Bowlby Chris E. Bowlby, 52, of Caseville, died Saturday, February 3, 2007, at Troy Beaumont Hospital. He was born in Detroit on May 14, 1954, the son of Gilbert F. and Myra J. (Koenig) Bowlby. He grew up in Clawson. On September 6, 1980, he was united in marriage to Christine A. Beedle at the Caseville United Methodist Church. Chris was a self-employed carpenter in the area for many years. In addition to his wife, Christine, he is survived by a daughter, Anne Bowlby, of Caseville; a son, Nicholas Bowlby, of Caseville; his mother, Myra J. (Robert) Gruszynski, of Arizona; a sister, Pamela (David) Makel, of Sanford; three brothers, Jeffrey (Barbara) Bowlby, of Okemos, Butch (Jenny) Bowlby, of Brisette Beach, and Robert (Cydnee) Gruszynski, of Hill City, South Dakota; his mother-in-law, Betty Beedle, of Pigeon; a brother-in-law, Dr. Stephen (Laura) Beedle, of Pigeon; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with Pastor Michael Goforth officiating. Cremation will take place at Sunset Valley Crematory, Bay City. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Elmer W. Buchkowski Elmer W. Buchkowski, 90, of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007, in the Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Center of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born August 26, 1916 in Smith's Corners, he was the son of the late Frank and Magdalina (Maurer) Buchkowski. On June 2, 1951, Elmer and Louise Yageman were united in marriage in Harbor Beach. She preceded him in death on May 11, 1990. Elmer was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He is a retired employee of Hercules, Inc., retiring in 1979 after working for 35 years. He is a member of the Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 197 of Harbor Beach where he was past commander and a member of the Drill Team that competed in local and state competitions. He is survived by his children, Barry Buchkowski and his wife, Nancy, of Sebewaing, and Lynda Buchkowski, of Harbor Beach; two grandchildren, John (Lynn) Buchkowski and Jami (Carl) Stender; and a great granddaughter, Josie Buchkowski; two sisters-in-law, Olive Busch, of Harbor Beach, and Lois Gottschalk, of Pontiac. Elmer was preceded in death by his brothers, Roman, Clarence Charles, and Jim; and by sisters, Irene Wilkowski, Eleanor Wilkowski, Alice Mazure and Clara Chape. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach, with Fr. T.J. Fleming officiating. A parish vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Jerome A. Mausolf Jerome A. Mausolf, 80, of Harbor Beach died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 at the Harbor Beach Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Center of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. He was born August 21, 1926 to the late Albert and Josephine (Roggenbuck) Mausolf in Sand Beach Township, Huron County. Jerome married Alice Susalla on June 26, 1948 at St. Anthony's Church in Helena. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He received the Asiatic Pacific Medal and Victory Medal. Jerome was a lifelong farmer of Sand Beach Township and retired from farming in 1984. He was a member of St. Anthony's Church of Helena and was a member of The St. Anthony's Men's Club. He is survived by his wife, Alice, of Harbor Beach, four daughters, Mary Ann Stockwell and her husband, James, of Sterling Heights, JoAnn Puvalowski and her husband, Eugene, of Shelby Township, Teresa DuBois and her husband, Ron, of Harbor Beach, and Gloria Maurer, of Ubly; two sons, Bill Mausolf and his wife, Deanna, of Whitmore Lake, and Roy Mausolf and his wife, Nancy, of Sterling Heights; 17 grandchildren; and one great grandson; one sister, Angeline Shaw, of Saginaw and Ft. Meyers, Florida; one brother, Robert (Betty) Mausolf, of Harbor Beach; sisters-in-law, Marian Mausolf, of Harbor Beach, Florence Mausolf, of Ruth, and Janet (Richard) Gaugh, of Deckerville. