily Scherer, and Emma Ciliak, and by 3 brothers, Alex, Henry, and David Ruppel. Normaleen Jean Root Normaleen Jean Root, 79, of Cass City, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006, in Northwood Meadows Medical Care Unit, Cass City. She was born June 4, 1926 at home in Sanilac County to Ross Glen and Mabel (Hawksworth) Brown. She married James Arthur McIntosh on February 11, 1944 in Pontiac. He died July 11, 1974. She later married Jerome "Jerry" Root on August 31, 1985 in Shabbona United Methodist Church. He died December 31, 2005. Normaleen worked for Walbro Manufacturing for about 20 years. She also worked with her husband on their farm. Normaleen was a member of Cass City Business and Professional Women, Shabbona United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed crocheting and was a wonderful baker. On Sept. 27, 1950 she was united in marriage to the late Joseph Drake in Ohio. Jewell graduated from Summerset High School in Kentucky. She was a church member at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dwight Township. There she was a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She is survived by one son, Frank Drake, of Kinde; one sister, Joyce Hawkes, of Zephyrhills, Florida; one sister-in-law, Doris Guy, of Middleburg, Florida; two grandchildren, Marisa and Josie Drake, of Verona; and many nieces and nephews. Harbin The Rev. David E. Harbin, 69, of Calhoun, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at Redmond Regional Medical Center following several months of declining health. Mr. Harbin was born July 8, 1936 in Huron County, son of the late Lynn and Erma Snider Harbin. He retired from General Motors after 28 years. He was a graduate of Elkton High School class of 1956, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Calhoun First Assembly of God where he served as assistant pastor. Survivors include his wife, Alma Rogers Harbin,to whom he was married in 1978; a son, William L. Harbin, of Charleston, South Carolina; a daughter, Maria Lee, of Denver, Colorado; two grandchildren, Kyle and Mariel; three brothers, Bill Harbin, of Davison, Dale Harbin, of Luddington, Jerry Harbin, of Paradise Valley, Arizona; and one sister, Mary Putnam, of Flint; and nieces and nephews. Law, 89, of Cass City, died Thursday, January 26, 2006, in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro. She was born November 9, 1916 at home in Sanilac County to William and Gertrude (Elliott) Merchant. She married Clinton L. Law on October 16, 1937 in Cass City. He died September 3, 2000. Margaret and Clinton owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. Margaret helped with 4-H while her children participated. She was a member of Cass City First Presbyterian Church for many years. Margaret owned a floral shop in Cass City for several years. She loved flowers especially roses and snapdragons. She loved her little dogs. Margaret is survived by her children, Sherry (Wayne) Dillon, of Cass City, Delbert (Shirley) Law, of Whitmore Lake; grandchildren, Jeff (Julee) Dillon, Scott (Suzanna) Dillon, Elizabeth (Jim) Luke; great- grandchildren, Jaydee Dillon, Drew Dillon, Regan Dillon; many nieces and nephews. Rose was born August 28, 1920 in Ubly to the late John and Frances (Gosdzinski) Pionk. She married Frank Lemanski on October 17, 1939 at Holy Trinity Church in Smith Corners. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1993. She was a graduate of the Bingham Country School. She farmed with her husband until 1973. She then worked for Huron County Medical Care Facility for ten years before retiring in 1983. She was a parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville since 1939, where she was also a member of the Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed bingo, flower gardening and garage sales. Rose is survived by three daughters, Esther Gerhardt and her husband, Bruce, of Waterford, Edith Nowiski and her husband, Ernest, of Harbor Beach, Bonnie Klee and her husband, Dennis, of Ruth; seven grandchildren, Edward and Amanda Gerhardt, Sheldon Nowiski, Sheila Peruski, Sharon Jones, Talisa and Ashley Klee; five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kassandra, and Kendra Peruski, Brooke and Shane Nowiski; one brother, James Pionk, of Bad Axe; one sister, Susan Peruski, of Bad Axe; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Osantoski and her husband, Martin, Louise Pionk. Augustine "Gusti" Leskowich Augustine "Gusti" Leskowich, 83, of Sebewaing, died early Thursday morning, January 26, 2006, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe following a lengthy illness. She was born March 31, 1922 in Traunkirchen, Austria, daughter of the late Franz and Maria Wurm. She was united in marriage to Fred Leskowich Sr. on March 22, 1947 in Austria. Gusti was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and had been very active in the church, their bazaars, and soup suppers. She loved gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Surviving besides her husband, Fred, are two sons, three daughters and their spouses, Fred and Laura Leskowich, Jr., Mary Leskowich, Nancy and Gordon Pommerenke, all of Sebewaing, Randy Leskowich of Caseville, Connie and Todd Schuette of Bay Port; 11 grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother; and two step-brothers. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2006, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Muntz, 88, of Cass City, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006, in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. He was born September 23, 1917 at home just north of Cass City to John and Martha (McCullough) Muntz. He married Bessie A. Craig on May 25, 1940 in her parent's home in Elkton. Chet served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a postal clerk on a troop transport ship. He worked for the U.S. Post Office in Cass City for 38 years retiring in 1980. While at the post office, he worked as a clerk for ten years, Postmaster for four years and rural route carrier for 24 years. Chet was a member, deacon and trustee of Cass City First Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Cass City Lions Club, a charter member of the original VFW Post serving as treasurer and commander, and he was a life member of the Masonic Order Tyler Lodge No. 317 since 1943 serving as past master and was once Mason of the Year. Chet enjoyed golfing and was a member of Rolling Hills Golf Club. He enjoyed woodworking, making cedar chests for daughters and grandchildren, furniture and sewing chests. Chet is survived by his wife, Bessie; daughters, Connie Ann (Jerry) Vandemark, of Deford, Judith Carolyn Knoph, of Gladwin; grandchildren, Brian (Kaylene) Vandemark, Annette Sue (Bryan) Toner, Jodi Knoph, Jackie (Rob) Thomas; great grandchildren, Bridgett, Brenda, and Andrew Vandemark, Justin and Chantell Toner, Robert and Audrey Thomas; great-great- granddaughter, Trinity Middaugh; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Kilpatrick, Helen McGrath; and a brother, Willard Muntz. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2006, in Cass City First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Blackburn officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Military honors will be under the direction of Cass City VFW Post No. 3644. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday in the church.
