(Booms) Essenmacher, age 85, went to be with her Lord on Sunday February 14, 2021 at her winter home in Florida. She was born at home November 27, 1935 in Harbor Beach, daughter of the late Roman and Theresa (Lautner) Booms. She married Jerome G. “Jake” Essenmacher, Sr. on September 17, 1955 in Helena. He preceded her death on April 23, 2013. Norma led a life of service by raising her family, being a 4H Leader, and a member of the V.F.W Post #8872, Port Sanilac, axillary; one year as president. She shared her Catholic faith as a Eucharistic Minister, as a member of the St. Mary’s Church Choir, as a member of the Women’s Alter Society at St. Denis and St. Mary’s, and as a member of the Counsel of Catholic Women. Norma was also a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church near her home in Florida. She learned from her mother the art of cooking, gardening, canning, baking and sewing. Her apple pies, strawberry freezer jam, and apple sauce were just a few of the many dishes that were enjoyed greatly by her family and friends. Her beautiful flower beds were enjoyed by all who passed by her home. She was a great seamstress and made clothes for her children and many, many quilts for family members and as donations for charitable auctions. Norma enjoyed traveling and planned many different routes with her husband to their home in Florida and back so they could visit different landmarks. Norma and Jake enjoyed a cruise to Alaska and made a pilgrimage trip to Rome and other historical sites for the “Year of the Jubilee, 2000”. She enjoyed going to dances with her husband and playing cards with her friends. Just outside of her sunroom at her Michigan home she enjoyed feeding the local birds and also birdwatching with her friends of her bird club, the Bird Talk Group. Norma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Surviving are her sons Jerome (Patti) of Rodney, Andrew (Dawn) of Concord and Philip (Kelly) of Gladwin; daughters Catherine (Gary) Comfort of Adrian and Margie Bhatt of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; twenty grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren; sister Marie (Joseph) Kannikal; brothers Alvin Booms, George (Arlene) Booms and Daniel (Marjorie) Booms and sister in law Eleanor (Floyd) Booms, many nieces, nephews and friends. Norma was preceded in death by sons Steven and Timothy; brothers Floyd Booms, Herbert Booms and Clifford Booms and a sister in laws Audrey (Alvin) Booms and Patricia (Herbert) Booms. Funeral Mass will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the Ave Maria Parish- St. Denis Catholic Church in Lexington. Visitation will be at the church from 11- 12 Noon on Wednesday. Fr. Donald J. Eppenbrock will officaiate. Burial will be in New St. Marys Cemetery, Carsonville. Memorials are suggested to Right to Life or Emmaus House www.emmaushousesaginaw.com.