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Stella Holdwick and Edna Mausolf; and brothers, Harry, Clarence, Lawrence, Edward, and Marcus Mausolf; and brothers-in-law, Jerome Holdwick and Dan Shaw. Ramsey Funeral Home, Inc. handled the arrangements. Genevieve M. McGee Genevieve M. McGee, 91, of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, February 2, 2007, at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born April 20, 1915 in Bad Axe, daughter of the late James and Bertha (Humphrey) McGee. Genevieve was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe and loved gardening and interaction with her nieces and nephews. Her great sense of humor always will stand as one of her most memorable legacies. She is survived by one sister, Josephine Green, of Bad Axe; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Erwyn, Charles, and Patrick McGee; and three sisters, Mary Costello, Frances Pearl, and Eileen Hembling. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Paul C. Meinhold Paul C. Meinhold, 53, passed away peacefully Friday, February 2, 2007, at his home in Huntsville, Alabama, with family by his side. He was born January 14, 1954 in Bad Axe, son of Donald C. and Lea (Connors) Meinhold. After graduation from Bad Axe High School in 1972, Paul worked with his father at Meinhold Dairy, a local milk distributor. Shortly after that, the Meinhold family purchased and renovated a coin-op car wash north of Bad Axe. They added an automatic car wash and named it Meinhold Car Wash Center with Paul as its manager. Soon the business grew by adding gasoline and a detail center. Paul and his brother, Richard, purchased the business from their father in the 1980s. In 1988, the automatic car wash was expanded; and in 1992, the brothers built Brick Street Laundry Center. The two managed the business together until December 2003, when Paul's condition forced him into retirement. After retirement, Paul shared his life with his sister, Jan Meinhold. They enjoyed the summers in Michigan and the winters in Alabama. Paul cherished the time with family and friends. His favorite pastime was playing with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Through-out the years, Paul enjoyed bowling, playing golf, softball, cards, coaching Little League, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years. He was a member of Verona Mills Golf Course for many years. He is survived by his beloved son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Andrea; and grandchildren, Katelyn and Griffin Meinhold, of Bad Axe; mother, Lea Meinhold, of Bad Axe; brothers and sister, Thomas Meinhold, of Filion, Jan Meinhold, of Huntsville, Alabama, Richard (Susan) Meinhold, of Port Hope, James Meinhold, of Indianapolis, Indiana, father-in-law, Peter (Delores) Rambo, of Bad Axe; brothers-in-law, Craig (Patricia) Rambo and Scott (Mindy) Rambo; sisters-in-law, Lynn (Donald) Musolff and Susan (Thomas) Kaczuk, all of Bad Axe, along with many loving nieces and nephews. A scripture service will be offered at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be offered to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Richard L. Painter Richard L. Painter, 52, of Ubly, died Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at his home. He was born April 8, 1954 to Leroy W. and Helen C. (Bobicz) Painter. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Richard was a microbiologist, astronomer and true environmental- ist. He was a compassionate man who loved science and medicine. A man of many talents, his articles regarding audio systems and radio were published in national magazines. He owned Huron Water Testing, most recently drawing attention to the pollution of Lake Huron. For over 20 years, he worked for Huron Memorial Hospital. He took pride in his ability to perform tests on small children painlessly, lessening their suffering. He married Diane McArdle on June 5, 1976 in Ypsilanti and she survives; along with his mother, Helen C. Gardner, of Milan; sisters, Joan C. (Darold) Jones, of Milan, Judith K. Salyer, of Ypsilanti; mother-in-law, Peggy Rogers; sisters-in-law, Pam (Jay) Sinclair, of Milan, and Robin (Rick) Weaver, of Grass Lake; and beloved nieces, nephews and extended family as well as the good neighbors around his home in Ubly. Richard is now safely wrapped in the arms of his dad and other family members who have gone before him. The Funeral Liturgy took place on Monday, February 5, 2007, at the Ochalek Funeral Home, Milan, with procession to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Whittaker for Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Fr. Nicholas Ritter