Richard Edward Coats 
September 24, 1933 - September 9, 2017
Richard Edward Coats, 83, of Port Huron, died Saturday, September 9, 2017.  He 
was born September 24, 1933 in Worth Township to the late Henry and Iva Coats.  
He married Karen Lee Dropiewski on April 25, 1964 in St. Stephens Catholic 
Church, Port Huron.  She preceded him in death on July 20, 2015.

Richard retired from Eugene Welding after 30 years and also worked on the great 
lakes aboard the freighter "Joseph Wood".  He enjoyed dancing and spending time 
with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by a daughter, Cathy (David) Dunsmore; grandchildren, Eliot & 
Ella Dunsmore; brother, Tim Coats; sister, Ella Curtis; and many nieces and 
nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas & Max Coats.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in 
Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of 
service. Deacon Dennis Crimmins will officiate.  Memorial contributions may be 
made to the National Parkinson's Foundation.   Published by The Times Herald
