He was born on February 6, 1944 in Helena, son of the late Leonard and Rita (Geiger) Booms. Richard Booms ran the good race to the finish line with hope. He and the love of his life, Connie, were married September 12, 1964. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. Dad was our solid rock in the storm, a steady presence in our family. Every morning, he and mom took time to pray for each of us by name- kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, Godchildren, our nation, and countless others. Richard was a natural at mechanical engineering and logic, which drove his career path from tool and dye shops in "the city" to Puerto Rico, South Carolina and back to Bad Axe. Finally, to Valley Gear, the company he founded. Valley Gear was more than a livelihood for him. Dad lead by example. He worked harder than anyone who worked for him. Devoted to the end, he was tickled that he was able to help solve a machine issue over the phone, when he was too weak to go in person. Richard was also a crack shot. Any squirrel on the bird feeder or groundhog within sight, was taking a big chance. While he loved hunting and bagging his own big buck, he found just as much joy in the grandkid's youth hunts, or taking them for walks down the back lane to the pond to catch a bass or catfish. Dad's long battle with colon cancer was approached with Grace and Hope. The support of family and friends and prayer warriors were invaluable. We are certain all the prayers and God's hand in his care are why Dad had 5 long GOOD years. He will be GREATLY missed by his wife of 60 years, Constance (Seidl); children, Michelle Macari (John), Darin Booms (Sharon), Robert Booms, Ryan Booms (Lori); [great] grandchildren, Melanie Macari (Tony Fischels) [Zeke, {+Ayla} and baby girl], David Macari (Julianna) [Joseph, Giorgio, Ennio], Miriam Sagher (Ethan) [Eli and Mia], Jacob Booms (Melissa) {+Isabella}, Madeline Booms (Daniel Wingert), Curtis Booms (Melanie) [Bennett and baby girl], Nick Booms, Danielle Booms [Liam]. Alex Booms, Miranda Booms, Megan Booms (Gary Palach), Jordan Booms, and Amber Booms. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Rita (Geiger) Booms of Helena, Michigan. He will also be greatly missed by his 9 brothers, 4 sisters, and their spouses. We are confidently hopeful to see you again, Richard/Dad/Grampa/Great-Ba-Boom. Pray for us as we pray for you. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 11 am at St. Hubert Parish – Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
