Sunday, August 29, 2006 Leo Bodis Leo Bodis, 88, of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, August 25, 2006, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. He was born April 6, 1918 in Port Austin, son of the late Frank and Mary (Baranski) Bodis. He married Theresa Goretski on November 10, 1943 in St. Michael Catholic Church in Port Austin. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe where he served in the Usher's Club. He enjoyed fishing, working with motors, and various mechanics, and working on the family farm. He had moved to the Detroit area to work at one of the war plants. He also worked for the Level Factory in Port Austin, the former Universal Engineering in Bad Axe, and Huron Tool. He and his wife were adult foster parents for 33½ years. Leo is survived by his wife, Theresa, of Bad Axe; two sons, Robert (Joanne) Bodis, of Harbor Beach, and John (Peggy) Bodis, of Bad Axe; one daughter, Janet Rapson, of Bad Axe; one sister, Florence Kanaski, of Kinde; and seven grandchildren, Troy (Beth) Rapson, of Belleville, Tricia (Luke) George, of Westphalia, Dr. John Zang-Bodis, of Memphis, Tennessee, Cheyne Zang-Bodis, of Dearborn, Spc. Jeremy R. Bodis, of Bay City, Jessica Bodis, of Bad Axe, and Kelsey Bodis, of Bad Axe. He was preceded by twin sons, James and Gerald Bodis; four brothers, Stanley, Edward, Raymond and Chester Bodis; and one son-in-law, Wayne Rapson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Officiating will be Fr. James Carlson, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, from 1 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. Dougle "Duke" E. Creguer Mr. Dougle "Duke" E. Creguer, 81, of Minden City, passed away Saturday morning, August 26, 2006, at his residence under hospice care due to an extended illness. Duke was born May 25, 1925 in Kinde to the late Cyril and Anna (McLaughlin) Cregeur. He married June Kramer on May 10, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. He was a graduate of Kinde country school. He was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of many groups including the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council #3823 for 59 years, St. John Church Council in Forestville for 15 years, the Farm Bureau for 10 years, the National Farmers Organization, the Ubly Fox Hunters for 25 years, the Eagles for 20 years, and the Forestville Village Council for 10 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and restoring Ford tractors. Duke is survived by his wife, June, of Minden City; his children, Gary Creguer, of Minden City, Bette Peterson and her husband, Ken, of Burlington, Vermont, Norma Prange and her husband, Tom, of Minden City, Bernie Creguer, of Pinnebog, Peter Creguer and his wife, Jill, of Minden City, Paul Creguer and his wife, Clariece, of Minden City, Gina Crothers and her significant other, Tim Brabant, of Port Sanilac, and Dennis Creguer, of Minden City; 17 grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; three brothers, Robert Cregeur and his significant other, Gwen, Willard Cregeur and his wife, Ann, and Gerald Cregeur and his wife, Sharon; two sisters, Marjorie Randall and Ailene Doe; one sister-in-law, Avalon Parrish; one brother-in-law, Ernest Slavick and his special friend, Betty Brown. Day, 96, of Wyoming and formerly of Ubly, passed away August 16, 2006. Born March 28, 1910 in Osseau, Wisconsin, he was preceded in death by parents, George and Deborah Day, in-laws, Stanley and Elizabeth Kubacki, sister, Delia (Cletus) Gannon, and son, George, age 17, a three-lettered outstanding high school senior athlete. Bud and Julia were married April 10, 1937 at St. John's Catholic Church in Ubly. They moved to Ruth where Bud owned and operated a creamery, then to Lansing, where Bud worked as a Correctional Prison Inspector for the State of Michigan. Upon moving back to Ubly, he worked with Kiehl Oil Company and was a real estate agent until his retirement. Bud earned his degree from Brookings, South Dakota State in business administration. He loved the West-prairies, Mt. Rushmore and has a wonderful collection of Indian arrowheads. He was a renown breeder and trainer of Registered English Pointers; his stud dog, "Day Dr. Ripple" and dam, "Day Spunky Julia" were featured weekly on the first "Michigan Outdoor" TV show, Mort Neff, host from mid 1950 through Mr. Neff's retirement. Bud was an avid hunter, fisherman; he loved bowling, gardening, sports, playing cards, vacationing with family and wining and dining his wife of 69 years, Julia. He was a member of the Lion's Club over 40 years, served 10 years on the Ubly Community School