Sunday, February 26, 2006 Gene Allen Farver Gene Allen Farver, 65, of Greenwood, South Carolina and formerly of Filion, died Monday, December 26, 2005, at Hospice Care of The Piedmont Hospital. He was born in Elkton to the late Earl Edward and Gertrude Marie (Perry) Farver. He attended church school in Lincoln Township and Bad Axe High School. He retired from BHC of Greenwood, South Carolina. He is survived by his wife, Connie (Bologna) Farver, of Greenwood, South Carolina; two daughters, Patricia Hester, of Michigan, and Christine Koch, of Georgia; one son, Raymond Farver, of Greenwood, South Carolina; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Glen Farver, of Flint, Dale Farver, of Filion, and Leon Farver, of East Tawas, and one sister, Cleo Van Cise, of Filion. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Neil, Jack and Gary; and three sisters, Vera Siewart, Fern Giese and Reba Engelman. Cremation has taken place. Robert E. Hey Robert E. Hey, 82, a lifetime resident of Bad Axe, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2006, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe after a long fight with cancer. Bob was born July 29, 1923 to the late Percy and Irene (Tharess) Hey in Bad Axe. He was a life member of the First United Methodist Church and sang both in the church choir and in the community choir. He graduated from Bad Axe High School, Class of 1941. He then attended Cleary College in Ypsilanti for one year before entering the service. He served as a clerk in World War II in the Army Air Force, having gone to England, Ireland, France and Germany. On May 10, 1948, he married Margaret Morell of Ubly in the First Methodist Church in Bad Axe. He then, with his father, started the Huron Music Store in Bad Axe, running that business for 40 years until his son, Tom, took over. Bob was a past president of the Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Bad Axe Lions Club for 25 years. He was a 49-year member of the Verona Hills Golf Club. Bob and his wife wintered in Pompano Beach, Florida for over 20 years. He loved playing Senior Softball while in Florida. Bob is survived by his wife, Marge; sons, David (Janie), of Corvallis, Oregon, Tom, of Ann Arbor, and Bill (Susan), of Lodi, California; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; his one and only nephew, Don (Maryln) Swartzmiller, of Chesaning, and one cousin, Charles Hey, from Glen Bernie, Maryland, who is the only living relative of the C.F. Hey family who was a School Commissioner for the Huron County Schools and also had a music store. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2006, at the Bad Axe First United Methodist Church, with Rev. William Wright officiating. William J. Krueger William J. Krueger, 76, of Sun City Center, Florida, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2006. He retired as Vice-President of Finance for McCann-Erickson Advertising Agency. He was a volunteer for LifePath Hospice, overseeing their advertising, and he was an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife, June; son, William, and his wife, Ann; daughter, Connie Garlinghouse; two sisters, Betty Yaroch and her husband, Ed, and Shirley Brushaber and her husband, Darwin; five grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Edna Mae Dungey Edna M. Dungey, 95, of Cass City and formerly of Imlay City and Sandusky, died Thursday, February 23 2006, at her daughter's home. She was born May 5, 1910 in Grass Lake Township to Archie B. and Edith A. (Stout) Allen. She married Oren Dungey June 18, 1927 in Bowling Green, Ohio. He died October 16, 1985 after 58 years of marriage. Edna was a longtime member of First Congregational Church in Imlay City and the Congregator's Club. She was a member of Sandusky First Presbyterian Church and their OOPS organization. Edna was a member of the choir of both churches. She was a Girl Scout Leader in Imlay City and was a member of the Bridge Club in Imlay City. Edna enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Willing Workers Quilt Group in Sandusky. Edna is survived by her children, Arthur (Theresa) Dungey, of Imlay City, Carolyn Touchette, of Zephyrhills, Florida, Mary Lou (Donald) Erla, of Cass City; 12 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; sister, Luella Stammann, of Oxford; nieces, Sue (Charles) Stillwell, and Roberta (Robert) Harrison. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Arthur Stammann; sister-in-law, Clare Touchette. