Broughton April 2, 1925 - January 31, 2011 Mr. Francis J. "Sonny", age 85 of Sterling Heights; January 31, 2011. Mr. Broughton was a superb architect, intrepid world traveler, fervent Christian, indulgent father and husband of 61 years to Diana (Dehem). "Frank" served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater of operations during WWII. He spent that time receiving and decoding messages when not busy manning a gun to fight the Kamikaze planes that aimed their aircraft at U.S. ships. He received his education at Detroit Institute of Technology and worked with several Detroit area architectural firms. His proudest achievement was his work on Kirk-In-The- Hills gothic cathedral. Frank spent many years operating his architectural office in St Clair Shores where he designed many of the Michigan Big Boy restaurants and other commercial buildings and school properties. He was the son of Julian, an independent Mason contractor and Helen who loved her garden and work with Garden Clubs of Grosse Pointe. Dear father of Gary (Birgitt), Steven (Nancy), Brian (Ginny), Karen Burgess, and Kirk (Kathy). He has seven Grandchildren and five Great-Grandchildren. Brother of the late Roman and is survived by sisters Lorraine Kilcoyne and Mary Ellen Clements. A memorial mass will be celebrated 9:30am (visitation starting at 9:00am) Saturday, April 2, 2011 at St Michael Catholic Community, 40501 Hayes Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48313. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Karmanos Cancer Foundation 18831 W. 12 Mile, Lathrup Village, MI. 48076 Published online Dignity Memorial.
