He was born July 10, 1876 in Sherman Township. He married Minnie Braun, October 25, 1904. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ruth. Also, he was a survivor of the disastrous Huron County fire of 1881 that swept that region and he cleared the land on which he farmed. Surviving are his widow, one son, Ben, Ruth; two daughters: Mrs. Mary (Charles) Hessling and Mrs. Annie (William) Volmering, both of Ruth; 26 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Mrs. Diana (Bernard) Wipping, Mrs. Annie (Phillip) Vogel and Mrs. Mary Messing, all of Ruth. The remains are at the family home. Funeral services will be at 9:30 p.m. Saturday in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Rev Francis Welsmiller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Additional Comments: Norma’s Note: although the obituary shows that William and Minnie were married on October 25, 1904, the Huron County Marriage Records show their marriage date as October 22, 1904.
