Burlingame Abbott, 93, of 525 Widener Lane, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday in her home after an illness. Mrs. Abbott was bom March 28, 1900, in Grand Marais, Michigan, and moved to South Bend in 1957. On June 10, 1922, in Detroit, she married Byers A. Burlingame, the last president of Studebaker Corp. He died August 30, 1970. On March 17, 1978, in Lansing, Michigan, she married Frank Abbott. He died May 12, 1991. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Rutledge of Detroit; a son, Norman Burlingame of South Bend; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Magdalen Therese, O.P., of Desert Hot Springs, California, and Sister Ann Felecitas, O.P., of Adrian, Michigan; and a brother, William Peplin of Cleveland Ohio. A son. Dr. Donald O. Burlingame, died August 7, 1981. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, South Bend Garden Club, Progress Club, Northern Indiana Historical Society, Elks Club, a life member of Studebaker Museum, patron member of South Bend Symphony and a charter member of Summit Club. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Jude Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Riverview Mausoleum. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. and after 10 a.m. Saturday in the church. A rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army.
