Open house was scheduled for one hour this afternoon. Although Mrs. Slack is in fairly good health, the observance was limited to an hour so that she would not be tired by it. Mrs. Slack, the former Miss Lucinda Jenkins, was born July 27, 1858 in Ontario. Her father, Andrew Jenkins died when she was four years old, and her mother, Mrs. Frances Jenkins, moved with her three children, Lucinda, Joseph and Rachel, to Cohoes, N.Y. In 1873, Mrs. Slack came with her mother to Bingham Township. She was married June 11, 1876 to Mr. Slack. Mrs. Slack recalls Huron County when it was a dense wilderness with bear and deer. She has a vivid recollection of the great forest fire of 1881. Mr. and Mrs. Slack farmed many years before they moved to Bad Axe about 30 years ago. Mr. Slack died Nov. 27, 1936. Mr. and Mrs. Slack were parents of 12 sons and a daughter. Six sons are living: Warren A. Slack, Bad Axe; Andrew and Hazen Slack, both of Detroit; Frank Slack, Ubly; Herbert Slack, Grand Rapids; and William Slack, Gerber, Calif. Joseph Jenkins, brother of Mrs. Slack, is living in Missoula, Montana. He is 88 years old. dz