Board, chairman of Ubly Homecoming for many years. A proud highlight of his life was suggesting to the Lion's Club to have a minstrel show to raise money. Thus was born the "Alabama Jubilee" and his title, "The Father of the Jubilee" and "Mr. Clown." During over 20 years of production, he was an endman, plying jokes and his wonderful voice singing solos. In a village of less than 1,000, he got farmers, doctors, small business owners involved in a cast of over 400 people and cast traveled to areas in Michigan, showboats, etc. Bud convinced Dian (Doc) Holdship to direct the shows as she was well known for her work in the East. Bud's love and zest for life, teenagers and children had his and Julia's home, yard and patio occupied virtually every day. It wasn't beyond him to slip money to college kids or ones in need. His love for his family will be sorely missed. The family wants to thank Dr. Scott Duemler for his friendship, care and dedication to Bud and Julia. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2006, at St. John's Catholic Church in Ubly. The family will receive visitors from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to Mass. Interment will be at St. John's Evangelist Cemetery where the family suggests memorial donations be made. Charles J. Schulte Charles J. Schulte, 57, of Port Hope, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2006, in Dexter. Born June 4, 1949 in Bad Axe, he was the son of Margaret (Leese) Schulte and the late Joseph Schulte. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Port Hope AmVets and a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach. Charlie was an employee of J.W. Hunt Trucking of Bad Axe and he enjoyed hobby farming, providing food for wildlife animals at his farm and being outside in nature. Surviving are his mother, Margaret Schulte, of Port Hope; sister, Susanne Taylor and her husband, Earl, of Oxford; brothers, Eugene Schulte and his wife, Cheryl, of Port Hope, Raymond Schulte and his wife, Joanne, of Port Hope, Joseph Schulte and his wife, Carol, of Ann Arbor, Andrew Schulte and his wife, Wendy, of Port Hope, and David Schulte and his wife, Cynthia, of Bad Axe; and also several nieces and nephews. Charlie was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Edward and Robert Schulte. A memorial mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach, with Fr. T.J. Fleming, pastor, officiating. Interment will be St. Mary's Cemetery, Dwight. Cremation has taken place in Ann Arbor. Buchholz, 51, of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, August 25, 2006. He was born November 18, 1954 in Mount Clemens, son of Otto and Martha (Klann) Buchholz. He is survived by mother, Martha Buchholz, of Bad Axe; two brothers, Henry Buchholz, of Bad Axe, and Elmer Buchholz, of Bad Axe; one half sister, Doris (Donald) Pape, of Livonia. He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Buchholz. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. June A. Henry Jensen June A. Henry Jensen, 86, of Caseville Township, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2006, at Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw. She was born in Saginaw on January 25, 1920 to Jacob and Martha (Henne) Schwalm. She was raised in Caseville Township and graduated from Bay Port High School in 1937. In 1939, she married Stewart "Bud" Henry in Bowling Green, Ohio. The couple worked the family farm until Bud passed away in May 1964. In the fall of 1980, she married Edward Jensen and moved to Dearborn until his death in 1985, when she moved back to her farm in Caseville. Mrs. Jensen was a homemaker throughout her lifetime. She loved animals, especially her barn cats and farm dogs. She always enjoyed good food, her family and her friends. Her friends were very important to her, and she kept in contact with them through many telephone conversations. She was a member of the Caseville United Methodist Church. Two children survive her, Stewart and Carole Henry, of Caseville, and Janet and Keith Geiger, of Warrenton, Virginia; four grandchildren, Brian (Renee) Henry, of Caseville, Beth Ann (John) Faber, of Haslett, Brian (Nicole) Geiger, of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Jeff Geiger, of Richmond, Virginia; five great-grandchildren, Dutch, Lauren, and Kennedy Henry and Samuel and Benjamin Faber; her siblings, Eleanor (Hurburt) Newman, of Essexville, Freida (Frank) Ricica, of Davison, Gale (Pat) Schwalm, of Caseville; sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Schwalm, of Essexville; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Caseville United Methodist Church. Jack H. Seibert