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw following a four-month illness. He was born May 13, 1920 in Sebewaing, son of the late Roman and Amelia (Strochein) Lenz. He was married to Katherine M. Brinkman on December 4, 1943 in Sebewaing. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2005 after 61 years of marriage. Norm had been a gentleman farmer in the Sebewaing area for many years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church, the Sebewaing V.F.W. Post No. 4115, Sebewaing American Legion Post No. 293, Disabled American Veterans and the Farm Bureau. He loved cruising and card playing. Surviving are two daughters and their spouses, Jean Kay and Gene Seibel, of Gaylord, and Sandra Lynn and Roger Jenkins, of Northville; four grandchildren and their spouses, Christine and Scott Steensma, Matthew Seibel, Jennifer Jenkins, and Jessica and Mike Hans; two great-grandchildren, Eowyn and Taran; three sisters, Clara Nitz, of Sebewaing, Amanda Kruse, of Cedar Springs, and Ella Marries, of Rochester, and several nieces and nephews. Lucy Mazure Miss Lucy Mazure, 107, of the Parisville area, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2006, at her residence after a short illness. Lucy was born on February 9, 1899 in Paris Township to the late Rufas and Martha (Skrzypinski) Mazure. She never married. Lucy attended a country school. She worked on the family farm. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. She loved gardening, cooking for family and visiting with friends. She is survived by 13 nieces and nephews, Jerome Mazure, Yvonne Kula, Loretta Boggia, Dolores Roberts, Margaret Schamborn, Adeline Ruby, Archie Wrubel, Alice Wrubel, Virgil Mazure, LaVern Mazure, Diane Leppek, Joyce Lamke, Willard Mazure; and many more great- and great-great nieces and nephews. Dorothy Marie Ruby Dorothy Marie Ruby, 77, of Shelby Township, died Thursday, February 23, 2006. She was born on July 9, 1928 in Bay Port to the late Herbert and Daisy Deming. She worked in dry cleaning as a wool and silk finisher for 42 years. She liked to crochet, enjoyed the Red Wings and loved her Pistons. She is survived by her children, William Buehler (Kisuk), April Bedard (Bernard), Michael Ruby (Carol), and Joseph Ruby (Charlotte); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three sisters, Elsie Miller, of Alaska, Evelyn Haag, of Bad Axe, and Genevieve King, of East China. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home in Utica. Dr. Edward Charles Scollon, DVM Dr. Edward Charles Scollon, DVM, 70, of Cass City, died Friday, February 24, 2006, at his home. He was born on February 5, 1936 in Owosso to Edward and Elizabeth (Stevens) Scollon. He married Dotty J. Ahrens on June 20, 1959 in Michigan Center. Dr. Scollon received his Bachelor Degree in Dairy Science in 1959 and his DVM Degree in 1961, both dgrees from Michigan State University. After graduation, he began his career as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in Deckerville, then Marlette and then purchased his current clinic in Cass City in 1964 where he continued his work for 42 years. Ed was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus No. 8892, St. Pancratius Church Council, Cass City Lions Club (of which he was a former president), and a Tuscola County Health Board Member. He was also a former Cass City Schools Board of Education member for 20 years (of which he was president for eight years). Ed was a Tuscola County Commissioner for 10 years. Doc was selected as Cass City Citizen of the Year in 1994 and was Lion of the Year also. He was very active in 4H and was once a 4H leader. He was a former assistant coach for Cass City Little League and a former member of the Cass City Rotary. Doc loved Michigan State University, enjoying their football and basketball games. He loved old Case tractors, working on his farm, his work as a veterinarian and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Anderson, 78, of Sand Creek, died Saturday, February 25, 2006, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 21, 1927 in Ogden Center to Earl and Dora (Schafer) Simpkins. She was married to Robert S. Anderson on April 27, 1946 in Weston. