Betty was born on May 16, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Walter and Minnie Trepkowski. She attended Cedardale Elementary School in Palms through 8th grade and later graduated from Bad Axe High School. On June 6, 1953, she married the love of her life, Ernest Cornett at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rapson. Ernie passed away on May 17, 1993. Betty worked for Kritzman's Clothing Store for many years until her retirement in 1987. She loved being with her family, playing cards and going to senior dances with her many friends. She was also a long time member of St Hubert Parish (Sacred Heart) in Bad Axe. Betty is survived by her daughters, Colleen Cornett, Bad Axe, Carol (Steve) Sofka, Harrison and Joan (Michael) Buda, Freeland. The sunshine of her life were her three grandchildren, Krysten (Tory) Rowley, Mancelona, Michigan, Steven Buda, Nashville, Tenneesee and Thomas (Alejandra) Sofka, Panama City, Florida. Her life was completed by her great-grandson, Jack Rowley. In addition, she is survived by her three sisters, Doris Holz, Mary Ann Brown and Nancy (Gerald) Smith and one sister in law, Peggy Sakowski and many nieces and nephews. Along with Ernie and her parents, Betty was predeceased by her in laws, George and Susan Cornett, two brothers, James (Patricia) and Deward Trepkowski, her brothers and sister in laws, Albert Cornett, Lorraine (Richard) Richter, Theresa (Charles (Bart)) Howard, Wilburt Brown and Kenneth Holz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11:30 AM at St Hubert Parish –Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Father TJ Fleming will preside. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 3 – 7 pm at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe and Saturday at the church from 10:30 until the time of service.
