Harley H. Burkhard
March 24, 1930 - December 26, 2003
Harley H. Burkhard, 73, of Bad Axe, Michigan, passed away December 26, 2003, at 
Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw following a brief illness.  He was born on 
March 24, 1930 in Harbor Beach, son of the late Alexander and Edith 
(Gerstenschlager) Burkhard.  He married Angeline Hessling on September 5, 1953 
in Detroit.  They celebrated 50 years of marriage in September of 2003.  Mr. 
Burkhard was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus 
and the Ubly Fox Hunter's Club.  He served two years on the Bad Axe City 
Council. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He enjoyed 
woodworking, hunting, fishing, boating, and traveling. He was employed at 
McCall's Plumbing and Heating from 1956 until 1965 when he purchased the 
business from Howard McCall.  The business then became Burkhard Plumbing and 
Heating.  Harley owned and operated the business from 1965 until his retirement 
in 1992. 

He was survived by his wife, Angeline Burkhard, of Bad Axe; three sons, Michael 
Burkhard and his wife, Karen, of Bad Axe, Thomas Burkhard and his wife, 
Heather, of Bad Axe, and Harley D. Burkhard and his wife, Kathy, of Saginaw; 
five daughters, Cindy Maurer and her husband, Clem, of Bad Axe, Brenda Kennedy 
and her husband, Terry, of Bad Axe, Pamela Rivard and her husband, Larry, of 
Bad Axe, Deborah Rogers and her husband, Jim, of Ortonville, Darlene Candela 
and her husband, Joe, of Cass City; six brothers, Harold Burkhard and his wife, 
Dorothy, of Harbor Beach, Edwin Burkhard and his wife, Bernice, of Harbor 
Beach, Alex Burkhard, Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Harbor Beach, Leslie Burkhard 
and his wife, Dotty, of Harbor Beach, Delbert Burkhard and his wife, Grace, of 
Harbor Beach, Robert Burkhard and his wife, Betty, of Bad Axe; three sisters, 
Emily Smith and her husband, Jim, of Harbor Beach, Elaine LaBelle, of Marlette, 
Beverly Forstner, of Durand; 17 grandchildren, Eric and Tammy Burkhard, Kevin 
Maurer, Lauren and Ryan Burkhard, Jennifer, Justin and Joshua Kennedy, Rebecca, 
Christopher and Jaclyn Rivard, Matthew and Katelyn Rogers, Christine and 
Jonathan Burkhard, Joseph and Delanie Candela.   He was preceded in death by 
one daughter, Patricia Burkhard; three grandchildren, Brian Burkhard, Jason 
Maurer and Jessica Rogers; two brothers, Roland and Carl Burkhard; one brother-
in-law, Glen Forstner. 

Mass of Christian Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Fr. James Carlson 
officiated.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Published December 28,
