Don was born May 17, 1933 in Ruth, Michigan to Marcus and Mary (Klee) Booms. On January 9, 1954 in Harbor Beach, Don was united in marriage to Barbara Joan Pionk and in 2011 she preceded him in death. Don worked on the ore boats, sailing the Great Lakes for a few years prior to moving to Missaukee County where he began the task of dairy farming. Don enjoyed fishing in the Munising area and Canada and also deer hunting. He was a great outdoorsman and managed a large garden each year and stayed active cutting firewood. He enjoyed gatherings with his family. Don was a lifelong member of the St. Stephen Catholic Church in Lake City. Don is survived by his seven children: David (Ona) and Gary (Shirley) both of Lake City, Russell (Lori), Bob (Roxanne), Janet (Gilbert) Davis, and Scott (Amy) all of Moorestown, and Karen (John) Alberts of Cadillac. Thirty-one grandchildren, sixty great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren also survive him. Don is also survived by his siblings: Sister Dorothy Booms, Jim (Judy) Booms, Arlene Davenport, Grace (Frank) England, Chuck (Susan) Booms, Dennis (Patsy) Booms, Raymond (Marjean) Booms, Rose Marie Booms, and Joan (Martin) Miller and sister in laws: June (Clifford) Essenmacher, Pauline Ginther and Audrey Booms, and brother in laws: Ronald (Ginny) Pionk and Eldon Barryhill and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother: William, sisters: Helen and Ann and brothers in law: Edward Pionk and Gary Davenport. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the St. Stephen Catholic Church with a Rosary beginning at 7:30 pm. Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at St. Stephen with visitation at 10:00 a.m. until services. Rev. Alex Kowalkowski will officiate. Burial will follow in the Moorestown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Stephen Catholic Church. The family is being served by the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City.