Jack H. Seibert, 84, of Linden, died Saturday, August 26, 2006, at his residence. Jack was born on March 31, 1922 in Harbor Beach, the son of Harry H. and Jean (McTavish) Seibert. He was a 1940 graduate of Harbor Beach High School. He served as an ensign in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, Jack attended Michigan State University and graduated in 1947 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Following graduation, Jack attended the Thunderbird Institute to study International Relations and then worked in South America until 1951. Upon returning to the states, Jack married Margaret Quick, of Port Hope, and they enjoyed 55 years together. Jack and Margaret moved to St. Clair Shores, where he worked for AC Delco Division of General Motors, Detroit. In 1976, they moved to Linden where Jack worked for AC Delco, Flint, until his retirement in 1987. Jack was a member, elder, and trustee at Lake Shore Presbyterian Church, St. Clair Shores, and Linden Presbyterian Church. He was also an affiliate member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Winter Haven, Florida. Jack was a member of American Legion Post No. 197 in Harbor Beach. He loved camping with his family and was an active member of the Roving Ramblers. Among Jack's many volunteer activities, were Junior Achievement Advisor, basketball coach, chair of church stewardship committee, Sunday school teacher, church camp counselor and member of the Huron County Drum and Bugle Corps. Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Jacquelyn (Edward) Thompson, of Charleston, West Virginia, Deborah (Charles) Tuckey, of Dexter, Gwendolyn (Fred) Bertram, of Katy, Texas, Michael (Maria), of Canton, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Suzanne (Wayne) McArthur, of Harbor Beach. Tuesday, August 29, 2006 Warren James Higby Jr. Warren James Higby Jr., 85, of Venice, Florida and formerly of Bad Axe, died Friday, August 25, 2006. He was born August 26, 1920 in Battle Creek, the first son of the late Helen Alice (Kimball) Higby and Warren James Higby Sr. In 1942, he graduated from Wayne University College of Pharmacy. During World War II, he served in the Navy as a Chief Pharmacist's Mate in the Pacific Theatre in both India and China. He founded Higby's Pharmacy, an independent drug store in Bad Axe, and operated the business for over 20 years. Most of that time he was in partnership with James Volk. He also participated in several community services including the Bad Axe School Board, the Lion's Club and the Chamber of Commerce. Subsequently, he worked as a relief pharmacist for several Venice-area drug stores including Apple and Englewood Pharmacies and Davidson's Drugs. He is survived by a son, Gregory James Higby, of Madison, Wisconsin; a daughter, Mary Ann Dwyer; three grandchildren, Jenna, Ashley and Ian Dwyer, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; his brothers, Paul Kimball Higby, of Brevard, North Carolina, and Thomas Fredric Higby, of Fowlerville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Gertrude Elizabeth Higby, on May 24, 2006. The family wishes to thank the staff of Duke Hospice and Home Care for their care and support during the late stage of his illness. Ashlyn Maria Prill Ashlyn Maria Prill, newborn daughter of Tom and Maria Prill, of Elkton, died Sunday afternoon, August 27, 2006, at Covenant Harrison in Saginaw of injuries sustained while in her mother's womb during an auto accident on Friday afternoon. Surviving are her parents, Tom and Maria (Martinez) Prill, of Elkton; her brother, Mason, at home; paternal grandmother, Laura Prill, of Elkton; maternal grandparents, Arlene and Tony Torres, of Elkton, and Manuel Martinez, of Texas; paternal great-grandparents, Tom and Flora Prill, of Bad Axe; maternal great-grandparents, James and Janet Essenmacher, of Harbor Beach, and Henrietta Martinez, of Texas; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Dekoski, 42, of Sterling Heights and formerly of Ruth, beloved father, son, brother and friend passed away suddenly on Monday, August 28, 2006, at St. John Macomb Hospital as a result of an industrial accident. Scott was born January 13, 1964 in Bad Axe to Kenneth G. and Patricia (Maurer) Dekoski. He attended and graduated from Ubly High School in 1982. Scott married Darlene "Dee" Arnold on May 7, 1988 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. They later divorced, but during their marriage, they were blessed with two daughters who Scott's entire world revolved around. Scott worked at Gemini Plastics for 12 years. He then moved to Sterling Heights in 1996 and began to work at