Alfreda Boesch, 95, of Sebewaing, died Friday, April 6, 2007, at her home. She was born December 16, 1911 in Gagetown, daughter of the late Alfred and Ethel C. (Howell) Sting. She was united in marriage to Edgar S. Boesch on Auguast 18, 1934 at Owendale United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1975. Alfreda had been a school teacher, starting at the Ridge school and later for the Bay Port school system for 30 years, also serving as principal before retiring in 1962. She enjoyed quilting, reading, and especially writing stories of which many were published. Surviving are her children, Andre (Paul) Benson, of Asheville, North Carolina, Brice (Pat) Boesch, of Denver, Colorado, Emily Boesch, of Sebewaing, LaVonne (James) Eberlein, of Unionville, Doralee (Gerry) Zeneberg, of Traverse City, and LeRoy (Lillian) Boesch, of Sebewaing; 21 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; also two special nephews who spent their summers with her, Roy Boudrie, of Florida, and Dale Boudrie, of Houghton Lake; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ottomer Sting; two sisters, Mertie Kuisel and Bernice Peden; great granddaughter, Haley Mae Boesch; and nephew, Ken Boudrie. The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Essexville. Pastor Kim Lewis will officiate with burial in New Bay Port Cemetery, Bay Port. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 9 p.m. today at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home. She will lie in state from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the March of Dimes or Special Olympics. Terrance "Terry" P. Bouverette Terrance P. "Terry" Bouverette, 52, of Elkton, died Friday, April 6, 2007, at the home of his daughter while under hospice care. He was born December 18, 1954 in Bad Axe to Dorothy (Grigg) Bouverette and the late Frederick Bouverette. After high school, Terry became a diesel mechanic and drove truck for Wiederhold Freight Lines in Elkton. Later he was employed at Van Poppelen's in Bay City. On August 2, 1988 an accident occurred at work leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. This setback didn't slow him down much; he stayed very active working on vehicles, camping and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by two children, Rocky (Kathy) Bouverette, of Deckerville, and Tracy (fiancee, Mike Bolda), of Pigeon; eight grandchildren, Kelsey and Haven Bouverette, Calvin, Cheyenne, and Cailee Janik, and Mariah, Kennedy and Landen Bolda; his mother, Dorothy Bouverette, of Caseville; three brothers, Randy (Deb) Bouverette, of Elkton, Keith (Jenney) Bouverette, of Bad Axe, and Tim Bouverette, of Croswell; five sisters, Kathy (Dave) Briesmiester, of Caseville, Barb (Tim) Heiden, of Elkton, Theresa (Gary) Miller, of Elkton, Mary (Paul) Greyerbiehl, of Bad Axe, and Diane Palock, of Bad Axe. Mr. Braun was born January 2, 1950 in Detroit and retired from General Motors after 35 years as an inspector and job setter. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran. Cottick, 88, of Caseville, died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe of natural causes. Ann was born August 1, 1918 in Houston, Texas to the late George and Mary (Stefuk) Danyluk. Her family moved to Huron County when she was a child and Ann finished school at Pinnebog High School. Ann married Thomas W. Cottick of Bad Axe on May 21, 1945 in Detroit. Tom died May 19, 2003. Ann has lived in Caseville since 1957. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, and collecting and refinishing antiques. She traveled the country with her late husband attending Marine Corps reunions. Memorials may be offered to the Family Discretionary Fund. Gerald Walter Langley Gerald Walter Langley, 72, of Montgomery, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at home. He was born on September 27, 1934 in Caseville to Warren and Doris (Denzer) Langley. He was a farmer and retired Adult Foster Care Home operator. Mr. Langley belonged to the Montgomery United Brethren Church and was an avid horse puller and fisherman. He loved gardening, entertaining his grandchildren, and spending time with his family. Edward Carl Lasko Edward Carl Lasko, 45, of Caseville, died unexpectedly Friday, April 6, 2007, at home. Edward was born May 26, 1961 in Onaway to the late Edward and Patricia (Larsen) Lasko. His family moved to Caseville in 1974. He had been employed at Michigan Sugar in Sebewaing. He enjoyed fishing and music. Nowiski, 88, of Harbor Beach, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the Huron Medical Care Facility of Bad Axe. He was born May 3, 1918 in Paris Township to the late