Broughton our strong, adventurous, smart, and caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on February 25, 2019. Diana was born in Detroit on March 24, 1929, the daughter of the late Maurice and Marie (Catteeuw) Dehem. Diana leaves to cherish her memory, children Gary (Birgitte), Steven (Nancy), Brian (Ginny), Karen Burgess and Kirk (Kathy). She was the cherished grandmother of seven and great grandmother of eleven. In addition to her parents, Diana was welcomed home to heaven by her husband, Francis J. Broughton and her brother Daniel Dehem. Diana was a highly intellectual individual, fiercely independent and hard-working. She was a University of Michigan alumni and in later years attended Walsh College. Throughout her life Diana did extensive traveling with her husband, relatives and friends. She visited every US state, Mexico, the Caribbean, many European countries, as well as China, Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand. She loved following the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings, and the U of M Wolverines. In younger years she was an avid and able athlete playing golf, field hockey, baseball, basketball, and bowling. She also taught her kids the rules of baseball, football, and basketball. Diana’s love also extended to music and theater. She exposed her family to artistic training and attended performances whenever possible. She loved reading, especially mysteries, but also enjoyed biographies fiction and politics. She supported higher education and continually sought to learn and share what she had learned. She was also the first generation born in America from an all Belgian heritage. A Memorial Gathering for Diana will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 9:30am at St. Michael Catholic Church, 40501 Hayes Road in Sterling Heights. Friends may visit the church on Friday beginning at 9:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to The Capuchins, 1820 Mt. Elliott Street, Detroit, MI 48207.