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1977 after 31 years of marriage. Wanda attended Sand Creek Community Church. She served on the Ladies Aide for many years helping with a great many meals. She also spent many hours piecing and quilting. Time spent in her flower gardens provided her hours of contentment and beauty to those who passed by. Wanda is survived by two sons, Michael Anderson Sr. and his wife, Patricia, of Sand Creek, and Steven Anderson, of Sand Creek; four daughters, Roberta Anderson, of Sand Creek, Nancy Ziegler and her husband, Bradley, of Hollywood, South Carolina, Peggy J. Fluegge Herbert Ernst Fluegge, 83, of Cass City (formerly of Owendale), passed away Saturday, February 25, 2006, at Covenant Hospital-Harrison in Saginaw. He was born in Chandler Township, Elkton, on August 29, 1922, son of the late Ernst Adolf and Frieda W. (Rathje) Fluegge. He was baptized in September 1922 at St. John Lutheran Church in Berne by the Rev. Wacker and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkton by the Rev. Henne. He attended the Souletown School and graduated in 1941 from Elkton High School. He served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II. On December 11, 1943, he was united in marriage to Vida Patricia Burrows at St. John's Lutheran Church in Berne. Mr. Fluegge was a dairy farmer in the Owendale area throughout his lifetime, and worked for Michigan Artificial Breeders Co-op (MABC) as a technician for 15 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 2236, Pigeon. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville. In addition to his wife, Vida, to whom he had been married for more than 62 years, he is survived by a daughter, April Lynn Bieniek, of Caseville; a son, Richard Dixon (Ruth) Fluegge, of Cass City; six grandchildren, Carla Lyn Daeninckx, Renee Sue (Robert) Applebee, Christopher (Lisa) Fluegge, Jaime Fluegge, Paula Fluegge, and Kristi Fluegge; five great-grandchildren, Loann J. O'Parka Sr., 90, of Bad Axe, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2006, at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. Chester was born on January 19, 1916 in Paris Township to the late Andrew and Martha (Peplinski) O'Parka. He married Genevieve Ulfig on June 26, 1937 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He attended a country school. He farmed and worked at Nestle Milk, retiring after 25 years. He also worked at Martin Machinery in Bad Axe for a few years. He was a member of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council No. 3823 for more than 50 years. He was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, snowmobiling, and visiting with his family. Chester is survived by his wife, Genevieve, of Bad Axe; one son, Chester O'Parka Jr. and his wife, Sylvia, of Waterford; three grandchildren, Duane O'Parka and his wife, Sherrie, of White Lake, Karen St. Souver and her husband, Darren, of Saginaw, and Debbie O'Parka, of Davisburg; five great- grandchildren, Alycia, Christa, and Duane II O'Parka, Shelby and Austin St. Souver; and three sisters, Minnie Bismack, of Bad Axe, Beatrice Lemanski and her husband, Victor, of Bad Axe, and Grace Peruski, of Ubly. Dubs, 92, of Pigeon, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2006, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born in Winsor Township on December 19, 1913, son of the late Louis and Agnes (Proper) Dubs, and graduated from Winsor Rural School. On June 8, 1939, he was united in marriage to Mildred Annie Fritz at the Linkville parsonage. She preceded him in death on March 4, 1978 after 38 years of marriage. Mr. Dubs worked for the Huron County Road Commission in the early 1950s. He worked at the pea vinery and at Active Industries in Elkton for seven years, retiring in 1962. He also farmed throughout his lifetime, selling his farm in 1969. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Linkville, as well as the Golden Agers at the church. He was also a member of the Pigeon Conservation Club and the Caseville Retirement Club. He is survived by three sons, Dennis Dubs and his wife, Fern, of Bay Port, Wayne Dubs, of Owendale, and Randy Dubs and his fiancee, Barb, of Owendale; a daughter, Deann Bumhoffer and her husband, Charles, of Sebewaing; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great- great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. "Kay" Walker, 96, of Sebewaing and formerly of Elkton, died Monday morning, February 27, 2006, at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care Unit. She was born May 30, 1909 in St. Clair Heights to the late Joseph and Margaret (Newberry) McDonough. On January 30, 1928, she was united in marriage to Philip K. Walker at Holy Name Catholic Church, Birmingham. They moved to Elkton in 1946 from Berkley when Phil bought a milk route. They lived in Elkton until 1990, when they moved to Caro. Phil died June 2, 1995, and