"Midge" Emerson, 63, of Pigeon, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2007, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born in Middlesex, New York on October 19, 1943, daughter of the late Herbert and Jane (Barkley) Jacobs. Midge was a cosmetologist, owning and operating a beauty shop in Canandaigua, New York prior to moving to Pigeon in the mid-1970s. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was a friend to many. Her survivors include her children, Susie and Darin McGathy, of Bay Port, Jenny Emerson, of Clinton Township, and Laura Emerson, of Pigeon; grandchildren, Shauna McGathy, Brittney McGathy, Katelyn McGathy, Shelby Haag, Brooklyn Beachy, and Ben Beachy; her brother, Chuck, and his wife, Sandra Jacobs, of New York; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Tommy Emerson, on November 16, 1988, and a sister, Shirley Dunton. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at the Bay Port United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Douglas Mater, pastor, officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in Grandlawn Cemetery, Pigeon. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Emerson family or Scheurer Hospital. Walter Adam Lukasiak Walter Adam Lukasiak, 85, of Caseville, died Friday, January 5, 2007, surrounded by his family at Tendercare of Cass City, after a long illness. Walter was born April 15, 1921 in Caseville to the late Michael and Josephine (Szupska) Lukasiak. He lived in Caseville until he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, serving for six years in the Pacific Theater. On Nov. 30, 1946, he married Adeline Moraniec, of Detroit, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Detroit. Adeline "Del" died October 17, 2005. After 30 years of service, Walt retired from the Detroit Fire Department in 1977 with the rank of Captain. The same year he returned to live in Caseville. He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, the Caseville Eagles No. 3690 and Knights of Columbus No. 8042. He enjoyed spending his winters in Jensen Beach, Florida. He was a devoted father and grandfather. Walt is survived by his four children, Christine (Bill) Kravez, of Canton, Mark (Debbie), of Farmington Hills, Marie (David) Quinn, of Caseville, and Brian (Pam), of Maple City; grandchildren Jill, Tracy, Bill Jr., Katherine, Rachael, Mark, Luke and Tyler; and great grandchildren, Philip, Eve, Samuel and Caroline. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adeline; brothers, Jack and Victor; and sisters, Mary Fischer, Fan Edwards, Ann Polcyn and Jane Hineman. George R. Wessels George R. Wessels, 70, of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2007, in the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. He was born in Colfax Township on March 22, 1936 to the late George J. and Ottelia (Brade) Wessels. George married Carol L. Scott on May 11, 1957 at Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach. George worked as a power plant operator for Madonna College, Detroit Schools and is a retired Detroit Edison employee. He was also a farmer and was on the Sand Beach Township Zoning Board of Appeals. George enjoyed many interests including being a school crossing guard, football assistant (with Cinnamon Balls), a hospital volunteer, chauffer, hunting, fishing, and helping those in need. His special time was Christmas where he shared the spirit of the season as Santa. George`s hearty jolly laughter was familiar to many. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge Verona - Huron No. 365 with current position held as secretary and also as DDI of 23A. George was a member of the Harbor Beach Community House Coffee Club, Harbor Beach Gun Club, was involved in the Harbor Beach Conservation Club and a life member of the National Rifle Association. Surviving is his wife Carol L., of Harbor Beach, George T. Wessels and his wife, Evelyn, of Warren, Scott Wessels and his wife, Lorene, of Harbor Beach, David Wessels, of Harbor Beach, daughter, Lynn Molter and her husband, Mike, of Harbor Beach, nine grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Schember, of Sandusky, Wanda Rysberg, of Crystal Falls, Sharon Elliott, of Warren, and a brother, Erick Wessels, of Bad Axe; 7 nieces and 4 nephews. George was preceded in death by sisters, Patricia Miller, of Elkton, and Kathryn Brinker, of Detroit. Abraham, 71, of Bad Axe, passed away Monday, January 8, 2007, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born December 19, 1935 in Hamtramck, daughter of the late Felix and Elizabeth (Paul) Masa. She married Arthur Abraham on November 7, 1955 in Angola, Indiana. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2003. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. She was an active participant in the Family Council in Courtney Manor. She enjoyed gardening, her flower garden and sewing. She is survived by one daughter, Pam (Ken) Koroleski, of Bad Axe; two sons, Robert (Corinne) Abraham, of Port Hope, and David Abraham, of Bad Axe; eight grandchildren, Eric Koroleski and his friend, Tracy MacDowell, of Bad Axe, Kristy (Keith) Stambaugh, of Bad Axe, Justin Abraham, of Camp LeJuene, North Carolina, Marci, Ryan, Brent, Kendra, and Otyllia Abraham, of Port Hope; one great- granddaughter, Makayla Stambaugh (grandma's little shining star), of Bad Axe; one sister-in-law, Nancy (Don) Filion, of Filion; one niece, Tracie (Abe) Beatty, of Oxford; one great nephew, Zachary Beatty, of Oxford; her friend (like the sister she never had), Sue (Elmer) Makowski, of Ruth; and many other special friends. Connors, 80, long time resident of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2007, with his family by his side. He was born February 14, 1926 to the late John and Mayme (Mitchel) Connors. He was united in marriage with Helen Weiss on September 3, 1949. Mark will be remembered by the family he loved as a caring and compassionate husband, father and grandfather. His many friends will remember Mark as a consummate gentleman with one of the smoothest golf swings ever to grace the fairways of Verona Hills and countless other golf links. Mr. Connors graduated from Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School in 1944. He was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for bravery. He was retired from the U.S. Postal services after 44 years. Mark coached varsity golf at Bad Axe High School and Little League baseball. He was a member at Knights of Columbus and the Verona Hills Golf Club where he was on the Board of Directors. In 1953 he was the Verona Hills Golf Club Champion and three-time Senior Club Champion which bears his father's name. He was a church member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe where he was an usher, participated in the choir, taught catechism and played basketball. He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Bad Axe; four sons, Greg (Beth) Connors, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Scott Connors, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jeff Connors, of Bad Axe, and Kelly (Sharon) Connors, of Fenton; one daughter, Wendy (Lee) Gettel, of Pigeon; one brother, Jack Connors, of Bay City; two sisters, Lea Meinhold, of Bad Axe, and Ellen Palm, of Gaylord; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, D.J. Connors; and two sisters, Jean McBride and Bertha Sieman. Memorials may be offered to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Dale Maxwell Dale Maxwell, 64, of Bad Axe, died Sunday, January 7, 2007, at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born December 23, 1942 in Hume Township to the late Charles and Marie (Klee) Maxwell. He was united in marriage with Betty Snay on February 21, 1970. Mr. Maxwell was a long time resident of Bad Axe. He retired in 2004 from Tower Automotive after 40 years of employment. Dale loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed camping at Duggans with his friends and family. He liked sports, motorcycles, cars, playing euchre, and going to the Ubly Drag Strip. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Bad Axe; three daughters, Tracy (Dale) Clark, of Caseville, Kelly (Steve) Young, of Bad Axe, and Marcia (Bob) Jordan, of Kinde; one brother, Fred (Barbara) Maxwell, of Pigeon; six grandchildren, Andrew and Justin Clark, Katlyn and Hannah Young, and Mackenzie and Mason Jordan. There will be a scripture service at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. Gib R. Rooney Gib R. Rooney, 80, of Bad Axe, died Sunday, January 7, 2007, at Saint Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. He was born March 11, 1926 in Bad Axe to the late Robert and Allie (Gilbert) Rooney. He was united in marriage to Helen Holz on December 29, 1951. Mr. Rooney was a 1944 graduate of Port Hope High School where he never missed a class reunion. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Panama Canal Zone. Upon his return, he attended Michigan State University and founded Rooney Contracting Company in 1950, serving as president until his death. Mr. Rooney served as senior warden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was past-president and longstanding member of the Bad Axe Lions Club. He was a former trustee of Huron Memorial Hospital, past board member of Davenport University, the Michigan Petroleum Association, and the Bay City Elks Club. Gib's interests included charter membership in the Port Hope Am Vets. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Huron County Drum and Bugle Corps. He was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed using his talent to entertain others. Gib enjoyed reading, travel and the company of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Bad Axe; two sons, Michael Gib (Mary) Rooney, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Pat (Missy) Rooney, of Bad Axe; one daughter, Robbi (Tim) Kosinski, of Midland; five grandchildren, Katie Rooney, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, David Rooney, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Ryan Carder, of Midland, Tammy Kosinski, of Ann Arbor, and Kelsey Rooney, of Bad Axe; and several nieces and nephews. Wednesday, January 10, 2007 Woodrow Ball Woodrow Ball, 76, of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2007, in the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born December 16, 1930 in Mingo County, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Cullon and Martha (Vinsen) Ball. On November 5, 1953, Woodrow and Elizabeth Reuss were united in marriage in Fulda, Germany. Woody was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a pipe fitter and steel worker for 50 years in Detroit. He retired to Harbor Beach in 1997. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, of Harbor Beach; two sons, Mark Ball and his wife, Grace, of Harbor Beach, and Nick Ball, of Harbor Beach; eight grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Christina, Mathew, Jessie, Chelsea, Beth and Patricia; four brothers, Buddy Ball and his wife, Mary Lou, of South Carolina, Cullon Ball Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of West Virginia, Jimmy Ray Ball and his wife, Deb, of West Virginia, and Ronnie Ball, of West Virginia; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Munson, of Petersburg, Virginia. Gornowich, 82, of Harbor Beach, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at his home following a brief illness. Born in Harbor Beach on July 28, 1924, he was the son of the late Bruno and Julia (Woychowski) Gornowich. Irwin was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II serving in Europe and Germany. He was a retired employee of the V-8 General Motors plant in Flint retiring in 1974 after working for 33 years. Irwin was a member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW, both in Davison, and a life member of the Parisville VFW Post in Ruth. Irwin is survived by two daughters, Sharon Matherson, of Clinton Township, and Cynthia Nelson, of Corunna; five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Batton, of Shelby Township, and Joyce VanKirk, of Warren; two brothers, Leonard Gornowich and Jerry Gornowich, both of Harbor Beach. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Victoria Wilson, Beatrice Guilds, and Barb Ferrens. Hicks Catherine "Kitty" L. Hicks, 57, of Harbor Beach, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at Saint Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Catherine was born February 14, 1949 in Detroit to the late Charles and Catherine (Becker) Partaka. She married Luther "Butch" Hicks on November 24, 1990 in Ubly. He preceded her in death on April 25, 2003. Catherine attended Ubly High School. She worked at various jobs in Sanilac and Huron Counties. Catherine lived in Texas for 10 years with her husband, Luther "Butch." She moved to the Harbor Beach area in 2003. Catherine attended an area church and enjoyed playing bingo, crafting and singing. Catherine is survived by two daughters, Tina Siemen and her husband, Mike, of Harbor Beach, Marlene Whitenburg and her husband, John, of Toledo, Ohio; three grandchildren, Derek and Christopher Siemen and Jessica Whitenburg; three brothers, Edward Schwartz and his significant other, Cindy Casey, of Ubly, Charles Sperry and his wife, Patricia, of Minden City, Franklin Partaka and his wife, Violet, of Clinton Township; five sisters, Rose Smith and her husband, William, of Pontiac, Mayme Sackrider and her husband, Charles, of Tennessee, and Wolverine, Caroline "Carol" MacShara and her husband, Scott, of Belleville, Florence "Dolly" Casey and her husband, Troy, of Minden City, and Shirley Crothers, of Harbor Beach. Kauffold, 81, died Thursday morning, January 11, 2007, at her home following a two-year illness. She was born December 5, 1925 in Saginaw, daughter of the late Robert J. and Jessie (Short) Schimmer. She and her husband attended Arthur Hill High School graduating in 1943. They moved to Sebewaing in 1955 when he became a partner in the Kauffold-Hahn Insurance Agency. She worked as a secretary there for many years. She was united in marriage to William A. Kauffold on September 14, 1945 in Saginaw. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1991. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was an avid golfer and a member of Scenic Golf and Country Club in Pigeon, shooting a hole-in-one when she was in her 70s. Carmen enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Maxine Kauffold, Randy and Melissa, all of Sebewaing, Christopher and Michelle, of Grosse Pointe Farms; one daughter and son-in- law, Susan and Roy Krauss, of Reese; seven grandchildren, Angela (Trent) Teeg, of Caledonia, Bill (Lynette) Kauffold, of Unionville, Matt Kauffold, of Sebewaing, Joel Krauss, of Kalamazoo, Stacey (Glen) Beers, of Rockford, Trisha Kauffold and Jenny Kauffold, of Unionville; eight great grandchildren, Alexandra and Grace Tegg, Emma, Wyatt, Ruby, and Cooper Kauffold, Paige and Shelby Beers; and several nieces and nephews. Weidman, 79, of Decker, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at the Marlette Regional Hospital - Hospice Residence. Mr. Weidman has lived in Decker since 1955 and was previously from the Pigeon area. He was born November 27, 1927 in Pigeon, son of the late Moses and Laura (Eichler) Weidman. He married Kathryn Beck on November 3, 1951 in Bay City. He was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marlette. He worked as a welder for Guerdons Industry and Marlette Square Tube and also farmed. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, of Decker; son, John and Pamela Weidman, of Kingston; daughter, Carol and Martin Wrobel, of Caro; brothers, Raymond and Doris Weidman, of Warren, and Howard and Alice Weidman, of Bay City; and grandchildren, Crystal, Kevin, Adam, Erin, and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ervin, Leland and Harold Weidman; and a sister, Eleanor Behn. Florence Kundinger Florence Kundinger, 81, of Sebewaing, died Thursday, January 11, 2007, at Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Perdue, 71, of Minden City, passed away suddenly Wednesday, January 10, 2007. Tom was the son of the late Thomas Perdue and Susan (Bruce) Perdue. He resided in Port Hope the first 53 years of his life and was a farmer and construction worker by trade. Tom was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Forestville. In his younger days, Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was always an avid fan of baseball and rooted for the Detroit Tigers even through the "lean" years. He enjoyed playing euchre and pinochle and at one time belonged to several card clubs. In his golden years, Tom enjoyed watching "Law and Order," "Keeping Up Appearances," "Are You Being Served," and "Hee-Haw” on television. He especially enjoyed family gatherings. In August 1967, Tom married Mary Helen Harp and instantly became a dad of six. One year later, a dad of seven. He will be greatly missed by his children, Richard Harp, David (Tamera) Harp and Mary Harp, all of Harbor Beach, Deborah (Mel) Barc, of Highland, Daniel (Karen) Harp, of West Bloomfield, and Kathleen Perdue and her special friend, Richard Kain, of Minden City; grandchildren, Sarah (David) Jordan, Timothy, Rebecca, and Emily Harp, Lindy Harp, Jason Barc, and Victoria, Daniel and Elizabeth Harp; his great grandchildren, Vincent Wolschleger, Savannah and Cal Jordan. Tom is survived by his sister, Leona Muter; sisters-in-law, Delores Wancha and Margaret York; brother-in- law, John York; and several nieces and nephews. Thomas was reunited in Heaven with many loved ones including his wife, Mary Helen; son, Paul Harp; brother, William Perdue; sisters, Betty Perdue, Rose Pomerantz and Susan Navock; sisters-in-law, Gloria Fitzgerald and Dorothy Perdue; brothers-in-law, Robert Farmer, Charles Wancha, Walter Pomerantz, Forest Muter and Stanley Navock; nephew, Kevin York; niece, Patty Braun; and great-nieces, Brenda and Leann Wendt. A funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the MacAlpine Funeral Chapel in Bad Axe. Burial will be in New River Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the chapel.