Theodore and Mary (Shubert) Nowiski. Roman married Frances Long on February 3, 1945. She preceded him in death on June 3, 1996. Roman was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church. He was a painter for Hercules for 40 years before retiring in 1980. He loved playing cards, giving tractor rides and loved to be in his garden. He also managed the local car wash for many years. Joseph Clark Schwedler Joseph Clark Schwedler, 27, of Crystal Falls, was killed in action in Al Anbar province, Iraq, on April 6, 2007. Schwedler, a Navy SEAL, was participating in his team's assault on a home occupied by terrorists involved in the recent downing of a Coalition helicopter. An Iraqi soldier involved in the joint operation also was killed, and two other SEALs were wounded. Schwedler, the eldest son of Carl Joseph and Susan Herrington Schwedler, of Crystal Falls, was born May 1, 1979, in Iron Mountain. He graduated from Crystal Falls Forest Park High School in 1997, and attended Michigan State University before becoming a Navy SEAL. He joined the Navy in 2002. After basic training at the Great Lakes Naval Station, he completed his training in San Diego and was assigned to SEAL Team FOUR in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was a dedicated member of the SEALs and reenlisted in the Navy while in Iraq during his first tour of duty there in 2005. He returned to Iraq in October 2006 and had been scheduled to return to the U.S. later this month. Schwedler participated in many high school activities, including football, basketball, and track. He was active in student council and served as senior class president. While at Michigan State, Schwedler was a member of the rowing team. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, skiing and camping. Schwedler is survived by his parents; his sister, Catherine, of Ferndale; his brother, Thomas, and his sister-in-law, Mary, of West Bend, Wisconsin. His grandparents are Ann Kavanagh Schwedler and the late John Thomas Schwedler, of Port Austin; and Charles Clark Herrington and the late Jeannette Buckley Herrington, of Bad Axe. Elizabeth was born in Bad Axe on February 8, 1925, the daughter of the late Peter and Henrietta (Kapler) Campbell. On December 29, 1944, she married John D. (Jack) Gates, and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2002. Surviving are children, John Gates and his wife, Linda, of Holt, Jim Gates, of Lebanon, Indiana, Carol Jansen and her husband, Bill, of Newport News, Virginia, Wendy Mozingo and her husband, Hank, of Davison; 10 grandchildren, Kim and her husband, Mark Coscarella, Shannon Langton and her husband, Ed, John A. Robert "Bob" Allen Ward Robert "Bob" Allen Ward, 63, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Virginia. Robert was born September 26, 1943 in Bad Axe to Patricia (Heasty) Fisher and the late I. O. Ward. He was a retired truck driver and farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Robert is survived by his mother, Patricia (Heasty) Fisher, of Kissimmee, Florida and two brothers. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Charlie Ward. Wednesday, April 11, 2007 Eric Damon Brandenburg Eric Damon Brandenburg, 40, of Bad Axe, died Sunday, April 8, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw. Eric was born March 10, 1967 in Jacksonville, Florida, son of Harold and Mary (Lash) Brandenburg. He and Tracy McComb were married March 8, 2003 in Milan. Eric grew up in Lake Orion and enjoyed taking care of their five dogs, working on classic cars, and building a Corsair (airplane). He also enjoyed working on computers, woodworking, water sports and landscaping. He is survived by his wife, Tracy; his parents, Harold and Mary Brandenburg, of Cass City; one sister, Melissia (Larry) Craig, of Hadley; his brother, Michael (Leslee) Brandenburg, of Oxford; nieces and nephews, Jenifer Craig, Lilly and Liam Brandenburg, Dakota McKinnon, Giovanni and Dominic Aubuchon; maternal grandparents, Robert Lash and Audrey Vilas, of Cass City; and paternal grandparent, Pauline Boone, of Oxford. Schweitzer, 83, of Caro, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. The former Elizabeth Toht was born June 13, 1923 in Dayton, Ohio. She moved to Detroit as a child, moved to Cass City and then on to Pigeon as a young lady. Elizabeth Toht married Edward Fibranz and he preceded her in death in August 1955. On November 10, 1956, she married Herb Schweitzer, and he preceded her in death in August 1974. For more than 20 years, she was a companion to Bernie Swick until his passing. They enjoyed traveling, and she was an accomplished musician and had her own band in