a short time later, she moved to Sebewaing to be nearer to her daughter. Kay had been a long time member of St. Francis Catholic Church and Altar Society, Pigeon, and the Elkton Women's Study Club. Surviving are six children, Jerry (Nancy) Walker, of Harbor Springs, Jim (Dolores) Walker, of Imlay City, Mick (Jackie) Walker, of Frankenmuth, Linda (Bob) Rittenger, of Palm Springs, California, Kay (Jim) Eisengruber, of Sebewaing, and Mary (Bernie) Nelson, of Caro; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was born October 7, 1931 in Detroit to the late Charles and Joanna (Mihalceon) Bodner. On December 21, 1970, he was united in marriage with Diana Heilig in Farmington Hills. Mr. Bodner was a farmer who enjoyed fishing, being with his children, playing cards, watching movies and reading. He is survived by his wife, Diana, of Bad Axe; one son, James Bodner and his wife, Heidi, of Warren; two daughters, Tammy Bodner, of Brown City, and Deanna Lincoln and her husband, Gary, of Milford; two brothers, Nicholas Bodner and his wife, Janet, of Livonia, and Michael Bodner, of Farmington Hills; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Jessie, Jessica, Miranda, and Michael; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Bodner; one brother, John Bodner; and one sister, Doris Boettcher. Kevin J. Jensen Kevin John Jensen, born June 11, 1957, died suddenly Sunday, February 26, 2006, in Seattle, Washington. Kevin loved to travel throughout the United States, more recently traveling between Nebraska and Washington State. He worked in building maintenance. He is survived by his father, Jack (Karen) Jensen, of Pigeon; two sons, Alex and Luke, of Detroit; six brothers and sisters, Karen Jensen, of Ogden, Utah, Kurt Jensen and his wife, Carol, of Centerville, Virginia, Krista Nugent, of Sebewaing, Jeffrey Jensen, of Caseville, Frantz Jensen and his wife, Kitty, of Kinross, and Elizabeth Jensen and her husband, Jay, of Commerce; 13 nieces and nephews. Albert J. Van Erp Albert J. Van Erp, 68, of Henrietta, New York, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2006, at his residence under hospice care. He was born June 18, 1937 in Bad Axe to the late Fritz and Helen (Boogaard) Van Erp. He married Ruth Ann Sweeney on June 23, 1962 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. She preceded him in death on October 27, 1999. Albert was a 1955 graduate of Ubly High School. He received an associate's degree from Northeastern Commerce Business School of Bay City. He was employed at Super Foods in Vassar. He moved to New York in 1965. He had resided in Henrietta, New York since 1969, where he had been a parishioner at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Henrietta since he moved there. He most currently worked at Hahn Automotive Warehouse in Rochester, New York. He loved to watch Syracuse University basketball games and was a season ticket holder and supporter of Syracuse University. He also liked to play cards. Albert is survived by two sons, Christopher Van Erp and his wife, Renee, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, Corey Van Erp and his wife, Jenny, of Rochester, New York; two daughters, Laurie Cvetic and her husband, John, of Avon, Ohio, Lisa Scott and her husband, Jeff, of Rochester, New York; five grandchildren, Meghan, Christopher, and Alaina Cvetic, Weston and Camille Van Erp; and one grandchild on the way; six sisters, Marcella Campbell, of Bad Axe, Mary Kubacki, of Ubly, Dorothy Schmidt and her husband, Robert, of Cass City, Agnes Zawilinski and her husband, Walter, of Cass City, Florence Briolat and her husband, Norman, of Romeoville, Illinois, Evelyn Schadd and her husband, Earl, of Filion; three brothers, Joseph Van Erp and his wife, Carol, of Bad Axe, Robert Van Erp and his wife, Susan, of Bad Axe, William Van Erp and his wife, Kathleen, of Canton. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2006, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Randell L. Hiatt Randell Lee Hiatt, 55, of Cass City, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 26, 2006, in his home. He was born April 3, 1950 in Tacoma, Washington to Robert Donald and Elizabeth Jean (McGregor) Hiatt. Randy graduated from Cass City High School. While in high school, he participated in Track, setting school records. Randy played in a band throughout high school. He was a fine guitar player and also enjoyed writing songs. He was recently baptized at Colwood United Brethren in Christ Church in Caro. Randy is survived by his children, Ashley Chapelo, of Caro, Jesse Rader, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Alex Hiatt, of Cass City, Ivy Hiatt, of Cass City; grandchildren, Dalton Michael Peet, Ashton John Chapelo; brother, Ken (Donna) Hiatt, of Taylors, South Carolina; niece, Heather Hiatt; nephews, Justin, Jordan, and Zachary Hiatt. Thursday, March 2, 2006 Michael Buchler Michael Buchler, 94, of Caseville, died Tuesday, February 28, 2006, of heart failure while at his home while under hospice care. Michael was born September 24, 1911 in Detroit to the late Bernard and Katherine (Stumf) Buchler. He grew up in Detroit and Mt. Clemens. On April 25, 1936, he married Esther M. Harms, of Merril, in Mt. Clemens. The family settled in Mt. Clemens and raised their family there. He worked for Ford as an assembler, retiring in 1973 from Sterling Axle. Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved to Caseville, in large part because he loved fishing in the area. He was a charter member of the Caseville Retirement Club and an active member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Michael is survived by his wife, Esther; children, Ralph (Shirley), of Attica, Maxine (Jim) Feller, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Susan (Charles) Niemczyk, of Clinton Township; grandchildren, Lynn, Shelley, Jennifer and Michael; and great- granddaughters, Angela, Rachel and Rebecca. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Feller; sisters, Carolyn and Mary; and brother, Frank. She was born August 15, 1959 in Lincoln Park to Clark and Betty (Schenk) Hodgson. Sharon was a CNA for Tendercare Nursing Facility in Cass City. She worked in nursing care for over 20 years. She enjoyed knitting and collecting dolphins. Sharon was always happy and loved to make everyone laugh. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Obee, 89, of Minden City, died Saturday, February 25, 2006, at Marlette Community Hospital after a long illness. She was born November 4, 1916 in Flint to John and Lydia (Holler) Manke. She married Walter Obee on June 27, 1957 in Alpena. He died November 18, 1994 after 37 years of marriage. Genevieve worked for Chrysler Corporation for over 20 years as a Quality Inspector. She enjoyed crocheting and loved Bingo. Knoblock, 89, of Bad Axe and formerly of Port Austin, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was born on July 8, 1916 in Detroit, daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Rozanski) Justewicz. Irene married Michael Knoblock on June 26, 1937 at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church in Hamtramck. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1975 after 38 years of marriage. Irene was raised in Hamtramck and was very proud of her Polish heritage. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin, the Holy Rosary Sodality at St. Michael's, and the Daughters of Isabella. Irene loved spending her time with her family. She is survived by six children, Geraldine T. (Walter H.) Mayer, of Ann Arbor, M. Richard (Christine E.) Knoblock, of Port Austin, Elaine M. (Gerald W.) Stocker, of Bad Axe, Carolyn J. Knoblock, of Tucson, Arizona, Randy J. Knoblock, of Royal Oak, and Roxanne E. (Daniel) Braden, of Bad Axe; 14 grandchildren, Tracy, Chad, and Bethany Mayer, Emily and Michael Knoblock, Paul Mousseau, Julie Rockwell, Nick, Matthew, and Mike Wineman, William Stocker, Renee Anderson, and Alison and Benjamin Braden; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Kosinski and Fritz Mayer. Dubs, 52, of Pinconning and formerly of Owendale, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at Brian's House in Essexville following a one-year illness. She was born September 13, 1953 in Bay City, daughter of the late Andrew J. and Myrtle I. (Trudeau) Couch. Karla had been employed at Bonnie's Sewing Center in Bay City for five years. She enjoyed sewing, playing with her grandchildren, hunting, and playing cards. Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Torres and her husband, Jason, Jamie Harder and her special friend, Mike Tkacz, all of Owendale; two grandchildren, Alexa and Ayden Torres; special companion, Francis Romanik, of Pinconning; one brother, Patrick J. Couch, of Pinconning; two half-brothers, Gary Provo and Dean Provo, both of Cheboygan; one half-sister, Theresa Parrott and her husband, Donald, of Indian River; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Bobby Jo Harder; and a half-sister, Bonnie Monville. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City.