as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Whittaker. In memory of Richard's miraculous cure of "hopeless and incurable" childhood cancer, we thank and honor the Blessed Mother and St. Jude who interceded on our behalf to give us 50 additional years with Richard. "Al" Renius, 85, of Caseville and formerly of Rochester, died suddenly Thursday, February 1, 2007, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon of a pulmonary embolism. Al was born January 12, 1922 in Altdamm, Germany to the late Hans and Grete (Schwarz) Renius. The family moved from Germany to Detroit in 1926, where Al grew up and graduated from Denby High School. On October 20, 1945, he married Violet Norma Herz, of Detroit, at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit. The family lived in Detroit and then later moved to Rochester. Al worked as a design engineer in the automotive field. In 1989, he retired to Caseville. He was a charter member of the Rochester Elks Lodge and a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Rochester. He enjoyed helping his wife with household chores and spending time with his family and friends. Al is survived by his wife, Violet; sons, Mark (Sandra), of Temperance, Carl, of Rochester, and Craig (Gail), of Grant's Pass, Oregon; and daughter, Nancy (Dale) Ahern, of Rochester Hills; grandchildren, Bryan, Christopher, Elizabeth, Amanda, Elaina, Curtis, Ryan, Dylan and Emma Rose; and great grandchildren, Brendan, Alexander, Emma Nicole, Derek and Meghan. Thane, 53, of Deford, died unexpectedly Friday, February 2, 2007, in Hills and Dales General Hospital. He was born October 9, 1953 in Pontiac to Willard and Nancy May (Meyer) Thane. He married Amy Jean DeLisle on November 13, 1971 in Kingston. Bruce served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Viet Nam War. He worked for various factories including General Motors and Plastech Manufacturing in Caro until his disability. He was a member of the Caro VFW Post #4164. Bruce enjoyed Science Fiction and playing computer games. He loved tattoos. Bruce enjoyed mowing the lawn, raking and burning leaves and took great pride in keeping his yard nice. Bruce is survived by his wife, Amy; children, Bruce William Thane, of Cass City, Nancy Jean Thane, of Deford; father, Willard (Margaret) Thane, of Tawas; sisters, Joan Johnson, of Akron, Betty Ann Troyan, of Oklahoma, Dawn (Gil) Contaras, of Clarkston; brothers, Willard (Marie) Thane, of Cass City, Terry Thane; sister-in-law, Cathy Thane, of Bay City; many nieces and nephews. Barrigar, 70, died Sunday, February 4, 2007, at Brian's House in Bay City following a nine-month illness. She was born October 15, 1936 in Magnolia, Ohio, daughter of the late Frank and Agnes (Posar) Metzger. She was united in marriage to Donald M. Barrigar on June 12, 1954 in Caro. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2004. Mary was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. She enjoyed crocheting and going to the casino. Surviving are three sons, one daughter and their spouses, Randy (Donna) Barrigar, Daniel (Lisa) Barrigar, all of Unionville, Steven (Candace) Barrigar, of Arlington, Virginia, and Carol (Steve) Light, of Kalamazoo; eight grandchildren; one great grandson; one sister, Agnes Detloff, of Caro; three brothers and their wives, Frank (Virginia) Metzger, of Greer, South Carolina; John (Nancy) Metzger; Joe (Arlene) Metzger, all of Essexville; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen; two sisters, Ann Magiera and Vicky Hunyady. Frieda Hazel Frieda Hazel, 87, of Sterling Heights and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, February 2, 2007, at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy. She was born February 24, 1919 in Harbor Beach, daughter of the late Joseph and Mathilda (Wendland) Gerstenschlager. She married Leland E. Hazel on February 13, 1937 in Detroit. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1999. Mrs. Hazel and her husband were longtime Rubicon Township farmers retiring in 1977. They moved to Florida for several years before returning to Michigan. She enjoyed playing cards and will always be remembered for her great cooking and her much admired apple pie. She is survived by two daughters, Eilene Hazel, of Troy, Janet (Eric) Chaman, of Sierra Vista, Arizona; two brothers, Alton (Inez) Gerstenschlager, of Bad Axe, Harold (Mary) Gerstenschlager, of Tennessee; six grandchildren, Debra (Bill) Duncanson, of Rochester, Randy (Kay) Becker, of Troy, Bob (Janet) Becker, of Romeo, Dena (Bill) Zirngibl, of Rochester Hills, Kathy Chaman, of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Julie Chaman, of Tucson, Arizona; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. "Fred" Maxwell, 76, of Pigeon, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007, at Northwood Meadows in Cass City. He was born in Pigeon on July 26, 1930, son of the late Charles "Charlie" and Marie (Klee) Maxwell. He attended schools in Saginaw, Kinde, Caseville, Elkton and Pigeon. On January 5, 1950, he was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Thick in Bad Axe. Mr. Maxwell worked at the Elkton Elevator for 44 years retiring at age 62. He loved traveling up north to be in the woods and he enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting. He was a member of the Pigeon Conservation Club. He was also a member of the Elkton Lions Club. He bowled, played pool, golfed, loved to play euchre and watch televised sports, especially University of Michigan sports. Mr. Maxwell was an avid supporter of his grandchildren's sporting events and enjoyed sharing time with his grandchildren and family. He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. In addition to Barbara, his wife of 57 years, he is survived by six children, Gerald (Sue) Maxwell, of Alabama, Connie (Ken) Engelhardt, of Rose City, Evelyn (Randy) Fritz, of Sebewaing, Danny (Marjorie) Maxwell, of Pigeon, Nancy (Dr. Ray) Raythatha, of Cass City, and Carl (Phyllis) Maxwell, of Pigeon; 13 grandchildren: Michelle (Brad) Burk, Kevin (Brenda) Fritz, Brian (Robyn) Fritz, Jeff (Tricia) Fritz, Kami (Jeff) Elenbaum, Jodie (Eric) LaLonde, Joell (Eric) Wissner, Jennifer Maxwell, Anand Raythatha, Manisha Raythatha, Rajen Raythatha, Heather Maxwell, and Stephanie Maxwell; 17 great grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Peters, 73, of Cass City, died Monday, February 5, 2007, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. He was born August 28, 1933 in Argyle to Virgel and Sophie (Konkel) Peters. He married Nancy Carol Linderman on June 15, 1957 in Memphis, Tennessee. She died July 20, 1998. Ron graduated from Cass City High School. After his graduation, he joined the Merchant Marines. Ron came home after three or four years to help his dad with the sawmill. Ron worked in the lumbering industry his whole life. He was head Sawyer for a timber company and owned his own company in Cass City with his brother for over 20 years. He also worked cutting and skidding wood in the Upper Peninsula for many years. Ron was a lifetime member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 8892. He loved the woods and being outdoors. Ron is survived by his children, Sue (Wally) Laming, of Cass City, and Steve (Tammy) Peters, of Glennie; grandchildren, Michael Peters, Kelly (Steve) VanLeuvan, and Cory Laming; great grandchildren, Marissa, Lyndsey, Jacob and Evan; sisters, Pat (Howard) Kelly, of Curtisville, and Mary Lou Kerr, of Bay City; brothers, Larry (Harriet) Peters, of Cass City, Dwaine Peters, of Cass City, and Randy (Julie) Peters, of Sherwood; sister-in-law, Judy Peters, of Allegan; many nieces and nephews. Wednesday, February 07, 2007 Mrs. Bertha Dropeski Mrs. Bertha Dropeski, 93, of Parisville, passed away Monday, February 5, 2007, at her daughter's residence in Leonard under hospice care. Bertha was born on December 24, 1913 in Parisville to the late John and Josephine (Ertman) Peruski. She married Harry Dropeski on June 4, 1935 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1988. Bertha was a graduate of the Paris No. 2 Country School. She worked with her husband and family on their farm. She was a member of the Huron County Farm Bureau. Bertha was a lifelong parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where she was a former officer and member of the St. Mary Rosary Sodality. Bertha enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and spending time with her family. Bertha is survived by her children, Shirley Thompson and her husband, Louis, of Leonard, Harold Dropeski and his wife, Carol, of Minden City, Marie