The accident occurred on the farm of his parents, Mr & Mrs Frank Booms, Sherman twp, 1 mile north and 4 1/2 east of Ruth. Ralph and his 2 younger brothers, Angus and Eugene, were cutting down a large tree on the farm. They cut the tree down and it was leaning up in the air about 8 feet on 2 of its branches when the tree rolled over, knocked Ralph to the ground and landed on top of him. Coroner Alden MacAlpine said that Ralph died of a crushed chest. He was born Feb 27, 1936 in Sherman twp. Ralph was a sailor on the Great Lakes for the last 3 1/2 years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of SS Peter & Paul Cath ch, Ruth. Survivors are his parents, Mr & Mrs Frank booms, Harbor Beach, 7 sisters, Mrs William Bishop, Memphis, MI; Mrs Titus Salowitz and Mrs Donald Long, both of Palms, Mrs Charles Van Wormer, Pontiac, Mrs Ira Wrubel, Harbor Beach, Mrs Bernard Wrubel, Detroit, Irene Booms at home; 4 brothers, Melvin and Eugene, both of Harbor Beach, Vincent, Detroit and Angus at home. Remains are at Zinger Funeral Home, Ruth. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Sat at SS Peter & Paul Cath Ch, Ruth. Burial will be in church cemetery. Huron Tribune Date unknown