True Industries as a tool and die maker. He received his journeyman's license from the Bay Area Skill Center. Scott loved watching all sports, especially football, playing softball and spending time with his family helping out on the family farm. Scott is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie and Danielle Dekoski, of Sterling Heights, and their mother, Dee Paul and her husband, Dan, of Troy; his parents, Kenneth and Patricia Dekoski, of Ruth; five brothers, Mike (Lisa) Dekoski, of Clinton Township, Keith Dekoski, of Bad Axe, Kenneth S. Dekoski, of Ruth, Kurt (Carrie) Dekoski, of Macomb Township, Jeff (Amy) Dekoski, of Petoskey; one sister, Karen Dekoski, of Bay City; nine nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Murray Mrs. Patricia E. Murray, 82, of Ubly, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw after a short illness. She was born January 10, 1924 in Pinnebog to the late Patrick and Lena (Musselman) McCormick. She married John J. Murray on May 5, 1951 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. Patricia was a graduate of the Lake Township Country School and Pinnebog High School. She was a graduate of the Bay City Business School. She worked as the Deputy Treasurer for Huron County for years and worked at the Production Credit Association for a few years. She was a member of the Hilltoppers Farm Bureau Group. She also did cooking for weddings and the Thumb Electric Annual meeting. She was a parishioner at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners for 55 years. She was a current member and former officer of the Holy Trinity Altar Society. She also was a member and past president of the League of Catholic Women. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and traveling to Alaska, Texas, and Georgia to visit family and friends. Patricia is survived by her husband, John "Jack", of Ubly; three sons, Greg Murray and his wife, Rose, of San Antonio, Texas, Ken Murray and his wife, Kim, of Ubly, Shawn Murray, of Clarkston, Georgia; five grandchildren, Lisa Minor and her husband, Jeremy, of Santa Cruz, California, Kenny and Riley Murray, of Ubly, Charlie Williams, of Ubly, Nicole Williams, of Missoula, Montana; two brothers, Lawrence "Larry" McCormick, of Pinnebog, Steve McCormick and his wife, Jeanne, of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Christine "Doreen" Tomlinson and her husband, Leroy, of Kinde; and many nieces and nephews. Michalski, 61, of Deford, died Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at home with his family at his side. He was born December 2, 1944 at home in Ubly to Raymond and Ordean (Lautner) Michalski. He married Margaret Jean Rolston on February 29, 1964 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Argyle. She died November 25, 1999. John worked for General Motors in Saginaw for over 33 years. He enjoyed rebuilding and fixing trucks, pheasant hunting, truck pulls and golf. John is survived by his children, Greg (Kim) Michalski, of Deford, James (Lori) Michalski, of Caro, Jeffrey (Teresa) Michalski, of Webberville, Kathrine (Jim) Schram, of Caro; grandchildren, Michael, Aaron, Brian, Elizabeth, Katie, Erik, Adam, Jeffrey Michalski, Jr., Austin Schram and the tenth grandchild who is due in December; special friend, Betty McKenney, of Kingston, and her family; mother, Ordean Michalski, of Ubly; brother, David (Gloria) Michalski, of Ubly; sister, Clarice (Kevin) Robinson, of Ubly; several nieces and nephews. Sonik, 88, of Harbor Beach and formerly of Port Hope, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2006, in the long term care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Port Hope on August 28, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Hilda (Pochert) Kriewall. Ottilia was a former employee of the J.L.Hudson Company in Detroit for over 20 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope and the Port Hope Retirees Club. Surviving are a son, Warren Sonik, of Marquette, and a daughter, Margaret Smith, of Pompano Beach, Florida; one grandson, Michael Smith, of Sterling Heights, and two brothers, John Kriewall and his wife, Marla, of Port Hope, and Arthur Kriewall and his wife, Sharon, of Owasso, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Victor Kriewall. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope, with Rev. Gregory Eilers, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Marquardt Cemetery. A scripture service will be at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, where visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Monday and from noon until the time of the service at the church.