Woyciechowski, of Clinton Township, Marvin J. Dropeski, of Port Austin, Betty Michaels and her husband, Richard, of Emmett; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one sister, Rosie Jaskowski and her husband, Irvin, of Minden City; one sister-in-law, Margaret Grifka, of Ubly. Bertha was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary "Mayme" Roggenbuck, Lucy Smalley, and Josephine Smalley; three brothers, John, Sylvester, and Dan Peruski; two stepbrothers, Adam and Cass Peruski. Thursday, February 8, 2007 Margaret L. Evans Margaret L. Evans, 80, of Bad Axe, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. She was born November 2, 1926 in Clarkston, daughter of the late Clayton and Hannah (Inch) Slieff. She married Carl M. Evans on September 18, 1945 in Lapeer. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1998. She was a member of the Grace Community Missionary Church in Bad Axe, where she was active in various church activities. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and meeting with her coffee shop groups. She is survived by one daughter, Joann (Chris) Gerstenschlager, of Bad Axe; four sons, Clayton (Patricia) Evans, of Ubly, Walter (Esther) Evans, of Bad Axe, Jeffrey (Linda) Evans Sr., of Bad Axe, and Keith (Debbie) Evans, of Tucson, Arizona; one brother, Clayton (Mary Lou) Slieff, of Bullhead City, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Amy (Bill) Sternberg, of St. Clair, Missouri, Gina (Chris) Fox, of Phoenix, Arizona, Jeffrey Evans Jr., of Bad Axe, Heidi (James) McLeod, of Bad Axe, Erica (Caleb) Weinhold, of Phoenix, Arizona, Joseph Gerstenschlager, of Bad Axe, Laura (Gerald) Michalski, of Harbor Beach, Isaiah Evans, of Bad Axe, and Matthew Evans, of Bad Axe; 17 great grandchildren; and one stepsister, Marilyn (Charles) Hunt, of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Johannah Evans; one sister, Ida Mae Martinelli; two brothers, Fred and Alec Slieff; and one stepsister, Margaret Judd. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2007, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Officiating will be The Rev. Larry Salsburey, pastor of the Grace Community Missionary Church. Burial will be in Verona Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and from noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Joanne Randall Joanne Randall, 59, of Bay City and formerly of Bad Axe, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007. She was born in Bad Axe on July 18, 1947, the daughter of Arvilla and the late Vincent Arch. She was an antique dealer. She is survived by her husband, David R. Randall; two sons, Robert Randall and William (Vanessa) Randall; three grandchildren, Elisabeth, Adam and Eric Randall; her mother, Arvilla Arch; a sister, Gay (Nelson) Greene; and a brother, Robert (Cindy) Arch. She was preceded in death by her father, Vincent Arch. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2007, at Bay Valley Christian Church in Bay City. The Rev. David S. Ferranti will officiate. A second memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2007, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. The Rev. Jan Dykshoorn will officiate. Friday, February 9, 2007 Horace William Croft Horace William Croft, 86, of Sheridan Township, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at Cooper Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. He was born on September 29, 1921 in Ivanhoe to the late William and Lillie (MacLellan) Croft. Horace was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Frazer Presbyterian Church. He was in the United States Army during World War II and was a survivor of D-Day Omaha Beach. He enjoyed watching ball games on television, and visiting family and friends. He is survived by seven cousins, Jack (Ruth) Esau, Betty (Richard) Barker, Marion Kolleth, Carl Esau, Calvin MacRae, Margaret (Eaton), Bruce MacRae, special friends, Bob (Edna) MacLachlan, and Stanley Heleski. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Saturday, February 10, 2007, at the MacAlpine Chapel in Bad Axe. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the time of the service at noon on Saturday. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2007, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton.
