Carmella B. (Attard) Downey
July 1, 1933 - June 25, 2018
Carmella Downey, age 85, passed away June 25, 2018.  She was born April 20, 1933 
in Pontiac, Michigan, daughter of the late Emanuel and Ester (Sreltz) Attard. On 
June 14, 1952, Carmella was united in marriage to James Downey.  Their marriage 
spanned 57 years until James' passing in 2009 and was blessed with two daughters 
and one grandson.  Carmella was a kind, generous and selfless person.  Her 
strong faith in God gave her a servants heart and she could be counted on to 
always help others in need.  She loved to travel and cook and was proud of her 
Maltese heritage.  Carmella will always be remembered as being a loving and 
devoted mother to her daughters and grandmother to her grandson.  She was very 
proud of her grandson, Jesse who is currently deployed with U.S. Air Force.  She 
is survived by her daughters: Trina Downey and Carleen Champagne; and her 
grandson, Jesse Champagne.  Carmella was preceded in death by her husband, James 
and her brother, Richard Attard. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 1 from 2:00PM-6:00PM with Scripture 
prayers at 5:00PM at PHILLIPS FUNERAL HOME, 122 West Lake St., South Lyon.  A 
funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 2 at 11:00AM at St. Joseph 
Catholic Church, 830 S. Lafayette, South Lyon.  Carmella will be laid to rest 
beside her husband in Oakland Hills Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may
