Timothy Bernard Booms December 9, 1966 - May 27, 2023 Timothy Booms age 56 of Almont and formerly of Port Hope passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on December 9, 1966, the son of Thomas and Diana (Susalla) Booms in Harbor Beach. After graduating Port Hope High School in 1985, Tim attended Saginaw Valley State University, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1990. Tim then began working as a Configuration Management Process Engineer at General Dynamics Land Systems (GD) in Sterling Heights. He received his Master of Science in General Administration from Central Michigan University in 1996 and was moved to the Structures Design section at GD in 1999. Tim received the Engineering Design and Development Engineer of the Year Award in 2009, was promoted to the Structure and Survivability Section Manager in 2011, and earned a GD Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022. While attending a high school dance in 1984, Tim met his wife-to-be, Roxanne Bowers, and he said it was love at first sight. They were married on May 11, 1991 at Our Lady of Lake Huron in Harbor Beach. Together, they moved south to Almont to be closer to their jobs and to raise their family. Tim was a devoted husband and father, spending most of his time outside of work with his family. In his free time, Tim enjoyed finding and restoring antique engines and tractors, a hobby that he picked up from his father and grandfather. Their family would never miss the annual 4th of July Tractor Show in Port Hope. Tim was very creative and artistic, whether he was working on a house project with his wife or helping his daughter or son with a project for school. Together, Tim and his family enjoyed camping, both at campgrounds and on "their land," a 20-acre property in Port Hope that they bought in 1990 and spent years planting hundreds of trees, building sheds, and making several other improvements to. Another one of Tim's hobbies over the last 7 years was making homemade mead, wine, and beer. In January 2021, Tim was unexpectedly diagnosed with Glioblastoma (GBM) brain cancer which has a median survival rate of 13 months. He underwent surgery, chemo, radiation, and several other treatments to keep the cancer at bay.