Florida. Betty enjoyed crocheting and shuffleboard. She was a devoted mother and a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville. She is survived by five children, Phyllis (Kinsey) Hazard, of Bad Axe, Barry Schweitzer, of Vassar, Barbara (John) Borka, of Columbiaville, Nancy Eberline, of Sebewaing, and Dale (June) Schweitzer, of Pigeon; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Fibranz and her siblings, Mary Sayers, and an infant brother, John. Thursday, April 12, 2007 Elsie Kauflin Elsie (Bannick-Lord) Kauflin, 93, of Bad Axe, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on December 11, 1913 in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada to the late John Alfred and Eliza (Hudson) Lee. She married Edward Bannick on May 26, 1947. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1979. She later married Delbert Lord who preceded her in death in 1987. She was a member of Faith Gospel Tabernacle and had served as a volunteer in the Foster Grandparent Program. She graduated from the Briercrest Bible Institute in Canada in 1939. Surviving by two nieces, Linda (Bill) Dommer, of Waterford, Helen (Harold) Hayward, of Oxford; one nephew, Charles (Brenda) Fotheringham, of Oxford; two loving stepdaughters, Ilene Bannick, of Bad Axe, Adeline Rogers; one stepson, James (Pat) Bannick, of Diamondale; and several stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Lee; and one sister, Edith Fotheringham. Navock, 75, of Grindstone, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007, at his home. He was born December 19, 1931 to the late Jacob and Nellie (Strozeski) Navock. Mr. Navock was a lifelong resident of Grindstone where he farmed. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and of the Port Austin Conservation Club. He enjoyed playing cards and hunting. He is survived by one brother, Richard (Theresa) Navock, of Kinde; two sisters-in-law, Mary Navock and Sophia Navock, both of Port Austin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank Navock, Stanley Navock, Leo Navock, and John Navock; three sisters, Gertrude Cheslock, Stella Shaddock, and Theresa Ricketts. Cremation has taken pace and there will be a memorial service with visitation at 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Port Austin. Friday, April 13, 2007 Patricia "Patty" Joyce McCloskey Patricia "Patty" Joyce McCloskey, 54, formerly of Cass City, passed away Friday, March 30, 2007, following a lingering illness. She was born on July 23, 1952, daughter of the late Charles (Bud) and Doris McCloskey. Patty graduated from Kingston High School in 1970. She worked as a bartender, most of that time being at the Rolling Hills Golf Course in Cass City. She loved shooting pool, playing cribbage, riding horses, animals and her '67 Mustang. Patty is survived by her three children and their spouses, Bob and Patty Kababik, of Caro, Billy and Julie Maynard, of Niles, Christina Kababik and John McNaughton, of Bay City; three grandchildren, Alec and Chase Kababik, and Cody Maynard; five siblings, Marion Wheil, Becky Wright, Robie and Dave Crosby, Brian and Ruth McCloskey, and Devin McCloskey; beloved friends, Joe Kababik and Jerry Parker (J. P. aka Bitter Creek); 10 nieces and nephews, Levi Crosby, Melissa, Ryan and Chad McCloskey, Heather, Ashley, and Melissa Wilmoth, Cassandra Hartwick, Kaitlyn Trapp, and Holden Barber. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Brad and Tommy McCloskey; close grandmother, Marion Leham; niece, Doris Nelson; nephews, Neil and Wayne Nelson. The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at the Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City. Visitation will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. Anna Streussnig Anna Streussnig, 90, of Saginaw, passed away Monday, April 9, 2007, at Covenant- Harrison. Anna Forbes Menter was born July 22, 1916 in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Daniel and Amelia (Forbes) Menter. She married Raymond Streussnig on October 2, 1934. He preceded her in death on April 29, 2003. Anna worked side by side with her beloved husband, Ray, owning and operating Hamilton Home Bakery, Murphy's Bakery, Ray and Ann's Bakery, and the Court Center Bakery. Surviving are six children, Ted (Margie) Streussnig, of Bad Axe, Judith (Gaitis) Skabardis, of Saginaw, Paul (Nancy) Streussnig, of Bad Axe, Mary Ann Kuntze, of Ubly, Linda (David) Lagalo, of Saginaw, Gretchen Streussnig, of Adrian; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2007, at the W.L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, in Saginaw, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.
